    1:21 You can use a large piece of tape, put it on the back and then try using the suction cup again.
    4:21 That heatpipe is probably broken now. You should never bend a heatpipe. It has a tiny amount of liquid inside travelling from the hot spots to cooler ones. So if you bend it, the liquid won't be able to travel anymore, resulting in much worse temperatures than before.

    • @ps5hasnogames55
      @ps5hasnogames55 3 года назад +30

      Yeah, yet another lazy rushed repair from Hugh Jeffreys. Destroyed a heatpipe, destroyed his replacement display and tried to blame it on the quality of the glass, doesn't know how to use liquid adhesive (didn't even let it cure), even called batteries "hot swappable". This guy knows nothing about tech. Did you catch that Mac Pro upgrade he did some time ago where he just wedged a graphics card into the computer and completely choked its airflow? LOL! I wouldn't trust this Ariana Grande fanboy with any of my tech.

      @@ps5hasnogames55 i would absolutely love to see you do a repair as clean as he does. Wonder how many parts you'll destroy before you get even one phone to work again after.
      There is no way to remove heat pipes from phones without damaging them, that's why new frames will usually include then. He didn't let the first application of glue fully cure because he shouldn't have needed to use any at all, the replacement display came with shit adhesive. He didn't blame the glass quality for it breaking, he just said that 3rd party parts aren't usually as good as oem, then very plainly stated he shouldn't have put so much weight on it.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 3 года назад

      Restoration was ok, but it makes me cringe when people use "glue" to mount displays. It's not only unprofessional (aka lazy), but makes it a lot more difficult to replace it should again down the line. Even if a custom cut adhesive is not available, one can simply manually apply 3M double sided tape in 10 minutes which comes in various widths from 1mm to 10mm. Just sayin'.

    • @dusanmilicevic4652
      @dusanmilicevic4652 3 года назад +1

      Well, i can understand why he used the glue. The bezel is really narrow on this model. Hence the using of duble sided adhesive would result in minor parts of adhesive sticking out of the side of the bezels.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 3 года назад +1

      @@dusanmilicevic4652 - If you use 1mm width tape placed properly at the edge of the screen (not on the frame), it won't stick out. Plus you can run a wider 10mm strip in the middle of the screen to secure it even more. They sell a variety of widths specially made for phones. I use it all the time and makes subsequent screen repairs so much easier than that gunky glue.

    Honestly? I never heard of this phone before

    Sprint doesn’t have very stringent unlock requirements - usually, they’re unlocked automatically upon being eligible. There’s also an unlock option in the settings, though I don’t think it’ll work unless you’re connected to their network in the US.
    Unfortunately, one of the major requirements they have is that if you’re on a payment plan or lease and haven’t made all your payments, the phone (understandably) cannot be unlocked. At that point, it is still property of Sprint. Be cautious of selling a phone if the owner has stopped making payments - in the US, these will be blacklisted across all major networks as stolen and can’t be activated. You can make sure this isn’t the case using Swappa’s IMEI check.

    Well u can swap the logic board too, to get it 100% done.
    As for the liquid adhesive (mainly T7000, T8000 and B9000), it is actually really good if u apply it fresh asap and let it dry for 18 hours. One of the basic rules about gluing down an lcd or amoled display is to only apply it around the perimeter, and NEVER in the middle.
    The display should always have some travel in the middle, otherwise it would just get crushed if u apply some pressure. Samsung oled panels are an exeption (actually glued in the middle), but that is because they use soft copper shield on the inside, which again gives some travel for the display panel. That shield is nowhere to be seen on the A and AA replacement screens.

  • @CubeBag
    @CubeBag 2 года назад +4

    6:26 It doesn't look like it was supposed to be adhered there in the first place. I think the implication was the repairer would add their own adhesive, so this isn't the manufacturer's fault.
    7:20 Laying the phone display-down likely would have prevented the new display from cracking. While the box of phones probably was too much weight, having the display sit against the flat table would even out the pressure whereas in the video the flexible molded plastic container probably applied uneven pressure to the display, which could have been withstood by the sturdy frame.
    10:44 I may be wrong here but it seems like bands would apply more pressure parallel to the display rather than perpendicular. The adhesion probably isn't as good this way, although I guess it gets the job done. Using a heavy object to apply perpendicular pressure should be fine as long as it's done carefully.

As you might expect, it wasn't. He took the phone to the apple store and tried to get a refund claiming that they lied to him about the water protection. The store employees quickly reminded him that it's water resistant for only accidental splashes and drops in water not be purposefully thrown into a giant body of water by an idiot.

    I use rubber band to hold the display to the frame and keep it for 1 hour

    You should have used rubber bands to apply pressure to the display, worked well for me

    I had one repair show here in Brazil.. man this glue is great and you REALLY don't need that much! Only on the borders and alow it to cure for about 20H... just 3 rubber bands is enough to secure it in place and you really really should put any kind of adhesive behind any kind of amoled! Anyway this was a pretty bad replacement peace really

    Use rubber bands instead of Box of Phones... That will do your work perfectly.

    Sprint merged with T-Mobile in the United States so that could be why your having such a hard time with this phone

    I had the same problem with the display popping issue in my Redmi 7. The interesting thing is that the display was the factory one. A day later, it separated from the frame tearing the connector, basically making it useless :/

    I feel bad for who ever did buy it. If they did get it unlocked before the full T-Mobile take over they're lucky. But if not its basically a sprint brick.
