The engineer you encountered at 43:00 being strapped with a bomb can be saved. However, saving it doesn't do anything. It simply floats around the area harmlessly.
The audio log about Sadie you encountered at 44:45 is one of 30 audio logs that tell a story about Sadie and Vergil (the engineer that is in control of the city's AI network). I don't remember the entire story but finding all 30 of them does slightly change the penultimate mission, Data Hive. If you remember the policeman near from your reaction video, when Rookie is going underground to find Dare, he encounters a police officer who dies. The audio logs are somehow tied to him and he has different dialogue, a different ending, and you're allowed into a secret room.
At 48:30; when you punch the guy in the back expecting an animation, you are referring to the assassinations that were added in Halo: Reach.
1:01:25 - When a battery powered weapon such as a Spartan Laser runs out of charge, it is impossible to replace the batteries. I'm sure there's a complicated lore reason as to why but I just like to imagine that nobody is trained to replace a couple of double A batteries.
1:14:46 - This is in reference to the audio logs I mentioned above, whether you kill the engineers or not isn't relevant.
1:15:45 - All the glowing symbols on the pillars that can also be seen throughout the rest of the game, allegedly, have some sort of undiscovered secret meaning. There were a couple of videos on the matter by youtube channel Rocket Sloth. But the final verdict (to my knowledge at least) is that none of the devs who know what they are about are willing to tell anybody. Discounting the possibility that they never meant anything and we were simply told that they do.

@@kaizammit 1:40:55 - Halo 3: ODST was criticized for its length and its price. On release it was highly disliked with people saying it should have been a DLC, not a full game. I disagree with this sentiment, but I understand it. Today, the hate is pretty much gone and people have accepted it as a Halo game to love like the rest.
1:42:02 - I made it to the end of the video. I can assure you, I wouldn't have gotten here if I didn't enjoy it.
Halo 3: ODST is one of my favorite Halo games narratively. I played it multiple times and each time felt like there was something new I had discovered in the game. Until the point I had played the game so much I knew almost everything there was to know about it. It's one of those games I wish I could delete my memory of so I could experience it again. The best I have at this point is watching other people experience it for their first time.

Regarding the engineer, back in the Xbox 360 days there was a reward for playing through the entire campaign without killing any engineers (or their “pods”, in the Kikowani Station level).
The reward was an achievement and a full ODST outfit for your avatar, which I believe was only unlockable through the achievement.
So saving the engineer definitely doesn’t do anything NOW, but saving them did have a small benefit back in the release days of old.

I’m glad you went through with it for this. You can sort of get away with not seeing gameplay for the other games, but the feel and atmosphere of ODST is such a departure from the mainline games and Reach that the experience really suffers without it.
This is what makes it my favorite Halo game, or at least very close with Reach. I love the atmosphere of Mombasa Streets and the detective style nature of the Rookie piecing everything together after the fact.

60 seconds in. Just thought I'd poke a comment here with my thoughts on a Filmmaker Let's Play. I think this is a great idea, both as video content, but also as a way to use your trained eye to see how film techniques are used in video games for yourself, at your own pace. Lighting and level design, environment, all of it, when done well, involves a lot of similarities - as well as differences - to film, helping to guide a player to their goals.
In less words, I think you'll be bringing much more unique commentary than your average "let's play" would.
Love the vibe and knowledge you bring with each video, Kai! Keep up the amazing work!

They originally wanted the mission sections with the Rookie to be raining at night, but it wasn't possible with the old engine from Halo 3. It's a shame because I think that rain sounds match perfectly with the OST. I believe there are some rain sounds simulated in some parts, but it's nowhere as heavy as they wanted.

His reaction at 3:33 to the first cinematic "THIS LOOKS SO GOOD!!" speaks so much with so little. Gaming as an art form really does need to be seen on your own setup for its full effect. Watching cutscenes in a compressed youtube video is one thing, but seeing the same visuals in their direct 3D graphics on your own monitor is a whole different experience. The fact that this man has already seen the cutscenes, but still had that genuine reaction says it all. If you are reading this as a viewer, go play some ODST after the video. You won't regret it.

