Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes I appreciate the thought behind constructing something purely practical and durable! I love the subdued colours and simplicity too. Good video. I am just beginning my MYOG journey and am learning as I go, have never taken a sewing class before, have learned what little I know from watching people like you on RUclips. My question is, is there a reason to sew each edge individually one at a time instead of lifting the foot and turning the corner?

Awesome work. I never considered notching the corners like that. Seems a lot easier to calculate than figuring out how much fabric it will take to round the corner.
What are you using to calculate the zipper and bottom panels based on the side panels? I tried adjusting to a different size and ended up with excess fabric and my notches didn’t line up. Any help is much appreciated. Love the pouch design
@@ezraschofield5122 thx that you like my Work. It is hard to explain only by words. I gonna make a Video in the future about that! The only thing that I can tell is that the cutting depth of the notches must be the same like your seam allowance. The rest is simple math. I will keep you posted😎🤜🤛
Such an awesome channel! I do upholstery for a living and would love to play with gear but I keep my machines set up to run 138 thread. My only critique is the starts and stops when sewing the sides on the front and back of the bag. Keep going all the way around the bag, no need to stop 😉

How do I calculate the lenght of the sides to fit the front/back panel? Your pattern the panels are 26x14 = 40 and the sides are 38. So 2cm difference. Does that 2cm stay the same when choosing a smaller size? Sorry if I'm making no sense, I am just very eager to learn. Thanks so much!!!
First bag I ever made, and g'damn did you make it easy! But that was following EXACTLY what you did. Any planned tutorials for us noobs where we could figure out how to dimension our own bags or have hints/tricks? IE: If I wanted a 20x4x10mm bag. I'm a little thrown off a bit on how to make the proper material cuts along with where to make the notches. I think once I figure that out then I'll be off the races!

I bought some Guterman upholstery thread from my local fabric store because they didn't carry the V-92 thread I was looking for and I was surprised at how strong it is. I tried to break the thread with my hands and it has so strong it cut into my skin before it would break.
I've seen some pouches made with seam binding on the inside. Is there a reason you choose to leave inside seams unbound? I'm still trying to understand why you cut one side of the seam and leave the the other uncut on corners. Thank you for a great video!
Thx that you love the Video. I left the binding away to keep it simple for the rookies. And I made the cuts to bend the material better alongside the 90° corners. Cheers🤘😎
A good measure is to hot seal/melt the edges either by cutting with a hot edge or running a flame along it. Otherwise you are going to have a fuzzy buddies in your zipper after a few years. Nice tutorial and editing!
Love your stuff! This is the most complex way l've ever seen...l don't know how many of my brain cells have died just watching! l've seen the same with a lining...you are not going to impress the girls without a lining!

Also, if one wanted to make this more water-proof, what method would you recommend to seal the seams for this fabric? Is it ok to just cut the Cordura, or do you need to use a hot knife (or lighter) to seal the cut edges and prevent fraying?
Hi, Gütermann 50 should bei ok even if I would prefer a thicker thread like Tera 40. But I often use Coats Duet 50, too. Making seams waterproof is the kings question always. If possible, I would always recommend getting a Industrial sewing machine. But old household machines mostly also can handle 1-2 layers of 500D or 1000D Cordura. Just try it out, then you gonna know.
nice work. and nice tutorial. thanks I dont use tape for the zipper, I sew a fist time at the place of the tape then I ford the fabric like you and sew a second line like you. may be your tape is less expensive than thread ?! :D
Thanks that u like my Work! That motivates me🤜🤛 the Wondertape is not cheap but safes me time and helps to work very clean. After removing it you only have one stitched line and that is what I prefer. But I think using your method or my method is just a question of Taste🤘😎 cheers, Steffen

May I ask. Just to check if I am thinking correct as a beginner sewer😅. If I want to make this one with a 35cm zipper. Do I than cut short the panels 3cm in length? And if so, do I also take 3cm off in whith? Plus than 1.5cm off at each marking of 7 and 31cm? So those as 5.5cm and 29.5 cm. 😊
Makes you think a little more when you see a pouch that is $5 and one thats 100. I also dont know how they could make them as cheap as they do on places like temu, and honestly the quality is pretty good for the price

