What Is Meat Fruit?: London's Fruit Made Out of Chicken Meat - The Meat Show

  • In this episode of The Meat Show, host Nick Solares continues his carnivore’s tour of London with a visit to Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. His mission is to take the famous meat fruit, a dish that Solares calls “one of the most unique dishes in all of meat eating.”
    Meat fruit is essentially a liver parfait, wrapped in a mandarin orange flavored jelly, and shaped to have the exact size and texture of a mandarin orange. The appearance is a little uncanny. Chef Ashley Palmer-Watts explains how to eat the dish: “The balance of the gel is the right proportion [...] When you spread it on the bread, you’re getting the condiment along with the parfait.” This particular dish was invented at Dinner by Heston, but it pays homage to a classic dish made of minced meat and shaped to resemble an apple. Palmer-Watts elaborates, “we always start looking backwards into history, we take inspiration from that.”
    Eater is the one-stop-shop for food and restaurant obsessives across the country. With features, explainers, animations, recipes, and more - it’s the most indulgent food content around. So get hungry.

    "I like it, because it's whimsical, it's playful, yet it's, y'know, very serious cooking, and I guess that's kinda' what the Meat Show's all about."
    Melted my heart a little.

    The Knightsbridge Grill had been around since the reign of Charles I or II. It closed in the early 1970s. One of their treasures after dinner was presenting frozen sorbet fruits each resembling the fruit it represented. Poetry. It's nice to see that Knightsbridge continues the tradition of artificial fruit. The orange looks fantastic and contains my favourite paté, chicken liver. Thanks for sharing!

    I've had this dish 3 times in the past and to this day say its one of the most perfect bites of food i have ever eaten
    Having said that. 1 serve is too much for a single person it is so rich that you will feel sick after eating 1/2. Its far better to be shared as part of an entree with another person.

      Zoey Towns yeah mainly cause we get shat on for making plantbased meat alternatives, which pisses off a lot of omnivores. If the omnivore makes meat that looks like plantbased food it's fine though? that's kinds weird tbh

    • @flangedmaceforthewin6563
      @flangedmaceforthewin6563 7 лет назад +1

      +dianosaur
      No , it's not weird at all.
      Vegans choose to stay away from all animal products, because of huge empathy for the animals, for health reasons, to save the world/climate, spirituality, self proclaimed true/maybe higher morality, or for what other reason they come up with.
      It's quite understandable and logical, that others, who don't share those beliefs, think it's hypocritical, and question the beliefs of vegans who consume such plant based meat alternatives, which mimic, how ever sucessful, the appearance, shape, texture, smell and taste of their original meat counterparts and also, in most cases, have the same name with a little vegan sign. Not to speak of, again in most cases, the tons of additives and heavy processing, which probably put most heavy processed meat products to shame.
      We omnivores, in general, don't discriminate against certain food groups/animal products, beside possible government- or religious restrictions, cultural differences of which animals are considered food and personal preferences.
      Therefore, quite the contrary to vegans consuming/making plant based meat alternatives, it's perfectly fine, awesome and most important, damn delicious, for us omnivores, since we use all available food groups, to make and consume meat based, fruit/vegetable mimicking food items, without being weird at all. :D