Depends on room lighting and display quality. On an OLED TV and properly calibrated HDR settings, you can walk the streets with good visibility and no night vision, it's not washed out either. There's a lot of lighting in the streets to see most of the time.
Inside buildings and in dark areas with the lights out the night vision is needed as you can only barely make out obstacles and the street.

Yeah you might need to go through the brightness/gamma settings in the main menu, they're different from the ones you changed in the active game. Thints should be playable and visible without VISR in most street areas in my experience. With an OLED TV with the TV calibrated, the game in HDR with the brightness set correctly, im able to see well at night and the dark atmosphere is still there with shadows not being overbright or washed out.
With an OLED monitor you might also look into HDR capability and turning HDR on in Windows, it won't be the best compared to something like a LG G3 but helps a lot in visibility and contrast. Recording may be difficult with this though, it may be washed out if recording in SDR or RUclips may ruin the picture for non HDR viewers if uploaded in HDR.

    *keeps turning visor off*
    "man this games really dark"
yea thats the point of the visor
*turns visor back on then off*
"man why is this game so dark"
because you keep turning off your visor
"im gonna have to change the settings"
no just keep your visor on unless you dont need it!
"your not supposed to keep using night vision cause it ruins it, i get that"
no, no one told you this. the game itself is telling you to keep using it dude wtf are you saying lmfao
so i stopped watching at 42 minutes cause you keep purposely turning your visor off and because of it your missing literally 90% of the entire game and what it has to offer while the game is literally telling you over and over to keep using your visor bro come on man just play the game the way you should. why make the experience worse not only for yourself but your audience for no reason at all. you cant claim you didnt know, the game keeps telling you. the only way your going to actually experience the game the way they made it for you to enjoy is by restarting and actually using your visor. you ruined the entire experience on purpose dude

I want to wish you a Happy Easter. I have a few comments and questions.
1 I am loving all the Halo stuff you are doing. I hope I see you react to Halo 4 and 5 stuff as well.
Halo 3 and 4 I think had the best stories. 4 was a different kind of story. I felt it was very creepy and mysterious. it was Master Chief coming to "The Land of Oz" or better "The Emerald City in spirit" The Forerunners unlike the Covinant had near magic like tech... but everything we thought about them up to the point of Halo 3 made them look good, 4 showed they were the cause for lots of serious problems in the Galaxy and maybe the Universe.
I wont spend to much time on that. I feel like 343 was to harshly treated for plot elements made in 4 5 and 6. Just like what happened with "Star Wars Battlefront 2 EA" it appears Microsoft got involved with what 343 was doing, they demanded the games be made safer, so they had lots and lots and lots of plot elements and whole levels and enemies removed. Their is RUclips documentaries about it. You wouldn't believe the incredible stuff that was removed. Its also why the Halo 5 trailers didnt hardly reflect the final product. Its also why the plot points of 4 5 are resolved in other media or in one cut scene.
2 Ive always wanted a Halo game about the Star Fighters in space, it could play like "Star Wars X-Wing, Star Lancer, and so on" If you had to make a live action Trailer about a Halo Star Fighter game, how would you do it? In the lore, Sparatans interface into the vehicles they pilot, so they never neeed a full crew. Lets say in this story, the Spartan is doing this so much, interlinking with a "Long Sword Fighter/Interceptor" called the flying Fox, so often that he and or the crew of the ship he is defending feel he is losing whats left of his humanity and becoming an organic drone flying in space destroying Covianiant Star Fighters.
3 How would you do a Halo live action trailer? This is similar to the 2nd question BUT you pick the project, Halo 7, a Halo offshot game that could be about Spartans, Special Forces, Soldiers, heck maybe a Halo game that is from the Aliens perspective completely? Maybe you are making a live action trailer for a "canon" Halo / Master Chief movie that takes place before Halo 7 or maybe "Halo Wars 3 is the live action movie." The skies the limit.
Again thank you for all the stuff you have done with Halo.