Excellent stuff. Inspired me to make loads of stuff. What type of zipper did you use? I see pictures of open ended and closed ended zippers but im not sure which one you used.
I am using YKK 8RCF endless Zippers with open ends. I usually seal them off with my Gas Burner or I bias bind them when making molle Pouches. Thx that u like my work 🤘😎 cheers

I’m looking to buy a machine and was considering the Juki 8700H. Do you think this machine would suffice for this type of work even though it’s not a walking foot machine?
The Juki 8700 is a speed sewing machine. I would recommend a Walking Foot Machine because I just prefer the tripple transportation system for sewing Cordura! Cheers, Steffen
I make a number of different bags from 1000D Cordura, with seams that have up to three layers of fabric, a #10 coil zipper and two layers of 17333 webbing in them. I sew them on a Yamata 8500 straight stitch machine (similar to Juki 8700) with no problems. I also own a Juki 241 and Juki 1181n, but do 90% of my assembly work on the straight stitch machine. All of my machines were previously owned, so I bought them at good prices and got them in top shape on my own. That keeps costs down.

What is the formula you are using to calculate the bottom and zipper panels I made one this size and am trying to upsize the pattern, I calculated the edge as 800(260*2+140*2) but the 380* 2 is less Thanks

For anyone else wondering about this like i did, you need to take seam allowance into account for both side panels AND edge panels. So side panels are shortened 10mm top and bottom and 10mm left and right, so it's 240*2 + 120*2 = 720. Edge panels/zipper are also shortened 10mm at both ends for seam allowance where they are joined. So 360*2 = 720.
I use high quality needles and my machine can handle sewing Zippers very well. No broken Needle yet so far after sewing hundreds of zippers. And the three way Transport contributes to not breaking the needle....😎cheers

May I ask. Just to check if I am thinking correct as a beginner sewer😅. If I want to make this one with a 35cm zipper. Do I than cut short the panels 3cm in length?
And if so, do I also take 3cm off in whith? Plus than 1.5cm off at each marking of 7 and 31cm? So those as 5.5cm and 29.5 cm.

Yep, it is. Double sided adhesive tape that vanishes when you wash the Material. It is called wondertape/basting tape. Cheers🤘😎

I am using YKK 8RCF endless Zippers with open ends. I usually seal them off with my Gas Burner or I bias bind them when making molle Pouches. Thx that u like my work 🤘😎 cheers

Industrial machine! I sew through #10 moulded zippers like they don't exist.

I’m looking to buy a machine and was considering the Juki 8700H. Do you think this machine would suffice for this type of work even though it’s not a walking foot machine?
The Juki 8700 is a speed sewing machine. I would recommend a Walking Foot Machine because I just prefer the tripple transportation system for sewing Cordura! Cheers, Steffen
I make a number of different bags from 1000D Cordura, with seams that have up to three layers of fabric, a #10 coil zipper and two layers of 17333 webbing in them. I sew them on a Yamata 8500 straight stitch machine (similar to Juki 8700) with no problems. I also own a Juki 241 and Juki 1181n, but do 90% of my assembly work on the straight stitch machine. All of my machines were previously owned, so I bought them at good prices and got them in top shape on my own. That keeps costs down.

If you haven't allready then take a look inside our Group "The Walking Foot". But if available then I could totally recommend my TYPICAL GC6-7D 🤘😎.
The zipper length is 380, agreed but width 80mm? All my zippers are 40mm, am I missing something?

What is the formula you are using to calculate the bottom and zipper panels I made one this size and am trying to upsize the pattern, I calculated the edge as 800(260*2+140*2) but the 380* 2 is less

For anyone else wondering about this like i did, you need to take seam allowance into account for both side panels AND edge panels.
So side panels are shortened 10mm top and bottom and 10mm left and right, so it's 240*2 + 120*2 = 720.
Edge panels/zipper are also shortened 10mm at both ends for seam allowance where they are joined. So 360*2 = 720.

How did you not break your needle sewing directly across the zipper like that?
I use high quality needles and my machine can handle sewing Zippers very well. No broken Needle yet so far after sewing hundreds of zippers. And the three way Transport contributes to not breaking the needle....😎cheers

Is there a special way to cut the Cordura without it fraying?
Uncoated Cordura always frays. When it is PU coated then not. The best way to cur Cordura is a Rollcutter or Lasercutter🤘😎 cheers
