When building and laying out your new home and your pastures and barns and just everything keep in mind that older age creeps up on you faster than you realize. Talk to your parents and grandparents if you still have them or several older couples and ask them what they would have done differently etc. Even if they don't live the same lifestyle. Crystal at Blue Cactus is amazing! Totally agree with this idea. Weed en and Reap purchased Zorro from her and his babies are adorable and his mom Little Bit comes from Amazing milking lines!
Good Morning Lumnah's. Thanks for the informative video, i had guessed it was the bucks because i realize that you sometimes have to refresh the lines. I will miss the boys but realize they have moved on to another herd to continue their lines. Stew looked amazing so i have decided that we will be having stew either today or tomorrow and might try your version. Usually i coat the meat in a light dusting of flour and braise them, then add onion to the meat to sauté them, this adds another layer of flavor to the stew. I add a bit of water to the bottom of the pan and scrape all that lovely flavor from the bottom of the pan then add the beef or chicken stock and cook for 3- hours, then the veggies. Usually don't have to thicken the stock because the flour does that for me. This is the way my mom cooked it so have always done it this way. God Bless
We installed a 5000 lumin 4 ft light in our chicken coop on a time, It ran 6 hours from around 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and it did increase our egg production during winter. We also made up little nesting huts around our free range area and that helped us find the eggs that the chickens did not lay in the coop!
Have you thought to have goats clear your new acreage? They have herds that do that That you can rent out . The lady does like 500 goats at a time and lives with them she does everything including the fencing !
Thanks for updating us on your plans for the animals and the off grid property Al and Gina! Olivia is the perfect age to be with all these new changes going on. It is so great to see you as a family face this new adventure together!
Here's something you might like to look up Tamworth pigs they are great for rooting and clearing your type of land, also Highland cattle good hardy breed they don't need to be kept inside over winter plus another breed is the Belted Galloway they eat poor quality grass, they forage well turning the land into good pastures.
you might want to look into Hügelkultur for the new property. It uses wood debris compostable material to create fertile soil that retains heat and water. Since you are clearing wood you can use some of the tree debris and the mounds and let it do its working so that when you want to grow on the new land you already have fertile soil ready to go. The best part is if you pile the mounds really high it'll go for years with wood decomposing and keep int soil fertile. Its a technique used in Germany which also has very cold winters
Wow!!! You will be very busy this year! Don't wear yourself out...everythong happens in it's own time... Thank you for sharing your journey and God bless you and your family.
I'm almost as excited as you are to see what the future holds for your family and homestead. Gina, your stew looks so good I could almost smell it. Stay Happy and Healthy!!
Good Morning everyone, Chad here from up in Ontario. Al, I have a video coming up about all my planned projects for 2021 and it’s a lot to take on but some things can be done simultaneously. Sounds like you guys will have a busy year too. I’ll be watching.
Yay! I’m so glad it wasn’t one of the girls that y’all sold. Al, Gina and Olivia, you guys have the best looking goats. May your herd and farm continue to grow.
That’s the first time I’ve watched both of you together while explaining things. Really enjoyed that. Felt like I was with friends. I envy your future plans. Wish I was young again. Be sure to keep Olivia engaged with you. Our children should always come first before our wants. God has truly blessed your family.
Check Blue Cactus Dairy Goats she has all 20 of her goats pregnant and will be born last Fenruary beginning March. The owners name is Crystal she really loves goat and pampers them
@@imdollyc Yep, I'd love for it to happen! But Al is probably not in a hurry to get replacements right now. Hope looks positively pregnant. Tilly's line usually produces singleton or twins and have always been girls!! So may be Al should look into Blue Cactus Dairy Goats.
I am SO happy you are getting Katahdin sheep. Ive had them for years, great mothers, good flavor meat, resistant to worms, low maintenance. Also self shed their hair in the spring so NO shearing. 🐑
Once you have the new property house and barns built, will you keep both properties or sell the one where you are now and focus with the 500 acre property.
Try a teaspoon or two of tapioca instead of a rue to thicken. Works great. You can also put it all together after browning meat and warming broth, then put in oven for a few 3-4 hours on 325. No need to watch the covered pot.
Wow 🤩! Things are popping at the homestead and the new property. I am beginning to see the plan you have for both properties. Good call on the bucks. That pared down on the chores on Lumnah Acres. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I am happy to see Little Man back with his sisters!!! Can hardly wait until tomorrow morning for the next episode of The Chronicles of Al, Gina, and Olivia.
I start my seeds in my basement at the end of Feb for my hot peppers. Depending on what Im planting I will be seed starting over the course of march and april.
Was born and grew up a farmers lad . One of my regular early tasks was to go and collect the eggs from between the hay and straw bales . Chickens could get into the gaps between bales and make a little nest, amazing how many eggs I used to collect. So just worth checking where your bales are stacked.
Hey Al. During the winter we usually have free choice feeders out for our chickens. Our winters in the south are nothing like yours but it has helped here with keeping production up
Merino need shearing, they don't want to shear. I don't see many sheep around here in East Tennessee and certainly not merinos, not like back home when I lived near Goulburn, the home of merino sheep
Good morning from Utah with cup of coffee held tightly in my hand, mmmm I love my coffee. I think it is great that you read the comments and take suggestions that some make, goes to show that you do really care about everything. When I saw you were selling 2 of your goats I was thinking which 2 ? My guess was Blossom because at the same age as Buttercup she has not successfully bred so far, and Little Man because he is really just a passenger from a commercial point of view. But I was 100% wrong of course!

