Looking like the ENGWE ENGINE PRO, the new ENGINE X model has a very smart trick. You are aware that bikes sold in the EU "should" have 250W power and to only work in assisted mode (no throttle). Well we also know that 250W is slow, weak and we also like accelerators when we are on "private roads". So ENGWE solved this, they made the X mode that comes with just "250W" power and a non-working throttle. With a bit of "magic" you can change the controller settings and the bike will ramp up to ~1000W top power, while the accelerator would be enabled! So you can now have a bike for both words, EU compliant and of course FUN compliant. The goodies don't end here, if you dial in the code "EngineXeu" when ordering this from the official ENGWE site, you are also going to get a nice 100 euro discount!

Thanks for a really great review. The only question I needed answering after watching this review was its ability to climb hills. I live in Cantabria and there's a lot of hills between my house and the nearest shops but thankfully that concern was answered in the comments below.
I just watched all the videos related to the Engine X and I would like to thank you and congratulate you as I have seen probably all the videos related to the engine X and I can say that yours answered all my questions, truly the best!
Thank you very much!
@@TechTronic9000 agree
Thank you!
Very nice.. I like the 45 kph speed mostly here in my area of the USA. More than 30 mph is kind of fun but not a needed factor.
Felicitari pt video, foarte exhaustiv in explicatii si prezentare!
got my engine x 2 weeks ago, very good bike, very happy with it, good video TechTronic9000
Great to hear!
How's the hill climb on this machine? Most important feature not mentioned in the review
This is. Really awesome review thanks mate.
I have the same bike. I also love the sound of the engine and the tyres on the road. I love it. I never thought I would like the sound so much, an electric sound, but it's great!
Couldn't agree more, I also love that sound.
Hello there can you clarify me regarding ep2 pro eu version 250w , how is that bikes performance and after unlocking that bike also performs welll like engwe x ??? Please reply
Thanks! Very valuable presentation, test. It will add another argument to buy this model 😃
Glad it was helpful!
Do you think the engine power difference between engine-X and engine Pro is too big? Another question is about the driving modes (eco/normal/sports) in engine pro are much superior to this version engine X?
Thanks for this video I really appreciate it, I am a 74 year old pensioner and thinking of buying one. Here in the Uk the restrictions apply and I was not sure which of these bikes to buy. This one obviously conforms to the present laws here unmodified but your comments about the braking performance is a strong reason to buy the pro model. My current mountain bike is ok but I am starting to struggle a bit on hills hence my reason to buy one. I will be mostly riding along old railway tracks, converted to trails and a disused canal, but there are a few roads I need to negotiate between them. Thanks again this is a good review. Chris.
The bike is very good for UK, the brakes are also ok if you don't go very fast, probably you are going to use it locked to the 25km/h limit. Also you can upgraded the brakes very easy and cheap with a pair of semi-hydraulic xtech.
This is a really awesome review
@@TechTronic9000 please guide us how to unlock speed
Thanks for your review of a great folding bike! I plan to buy the 1000W 48V 17.5AH Engwe Engine Pro. It's 32mph (52kph) capability is good for my part of America. I also plan to add a 52V 20AH battery to the rear rack with a voltage 'blender' for 5% more speed and 60% more range. I will increase the big sprocket for slower pedaling at high speeds. Good luck with your Ebikes and your EU rulers...
Thi si the best review on RUclips for Engwe Engine X. Can you also elaborate your review especially regarding the range with different weight levels? More info about the battery etc.
I've got an Ado A20F but this engwe is better. Probably my next bike. Best legal ebike you can get in the UK imo.
Totally agree
'legal' haha. Can unlock this thing and ride it very quick.
Did he have only assist bedal
And later how I can open trotle
And he have usb phone charging
What a beautiful bike. Great video!

