What Is Meat Fruit?: London's Fruit Made Out of Chicken Meat - The Meat Show

- In this episode of The Meat Show, host Nick Solares continues his carnivore’s tour of London with a visit to Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. His mission is to take the famous meat fruit, a dish that Solares calls “one of the most unique dishes in all of meat eating.”
Meat fruit is essentially a liver parfait, wrapped in a mandarin orange flavored jelly, and shaped to have the exact size and texture of a mandarin orange. The appearance is a little uncanny. Chef Ashley Palmer-Watts explains how to eat the dish: “The balance of the gel is the right proportion [...] When you spread it on the bread, you’re getting the condiment along with the parfait.” This particular dish was invented at Dinner by Heston, but it pays homage to a classic dish made of minced meat and shaped to resemble an apple. Palmer-Watts elaborates, “we always start looking backwards into history, we take inspiration from that.”
Eater is the one-stop-shop for food and restaurant obsessives across the country. With features, explainers, animations, recipes, and more - it’s the most indulgent food content around. So get hungry.

"I like it, because it's whimsical, it's playful, yet it's, y'know, very serious cooking, and I guess that's kinda' what the Meat Show's all about."
Melted my heart a little.
Are we just gonna ignore how amazing that bread looks.
Why does it look like a steak?
You mean the one perfumed, scented with rosemary thyme and garlic? Totally didn't even mention it..
@@stupidface6180 its grilled on josper it is actually a sourdough bread :)
i always look in the comments with hope someone asking if it was platonic ideal and never get disappointed
The Knightsbridge Grill had been around since the reign of Charles I or II. It closed in the early 1970s. One of their treasures after dinner was presenting frozen sorbet fruits each resembling the fruit it represented. Poetry. It's nice to see that Knightsbridge continues the tradition of artificial fruit. The orange looks fantastic and contains my favourite paté, chicken liver. Thanks for sharing!
Chicken liver is better than duck liver? Fat cap
Nick is getting better. He's actually letting the guest speak instead of just talking over them.
This costs £18.50, about $24 for anyone thats wondering...
Really? If that's true, then for a five star hotel in London, that's not at all expensive.
WALZ97 that's cheap
I was expecting a lot more
WALZ97 not bad if you think about it
is euro currency higher than the usa?
Meat dipped in MANDARIN juice at the joint at MANDARIN Oriental Hyde Park. What a match! The meal Nick ate on this episode of THE MEAT SHOW is Instagrammable. I can tell by the camera's being placed besides his meal. Like no other meat on earth!
I've had this dish 3 times in the past and to this day say its one of the most perfect bites of food i have ever eaten
Having said that. 1 serve is too much for a single person it is so rich that you will feel sick after eating 1/2. Its far better to be shared as part of an entree with another person.
Who went here after watching andrew from buzzfeed recreating this meat fruit?
nahh. real foodies been bout Nick Solaris
Yes
I came BACK because I was like “wait I’ve seen this before”
2:33 listen to that concussive crunch
Quite profound
I had this, it's incredible. The iberico pork chop is also stunning
OMG... give MORE bread... that is a lot of pate to eat on ONE slice of bread.....
oopopp x I've been there, when ur done with the bread they give out more. I think thats just for the decoration
But does it reflect the quintessential platonic ideal of the viscous gel-like meat animal?
shut the fuck up
I guess that comment was too concussive for you, mate.
The maillard is unfortunately a mere rumor and therefore it is not the platonic ideal
It's like he abused thesaurus for his dialogue like hell. xD
MORE bread... that is a lot of pate to eat on ONE slice of bread.
Another GREAT show
2:33, now that's what I call a profoundly concussive crunch!
You can ask Heston for the full details. Your videos are awesome.
from the thumbnail I thought it was an actual mandarin beside a grilled steak
I notice that when Nick is in high end restaurants, he describes with restraint on big words. but on the regular establishments, he tends to exaggerate.
I love the meat fruit! So cute and creative!🤩🍊🍍🍒
Love this dish! Tried it for the first time on our honeymoon.
Heston Blumental is one of my favourite celebrity chefs and I have got to try his food at least once in my life.
thats pretty incredible... looks amazing
I had to bust out my thesaurus again, but I think he liked it. ;)
I've been waiting all week to crescendo my mandarin tang.
how much orangee it looks
mandarin parfe : AM I JOKE TO YOU?
This guy knows how to critique.
0.38 'here catch me walking in to the restaurant with the shades on'
Woow this is amazing I will be trying this place
I like it because it looks so real yet so hard to make.
this is amazing the skill the taste 😍😍😍
I just came back from Croatia and a restaurant had the tangerine paté. It was fucking amazing, I had it 3 days in a row.
The Mandarin in Miami has a place called Azul. I got a scallop there for $23... A (1) Scallop.
"little crescendo of mandarin tang"
Why is everyone having a go at this man?
that looks delightful
is there a reason why the leaves are upside down?
i love this guy
Russel Bob Borromeo careful by saying that people in this comment section might bash u lol
Aditya Lee thanks for the warning. but memes aside i really like how he presents, but i like lucas more tho
Russel Bob Borromeo hahahha, poor you
u must be a douche bag as well
what song is in te beginning?
This is so anti-vegan... love it lol
this is super good 😋
PLATONIC IDEAL
Did the chef managed to get a maillard reaction on the mandarin?
It's like tofurkey for carnivores... except that this looks delicious!
ethereal.
I always order the meat fruit when I dine @Dinner...is die die must try
This is a great episode! It's time for us to make more meat food like vegan food to fight back!