For info on farming sheep, I'd contact Sandi Brock, a fellow RUclipsr. She's from Ontario, CN, and raises sheep for meat. One episode that informative about beginning to raise sheep is called "How We Started Our Sheep Farm FROM SCRATCH!! (& Tips For Beginners):Vlog 161". As you'll see in the video, she's a wonderful person.
If you put in a wood boiler at the new property for heating the new house and shop you will also be able to use it to create hot spots near the animals for a spot to set the water dishes to keep them from freezing. Would want the animals winter pens near the house/shop to reduce how much insulated pex is needed but that is what planing is for.
Glad to hear about your plans now. It is much clearer and you have everything to succeed it. So hang on to your plans and dreams they are on their way as you create them!
A friend of mine Charles, has a You Tube site, Pickles BBQ, and just posted a fresh green bean/potato clow cook recipe. Wood go great with the beef stew :)
When you do your new green houses at the 500-acre property . You should do geothermal green houses, that way they can heat themselves and you can grow year-round in them. You can also apply for grants for the greenhouses to grow food, I think you have to pay for them up front and then they reimburse you for them. I'm checking into that at the present time myself.
I for one enjoyed watching this video. Its great to hear what your plans are. Would you do a information video once a month?? example, In the next few weeks we are planning on doing this or that?? I always view every video you post. Thank you for sharing
I guess I am like the others. Glad it was the bucks you sold. Love the new Lodge Dutch oven Gina. That stew looked delicious. A slice of corn bread sure would be good with it. Southern style...not sweet. Thanks for the remarks about the plans for the coming spring. It will be an exciting year for y'all. Have a Blessed day.
Good morning Lumnah family, I needed a second cup of coffee ☕️ ☕️... WOW the title was a surprise and then your explanation was exciting, have a blessed day
I got a new pot for Christmas too mine is green.I saw you using your old pot & thought how nice it would be to have one.Thank you for all of your videos. I love your property & can’t wait to see you all camping there I don’t know do you still have that zip up tent maybe it would be a start, I’ve seen ones you could put a wood stove into walk with, my uncle his cows would hide babies in woods as a kid I loved it even though he didn’t like it as child I didn’t know why he got so tired, an old age thing I didn’t understand then but I do at 71...
hi u guys i watch a lot of homesteaders and you guys have the best most organised set up, so im sure whatever you do on the new property will be equally as good. i love your current homestead, Al is very handy and creative and fanatical about everything he does. good luck to all of you.
D Eugene B - But she seems to have always been plump around the belly. I asked about that sometime back but got no answer, so I guessed it was normal for her to be that way.
@@annwithaplan9766 I am no expert but have been watching Hope since they got her at the airport from her Arizona flight in. She definitely looks wider to me.. I'm going to guess two kids.
@@deugeneb1698 - Maybe she does, I haven't been paying that much attention lately. I saw her come home, too. I had asked about her plumpness earlier in the year, as she had that pregnancy "look" then. : )
Gina: a tip for making your chopper last longer, OK? Cutting the vegies a little thinner and placing the heel of your hand, just below your thumb, on the top, just over where the hinges are, pushing down firmly while using your other hand to "pound" the other end of the top, will take a lot of stress off the hinges. Speaking from experience, they will break off eventually. Good luck. Blessings.