@@TechTronic9000 I have 👍
I feel sorry for you with those strict regulations . that's sad and unnecessary
Yes you are right, yet I can still unlock this and ride it in my area ;)
Nobody who buys this is leaving it on the speed limited eu setting lol. You can unlock it in 30 seconds.
We may have them, but that doesn't mean we follow them it's my bike. If I want it to have a working throttle, it's damn well going to.
@@andrewtaylor2525 😁
@@andrewtaylor2525I like you're style. It's getting more pro bike these days and it would take a really sad and bored pc to bust you at the side of the road! As long as its certified and stamped '250 watt' that's all they would care about. Looking at getting the engine x as its foldable and I don't need the front basket like on the l20.
Great review, well done.
Glad you liked it!
Did you get to 45 by throttle or pedaling? What would be the cadence here if pedaling at ~35?
For 45km/h you get on a very long stretch of road, at 35km/h the cadence is getting to fast to sustain, yu need a bigger chain ring. The bike comes stock optimized for ~25km/h & assisted modes. You you want faster speeds and don't have problems with the EU speed limit you might look at the Engine PRO model.
How are the mechanical brakes & how long before you need to change the mechanical brake wiring, how do you change the brake pads
They work pretty well and will last for a good amount of time. You don't need to change the wiring, just the pads when they are out and that can take a good amount of thousands of km.
Hi, when unlocked, it's a truly 750w motor? the same as the EP2pro? and all the bikes or only some model?
Aaaand tks for the answer😂
Yes it's truly a higher power motor!
@@TechTronic9000 thanks a lot
Good review. I have a question between the Pro and the X... the Pro holds the components better... hydraulic brakes, suspension, battery, screen... buying the X is to go legal.
Which do you recommend?
Buy the fast one
So by default out of factory the throttle bar doesn't respond at all? But you can easily enable and disable it?
Yes you can enable it easy, check my other videos where I explain how to do it.
You can easily change it so you don't need to pedal at all and also unlock the full speed of the motor by the screen.
Can someone plesae guide me how switch between throtle mode and assitance mode as in this video only there are two time lines for both
Have a look here ruclips.net/video/Xi2UKXCd77w/видео.html
I'm not allowed to have a twist grip, not even when it's deactivated, now I've deactivated it and put it in the back of my side pocket, because when I remove it from the controller, the display always shows Error 22 instead of my speed and I can't make many settings. Does anyone have any experience of how to bridge the situation where the controller thinks there is a throttle grip on it? I don't need a gas grip either, I have an e-scooter without pedalling
If you have the engine pro or x etc, then you can hide the throttle in the frame behind the controller, cut the wires "splice" in a wireless throttle and you got a removabke throttle. Just google wireless throttle. There is company making them
Hi, good review, which would you choose the Engine pro or X.
The X can be with slopes of inclination of 30 or 40% ?
That is a very thought choice, personally because I'm not fully restricted to 250W, I slightly prefer the PRO because it has larger battery, hydraulic brakes and more interesting controller with ECO/ Normal / Sport modes. On the X I like the geared motor as it has a one way clutch and no drag resistance when you are not pedaling.
@@TechTronic9000 Thanks for the reply. The issue is that in Spain (EU) more than 250W is illegal.
It's a shame Engwe doesn't put the same components in the X.
The point is that with the X I don't fall short of power to climb hills and go along the beach.
The X has even more torque than the PRO so it should be fine for hills and beach.
Engine x or m20? What do you prefer?
I'm a little confused. Does the X share the same hub motor as the Pro? Is it just restricted to make it EU compliant?
The X shares the same hub as the EP-2 PRO, they are planetary geared motors with one way clutch. The Engine PRO has a direct drive motor.
can the x be delimited through the setting?@@TechTronic9000
I think i find my new christmas present, i have the ado a20f+ now for almost a year and still love it, but i think this bike has more to offer, don't you think so?👍😎
The A20F+ is good, yet the Engine X is a different bike, size wise they are similar but the performance is totally different. The battery on the ENGWE has higher voltage and higher capacity this enables much more longer range and faster speed than the A20F, then you also have full suspension making it more comfortable. In other words it's definitely a real upgrade.
