Enjoyed watching you cut the trail. It's so beautiful, with all the snow... Watching you reminds me of my parents, after they retired... They purchased land and cleared it themselves ( in their 60's). It was around 15 acres. But the smell of pine and Earth....Wonderful!!!! The Homestead looks so pretty too!! All your hard work does show. Thanks for taking us along on your journey and God bless you and your family.
My wife and I bought 211 acres when we were in our late fifties. It was rough country and everything had been neglected for many years. It took ten years and we just about killed ourselves doing it but we got it back in shape and then sold it when when we were in our late sixties. You just have to be persistent. Your folks are awesome 👍
Good morning. Can you provide a map without giving your location away. Show the property and where the road is and how the trails your working on layout. Your my morning wakeup. Much better than the news. Thanks for sharing. Becky from KC
Yes please Al. Much as I love your trail blazing trips, I have no idea where you are in relation to anything else. Even a rough, hand-drawn map would be better than nothing. No snow yet for us in this part of the UK.
Good Morning! Al, any chance when the loggers start you can interview one of the guys who makes decisions about what logs to cut, how the process goes, etc. I think that would be an interesting video, especially if they cover the whole process, the equipment they use, stuff like that.
My favorite thing has been your beautiful snowfall. The homestead look so clean and fresh with the blanket of snow. However, better yet is the picturesque scenery of the tall pine trees on the off grid property, with their boughs laden with snow. It would make a fantastic Christmas card in itself. Take Care. May God Bless and keep you safe.
Maybe you could get 2 or 3 chains for the saw in case you hit a rock or something on the first cut? At least you may get some work done and it won't be a wasted trip. Like I suggested many videos ago, a pole saw would be great to have with you too.
good morning from s.w lower mich. we have only had about 7-8 inches of snow and low temp of mid teens. 40 today / tomorrow, then 30's this weekend. enjoying the trail making. walking the trails will be fun for you in summer. the smell of fresh dirt and pine gives hope for spring and gardening.
Good Morning from Scotland 🏴! I love getting your new vid notification - means I can sit down, have my cup of tea and enjoy your latest adventure. I’d love to see drone footage of all the new trails and landings that have happened - must look so different from above! Can’t wait for the next instalment and thanks for the meal ideas - we are now having pasta bolognaise for dinner 🍝 tonight. Take care xx
I loved today's adventure today, Al. I'm glad you took us way beyond the outhouse so we could see what was there. I love the exploring by foot, so magical, and am excited to see what your plans are for the storage container. Anxiously awaiting to see if Hope and Little P are pregnant. I love the cooking segments with Gina and Olivia. Please pet Hope for me
9:36 when log is is suspended, no need to do an undercut, just top cut all the way thru log. You are binding chain known as pinching. this will cause chain tensioner to tighten chain onto bar, necessitating wasted time re adjusting. hope this helps. 55+ years experience
Al you have to sharpen that saw on the go,back of mule endgate and use that relatively new sharpener ,it has a flat file and round file together so you do rackers and chiesels at same time It is a hand file, you will like it!
The trail looks good! And it is great seeing the progress on the off grid property with clearing and all! Thank you for taking us on your journey. God bless! 💜🙂
I really like your videos. When you reach a road block, like the end of the trail it just opens an other opportunity to explore or do something else on your new property. Fantastic place you have there. Thank you for taking us along. Good morning and God bless you. From South East Michigan.
I just love to see the videos where you are exploring to see exactly what you have and hear of the plans of what you will do with all that property. Seeing the property now and how it changes when the excess growth is gone and the trees logged.
Hey Al one thing I've noticed is how you refuel your equipment. A couple of years ago I bought 2 5 gallon racing fuel bottles and a stick pump with a 3ft hose so i can leave the bottle on the ground to refuel mine has a rocker switch, so much more convenient for and no spills

For me its the exploring and getting to know the property. I know i would be having the same problem you are. Chomping at the bit. Anxious to see what is out there to be found and see all that will need to be done. Love these videos like everyone I have seen. Thanks again for taking us along for the journey. 😁😁😁
Al, Gina, and Olivia, this must by so exciting for you guys. Thanks so much for showing this to us! It'll be really interesting after it is logged to see how things have changed at the off grid property!🙂
I so enjoyed watching the peaceful trail you made yesterday. You certainly do not need a ‘work out’ after all that clearing of branches. In contrast here in the UK there was a noise of two loud explosions and my home shook. It took some time to discover this noise had affected several counties when fighter planes had sped off to intercept an unidentified plane out of Germany, and the British planes had broken the sound barrier. Gina could be using the battery chainsaw and cutting those smaller logs into lengths for the firepit and Olivia could be stacking them against a tree for retrieval later.
