      Depending on when it was made, either on the bottom of the grip frame, or on the frame under the crane when you open the cylinder.

  • @bryanmise5105

    Thank you. I think you may have hit the nail on the head. Because I can find no reference to the finish type I have. It shoots great DA stacks a bit SA smooth and lite. Apparently typical for colts. smith’s seem to have a better trigger in DA. Smooth all the way.

    I have 2 Officer's Model Match revolvers. One in .38 Special, the other in .22 LR. Both made in the 60s.
    The Officer's Model Match was the basis for the Colt Python. Same sights, trigger, hammer, action. They are just as smooth, accurate and wonderful to shoot. They are available for a fraction of the price of Pythons.
    I used mine for Bullseye shooting at one time and preferred them to my S&W equivalents. (Model 17 and 14) because the double action is much smoother and easier to fire than the S&W. Bullseye shooting has timed and rapid stages which require double action shooting (with one hand) and the Colts were superior for that.
    Great revolvers.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 года назад

      If there is any difference in the smoothness of the actions between my Officer`s Model Match revolvers and my model 14s and 17s, it`s not enough to notice. But that probably varies from one gun to the next. My 22 Colt has a lighter trigger pull than the S&Ws, but the 38 has a heavier trigger.
      I prefer the K Frame S&Ws over the Colts because they are a little lighter, but that`s just personal preference.

      @@1957Shep Well, it's my opinion of course, but I own 2 Colt Officer's Model Match revolvers (.22 and .38 Special), 1 Model 17, and 1 Model 14 along with a bunch of other S&W DA revolvers. I collect S&Ws and generally favor them (I could be biased) but for Bullseye competition I always scored better with the Colt's and the DA trigger pull feels better to me and I shot better with them in timed and rapid fire strings (DA). In slow fire, SA mode, there is nothing to choose from them. One of my Colts (the .38 Special) is the most accurate handgun I have ever fired out to 50 yards. (bench rested with wadcutter ammo) But that is definitely an individual revolver thing.
      TBH my primary .22 Bullseye Match pistol is a High Standard Supermatic Citation, and I usually used my Colt Gold Cup National Match for "any centerfire" and .45 stages, just due to the similarity of the feel of both handguns, AND because of the superb SA trigger pull of both, but when I was shooting in matches where just one stage was being fired...either .22 or "any centerfire", I would use one of the revolvers. I always did better with the Colts.

    Hi. Can the guns accept 38+P ammo? Thanks.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 года назад

      They are old enough that they are not rated for +P. They are easily heavy enough for it, but no way of knowing how much hardening went into the forcing cone. That same frame size was used for other models chambered for 357 magnum.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 года назад

      These guns are the same size (same frame even) as the Colt Python 357 Magnum. So that isn`t an issue. The question would be how much heat treating did they use on the barrel forcing cone? That is the place where high pressure loads might cause excessive wear on a gun this size.
      As a general rule, using +P ammo occasionally in any good quality 38 is not a big deal. It`s only when you use a lot of it in older guns that had soft steel that it might be a problem.

    Colt Officer’s Model .38
    Will a speed loader for a Python fit it?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  2 года назад +1

      Don`t know for sure. But since the frame and cylinder are the same (or near identical anyway) it probably would. But the grips on the Officer`s Model Match are larger than the Python grips, they might interfere with the use of a speed loader.
      I don`t own any speed loaders.

    Hi there. Been watching your videos for a while. Good stuff. I’ve been searching on the internet. And bought a few Colt books and collectors guilds. But no luck
    I’m asking for some help, some information
    I hope you can help me.
    I have/ just recently got myself a Colt Officers model; made in 1949 according to the Colt serial numbers look up. It’s has a 6in 1935 style heavy barrel. But not the 4th type bull barrel. Just the slightly thicker heavy barrel. It’s has a fluted cylinder of course but this one, the flutes cuts are a Mat finish but the rest of the cylinder is nice blue finish. The mat finish also is on the top of the frame, down the back strap, between the grips, up the front strap and bottom of trigger Guard. Like I ribbon of mat finish.along the outside perimeter. Rest of the gun regular blued. Like a two tone gun
    Very interesting. Do you know anything about this type of Colt.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  3 года назад +1

      I`m no Colt expert, or really an expert on any brand of guns for that matter, but my guess is that your gun is probably not factory original. It may be a gun that someone has rebuilt. I have one that is somewhat similar. Marked as an Official Police 32-20, But on close inspection it turned out to be an older Army Special that had been fitted with a new (or newer) Official Police barrel. Serial number dates to 1914, long before the Army Special was renamed the Official Police in 1927. And there are differences in the finish between the barrel and frame. Colt used different bluing methods over the years.
      It`s also possible that your gun was a parts clean up. If Colt found a bunch of old outdated parts that could still be used, they may have used them in later guns. They have been known to do this.
      In the late 70s Colt made some 22 pistols out of leftover Woodsman and Huntsman parts after both models had been discontinued and were kind of a hybrid of the 2 models.

    DO NOT SHOOT 38 SPL IN A FIRST MODEL..it is not chambered for that caliber.
    After 08 till 41 5 in B were available..so 4, 4.5, 5, 6 and 7.5 B. 4 in B are rare, 5's are tough to find, most are beat ex duty revolvers.
    32 sw cal was Special order until they made a run of a few hundred 6 B in 1940.
    Colt revolvers till 1926 had the 1905 patent dates on the top of the B. From 1926 to 41 it was the 1926 patent date. Post ww2 they discontinued the patent date with just colts patent firearms on the top. From 1904 to 1912 they had walnut grips without medallion insert after 1912 they had checkered walnut grips with a deep dish medallion after 1923 or so a silver nickle medallion, postwar they used Colt wood plastic grips till 1950 or so..that is the hallmark of the off mdl specials;.they then went to the large Python like walnut grip with a gold colored medallion insert.