Does this bike get up steep hills with the 250W? or need to be unlocked to get up them steep hills ?
Yes, it has very good climbing power even when it's still locked.
@@TechTronic9000 nice one good to hear
10:10 I'm confused, so does this actually have a 1000w motor but is software limited to 250w that can be unlocked?
The motor works perfectly in a power range, thus it can run at 250W and can also run at 1000W. The controller is also capable of doing both so it's your option to unlock / lock depending on your area and road.
Hello there !!Does this same applies for ep2 pro EU version (250w) also ?????@@TechTronic9000
Hello , knowing that you can trick the 250w to ride up to 45kmh, what will be the difference with a 750w engine (on the same bike ) knowing also that you can trick it to 45kmh? Thanks 👍
The motor on this bike runs also at 750W+ when you unlock ;)

Really nice review Bro! Thanks a lot! But I have some questions for you please! : How is the bike going up? I live in the mountains and to go to work there is a 2km slope. How is it for winter? Is it suitable for driving through snow on the road? Thanks in advance!
For very steep hills I would look at the geared motor versions such as the X24 / E26 models (you can see them on my channel). They provide much more torque. You can also take a look at the new ENGINE Pro V2 which is a real beast with a 52V battery, torque sensor and torque boosted motor tinyurl.com/yknhvr8n
@@TechTronic9000 Thanks a lot Bro! But I though the Engine X was the only one of the folding fat tyre bikes that was legal in Europe! And look, all the Engwes sold in EU can be Unlocked and used with the throttle alone? Thanks in advance for your help!!!!🙏🙏🙏
how do i disable the throttle on engine pro? in my country it cannot be used.

Im interested in This question too
Your answers are always very helpful. Thank you.I want to buy this bike. Is it possible to regulate the throttle to 6 km in the menu? Then the throttle would be conform to EU laws. Also, can you tell me the diameter of the rack tubes? Thanks
You have push assistance for up to ~5km/h, that should also works with throttle disabled.
actually yes that is possible .... you have to press + and - simultaneously to enter the first menu.... then again + and - simultaneously then in that menu go for the 6th parameter HND there you got 2 options... HL and HF.
HL is to switch between using the throttle for just walking mode (till 6km) or fully active. with HF you can select if the throttle always has full power or if its depending on which pas level you are
It should already come out of the box limited so it complies with eu regulations. On the screen you can change It to go full speed though.
@@Dave-rs3xx How can you get 1000 Watts a 250 watt motor
Thanks for the review!! Def know which bike I'm getting🙏. Do you reckon prices will drop after the summer?
The prices will probably not drop as everything is getting more expensive, and the trend of economy and eco is increasing so the sales & demand is getting higher.
@@TechTronic9000 good point! But i think there were some Christmas discounts last December by engwe weren't there??
Yes winter times usually comes with promos as there are not a lot of sales.
I have just ordered Engine X please answer following questions:
1.) Will the bike work on pure Electric mode if no how to turn it on.
2.) You have achieved 45 of speed may I know it was Pedal Assist or pure electric.
3.) The Hardware of throttle accelerator does the bike comes with it and it wont be working right ?
4.) To make this similar to Engine EP 2 Pro do we have to do any
1) yes, it will work on pure electric mode, you just need to enable it.
2) you can achieve it in both modes, but the top speed depends on your weight, outside temperature, battery charge level, tire pressure and several other factors.
3) yes it comes with the throttle but it will be locked, so you will need to enable it.
4) it could be similar with the ep2 pro
So when its unlocked you can use the throttle to start the bike from a standstill
Could you please let me know how to unlock it
Hold throttle all the way back, switch off, continue to hold it back, swith back on, continue to hold it back, wait 8 seconds and let go. It will say error 22 on the screen but that confirms it has unlocked it.
hey what is the max range u can drive until the battery is empty
Depends on a lot of factors such as speed, assisted level, if you unlock it, temperature, hills, etc. You can get anything from 30 to 60+km range.