Very exciting and adventurous, I love how interested Gina is in looking at everything same as Al. I can’t wait to see where you intend to start the homestead build a home and maybe later a cabin in the woods, for hunting? So much land! God bless all of you!!
Looks like things are moving along well for you guys with the new property. How well is the Mule with tracks serving you - the tracks seem to be a terrific option!
You ask what is best part of video😊 Man as your driving seeing the trees filled with snow is eye candy. Its so darn beautiful 😍 that one Christmas looking tree that hit the windshield is AMAZING. Ha ha ha . Its all good 👍 .
Good morning family. Just wanted to say in the patch we can your cleaned spot at the new property a stagging area. U 3 are doing amazing clearing up there. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Good morning Al, just a thought, I know you want to have your property marked so come spring time or even now run a straight line from 2 points, once you have them take your chainsaw & cut down all trees the width of the the tank, this when completed will have a trail to ride the outside of your property
My husbands family were all loggers in Oregon and I had always wondered how they logged off the areas and I caught this by accident today and never enjoyed somethin so much...everything was like clock work with the men and the drivers as they knew their job well!!. Thank you do much Al for this post. I agree with talking with the workers.
Make sure you always cut the trail much wider than you want because everything will want to grow into the trail. Learned this the hard way cut a trail in winter like you then by mid- end of summer I was like what happen to the trail, where'd it go so I had to go in again and cut it back, so I just went extra extra wide so i dont have to worry about cutting anything back for several years
Try carrying a second sharp chain to replacement when cutting hard wood and that you have the bar getting oil to or wear into you blade was will stop your chain saw when it gets to hot in cutting the trees mostly hard wood and you know which is hard to cut and check to to see if it is not getting blocking air take of engine by saw dust or water from the snow common thing to stop the chain saws from working and do not forget to clean it after working it hard...
CHICKENS need 14 hours of Daylight to lay EGGS.....so you got to put lights in the hen house. One switch is ALL and the other is a few. This is to help them find a roost at night for 30 minutes or so. A time switch can be helpful here so you do not need to come back to the hen house after turning off the light.
Gina, I'd like to say thanks. I struggle with lifelong chronic depression and when it's bad I don't cook for myself like I should. Over and over watching you cook and seeing the fun way you improvise gets me excited to do something. Sometimes it holds for long enough so that I can. Thanks for that. p.s. what's that kitchen utensil called that you break up the sausage with?
It was 19* here in N. Texas[1/12/21], where on Sunday[1/10/21] we got 4 1/2" of snow. It snowed all day and part of the night. and yes a lot of it is still here, but our ground temp was warm, so roads have been ok. Very unusual for our area, 2 snows this year!
I am also curious but we have to wait. The weather is too cold to inspect the hives. Maybe Al can catch them making a cleansing flight in the sunshine on one of the warmer days so we can see them again.
If you have the spares carry an extra chain with you. If you have an old bar then mount it in a vise and use it to hold chain while you sharpen the spare chain without the saw. The cutting you are doing is very hard on chains. So you need spares.
Wow Gina you re doing a great job on those trails, I fully expect you to bring your broom to sweep up those small bits. One thing you're as fit as a fiddle. Great job what a family. Cheers from NB Canada
For dull blades, have a couple blades with you. That way you can just change the blade and keep cutting. When you get back home, you can sharpen all the blades at once and be ready for the next day. Love the videos.
👋 Good morning. More adventures in the woods. 👍👍 It will be interesting when the baby goats come. 👏👏 Winter always seems so very long even just after a few weeks. We need warmth and sunshine. 💞💞 Be well and God bless you folks. 🙏☝️
Looks like my place did yesterday. SNOW everywhere. We don't get to see it much down here in Deep East Texas. Kinda glad we don't in a way. You seem to be getting a lot done on the new property. AWESOME !!
Good Morning, Lumnahs! We got now on Sunday! Not like y’all get, but it was snow. I’ve enjoyed exploring your new property with y’all. I Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Love to see new property... wish you would get trail camera so you can see some of the animals you have on the property. Get one for every trail. Might think about carrying a extra chain with you swap them out, sharpen at home. Chain saws only as good as how sharp it’s chain is.
The only trees we have around here are Ponderosa Pine. We have trees on our property that are nearly as old as the country. They are VERY slow growing as this is a semi arid climate.
