2013's Pacific Rim was great, Pacific Rim Uprising was not. So let's discuss what Guillermo Del Toro's original plans would've been, what could've worked in Uprising, and what they could do for a third installment.

Killing off Mako was the biggest insult
Every movie start by killing previous main character automatically killing my intention to watch the movie. We saw this with G.I Joe retaliation, this movie, terminator dark fate....

There isn't one, Pacific rim black was a spinoff not a direct sequel 😊
I could really see a Top Gun style Pacific Rim film working set just before the 5 year period when the war was going south for mankind.

I think a fun side plot could have been the importance of gypsy avenger being effectively the magnum opus of the jaeger program, with mako, Raleigh, max, and many many other pilots reviewing its blueprints and often tossing them back marked up and down with notes on its imperfections, mako's brother can lack the context for what is so important about it while Raleigh is shown simply refusing to pilot it both out of a lack of trust having seen to many other pilots killed by faulty equipment, because he's exhausted, and because he's busy running a foster home for fellow kaiju victims(I would have preferred Hunnam be in the sequel if scheduling conflicts weren't in the way but this provides a reasonable list of reasons not to involve him and only filming a quick scene if anything) this makes gypsy avenger less derivative and more like mako and Raleigh's child in effect, their Mona Lisa that is being placed in part in the hands of mako's brother

@@Kaiju-bm4ts I guess but if he really wanted to make that sequel they would’ve let him. So why didn’t they bring him back is my question? Could it be the studio didn’t like his script and direction he wanted to take the franchise like having the precursors be humans from the future and basically retconning what he set up in the first movie? And sounds like his ideas for the second movie are worse than what we got with uprising.
My issue with the second movie wasn’t the story but mainly the new kid characters outside of John Boyaga. Where’s Del Toros scrip sounds like it had a worse story but could’ve had better characters and brought Charlie Hunam back.
Sounds too much like a Ridley Scott pull with the alien franchise If you ask me.
Kajiu Jaeger hybrids as the main threat would been better.

I actually liked Uprising. Mega Kaiju is on my top 10 kaijus.
Rewatched the first one after like 8 years, there was so much potential with the IP especially after how well the first one did. So sad the second one was a flop :(
Pacific Rim 2013 is perfect already. No sequel is needed. If Del Toro wants to go back to this genre, he should do a trilogy of the live action of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Damn, just imagine that.

Edit: Uprising may have been bad, but I definitely think the ideas for Uprising were good if Del Toro was the one directing it we could have had an amazing film

This film underperformed the same way Godzilla king of the Monsters did. Both films had huge box office drops from they're first movies. But then they crossed over Godzilla with King Kong, and the rest is history. As for Pacific Rim, it got an animated series on Netflix, and then it was done.
Probably going to need 20 years to reboot that franchise.
Hear me out, introduce the monsterverse. It has been explored already and with the Easter eggs in the new empire, I think it is possible. You should make a video on it

The prequel could have showcased the other Jaeger pilots since the first movie told the audience their accomplishments only for most of them to die in the second half.