Great and detailed review.
Depends on adjustments, it can work up to 25km/h or unlocked it can help you get to 40+km/h
How long the Battery last?
By the way, I live in England. I want buy a E-Bike in England but I don't know the regulations.
For the UK you need the X as it adheres to the local laws from the EU and UK which needs to be limited to 25km/h, max. 250W power, no working throttle (or limited to 6km/h). The X also permits unlocking for private road usage and you can get up to 40+km/h, close to 1000W power and fully enable throttle.
@@TechTronic9000 what about Denmark laws?
Have you done a range test with just pas?
I did get 30km out of a mixed ride which means top speed of over 40km/h, full acceleration, slow rides, assisted mode and some forest runs. After that the battery indicator was still showing full bars!
Hi, could you do a review on how to d restrict the bike because I'm thinking of getting rid of my ado a20f and buying a engwe engine x. That would be great 👍
Hello, I will probably add this guide tomorrow on my channel, or maybe later tonight.
Just buy the Engine Pro, it is already derestricted. Although the motor power will also be illegal then, not just the speed.
I'm going to get the engine pro and then have 3 modes as 'legal' road going modes and then have 2 modes as offroad options.
I'm not sure if this is safe or if my bike could get seized, but I looked into licensing it as a motorcycle also as no special categories exist in my country, and it seems I cannot do that either as there is no vehicle serial number that I am aware of.
EU laws are handicapping the best segment of the ebike market - that is, the 500w to 1500w up to 30mph segment. Perfect as a realistic car replacement, but almost impossible to use legally in most EU countries.
@@ddood8563 The pro will still be illegal as it's not marked as a 250w on the motor. Now, the chance of getting caught are slim BUT if you do get caught you will end up with points on your license (they still can issue points even if you haven't a license) and your bike confiscated. That is if you are a UK resident.
very nice review, thanx! .. what a pity that they didn´t use hydraulic brakes 😞
Yes I agree, but you can always quickly and cheaply upgrade with semi-hydraulic such as the xtech.
@@TechTronic9000 honestly, i wouldn´t do that - for reliability and safety reasons - don´t really trust that parts; prefer better mechanical calipers - if necessary. btw., for me the unlocking is also not about the top speed but having max. power for steeper slopes; therefore it becomes a brake topic going downhill.
Hi "TechTronic9000", what's the weight of the bike?
It has around ~35kg
What is the maximum speed? Can it be unlocked with the display screen?
60
Yes it can be unlocked easy, I have added a video on my channel how to do it. Loaded top speed is around 45km/h.
I would like to have it but I live on the second floor and 35 kg is too much to carry.
I also carry it two floors, keeps me in shape! LOL :)
Does it recharge when you don't use the motor ?
No, and that doesn't in ebike. You can look at the ENGWE Engine PRO, that one has regen brakes that charge the battery when you are using the brakes.
Wait... Is it possible to make it output 1000w?? insteed of 250w
It's simple, an electric motor works in a power range that is allowed by its internal windings. The X motor can run at 250W and can also be run at 1000W. The difference comes from the controller which actually "pumps" the amps in form of the power. Because of the EU limits this motor was developed as it can still have good performance even at low 250W power.
Hi, and wot the name of your new controller?
It's a 750 watt motor with a peak output of over 1,000
It's just limited to 250w in eu but if you unlock the top speed then it's much higher.
Hello . I've bought one Engine X but I don't like the display .I am looking for a display in color and with a percentage display that is compatible with the Engine X.
Are there any models that have the same pin assignment?
Usually the display is matched with the motor controller so it's hard to change them.
How do you turn a 250w motor into 1000w ? I dont understand.
