Thank you so much! I am not a massage therapist but by watching you and your explanation and what to feel for, I was able to alleviate pain for my husband, who's been suffering for 3 months now

Marinda Mercer Oh dang, that's very heartening to hear, thank you! Sometimes I feel too new (at "only" 9 years) to be teaching, but I know that we all have something to share. Have you ever considered making massage tutorials? I have no idea why it's just me and like 5 other people doing it on here, but I'd happily give some pointers and promote your video once you were done (and that goes for anyone else reading this who feels like sharing their process or specific techniques). Anyway, thanks again!

I always love working on rotator cuff muscles to clients. Not so many people get massage on them.
Fantastic warm up and genius way to get into subscapularis.
    Thank you for sharing.

Fully agree. I learnt the supine subscap treatment, which is very effective, but I find too invasive especially for new clients. This prone version works better for me.

I agree as a physio...It is a pity that physiotherapy schools focus too much in exercising and little focus on this kind of manual treatment and electrotherapy, in this case I mean Norway...I have lots of patients with pain, and they come to me after having been at other physio centers, because the majority og pysios put the patients in gymroom , machines or other exercising stufff... Yet it is important, but first of all it is important to relieve and let the muscles be ready for that kind of intervention :)

I recently had shoulder surgery and my scapula is so tight that it hampering my rang of motion. My physical therapist yanks on the medial border and pulls my scapula toward the ceiling. I wish they would get into the subscapularis the way you have showed here. I think it'd make a world of difference! I will definitely suggest this to them. I am also a massage therapist so thank you for this video so that I can help my clients better with their shoulder issues.

This is the best video I've seen so far with shoulder work! I love how you're actually using anatomical terms, and actually pointing to the muscles in the body. Tutorials are easier to follow when you say supraspinatus, rather than just point and say "right here".

Keep up the great work Ian! You are really helping a lot of you fellow therapist. I started watching you when I was a student. Now I look to you when I need ideas. Like today. Tomorrow I start bi weekly sessions on my 72 yr young mother who has had pain in her right shoulder for sometime now. I think these techniques could really help. Thank you. Peace.

Wow. You've taught me more in this one video about rotator cuff work than I've learned in one year of massage therapy school (taught by a veteran massotherapist)! Thank you for your time and dedication to teaching. I will certainly contribute via patreon because ...well because I will...what you give has much worth. And I agree, your humor is humorous 😊and we all learn more, absorb information better when we're smiling, I think. You have an intuitive way of seeing and treating the muscles, so cool. Happy New Year

Amazing Amazing, like you said in the beginning, the pain is in the front, been trying to heal myself for couple of weeks with no luck eventually when i reached the back area where all the real tension was, it made big difference to the front pain, thanks for the great knowledge share ideed

  • @alohaleslie9407

Aloha Ian! I really like when you do rotator cuff mobilizations that you don't (always) place the arm on the back. Many of my clients don't like that (including me when I receive a massage). It can be very uncomfortable, even painful, if one has trigger points or restricted movement because of tight muscles. Lots of good stuff can happen with just laying it next to body. Thanks so much. Another great tutorial. :)))

The way you access subscap is phenomenal & im going to use your method today on a woman coming in with frozen shoulder. I often do Myofascial work on the teres area with my palm, standing from the opposite side of the client & they get an amazing sense of relief, but this is great. I really think this will help a lot. I really love all your videos. You have a wonderful way of aprouching the body. I would like to see you in a video massaging a larger client. I also would like to see you massaging a hairy man. And lastley, I would like to see a video of you massaging a person that has those folds and wrinkles in the lower portion of the back. I also like to use long slow gliding strokes, but it is difficult to do so on people I mentioned above, it's much easier to do so on smaller women with no hair. I challenge you to video all three examples; Back massage on a Hairy man, Back massage on a person with sway-back/wrinkles, Back massage on a large person. Go for it!

Bruce Allred same here, I work at a physical therapy facility and they are like concrete or already injured. Just have to tell them to be patient on the treatment, cause although myofascial is slow, it's a long term fix. For the first session, I know they don't believe me, but when they come back they are very surprised at what relief they get with very little soreness or pain.
