Apple is a luxury brand that pushes its ecosystem as a “lifestyle” via the brand loyalty of its customers, Google actively exploits their power to warp market conditions (by forcing standards that favour them via control of Chrome and Android and paying competitors to make Google their default search engine) and public perception (through using RUclips/Google to push all their other products, like Chrome and Android) in order to give themselves a near monopoly over web advertising (and a bunch of other products in the process). I don't know how people do not get this. Simply because two companies provide the same services/products, does not mean they are similar when it comes to the law when put in context. 1. Google made backroom deals to keep their Android flavour dominant over other AOSP types. Apple treats all their third party the same without making secret deals to lower costs or pay some of them to favour them over other platforms 2. Google forced third parties (Phone manufacturers) to not deal with fourth parties (Alternative stores/search engines/browsers) if they wanted to be able to get Google Apps. This is heavily frowned upon because it limits business even to people who are not doing business with you. 3. Apple puts their own OS on their own hardware, so the view of the law is that they are entitled some money for their risk taking and IP. Before you say that Google does too!.... Most of the Android phones sold are made by third parties, so the courts were not so happy that Google was the one restricting access to that hardware.

Microsoft Ignite is for the enterprise user, who RDP/SSH directly to a windows server/linux server and does their work on remote devices. Mac Mini have been used for the exact same purpose for over 10 years in a lot of consultant enterprises. Makes a lot of sense, if Microsoft expect, that the majority of developers in enterprise size corporations move to Azure, then there is really no need for a local device, if all is done remotely on a windows server workstation.
Android laptops sounds vastly more interesting than Chromebooks - at least for my use case. I could see myself picking one up if they aren't too complicated to de-google.
I did my own little experiments with a Quest 3, virtual monitors and compared to a real monitor I had in front of me. Pixel peeping I came to the conclusion that Quest 3 screens are like looking at a 1080p monitor, the bigger you make the screen, the resolution starts to get real ugly for Windows type use. But for gaming 1080p in a big screen is just fine in racing games that seem to me to benefit most from a big ass screen. I prefer my ultrawide monitor for most gaming by far. but you can see we are just perhaps one generation away from VR headsets being very good monitor replacements. Vision Pro users seem to be very happy with their resolution and virtual screens Can't wait for Quest 4 or some other maker to have a pop at a Quest alternative with OLED for around 1K-1.5K? yeah, akshually some kind of a dock for a phone with a big screen that turns the phone into a laptop or tablet might be fun. Honestly, the hardware they put in phones is totaly underutilized in 90% of cases.
Windows 365 allegedly supports 2 x 4K monitors. No way this will work, streaming such amount of pixels over the internet. Or am I missing something and this is not just a glorified RDP hardware?
It is a glorified RDP hardware. And 2 x 4K doesn't need THAT much. You can have good 1080p quality with 10 Mbit/s. 4K is 4 times the number of pixels of 1080p, so AT MOST it would need 40 MBit/s. I say at most, because video streming will be (of course) done using compression (probably AV1) and if the video is not very "busy" in the amount of small details, then the extra pixels won't add much when compressed. So 2x4K would be 80 Mbit/s. Let's round it to 100 Mbit/s and have them at 60 FPS. And no, doubling the framerate doesn't double the size, again, because of compression. Of course, if you have more, it will be better. But I wouldn't be surprised if it would actually be totally fine with 100 MBit/s. Because normal applications have a lot of spaces that are basic and simple. Like margins on a website or on a Word document, that gets compressed very easily. Or the background color of the Excel cells, those are easy to compress too, and also don't move much, so you might get it to look artifact-y only when you scroll, but look crystal clear when you're just typing stuff and 95% of the screen is static. The taskbar of the OS and the menu/top of the app(s) are also very static, so in reality it's like you have fewer number of pixels.
Google doesn't need to sell anything. It should be forced to not enable its apps and services by default by making you pick between different 1st and 3rd apps and services when you set up a new devices.
