      @@mosthatedandroidtunernolim9800 because they hired him to race. They should provide him with the best equipment available to them. There's no reason 2 riders on the same team should be riding inferior equipment. Gibbs did not have a lack of funds. Once Davi got on the better stuff, he was a consistent podium guy.

      Skill + repetition +money + opportunity. I'm 46, and have come to learn there are TONS of us out there with the skills to be a great in many things, and many of us willing to put the hours in, but that only gets you half of the way there. It helped me reframe how I look at top level athletes. Now, Supercross more than any other you have to put your money where your mouth is, because you have to qualify every single weekend, so that helps a LOT keeping it honest.

  • @motofreak2772
    @motofreak2772 10 месяцев назад +10

    James put in an insane amount of work to customize that bike because of how much he didn't like it. It's only coincidence that DM liked it so much. I don't think this is a scenario where they were withholding better things but definitely they were not going to invest that same kind of work into DM. They had a superstar and were just trying to make him happy to win a championship.

    • @motofreak2772
      @motofreak2772 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@AAAskeet there was absolutely nothing standard James had on that Yamaha. Even the tank and shrouds were custom made. But it wasn’t this secret thing against DM. James literally hated the bike that’s all. Even to this day no one has done as much work to a bike than JGR and James did that year.
      They blew all the budget on James so I can imagine not much was left for DM development.

      @karldogg9481 that’s just an ignorant comment. He was dominant on the kawi 10+ wins in SX plus a perfect season in MX. Changed bikes and the results declined but still won a SX champ, then they flipped the motor and results got even worse. And it wasn’t a lack of trying as I said they tried everything! Yamaha did not see any success after James either, not until giving up the race program to star.
      Cooper Webb had similar experience too.

    It's super weird to me how it's almost not talked about that the bikes could be an advantage for one rider, and given them an edge. It happens in every single motorsport, but this one never talks about it?

    • @tylerjohnston6182

      when it comes to supercross, the only rules to seem to be in place are the frame must be sold in stores (which in turn created "factory" style bikes which have the same frame as the pros) and sound level. they cant go over a certain decibel count. I might be missing a few things but that what i've known/heard for years. I also believe its more like F1 where to just dump millions of dollars into R&D to make the fastest and best vehicle possible, there also isnt a "Shape" type or style manufacturers have to follow. i believe somebody could come up with a completely rengineered motorcycle and could race just like how we saw when jimmy weinert ran a paddle tire during an old oakland race, redesigned against the consistent trend gained a huge advantage over everyone and they banned it immediately. they dont ban anything unless it shows a huge advantage and even then it has to be exploited before its even thought about
