  • Davi Millsaps opens up on his career ending crash where he then became suicidal.
Davi Milsaps had a rollercoaster of a career. He was an amateur super star, a Supercross champion and ultimately suffered a career ending crash that left him with a brain injury that made him suicidal. Milsaps was the king of the early 2000's mini bike scene with his factory Suzuki deal and No Fear gear and inspired an entire generation with his parts in the Mini Warriors series.

I had the pleasure to spend some time with Davi at his house in Georgia back in 2012. One of the nicest and most hard working dudes I've met. Hard to watch him have to go through that, but also glad to see he is doing much better now. Miss watching him on a supercross track. Thanks for the interview Gypsy Tales.

I feel this is one of the best episodes with the dangers of this sport, we assume responsibility for, but the struggle from them and overcoming. Davey I think I can say we all LOVED watching you fight to be up front & this shows you are a true gladiator with not giving up on YOURSELF & helping others. BEAST!

Well done for talking about it, same thing happened to me in 2013. Fractured skull, vertebrae, arm, ribs and internal breeding. My relationship of 24 years and 12 years married didn’t survive. I’m through the other side now very grateful for every day now but it made me very awake and strong.
Still ride mx with mates today
Keep up the great work Jase love pod cast.

I fractured my skull when I was 10 years old. Had to relearn how to walk, read, write and how to do math. I didn't go to public school for 6 months that year. Even when I did I just wasn't there teachers were understanding and passed me anyway I suffered from suicidal thoughts until I was about 26 also ended up addicted to cocaine for about 8 years. Then I met my fiance, my dad passed away a couple years later when I was 29 and just came to understanding that it's all on me and that I'm lucky to be here and have people who love me regardless of my mistakes in the past. Now I'm happier than ever and pretty successful and went back to my original addiction motocross. Family and moto is all I'll ever need to feel complete. Life's to short. Dig deep, look yourself in the mirror and be the best version of yourself you can be everyday.

I feel for you Davi, hope you're doing better.
I had a brutal concussion at High Falls SX as a kid on a 65. Woke up in the middle of the track to a guy helping me back onto on my bike. I just remember my dad and brother constantly telling me "stay awake, stay awake", on the whole drive home. I never went to the doctor about it as a kid and now as an adult, I go to bed with a headache/migraine and wake up with one, 24/7. Been this way since I was 15, about to turn 30 in a couple of days. Been to countless neurologist, neurosurgeons, specalistis, you name it, over the years and finally just gave up and accepted that I'm stuck. Was put on painkillers for a few years until they became a scary dependency and addiction. I think about catching the bus a lot. But I could not bare to put my family through that. One of the few things oddly enough that helps me is being on the bike. The adrenaline kind of blocks out the pain temporarily. In a huge rut, I can't work and living with my parents. I feel like a huge nuisance and burden financially. Anyone else going through something similar, just know you're not alone and if you need someone to talk to, feel free to hit me up.

Start lifting weights. I had a head injury from high siding a ZX10R. Had migraines almost every day for a year and a half. The thing that helped more than anything was weightlifting. My theory is that something with the high fluid pressures helps to condition you and build resistance to migraines, considering fluid pressure is a factor. After a couple months of lifting every day i pretty much stopped getting them.

The brain is a crazy thing you don't want to injure!!! I hit my head on ice back in the 80s and I lost my vision for hours, and fortunately I regained the vision, but can't say I have been normal since. I have hit my head a few times later on as well. I know that I'm a socially awkward person and can't keep a permanent job or relationship, but can't say that thats what caused it. Would love to know whats happening, but
I am afraid of what it'd cost since healthcare is through the roof and I cant afford it. Just quit my job this week because I have been super frustrated there and this seems to be a thing with me. I don't know, but the brain I know is something not to mess with.

worst part of recovery to me. i got short term memory lost. its not the forgetting... its the explaining it to people. you gf getting mad you didnt take the trash out, your parents pissed you missed an important day. your boss fires you because he called to tell you something important and you dont have ANY clue what hes talking about, but then check your phone log and see the call but STILL not remember it at all. To a point, i was at a family gathering. Got to meet my nephew and first thing my mother does is go "did you remember his name!!!!" like its a fun thing for me....

It’s rough man, all you want is to get better and it doesn’t. Writing shit down sometimes helps me, a white board calendar to, as stupid as it sounds a journal is pretty dope to. Journaling to a doctor can help a bit if you find the right doctor, head aches suck. But they can inject you with some stuff in your back to block them.

Oof. Had multiple concussions in a row. Never really thought about the anger effects and depression. Two things I definitely have to fight in certain days. What I know is that I constantly have post concussion syndrome frequently. The shrooms are good i want to get back into them after my brain is fully developed at 25 though.

I had a serious crash and head injury on a motorcycle in 76. I woke up in the hospital the next day and still don't remember anything about that night. My friend told me that I was answering the doctor's questions with anger and swearing my ass off. I was 14 and never swore in front of my mom except that night. My mom never mentioned it.
