As a kid I remember going to the electronics section and imagining all the stuff I'd buy when I was a grown up and had my own money, not realizing that it would be so different now. Good memories!
As a kid i was playing with other kids outside and running in our village. Basically this continues even if i am 16. Now we don't play but explore nearby mountains and caves amazing huh? Now i live i the city but my village is really close.

I remember when I would have to beg my mom to take me. Or to even let me get something. And when I did get something it was like heaven, the feeling you got when you bought something from there. I worked in management at TRU. There was never a doubt in my mind that they would eventually fail. I got out about 10 years before the end. Management was fully disconnected from the changing nature of retailing. They were focused on maintaining a strict cookie-cutter formula in which initiative and change were discouraged. After so many years of success, with little competition, they thought it would last forever. They didn't see it coming. Faced with a steadily eroding market share they were incapable of putting forth a meaningful response. They just kept on keeping on. They were a victim of their own arrogance.
If it wasn't for Romney and his Bain Capital firm buying out Toys R Us, they'd still be in operation today as its former self, but as a smaller yet functional chain.
When I recall all of my trips there, my strongest recall for some reason is the smell of the store. I guess it was from a vast amount of various types of plastics, but it was so specific. That and the “shopping spree” contest they would do every year. A few lucky kids would get 10 minutes to run around the store and fill up carts with whatever they wanted. I wanted to win that sooo bad. I even drew up a map of the store and planned my route/what to grab. Oh childhood!

My mom worked at a Toys R Us and when it closed she and the friends she made lost their jobs. I felt SO sad and all the employees took one last photo of all the employees together. 😔

My local Toys R Us has been gone for 1 year now, but it's now a Northgate Market, I'm pretty sad but glad we have a Hispanic grocery store by us!
Memory:
I remember when I was little my mom would take me and my siblings to toys r us. I would go through the play kitchens section and Shopkins section. I would beg my mom for Dora, and barbies. I always wanted a mini car, but I never got one. The last thing I got from there was a Beanie boo tin box with a lock and key... I miss you toys r us. Always will be a Toys R Us kid. :)

As employees, we were "given" $20 a day for misc. discounts. I got into trouble many a time on a kids birthday and they got a toy bargain. Lego was not allowed but anything else, it was a treat to see a smiling kid leaving the store. I was Geoffrey on birthday events. OMG, crying now.

This makes me so sad. 😭 Every year my mom would take me and my brothers to toys r us and we would spend all of our Christmas and birthday money. I loved running in there and seeing all the toys. That place was like paradise to me and I hate seeing it gone. My mom loved toys r us and she was as sad as we were when it was gone. 😭 I still play with toys!!

My grandmother was born in 1924 when toysRus was not evented and toys were creepy and she had to probably had to play with stuffed dolls with creepy faces and dull red and grey dresses or shirts and MY mom was a baby when M ST. Hellen's exploded she probably cried and my grandma was probably so scared because she had a newborn baby. My childhood store had the logo with the yellow R and no star. Then when they remodeled the store to add the Babies "R" Us section, they also updated the store front logo to the latest version. They also took away the red, yellow, green and blue tile layout from the front of the store during the remodel. Curious here, but did you take the composition book? That was a really cool piece of TRU history you found.

I will miss this place . Sad thing about life is nothing lasts forever . I’m glad I got to experience running through the aisles , lightsaber battles with my brother , playing the demos in the game section and leaving with a new toy . You can blame amazon , target and Walmart for low toy prices but you have to consider that TOYS R US was in. Debt and failed to catch up . Everything combined forced them to file for bankruptcy . They had a good run tho . Ok never forget that colorful sign and that big ass giraffe 🦒 😢

Yes! I own a cart, along with both Toys R Us and Babies R Us Baskets, along with a Price Checker which is in my wall, I got an Xbox Kiosk from my local location and a phone which announced announcements, I also have a few of the isle signs, with shelfs. Along with a Restrooms sign.

Thats really cool that they had 3 versions of the logo on one building. My local store closed in 2017 and I have some really good toys from there and my first PS4 disc was actually from Toys R Us.

Listen, either Toys "R" Us had a big good heart, and a magical place where kids could be kids, even with their Moms and Dads, and their grandparents too, just like Disney does. As we still live in United States, if you wanna see Toys"R"Us again, maybe you should come travel and visit to Canada. It still safe for now. And it's got 82 locations. Not in United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
Even it's still got a worldwide of locations too, like France, Asia, Hong Kong, South Africa, Germany, China, and Japan. This could be your chance if you want to shop. It's your choice. So long.

I think it was 1974, my mom took us to the grand opening of a toys-r-us in Houston on the Katy freeway. I remember meeting two celebrities - Lee Majors (from the Six Million Dollar Man) and Cornelius from 'Planet of the Apes'. Toys -r-us was a magical place for kids.