Yummy. 🤔 I was wondering if you are going to change up the egg layers? 💞 You folks have a blessed day. Stay warm and God bless you all. 🙏☝️👍
RUclips GOAT BREEDING LINES.How cool is that ? Also , please look into some easy ways to heat your next greenhouse. You could expand the growing season.
There's something called sprouting of sprouts that you can eat, great for wintertime. Might check into sprouting for eatting and extra nutrition in winter takes about a week or a little less, 5 days to grow from seed to eat. Grow in the house.
Stew looks yummy but here in south Louisiana we also add a couple celery stalks and 2 bay leafs and serve with a scoop of rice. I also have a huge bay leaf shrub and dry the leaves when I trim the shrub 3 times a year. Love watching your kindness to your girls and animals.
the title caught me! and at first i could not understand why the bucks. Your explanation made perfect sense. I watched the clock on the stove and wondered, what is your normal routine? Perhaps you could walk us through a normal day timeline. i know time is different on a farm or homestead, mostly directed by the animal care but it would (for me) help understand your day. So far, the plans for the enchanted forest sound great. i would still like to see a hand drawn (so as not to reveal anything) map of the property so we can understand the road and trails. (Or is that just being too nosey. lol) I really appreciated the explanation of winter chores and planning you are doing, it really helps understand homestead life.
Katahdins are great! Look around and get colored ones if you decide to keep that breed. I’ve had them for ten years and they have been quite satisfactory. They also eat brush and weeds before grasses. They’ll head everything up to about four feet high. If you want to use them to clear land fast then get a whole bunch of them as adults.
Beautiful enameled pan. Totally appropriate with this dish. If you need to simmer meat or a dish that is not bathed in broth and want to prevent it from drying out, and you like these pans, then have a look at a model "Doufeu" (means soft fire) from French manufacturer "Le Creuset". This Doufeu has a lid with a deep recess that you fill with cold water or ice and this causes steam in the pan to condensate and drip back. Ideal for slow cooking.
It was nice to hear Gina more... Great show watching some old ones yesterday Saw the one chicken or Duck got Gina You had the red pick up it was good and funny
Great show today, Al & Gina! Very instructive and interesting, with you explaining the new directions Lumnah "Farms" is taking. Got to see a different view of your farm life today-really enjoyed it! Keep up the great work!
I really enjoyed the barn chat with you and Gina! I look forward to seeing how you transform the wild 500 into a working farm! Gina, I love that you share you meal prep with us! I can always gleen some ideas from my favorite youtube fams. ❤️
Sad to see the boys go but my husband and I were expecting some kind of downsizing with the new property taking so much of your time. I didn't know Lodge made enameled cast iron. That looks real nice! That stew looked awesome! I made a venison stew that we really enjoyed. Blessings to all.
Nice to see you making plans. It's exciting to build for the future. Analyzing your needs now will surely maximize your time for the new property. So proud of your family.
Why do the female goats get grain but the males dont? Is there a certain reason? Hope is my favorite goat too. Her & ivy. I like the all black or black & white ones. But its really their personality. So will you move up to the new off grid property(build a house, farm, etc.)? Or will you still live where you are living now & build just a farm up at the new property(Lumnah 2)?
I read somewhere that you shouldn’t use a milking machine when milking because it reduces the amount you actually get. Hand milking more simulates suckling and thus will provide more when milking.
Great hearing some of the plans for Spring. Gina, have you thought about planting fresh herbs? They make great additions to most everything, and most can be dehydrated for year round use, too! I guess you will be growing more potatoes this year, too. Nothing like home grown spuds!
Something I hope you take into consideration while building up your off grid property. You guys are young and healthy right now. When building and laying out your new home and your pastures and barns and just everything keep in mind that older age creeps up on you faster than you realize. Talk to your parents and grandparents if you still have them or several older couples and ask them what they would have done differently etc. Even if they don't live the same lifestyle.
Question of the day, How many times did Al take off and put on his right glove?
Drove me crazy....had to just listen and not watch!!
8 times if i count right :D
While it was noted, we probably should not point out OCD habits. I have plenty but I get plenty of work done.

