In the 80s and 90s Disney was looking to expand their empire beyond movies and theme parks. There were a lot of weird experiments done in the 1990s and one of those was a 5 story tall, indoor interactive theme park known as DisneyQuest. Disney built 2 locations, one in Chicago and the other in Walt Disney World at Downtown Disney / Disney Springs. The Chicago location was pretty much an immediate failure but the Florida location remained open for nearly 20 years. Disney Quest was filled with the latest and greatest of 90s technology like virtual reality simulators and of course arcade games like Pac Man, Galaga, and Centipede. They even had a few rides like Cyber Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear's Astroblaster. To a young Ben Laurence, Disney Quest was the coolest place in the world, right next to Disney - MGM Studios of course. In the summer of 2017 it was announced that DisneyQuest would be closing to make way for the NBA Experience. Disney Quest sat abandoned for over a month before demolition finally began. A majority of the iconic decor was sent off to the land fills but what was the fate of the vintage arcade games that entertained guests for nearly 20 years? On July 4, 2017 an online auction was held where Cast Members had the chance to take home a piece of Disney Quest history. The remaining games were sold off to other arcades or private collectors. In 2019 three DisneyQuest games popped up at an auction in North Carolina. The games included Centipede, Frogger, and the extremely rare Discs of TRON. All three games where sold off to private collectors and that brings. Join Tresh, Reilly and myself as we go on a QUEST (see what I did there) to recover one of these abandoned Disney World arcade games.

I totally remember as a kid begging my folks to put out the money for Disney quest in downtown Orlando. It was pricey. But making my own rollercoaster at that age blew a young minds mind 🤯

At the timestamp 0:42 I was instantly hit back with nostalgia. Me and my parents were playing this same exact game, and I even remember some parts.

Amazing video! That is absolutely incredible that you own a part of DisneyQuest! I’m very happy to say that I did indeed go to DisneyQuest. It was always such a blast and I was pretty sad when it finally bit the dust a few years ago. As for my favorite parts, I personally really enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean and Animation Academy. Also this is my first video of yours I’ve seen. I’m definitely happy to have discovered your channel and will totally check out more of your videos!

My Late Wife & I went to Disney Quest in 2004 & it was exciting to play the sit down Star Wars Arcade,Centipede like you are blessed to have there.I must have played Frogger for almost a hour! Pretty much every game I played during the 80’s when I was a kid into a teen at various arcades were there! Congrats to you have a piece of Disney History & you have one of my favorite games Tron that I fed a hell of a lot of quarters! Cool video! Glad I bumped into it!
Awesome video, Ben! That’s really cool that you got the opportunity to own a piece of one of the most interesting projects in Disney history! Disney Quest was so cool! I used to love going there every year when we went to Florida! My favorite part was the arcade, they had so many classics and it my first time seeing lots of those games! I remember playing on that Centipede cabinet and many of the others! It’s great to see relics like this survive!
Thanks so much Josh!! I loved playing all the classic games at Disney Quest as well. The environment/theming in there was pretty cool as well. Definitely miss Disney Quest but I’m glad I have this piece and am able to share it with everyone here :) A lot of the surviving DQ games probably got converted back to their original forms but I plan on keeping this exactly the way DQ left it.

Dude that’s sick! I went a couple times back in the day & as a mighty ducks movie & animated series fan, I was obsessed with the MD pinball slam game. Would kill to have a piece of that game in my place!

Cool unfortunately we never had Disney Quest at this Disneyland here in Anaheim before ya know
We loved DisneyQuest!! The best place to get away the Florida summertime heat or end the day after dinner. It was free with our Ultimate season passes so yeah we really miss thst place. Our favorite family game was no doubt the virtual reality Pirates of the Caribbean. And my favorite memory was the day My Wife and I and our three little kids got the top score and became Kings of the Caribbean!!! It is bitter sweet for us to go to “Downtown Disney” yes that’s what we will always call it.... Very good memories from those days. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the excellent game find 👍👏

Honestly I’m probably going to leave it an lcd since that’s the way it came from Disney Quest. Try and keep it all original to Disney Quest ya know
@@BenLaurence fair enough! At some point, you should document the changes Disney did on the inside. Like the monitor used and how they added the Freeplay to the coin door. Have fun!
I am still curious where the other machines went - any clues? Not the easy cabinets the really big ones. The Virtual Machines - not the small non Disney Machines.

Can the lcd screen be changed to a crt or is it not worth it?
If it was any other game I’d put a crt in it but since it left Disney Quest with the lcd I want to keep it that way. Plus crt’s are a pain in the ass lol