It's called bloatware. They got rid of bloatware after so long and now people want them to put bloatware back? Why? I have a better suggestion, people should buy a different device if they don't like Google...
honestly, makes sense. Chrome OS already just uses web browser versions of apps, so they should just use Android. Samsung already does with Dex. side note, but this probably means Android will finally have an official offline text editor if they port Text
it would be amazing if google also provides that android laptop OS as a desktop mode option on pixel phones! Probably wouldnt happen as it might cannibalize pixelbook sales, but one can hope :)
@iulioh this exists! It's called a lapdock. You connect it to your phone with a usb c cable and that makes it a laptop , limited by the desktop experience of your phone. Samsung users are especially lucky here..
@iulioh yes! The only thing holding me back is that my pixel phone doesn't have a good desktop experience, that's why I REALLY want google to just chromeOS-ify their desktop experience 😇
I long for the day when we could have a true all-in-one that we could carry in our pocket. Something like that Huawei trifold (but much lighter) with an OS that works both on mobile (like modern Android) and desktop (like Chrome OS). It's exciting that both the manufacturer and Google are finally starting to move in that direction.
Desktop friendly browsers on Android would actually be pretty great, by far the weakest point of Android x86 systems. Makes more sense to me just to fix the Android experience on desktop rather than run it in containers like Chrome OS and WayDroid. Chrome OS has also convenced more devs to build for x86 like they had during the early days of Android tablet support and I'm hoping that trend continues.
I REALLY like the sound of this idea on paper, but I wonder what that’ll mean for hardware. Will we see more 15-16 inch devices running android; possibly 2 in 1’s? I love the samsung tab ultra, so if more OEMs offer 15 inch detachable tablet/laptops, that would be freaking AWESOME. Hopefully it would be able to encourage devs to craft better apps for big screen android devices.
Will probably be better now, but HP tried it in 2014 with the Slatebook 14. I’ve never found any positive reviews for it as all reviewers recommended either getting a tablet or Chromebook instead.
The most probable cause is Google not releasing Pixel 2 next year because they will wait for the new Unified OS and release Pixel 3 (now Pixel 2) in 2027.
I use a Chromebook as my primary computer so if they go ahead with this, I think it could be interesting. I already use android apps for as alternatives to Linux and Chrome apps, but if they switched over to android altogether that would ease my concerns regarding the whole Chrome split from Google thing.
Microsoft putting more Windows integration into the Meta Quest feels like a bit of a cruel joke after how much fanfare they made about Microsoft VR and HoloLens last decade. Reminds me of those Android devices they farted out a couple of years ago and then immediately pretended didn’t exist.
So what's the difference between what Google is doing with the chrome books and laptops like the Lenovo X13s ThinkPad that runs windows on an android Snapdragon CPU?
The idea of Android laptops could bridge the gap between mobile and desktop, but it raises questions about Google's strategy. Will this unify their platforms or create new fragmentation challenges? The comparisons to Surface and MacBook are interesting, there's a lot at stake here.
Now that we're getting really powerful ARM chips, and with Google desktopifying Android, I really want to see real desktop app support natively in Android. I honestly think we could start seeing AAA game releases on Android (possibly even MacOS some day) with minimal drawbacks. I mean, the switch is 7 years old running a chipset from 8 years ago, but it can still play real games, even if it's lower resolution and framerate. But look at what the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 could do, and the new gen is even better
there go our hopes of desktop Linux getting widespread usage (yes, I know Android has the Linux kernel, but that doesn't matter if you can't run desktop Linux apps on it)

It's a bummer about the pixel tablet. I didn't know anyone and it was a flawed first generation product with the idea is really good. A tablet that is functional when you're not using it it's kind of perfect because tablets are one of those devices that sometimes seem like they're stuck in a drawer. I guess Amazon sort of does this as well. The problem is that they just didn't do a good enough job with the home smart nest version mode when it was docked.