hi u guys i watch a lot of homesteaders and you guys have the best most organised set up, so im sure whatever you do on the new property will be equally as good. i love your current homestead, Al is very handy and creative and fanatical about everything he does. good luck to all of you.
Hope looks (to me) like she may have two or three kids on board...

I like the multi color use
Good luck. Blessings.
Good morning Al and family from ole Kentucky.
Morning ole Kentucky
I know you like to keep busy and you’ve got the perfect plan to fulfill that need. We’re all looking forward to any/all new projects. We wish you all the best and we’re behind you all the way. Happy New Year! 😎👍👀🪵🚜🔔🦌✅
Oh I am sooo glad you didn't get rid of Li'le Man!!!!!!!!
🤗 Good morning.
Excited new things coming up for you. Great! You folks are going to be very busy but also having a lot of fun with the new adventures. 👏👏👏
Stew is a great comfort food in the winter. Yummy. 🤔 I was wondering if you are going to change up the egg layers? 💞 You folks have a blessed day. Stay warm and God bless you all. 🙏☝️👍
Good afternoon from the Netherland's
Soo excited to see Hope babies! She was such a precious baby... I love Weed em and Reap here in AZ. She is a sweetie!

Good morning everyone. 😊
Thank you'all....
Good morning! I really don’t know anything about sheep. This year we plan to get some goats or pigs.
Thank you the updates
the title caught me! and at first i could not understand why the bucks.
(Or is that just being too nosey. lol)
I really appreciated the explanation of winter chores and planning you are doing, it really helps understand homestead life.
There's a whole lot of early risers on this channel. Six minutes and a thousand views...wow.
Its 11am in Scotland so not too early 😎

Goooooood morning Kentucky
It was nice to hear Gina more... Great show watching some old ones yesterday Saw the one chicken or Duck got Gina You had the red pick up it was good and funny
How are the bee's doing?
Great show today, Al & Gina! Very instructive and interesting, with you explaining the new directions Lumnah "Farms" is taking. Got to see a different view of your farm life today-really enjoyed it! Keep up the great work!
Sounds like a plan for success!
I really enjoyed the barn chat with you and Gina! I look forward to seeing how you transform the wild 500 into a working farm! Gina, I love that you share you meal prep with us! I can always gleen some ideas from my favorite youtube fams. ❤️

@@annettegregg8654 Morning Annette.
Sad to see the boys go but my husband and I were expecting some kind of downsizing with the new property taking so much of your time. I didn't know Lodge made enameled cast iron. That looks real nice! That stew looked awesome! I made a venison stew that we really enjoyed. Blessings to all.
Your Boston is showing with “wicked”, lol.
Too much alfalfa can cause urinary infections in male goats
@@robynwilson842 ahhh, ok, I see. Thank you for explaining. Good to know. Thanks again!
I'm pretty sure the only ones getting grain are the milking does and the pregnant ones (and they only get a treats worth).
I read somewhere that you shouldn’t use a milking machine when milking because it reduces the amount you actually get. Hand milking more simulates suckling and thus will provide more when milking.
Good morning 😊
Morning Annette!

Great hearing some of the plans for Spring. Gina, have you thought about planting fresh herbs? They make great additions to most everything, and most can be dehydrated for year round use, too! I guess you will be growing more potatoes this year, too. Nothing like home grown spuds!
Al have u thought about milking the sheep the milk is good
Makes some good cheese.
I have Katahdin & Dorper. Both are great meat sheep. Off-Grid with Doug & Stacy have Katahdin also. You'll be very happy.