You don't. Its a 250 watt motor and when unlocked it will drain the shit out of the battery. Best get the engine pro as it has better transmission, hydraulic brakes and 16ah battery for the price of an extra 30
Forgot to mention that engine x doesn't have the energy recovery function like the 750 watt engine pro has. Engine X is a pure rip off and it is not selling well. This bike is too heavy for a 250 watt motor going up steep hills especially long climbs.
It's simple, an electric motor works in a power range that is allowed by its internal windings. The X motor can run at 250W and can also be run at 1000W. The difference comes from the controller which actually "pumps" the amps in form of the power. The problem with the PRO is that in EU it is illegal and you can get huge fines and bike taken away. With the X you mitigate this. Power uphill is great as this indeed lacks energy recovery as it run a geared hub motor that has internal reduction gear with a ratio of approx 4.5 to 1 so the motor even with 250W has roughly ~4.5 times more torque than a normal hub motor. The regeneration works only on non geared direct drive motors which do drain huge amount of power to get all the torque while the geared ones have less specific power consumption.

Maybe needs a bit of oil?!
A World of Difference
Yes indeed!
So you are saying that the 250 watt limited when it's unlimited is 1000watt.
Surely that is not correct.
It's correct, when unlocked peak power is up to 1000W.
This 48V 250W motor from which company?
It's the OEM motor from the bike producer ENGWE
Does it say 250w on the motor it’s self?
On the X you get "250W" on the motor, also on the frame of the bike, along with the CE / certification number and the noted speed limit of 25km/h.
@@TechTronic9000 sooo…. I don’t know… what is this motor really? Is this somehow a higher than 250w? How long can it Go
Depends on you speed, weight, temperature, etc. You can do anything between 30 to 100km.
Im not sure I get it. This is a bike with a 250 watt motor right? So how do you make it go faster. The rules here In denmark is rather stupid. Their allowed to go up to 45 km per hour. But only with a 250 watt motor. Will engine x go faster if you buy it with a 16ah battery? The throttle thing seems strange, as basically all cargo bikes have it. So its allowed on those.
ohh and thanks for the video :)
I think the controller is set to EU limits but pedal assist plus leg power can greatly exceed the 'limits'
Typically more amps = more power. More amp hours = more range. Higher voltage = higher speed
Is the bike relaibel?
@BeardedVengeance yes rip my English
Usually yes, but like all China products it needs a few check such as brake adjustment, gear adjustment, checking of all the screws. In the past the older ENGWE models had some issues with the motor controller which was failing very fast due to overheat & overloading. This was upgraded in the later models and didn't have any more issues.
How does it ride when the battery is empty? Do you feel the motor holding you back or is there no resistance?
The motor on the X has a one way clutch so it completely disengages the motor when it's not running so not putting any resistance.
Hi
Me and my friend want to have an e-bike and we are trying to save up and it would really help with a good discount code if you could give one
That's a shame about it only having 7 gears. If it had 8 gears like the engine pro then it could have gone much faster than 20mph in peddle assist mode. Peddle assist is what I use most, so there is no point in me upgrading from the Ado A20F as that can also do 20mph in peddle assist. I hope Engwe upgrades that one day so I can reconsider buying it.
It's not so important the number gears, it's more important to have a bigger range between the 1st and the last. The X has indeed rather close gears so you can not comfortably pedal over 30km/h, nor go super steep hills in 1st gear with no assistance. Still the motor can overcome the hill and while going faster than 30km/h you can go full electric.
Pai iati pinioane cu 8 și pune in loc la ăla cu 7
hi m8 you can change the cog and buy one with less teeth you will get more and keep up with the peddling when motor cicks in and go more than 25/27 mph

@@TechTronic9000 you can just unlock it and use the throttle then go nearly 30mph lol.