    • @kaizammit
      @kaizammit  6 месяцев назад +1

I will be covering all the Halo games, unknown if I'll be playing them. I made this video because a lot of you asked for it. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
      2. If I had an unlimited budget, I would show a mixture of elements from the mental state of the "hero" and the dog fighting, I'm guessing there is dog fighting? Trailers ask questions which make the viewer think. So it would be something like, am I man being a machine? or a machine being a man? Use lots of cut to blacks too as that's what trailers are about. The master of black cutting.
      3. I would do it as a story where you play as the human (grunt human), be taken back by the beauty of the Halo universe and lore and fight side by side with different characters. Make the Spartans something special again so when you see one the little boy inside you blows up!! Use it to build the world up again but take risks in the story and gameplay so it feels different. Think Rogue One of the Star Wars universe, something different, something special and made for fans old and new.
I would at the end basically show that the hero is good enough to be a Spartan or has traits to be one. That type of thing, end with a flash of your character in his own Spartan armour.
Thank you so much for the support, it really means a lot!

I’ve really been enjoying your reviews on Halo since I discovered your channel, but ODST is absolutely the one I would have been encouraging you to play personally! I’m so thrilled you’ve decided to try this out and show us all what you think, I’ve got the kind of brain that once I play a game I never really forget anything about it, so I don’t get to be totally surprised or wowed even if it’s been years since I last played or watched content regarding it. It’s nice to see someone else play detective for the first time in ODST! Even though you’ve seen some of the cutscenes before, watching for little details and subtleties the creators added in is such a treat, I hope you have as much fun as I did when I noticed them!
I will say, this is a game I would recommend just… Exploring. Meandering. Take your time to look and inspect what’s around, familiarize yourself with the streets, note the graffiti, and most definitely hunt down all those Audio Logs! I think you’ll enjoy them immensely! The Superintendent is keen to guide you to each Audio Log, and uses the signs, sound, and lights, to try to point you in the right direction if you see those things going haywire, you’ll know there’s a log nearby, I don’t believe the Superintendent shows you all the details of what happened with the Great Schism, that’s more likely to be something the player has to figure out on their own, but it is involved in the logs and the Rookie’s safety for sure. Definitely make an effort to keep with the Superintendent’s guidance, and if you don’t see something right away, take a moment to recheck! I adore Sadie’s Story, I love her personality and the civilian perspective of all the crazy things that went down in New Mombasa during the Covenant Invasion. The cutscenes in the VISR really help in painting the picture though they aren’t totally necessary for imagining everything, buuuut I would advise parking your trusty Rookie in a safe little corner if you decide to watch to avoid any patrols!
I would happily watch every second even if it took a while! I really hope you continue to play ODST, if you haven’t already!

Yeah, the game is just that dark. Even on my regular HD monitor it's dark, some places are dark even with night vision.
The X button used to be a popular reload button, both for many years, and many years ago. It might be popular still, I don't know, but that would be why you've got it in your head that X should be reload.
If you didn't hear it from a slew of other comments yet, Halo ODST was originally meant to be an expansion to Halo 3. It's original name was Halo 3: Recon.
And yes, I would like more content like this. Finish up ODST and then move onto Reach, may as well go with release order.

Hey Kai! I'm a huge fan! thought I'd add this for your knowledge:
Halo 3 ODST has a deeper story at hand that dates before the game even released with some of the teasers for Halo 2 and models Halo CE cut (The engineers). But what you may like is the Sadies story. You found I believe 3 of the 30 audio logs. If you don't want to track down all 30, you can watch a video on it. But it is a reference to the novel "Dantes Inferno" in which, Vergil guides Dante through the 9 layers of hell itself. Sadie replaces Dante in this case. However, by collecting all 30 audio logs, you unlock a secret ending, which in my opinion truly rewards the player for following Sadies story the whole way. I hope this catches you before you record the next video so you can hear her story and see the secret ending.
Your video where you reacted to the gameplay did not show the secret ending. I dont want to spoil too much if you do want to hear the story, so I'll leave you with the Superintendents own words: Crime doesn't pay. Good citizens do their part!
You caught the monitors changing to take you on the safest route through the city, you sort of understood that Vergil keeps you informed on your situation if you heed his warnings carefully, but what I saw you didn't quite get was the fact that the Superintendent (Vergil) is the one guiding you through Hell. Just like Sadie is Dante, so too is the Rookie. Or Buck. Or Romeo. Or Dutch. Or Mickey.