Lookin' dapper, Nick!
I had this a few years back... it was very good but in a way nothing special in terms of the ingredients just very well presented.
wow so many stages. very long time to make it
Just wondering, wouldn't it be faster if they worked with dry ice? I mean, they could cut a day's worth of freezing time off.
rcradiator Cost?
Heston Blumenthal would definitely use dry ice if he wanted to. There must be a reason behind doing it this way.
Swank Nightsbridge yeah? Bludclart
Now that is art! Not my cup of tea I'd prefer a seared meat. But it looks cool
i've been to there!
Nick has 113 favourite restaurants
insane skills..
how expensive is that!?
so pate on toast but because they disguised it it'll cost 4 times more than usual
I've been there!!!!!
That probably costs like four gourmet burgers ...
Looks tasty but how much is it? :-)
£18.50 or about $24
Haha yeah, i googled the menu and yup almost 20 quid for a starter
how much you got?
It's a crescendo of £ that lead to a concussive satisfaction - fit for a carnivore!
The cheapest main course is Braised Celery with parmesan, cider apple, and smoked walnuts, for £28
Heston Blumenthal is a nutter
Oh he had shading douch glasses...
This is the response to vegan ribs
oh dear just noticed his trousers.
Meat Fruit is the Antonym vegan stake.
i mean you say chickens just a good vegetable? is it now a good fruit?
would be better if it was made into a dessert? than again, I love sweets so 😛
"grilled bread?
You mean "toast?"
Anything to justify the price I suppose.
You don't make toast on a grill.
I don’t ever want to eat at a place that has an “ethos”
he should get more view
the vegans Don't even know how to feel about this
Zoey Towns yeah mainly cause we get shat on for making plantbased meat alternatives, which pisses off a lot of omnivores. If the omnivore makes meat that looks like plantbased food it's fine though? that's kinds weird tbh
+dianosaur
No , it's not weird at all.
Vegans choose to stay away from all animal products, because of huge empathy for the animals, for health reasons, to save the world/climate, spirituality, self proclaimed true/maybe higher morality, or for what other reason they come up with.
It's quite understandable and logical, that others, who don't share those beliefs, think it's hypocritical, and question the beliefs of vegans who consume such plant based meat alternatives, which mimic, how ever sucessful, the appearance, shape, texture, smell and taste of their original meat counterparts and also, in most cases, have the same name with a little vegan sign. Not to speak of, again in most cases, the tons of additives and heavy processing, which probably put most heavy processed meat products to shame.
We omnivores, in general, don't discriminate against certain food groups/animal products, beside possible government- or religious restrictions, cultural differences of which animals are considered food and personal preferences.
Therefore, quite the contrary to vegans consuming/making plant based meat alternatives, it's perfectly fine, awesome and most important, damn delicious, for us omnivores, since we use all available food groups, to make and consume meat based, fruit/vegetable mimicking food items, without being weird at all. :D
Is he from England???
Why olive oil on bread before paté???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Is he Harry Kane’s uncle?
00.38 lol look how short his pants are :D
A delicious mouth feel...lol
Did anybody noticed in some parts of the intro he was talking wayyyy tooo fast????
They invented meat from plants, so to counter they invented fruit from meat.
Chef looks like nick frost
more bread!
I was about to say Nick got better, but he than said "textual contrast"
Shawn Chang he said "perfumed" bread
LOL yeah. The "perfumed" bread is what got me.
+Shawn Chang What should he have said then? "It tastes like this but then it tastes like that?" This sort of language would make you happy?
"ethos of dining"
"mouth feel" - texture?! When did "texture" get banished from society?
P.S. I read the title as meat suit :-l
i hate bread it gives me either constipation pain or diahrea
Funky.
This guy's whole life is one painfully confused existence. Not really an English accent, not really an American accent, but a confused hybrid of the two. Next we have a dweeby look and physique not unlike Milhouse from the Simpsons, but tatted up like a shredded 6 foot 3 ex con. And finally for today we have a shirt, tie, and blazer combo...but short sleeves (or sleeves not long enough, can't really tell), topped off with a random pocket handkerchief that could easily pass for the table napkin in both colour and design.
completely agree ... nick is not a man who should think about his own life for too long
Lmao
qubic99 one body bag please kind sir
qubic99 im losin ny shit lmao. u forgot to mention he was in a racist punk band and now he thinks he is classy and elegant.
qubic99 damn that was roasty
Everyone is always badgering on about how Lucas should do this...I disagree. Lucas is nice and simple..but hes too simple to discuss the complexities of food in detail. Yes Nick can be pretentious sometimes, but Lucas' whole thing is "Oh thats cool, oh thats so good".
yea despite nick's pretentious way of speaking, he's probably the best Eater has got if you want to really get to know the foods they're presenting
Straight to the comments lmfao
I gotta admit, Nick's kinda growing on me...
What a way to cut up one's mouth. They make meat fruit but can't make a proper toast.
?
It is chicken liver, not foie gras.
Omg!! So instagrammable. Must go!!!
Out there vegan lamo lol
i love how they can invite non-vegans to try plant bad substitutes
yet it'll be hate crime if we called the vegans here to try this dish
If the host was made of chocolate he would eat himself
Aaaaaaaand . . . with this England retains it's reputation as the worst place on earth for food. Which is honestly a shame because I've been to England and the food was really quite good - nothing like it's terrible international reputation.
eww. reminds me of mochi ice cream but meat version.
is he south african?
meat fruit? what new devilry is this?
Confuse the vegans lel