@@LumnahAcres, I don’t know how you have time to respond... it’s greatly appreciated. The new property is beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing what you create... as always, have a blessed day
Morning Al, Gina, and Olivia are you having a warmer winter than normal? On your big map of the property make sure that you stay up to date on everything. Your trails, the spots where they cleared out for turning around. I watch Outdoors with the Morgan's and Mike has a pretty nice logsplitter. Any chance of you and Gina doing a livestream say on a Saturday morning sometime ?
We also share your excitement in the new property. Can't wait to see that log cutting begin. Hopefully you will carve out some new pastures and hay fields. You have way too many great choices for house sites. It will be interesting to watch you make the hard choice of the right location to live. You going to do it all off grid with your own power source?
Your off grid property is going to be so much fun watching you develop it as you want. Are you no longer milking Willow? I missed that! All you snow explorations make me cold but it’s fun watching you guys while we’re sitting in our warm house! Great video. Thank you & stay safe!
Here in the uk we don't get much land available to buy and nowhere near as huge. Enjoying watching your journey from raw land to you building and living on that beautiful property, so glad I followed hope from Arizona and am here to stay.
Good day guys thanks for taking us along on your off grid property exploration looks like the logging company is getting all set up . Gina dinner looks yummy as always . 👍
Although the property is beautiful in winter I'm looking to forward what promises to be a stunning spring! I have SO many questions while watching: when you move to that property would you sell the homestead or rent it out in case Olivia wants to live in it when she's older, do you want to raise meat for sale to others such as pigs, beef, chickens, turkey, you mentioned multiple high towers so would you sell veggies too, is there a farmers market close by or would you sell shares co-op style, will you still be closest to the town and school district you're used to, are you and Gina going to do the building on all the necessary structures (house, barn, shop, garage, wood shed, outdoor kitchen)by yourselves or hire help? There are more but I don't want to scare you! You have really provoked so much thought in this old girl that it's quite a lot of fun!! Thank you, thank you, for being who you are! 💖😁
A very thoughtful and well written comment. Al is lucky to have you watching along with the rest of us. Of course he must mean a family farm, not a bug farm. Although, wait till you see the black fly season up there.
ever thought about a trailer for the mule, then every reasonable tree you cut down clearing trails could be placed in there for firewood logs split later at the homestead?
I really enjoy your new property excursions. Is there anyway to show where your trail starts and where your trail is trying to get to? Some point of reference of where your trying to get to or find? Just a thought or where you are from the pond? Even hand draw and outline if yoyr property and here's the pond. Here's what weve walked on. Here's where we are working to find today. Just an idea.
Enjoyed watching you cut the trail. It's so beautiful, with all the snow...

The forest is so pretty. That very tall one at the end of your trail is very nice.
Looks so cold up there, glad you have a heater. 😀🔥
Get a stihl 2 in 1 sharpening file. Teeth and raker in one motion, and it files the raker to the perfect height... they are sweet.
Good advice!
when you file your chain, do you file the rackers down to the safety. only done once.
Good morning Lumnah family ☕️ Happy Tuesday, have a blessed day
Goooood morning
@@LumnahAcres, I don’t know how you have time to respond... it’s greatly appreciated. The new property is beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing what you create... as always, have a blessed day
did you know that the older trees have pumis on them from mt. saint helina .
I can't wait for the skid trails to start, those are so much fun to explore on.
A livestream would be fun!
Yes we stopped milking willow about a month ago now.
look at the time stamp19.57 what do u see on the left of the track ? a tree but what else
Here in the uk we don't get much land available to buy and nowhere near as huge. Enjoying watching your journey from raw land to you building and living on that beautiful property, so glad I followed hope from Arizona and am here to stay.
Greetings from central Ga. Al if you only have one saw I have found it helpful to always to cary an extra chain.
Good day guys thanks for taking us along on your off grid property exploration looks like the logging company is getting all set up . Gina dinner looks yummy as always . 👍
More progress. Look forward to seeing the logging start. Where on the property are you looking to build?
I have a hard time with patience also Al. It will work itself out. We hope. 👍
Lots of work clearing trails so much fun and blessings on your land.
Good morning everyone from Detroit Michigan al is having lots fun🤙good job
I enjoy watching it come together cant wait to see what is next be safe and good luck
Good morning! Rather see you building stuff. Love the property. Big hugs from Perth Ontario.
We are planning on have a bug farm. It will take some time to get everything up and running but in the end it’s going to be a nice working farm
Often when chain saws are about to run out of gas they will reve up some because they are running a little lean on the fuel mix.
Super good progress, it will be nice when you can drive around the property.
As a former logger, the chain on huskys and stihls always slip off when doing a undercut