Hello and thank you for your video. I also live in Europe but I must admit that I find the X badly placed in terms of price, it is sold in my opinion too expensive compared to the pro. There is only 30€ difference (not to mention a pack with the pro and the bag at the same price as the pro alone) and in this case the X is more expensive if you add the price of the bag!. The Pro has a hydraulic fork, hydraulic brakes, better grips, more teeth on the chainring, shimano altus not shimano tourney, color display, 16ah battery, more color choices (the X is only available only in black). No really the X is too expensive, the Pro is much better for the same price.
I want pro engwe too,but is not allowed in eu, the X engwe has certification that means is legally and you can change settings to go faster
On this side I agree, but the placement price of this product is not good. It is ultimately less successful than the pro, with a battery that alone costs Engwe much less money. There are definitely too many technical differences between the two and at the same price. They should have released a Pro for Europe. There finally we say to ourselves that at the same price we simply have better and that it would be a shame not to take the pro. So concerning me, I have the feeling of being fooled too much by taking the X.
I'm thinking of taking the pro and limiting the speed to 25km/h on the screen, and being careful. Anyway I think that in case of serious control the X or even the Pro it will be the same, an investigation will have no trouble seeing that this bike has capacities that can exceed the legal speed limits in Europe.
The X is more expensive as it has the needed certifications for the EU, it also has specialized controller that supports dual working mode , it has different motor that works both at 250W and also close to 1000W. So yes it's not that equipped as the PRO, yet has good performance and compliance.
What is the dual working mode ? The pro doesn't have it ?

Wow they destroyed everything good about electric bikes for you guys. In America I basically have an electric motorcycle with 750w . The peddles move so we can still call it a bicycle, therefore no regulations , license or insurance. They have to be sold under the ability to only do 25, 5 minutes on RUclips and that little problems solved. No cop even knows or cares. Just don't be stupid on it and they don't care.
Well I'm borderline OK with unlimited power also ;)
I don’t think the laws are defined with 250w limits because people can be stupid. I looked through the discussions why these regulations existed but there were no direct reasoning explanations. Instead many users had some idea why this limit exists;
- The EU wants to weaken Chinese brands to sell e-bikes since they had a lot of improvements with reasonable costs :)
- Another theory says petrol companies do not just like the idea people giving up car usage. They still somewhat have a strong lobby even delaying the laws for electrification of the vehicles,
- In Northern and Western Europa (primarily Denmark and Sweden -I live in Sweden-), where bicycles are mostly used in the world, most people already commute by regular bicycles not e-bikes. Bike lanes are pretty well defined, roads have almost no slope at all and commuting distance is very reasonable (mostly less than 10km) So they think a bicycle with 20 km range with pedal assist should be pretty sufficient for anyone.
- Using a bicycle without any pedal assist, is not different than using a motorcycle, so why shouldn’t they use a motorcycle instead? (prices are very close) And why should anyone bother people in bike lanes where people also use scooters and regular bikes with less speeds?
How many times are you going to get stopped by the police to check what sort of bike you are using. I am sure the police have better things to do. As long as your not going at absurd speeds and looking like your not in control, then I wouldn't bother about having a throttle. In that respect I would go for the Engwe Engine Pro. A far better bike for the money.
That truly depends on your country, there have been a lot of reports of cops giving fines for bikes that have throttle or go faster than 25km/h. So with this bike you can personally choose what you want to do.
You Forget to think about the consequences of an accident and the risk to have to pay for thise conséquences of illegality
Este two nu doi 🤣
WAIT… HOW are you going 45kmh on a 250w motor? 😂😂😂😳
"Electric magic", when you unlock this you are pumping close to 1000W ;)
@@TechTronic9000 so is this basically a downgraded Engine Pro because of the brakes?
I still have curiosity about the motor… I’m wondering is it really a 750w or is it somehow a 250w motor overclocked with a beefy controller system? 😂
The motor is simply able to run normal at 250W and also up to 1000W.
So not a review at all then? It's a promotional video! 😢
