- It’s finally here! Adam briefly introduces Xcelon, a new fully-featured eurorack mixer from Boredbrain, along with its companion the XP3 channel expander.
Xcelon is an all-analog six-channel stereo audio mixer for eurorack modular systems. With an interface designed for immediate hands-on control and visual feedback, plus extensive CV and expandability, the module is a powerful mixing tool for both performance and production.
Features
- Six stereo/dual-mono channels with low-noise analog circuitry
- Two stereo FX sends and two dedicated FX returns
- Two stereo output mix busses selectable per-channel
- Variable input gain for both modular and line-level sources
- Long-travel volume faders with responsive LED indicators
- Balance controls with pan law curve and dual-mono crossfade mode
- Clickless mutes and VU meters on all channels
- Twenty-six discrete control voltage inputs
- Configurable jumpers for pre/post-fader FX and meters, plus volume VCA mode
- Expansion ports for channel expanders, direct outputs, and more

Hi! Two questions: (1) Can you plug in external line level balanced outputs through TRS cables or should it always be unbalanced? (2) it should be ok to connect unbalanced external outputs (i.e. nord drum 2) through TRS jack to minijack into Xcelon, correct? I understand nothing will be transmitted over the ring anyways. Thanks!
Hi. I assume you mean inputs, and the answer is yes. Unbalanced signals on TS cables are always backwards compatible with unbalanced TRS inputs because the ring signal is shorted to ground.
@@BoredbrainMusic Sorry, I was probably not too clear. (1) I want to connect a nord drum 2 (which has unbalanced outputs) into Xcelon using TRS cables, I assume this can be done with no danger since no signal is transmitted over the ring, correct? (2) Now, could I connect say an Analog Rytm which has balanced outputs using TRS cables with no danger either into Xcelon? Bottom line I am trying to confirm that Xcelon is designed to accept both balanced and unbalanced audio without trouble.
@@pau.vilella Hi. There is no danger of any of this being connected in any way you wish. If either end of the cable is unbalanced/TS, then the whole thing is unbalanced. So to answer your question, Xcelon is not designed to take advantage of balanced signals, but you can still plug them into Xcelon and they'll become unbalanced, and work just fine.

Curious, no headphone mix?
You can use the AB bus selection as a cue send. The actual headphone circuit is in our Monitr module, or you can use one from other makers too.
Ok cool thank you! I got a Monitr for when my Xcelon comes in, also picked up a stereo compressor which I plan to put inline on mix-bus B, on which I will put kick and/or bass :)
by default is aux 1 prefader?
By default it is post-fader, but is easily changed to pre-fader with a single jumper on the back for each channel.
@@BoredbrainMusic I dont know if I have ever been so excited for a mixer. I resisted eurorack for the last 15 years because there was nothing to mix it the way I was used to. WMD mixer is close but... you need a bored brain to bring it to the next level. And apparently/ironically Boredbrainmusic has done just this.
