Brahmer Tamers.....Brahman Cow and Calf Sort

Stockmanship skills in a ranching operation are a must have, in my opinion. Cattle handling facilities that are designed to work with those stockmanship skills and animals natural instincts are equally as important. We invested in new facilities a couple of years ago. As is often the case in our business, we did all of the work ourselves. A new Bud Box and corrals, different race (alley) set up, and even a new custom built hydraulic squeeze chute with a roof! As is also often the case with us, it is still a work in progress.
We are using a temporary set up to facilitate frequent sorts of cows and cows from calves, hoping to settle on a permanent design and move forward with construction after AI season is over. This video was taken on maybe the herd's 20th trip through the setup. No, it did not go as smoothly the first several times, and yes, we did have some mistakes and bobbles even this time. But, we sorted 36 specific cows out of a herd of 180+ and separated the calves (most of them) in 23 minutes. This is the first 5 minutes of the sort.
Goals for the future are to be able to complete this task with only one person, which will require a few more tweaks. Overall we are very happy with the setup and have learned a ton from experimenting.