The city VRGL will also help you with where to go & where collectables are. He'll raise barriers, change screens to arrows, make coins or tickets spew from machines, and make car alarms and police sirens go off to get your attention.

I don't know what controller layout you had but reload is normally X. Also, I don't know if you can help that Huragok, when you open fire it will fly away and still give the brutes overshields, but there is an achievement if you don't kill any Huragoks/Engineers while playing as the Rookie. Just keep your distance as the Brutes put proximity detonators on them

@@kaizammit Cool timing then. Maybe this would be tricky to jam in if its already recorded but there is videos called "SC2 legacy of the void recap" Its a few min long story recap video from SC1 up to the start of the Legacy of the Void. Also if u havent been suggested the "Starcraft 2 legacy of the void reclamation" that is happening just before the game start so if u havent watched that then do that becouse thats a big character arc for Artanis in a few min video and it actually ties in to the launch cinematic itself. That reclamation video is a must watch.

I liked that as your first LP. I admit, it is kinda a long video, so I did some skipping. But it's really great to leave it playing in the background on my PC while I work a bit. For that, you have a nice, soothing voice, easy to listen to. And you seem to have genuine fun while playing. Fun fact those poor sweet Engineers getting bombs implanted in em' are are called Huragok, and were made by the ancient Forerunners (The guys who made the Halo Rings). And are biomechanical organisms that arent technically alive because instead of reproducing they build each other, and are forced into slave labor by the Covenant.😢

Yeah I'm not sure why but the Master Chief Collection changes the original controls to the more newer "Modern" control system, by changing the layout of the controls, for all Halo games by default. The standard controls are much more streamlined, X is to reload, right bumper is to throw grenades and etc. Much more akin to Call of Duty as you were saying. This was how it was for Halo CE through Halo 3 ODST until Halo Reach changed the default scheme of controls. If the controls do feel weird, don't sweat it! It's because they are, and you can totally change the control scheme in the settings as well to the more streamlined layout. I don't think I've ever met anyone who actually enjoys playing with the control scheme vs the original.

Feel free to turn the gamma even higher on these darker parts and ignore the visual gamma test. You have to remember this was optimized to work well on CRT TVs with the XBOX 360, so there will be some tweaks to get the most out of the visuals on any modern monitor (and you wont be cheating by making the game look nicer). Glad you are playing through this one, I still listen to this soundtrack on rainy mornings.

I enjoyed your first video breaking down ODST. You're obviously a fan of the franchise and I think watching you play it first hand for the first time will be great. I get how you'd get bored watching game play from other people. The little game play that was in your original critique helped add some context and atmosphere but it'll be a treat seeing you witness that first hand in a more engaging way. This game just hits different than a lot of the other Bungie halo titles. I'm here for it.

You really should try playing Halo 2 Anniversary at some point. IMO it is the best looking Halo game to date with the anniversary graphics. There is an achievement and a small change to the cutscene where you find Vergil if you dont kill any engineers as the Rookie.
All those alien symbols apparently have a some meaning that has yet to be discerned by the community. The original bungie devs who worked on ODST made a small language with them, and have yet to tell the community what they mean, but they are saying something.

I haven’t watched a let’s play so attentively in quite a while. I don’t mind if there’s not much film commentary because I think the allure is watching you experience the game for the first time.
I think halo reach would be a great next game to play after odst. When it released I was quite lukewarm about it but after some years, it’s the one I remember most nostalgically.