I like your "Friday Checkout" a lot, but have to make this comment: your transition to narrating ads are becoming more and more outrageous. Instead of being fair and telling (vocally) that we're now about to hear a "sponsored message" (AKA an advertisement), you tie it with a piece of "news" that probably wouldn't have made it to the video had it been unrelated to what your sponsor does, and all you do is put a little piece of text at the corner of the screen saying it's a sponsored message. You know it's wrong.
A bit behind but they should. Apps are better supported/updated than browser versions. Developing the hardware would be trivial as it is simply reusing parts from a phone or tablet. However, price should be compelling e.g. just tiny bit above or the same as phone of the same internals with modem/mobile connectivity. Otherwise, a pricey Android laptop would be no different to Qualcomm's/microsoft laptop implementations but never took off.

I'd buy that tomorrow.
Just *IMAGINE:* developers porting fully featured Windows-on-ARM desktop apps to Android Desktop.
If Google had to sell Chrome, couldn't they just make a Brand New Web Browser based on Chromium, because it is fully Open Source? And call it anything but Chrome, like The "Google Browser"? 😮
Pixel book being compared to "Macbook Pro, Dell XPS, Microsoft surface" sounds great.... but "Samsung Galaxy Chromebook" eeeh?
I really liked how creative the Google Pixel tab was, RIP Google Tablet once again
Google must split in 10 while Apple doesn't have to do sh*t. I really don't understand this
One did backroom deals, the other treated everyone the same! Not really hard to understand.
@@kevikiruyou thought you were intelligent with this one, (ps you weren't) and it doesn't matter, anti-trust is anti-trust and both companies have plenty 😅
my chromebook* still doesn't have sound every time it's turned on for about half an hour when video/audio stops and only a restart fixes it, so i have to get creative and open an audio file that plays constantly. i was already planning to get a pc and run linux instead of getting another chromebook. it's such a shame because it actually runs pretty smoothly and efficiently but these bugs here and there that never get fixed are just not worth it, reporting using the built in tool is useless.
* mine is an older chromebook that no longer gets security updates, so i installed chromeos flex on it
yeah, akshually some kind of a dock for a phone with a big screen that turns the phone into a laptop or tablet might be fun. Honestly, the hardware they put in phones is totaly underutilized in 90% of cases.
1:40 Google flip-flopping around with their prpjects?
You must be joking :^)
Windows 365 allegedly supports 2 x 4K monitors. No way this will work, streaming such amount of pixels over the internet. Or am I missing something and this is not just a glorified RDP hardware?
I wouldn't be surprised if it's one display at 60 Hz or two at 30 ...
@adityashukla7849 no it's not bloatware to let people decide what they want to install and use as a default.
F Microsoft for not putting windows on arm on the phone.
I really hope this means Android desktop mode evolves into an actually usable thing. Continuum lives on!
2:38
I caught the reference lol
Haven't heard it in a while 😅
honestly, makes sense.
It would be cool to have a "shell" that is basically a keyboard, screen and battery for your phone
@@iuliohdex is a thing
@iulioh this exists! It's called a lapdock. You connect it to your phone with a usb c cable and that makes it a laptop , limited by the desktop experience of your phone. Samsung users are especially lucky here..
@@rosshalz oh wow, that's so cool they don't even cost THAT much and you can have 4k versions
@iulioh yes! The only thing holding me back is that my pixel phone doesn't have a good desktop experience, that's why I REALLY want google to just chromeOS-ify their desktop experience 😇
What happens with Google’s Fuchsia OS?
Copied the name from Salesforce - Agentforce

Pixelnook wasn't the last Pixel laptop. There was also a Pixelbook Go.
Google is the worst company to attempt this. They give up on everything.
The Echo Show 21 is not competing with the Apple 6" device. They have the Echo Show 5 for that; that and the Echo Show 8.
