    Jay, a little tip for when that pilot gunks up in the future: if you go to a smoke shop or drug store with pipe smoking supplies they will sell actual chenille pipe cleaners. Don’t get a craft store one, those are polyester and don’t work as well. The steel wire is there for that specific reason. You also can take a set of wire cutters and cut off the dirty portion and keep using the same cleaner for a long time.

    Looking good Jay. You should consider flashing those upper windows when you put up the roof as they look like they'll be close to even with the roof at the bottom. This will potentially be a source of water penetration into the wall below the windows. If you could raise those windows to give you a 6" min space from the roof, that would be better.

    • @rockandrollude
      @rockandrollude 57 минут назад

      Well he did mention in a past video, that one of those top windows was cracked due to settling from the structure and from having been placed in a too tight frame out with no room for shims, so this is a perfect excuse to get a new set of windows and add flashing clearance to the expansion.

    You’re doing a great job with your addition Jay! When you were splitting all that kindling it reminded me of the old timer men I grew up around . They would spend what seemed to be days out at their spitting block getting their kindling ready for the following winter. They have like a cord of wood all made into kindling. Crazy but a very smart thing to do. I wish I would’ve paid more attention to the old guys. They were a wealth of knowledge.

    The Buddy heaters work great once you get them going. I had that issue where the pilot would light on a big tank but go out when you put it on. My issue was that there was condensation in the line that froze. If you can bring the line in and thaw it for a little while, it will fix that issue. I know that's not ideal, because you are trying to use it for heat, but since you have the stove, thaw the line, then run the heater even though you have the stove going to get the line to clear out the water.

    A valid bit of advice for yourself jay, never let the tape measure slam closed like that, the hook has movement for allowances of measuring an internal measurement and an external measurement self adjusting, repetitively slamming this closed onto the hook wears is it out twice as quick.. it’s okay if you have the one tape measure and that’s it but if you start using two different ones they will start to measure differently when your in need of tight tolerances 😀

    I live in the UK, and I really dislike flat roofs. I used to have one on my house, and it cost me a small fortune to keep up with the repairs. Eventually, I switched to a pitched roof.
    I have a question: How do you plan to run a seal from your new roof to the old cabin? The seal needs to extend up the wall by about 4 inches, if not a little more. However, I notice that your upper windows are only just above the new roof. You might need to remove the windows altogether or opt for smaller ones. It's not a difficult task to accomplish.
    By the way, I love seeing your little dog running around and having fun in the snow!
    Keep up the good work!

    • @nbco55
      @nbco55 45 минут назад

      That's the only way I see it working is by going with shorter windows. I'm a builder here south of the 49th. But I think in the cabin those really are only a clerestory style window because they're so high on the wall. I think I would probably opt for just a fixed frame window.

    Hi Jay I was wondering if maybe you should have put up a vapour barrier before you attached the plywood to the frame of the extension and if you remove a bit of the plywood from above the windows on the inside of the cabin you might be able to remove the two windows ok this is only a suggestion for you and keep up the great work both on the cabin and your channel by the way I live in Wales in the UK

    I'm not really worried about the slope, but what I am worried about is the distance between the roof and the windows above it. That should be bigger to prevent water from getting in when it's pouring or with wind blowing.
