    I’m a figure bodybuilder. I’ve had the same verse grips pro for 11 years and am finally getting another pair. When bench pressing with them, simply reverse the gloves to the other side of your wrist, and now they are only wrist support. I’ve done dead lifts with these for YEARS. The older they get the better they are for dead lifts.

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  2 года назад +8

      I agree. They can definitely be used that way but if I'm going to wear wrist support, I'd rather just use wraps.

    • @RyanTreadaway

    I've had mine since 2014/2015, And I use them for a lot pushing and pulling exercise, not just deadlifting which they are a staple in my workout gear for that. That are just as effective today as they were 9-10 years ago. These things are durable AF and will stand the test of time.

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  7 месяцев назад +1

      Same. I got mine around the same. I don't like them for pushing exercises but use them for some pulling exercises. They've lasted forever. The only way these things are ever going to wear out is when the Velcro eventually wears out.

  • @jrippon
    @jrippon 2 года назад +10

    Great review. Thanks! I've had a Pro pair for two years now and very pleased with them. I'm also cursed with small wrists (7½") but, to me, the R/L fit is fine. They're not meant to be tight fitting, so you can quickly swivel them out of the way to load a bar, etc. The looser fit may feel a bit disconcerting at first if you're only used to traditional straps. I first used them on a 1RM deadlift and had visions of the straps sliding down onto my hands. As soon as the load came on they felt solid and you knew they weren't going to slip. Whenever someone tries them for the first time I reassure them on this point. Some pretty big dudes (≈8½" wrists) have used them and still had plenty of overlap on the Velcro although obviously they should opt for a bigger size if buying their own. The only other thing I would add is that wrapping the tongue around a 35mm bar is a little fiddly. So if you use them on a Smith machine you'll take a bit longer to get them in place.

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  2 года назад +1

      Great insight! I did consider that. Maybe I just prefer them tighter than they intended.

    Most of your annoyances with the product seem to be lack of “natural feel” or connection with the bar while lifting. I feel like this is something that re-develops over time, with use, as your brain relearns that connection (same with lifting gloves.) It would be similar to someone not used to wearing shoes suddenly wearing shoes and it feeling strange. I think it’s a great product. Wrist support and being able to focus on a muscle group more confidently because of not losing focus on making sure your grip strength stays adequate is a no-brainer to me. Great product. I will agree that having a simple set of wrist straps in your gym bag as well as these is a smart choice.

    I hate that I like these so much. They are expensive and the knockoffs are simply not as good. I am a bit of a skater brain and always wind up setting them down and forgetting them. They are too big to stuff in a pocket and I don’t carry enough around for a gym bag. I can’t tell you how many I’ve lost. I’m not sure why they are so hard to replicate because they have been around forever but the others are just simply not as good. So I am off to order my future lost pair.

    • @RyanTreadaway

      I would recommend just carrying a small basketball type shoe bag so you don't lose them. Get a Tile or other GPS tracker that will notify you if you go to far away from your bag. lol

      I agree. That's the way I look at items like this. It's an investment to me. That said, it still is a somewhat large upfront cost, especially in comparison with standard lifting straps.

    Fell into the trap of using these things along with straps years back. Totally not needed. Train properly and work your forearms if you want a stronger grip. Very few folks use em at the gym I go to. And that includes the power lifters. if you need a better grip, use chalk.

    • @gszxc
      @gszxc 16 дней назад

      or you could train forearms seperately? purpose of the straps are so that you can take your back muscles closer to failure before your forearms gives up.

    Does it provide wrist support?

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  4 года назад

      They do, but like I said, I would probably not use them for pressing. Wrist wraps will still be better because you can wrap above and below the joint to provide more stability. With a strap, you can only have it above the wrist.