I hope there will be desktop mode in every Android phone, with apps that are made for big screens without touch input.
LOL, I hate android on my phone... I would hate it 1000 times more on a laptop.
Can't they make it work with arm chips?
I would prefer if you would actually say what an annual plan from your sponser costs
With arm chips becoming more popular and RISCv computing gaining traction it’s only a matter of time
The most probable cause is Google not releasing Pixel 2 next year because they will wait for the new Unified OS and release Pixel 3 (now Pixel 2) in 2027.
What a security nightmare
Time to ditch fuschia aswell on their smart screen products
How did we not get this before we got “Chrome Books”?
The idea of Android laptops could bridge the gap between mobile and desktop, but it raises questions about Google's strategy. Will this unify their platforms or create new fragmentation challenges? The comparisons to Surface and MacBook are interesting, there's a lot at stake here.
1:19 God, I can't believe it,
they'll probably make sure it's as bad as possible and doesn't work the way you expect it to.
For some reason Amazon shopping app no longer working on Android tablet for some reason
I always found it strange that Chromebooks ran on Linux, not on Android which Google literally owns.
I hope they are also make desktop mode for high end android phones just like Samsung dex.
Finally Google is taking some action! It's long overdue... Hopefully this will improve the Dex experience in a way we don't need multiple devices
I wonder if this has anything to do with Google being forced to remove Chrome from its monopoly.
there go our hopes of desktop Linux getting widespread usage
(yes, I know Android has the Linux kernel, but that doesn't matter if you can't run desktop Linux apps on it)
Will we finally get windows alternative
Any news on what processor the new pixelbook will have?
What was the Pixel Slate? Wasn't that Pixel Book 2? NO? I still have one floating around this house, somewhere. I totally forgot about. Even bought that over priced BRYDGE keyboard, which actually wasn't terrible, just pricey due to it being "DESIGNER" focused and the "Blessed by Google" keyboard.
An AndroidOS being developed could mean better/more available desktop mode for phones plugging into displays like with DEX
wait...what about the pixelbook go? and why were those renders about that while talking about the new pixelbook?
What's the point of starting from Android and then adding all those ChromeOS features to it, instead of just using ChromeOS?
I would love a Ubuntu plus android merge
i think the chrome break up is not a good idea google also contributes a lot to open source and if they sell chrome and android i know the other company will not hold those open source contributions
The problem is with google products ia there is no longevity for most of their products. They will release a laptop or two, and then decide to cancel the line meaning no updates for the laptop afeer that
....y'all do know. The more I hear about Rabbit, the more I feel they're just developing a user friendly interface for playwright.
A web based automation tool used primarily to create unit tests.
Google should be making their google beta playstore thingy have more games on them 😂
It's a bummer about the pixel tablet.
Wait don't they have the pixel book?
I like your "Friday Checkout" a lot, but have to make this comment: your transition to narrating ads are becoming more and more outrageous. Instead of being fair and telling (vocally) that we're now about to hear a "sponsored message" (AKA an advertisement), you tie it with a piece of "news" that probably wouldn't have made it to the video had it been unrelated to what your sponsor does, and all you do is put a little piece of text at the corner of the screen saying it's a sponsored message. You know it's wrong.
Pixel C, Pixel Slate and now Pixel Tablet. when they will learn?
A bit behind but they should. Apps are better supported/updated than browser versions. Developing the hardware would be trivial as it is simply reusing parts from a phone or tablet. However, price should be compelling e.g. just tiny bit above or the same as phone of the same internals with modem/mobile connectivity. Otherwise, a pricey Android laptop would be no different to Qualcomm's/microsoft laptop implementations but never took off.
What happened to Fushia OS?
wasn't dex discontinued
Welcome Google to 2016.
RemixOS based on Android was excellent and I used it for years when I didn’t have a smartphone.
I only worry about the mobile version of Google Sheets being so horrible to use.
