shock is in the way. I've found a couple of these videos while preparing to do my 2013 optima. Started to try it yesterday, and the shock prevents the bolt from coming out. can't even get it far enough out to see the threads. not sure if it's because of model years difference or what.
Dullah Goso hard hmm? I'll try again later, but the bolt wouldn't go back far enough to force out the arm it was still holding it. and I didn't want to dent the shock or strut I guess. I'll try again this weekend when I have all day to fight with it.
Stefan N yes, I took the bottom shock bolt out too. I had to put my Jack under the swing arm in order to relieve some pressure to get the bolt in and out.
Depends on your model. I helped a friend of mine and we used a special tool designed to twist the piston, and then we had to push it back. Here's a cheap tool that can make your life easier when it comes to replacing brake pads (not my product, just sharing from experience). The car we worked on was 2015 optima slx turbo. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08G1QLCXK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and there's also this tool. shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/performance-tool-2-pin-brake-caliper-tool-w80627/11942103-p?product_channel=local&store=7248&adtype=pla&product_channel=local&store_code=7248&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7NKBBhDBARIsAHbXCB5pd1tGIpc-zbGLkPYk7eJHE98f_h7fmf2YlF8Y7ytOtmuN8wChofgaAjUCEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
What year was this Optima? Do you know if the 2015 Optima EX will have the shock in the way of getting that bolt out, and will need to unbolt the strut? Great video by the way, thanks.
Yes it does - easiest way if you don’t have a lift is to have two jacks or atleast one jack and a set of stands. Jack the car up put it on the two stands in the rear. Remove the bolt from the shock - knock it upwards out of place. When you need to put it back in if it’s tight the trick is to take the jack and put it right under the new brake rotor and slowly lift it up. It will compress the suspension allowing the bolt to line up much easier. Without doing that you can fight and beat on the arm for hours and it won’t line up.
What is that thing called you removed to get access to the screw bolt behind it I broke mines and can’t get it back in, I need to replace it but don’t know what it’s called
@@DULLAHGOSOHARD Yes i know what a watch is for and it does look like a nice watch. i just think the possibilty of damaging that watch while you're swinging hammers, banging, prying and all, is a bit of a gamble.
@@jimmymolinaro7554 oh lol it have a screen protector over the screen only time i take it off is when i have to put my hands in some tight spots other than that i keep it on it might get a few tiny scratches on the bezel but that doesn't bother me

Very thorough and well lit video. I could see everything in full detail. Explanation was great also.
Hi thanks just got a 2002 Kia that needs brakes, gonna do it myself! Thanks to your great video!

thebigbry you can lose the strut while applying pressure or you can force it out with taking out the bolt that hold the strut

hello, i have the same problem, did you figure it out?
Stefan N yes, I took the bottom shock bolt out too.
I had to put my Jack under the swing arm in order to relieve some pressure to get the bolt in and out.
Thank you , I will have to try it.
Jus wanna swap out pads, 2015 optima no need to remove that lower arm, right? Not changing rotors.
Yes no need to
Thanks! 👍🏽
How do you compress the piston with the electronic parking brake

You should not have put the bolt back in the opposite way. It will make it harder to get the bolts out later
Nope makes it 10x easier. Thats what your suppose to do
Is this true for the 2009 LX Model?
Did you open the master cylinder cap when you pushed in the caliper?
You dont have to
do you have to bleed the rear brakes?
arry a no you dont need to if you just changing the rotor amd pads
OMG! Thank you!!! Pretty straight forward job. Your video helped immensely.
Thank you so much for responding!
arry a don't think so never seen anyone do it
Is this the same process for a 2018 kia optima?
Yes it should
@@DULLAHGOSOHARD It was the exact same process for the 2018 except the annoying 19mm suspension bolt. Thank you. Great video!
what year is this Kia ?
That got to be a old one. I have a 2016 sxt and you don't need to do all that at all. Even to take off the rotates
What kind of electric impact drill are you using?
makita
Gracias buen video me ayudo mucho
Is the process the same for a 2016??
Yes
I hope you reply.
I can’t seem to put the arm back into place. How do i put it back into place ? 😐
Just follow the steps exactly how i put it back in the video
Try putting it from the bottom make sure it line up properly the knock it into place
Dullah Goso hard you didn’t record that part. On min 5:35.
It’s not lining up. I’m fucked
Dullah Goso hard I was able to get it done. All I had to do was raise the low arm. Great video though man. Thanks!

Try search for rear control arm
Left of right i dont know which side you break
Dullah Goso hard it’s the one your pointing at, @ 1:11
@@trevorlonferrell9310 upper rear control arm
2006 optima was hard too get the disc out omfg was like seized
Do newer optimal have rear disc brakes?
Idky i got so happy when he hit the e brake with brake cleaner lmao
Didn't change the rear shoes? (E-brake)
No they were good so no need to
jessejaviangel if the rear shoes need to be changed you going to have to change them that's the situation I'm in now
KIA put that bolt in backwards.
why you wearin a watch working on cars bud?
I wear my watch to keep track of time and for fashion and to track my steps and health
