+jdbabyv3 Yup, he is an interesting and noble chap, but guess what I did when I first got to the chapel on my first play through... .... Go ahead. Yup, you guessed it. I ACCIDENTALLY KILLED HIM, thinking he was a beast or something! Several days later after sending Arianna and the old grumpy lady to Iosefka's clinic instead of the ward, then learning that Iosefka was a hunter of hunters (shoulda known after the sinister laughing, right), and then watching some RUclips videos just to learn that this dweller was a good person, I was mortified!!! I told the forest beggar about the chapel, then noticed the family around him, attacked him when I realized what he'll do to the others and got my ass promptly handed to me in 5 seconds.
From what the beggar says, I can regconize the deep meaning: some players have bad habit: destroy any npcs they meet (even in the 1st playthrough), this will teach them a good lesson - since the beggar monster form is very strong and can be a nuisance even for an elite hunter. Ha, serve you right.
I think the chapel dweller could be pthemurian raised as a human. His long hands, decrepted appearence is exactly like a pthemurian, also he could be blind from over-exposure to sunlight, as pthemurians havent evolved to live outside the tombs. Also the whole being raised by humans thing, he not only knows how to speak english, but also he refrences the fact that he has lived through previous hunts, its just this is the worst one. The dweller and the pthemurians also have deep ties with the great ones, specifically Oedeon, as the dweller lives in the Odeon chapel and the pthemurians not only worship the great ones, not only is the head god of the great one's pantheon is hinted to be Oedeon, but the pthemurians live in the tomb of the great ones. So it seems obvious that the chapel dweller is a pthemurian.
I was also thinking this while watching this video. There's no other NPCs that look like him, his appearance otherwise is pretty inexplicable if he isn't a pthumerian
He's a servant of Odeon that wants you bring people to chapel in the hope you'll bring an eligible woman for Oedon to impregnate. Which you do if you bring Arriana to the Chapel.😊
@@felixcote1697 Just got to that part over the weekend. Saw him being a psycho cannibal..then he asks for a place to stay. So I guess the Skeptical Man wasn't affected by the presence of the nightmare or the Amygdala sitting literally right above him. "What's that? Insanity brought about by some alien gods? Heh, please! Suppose the next thing you'll be telling me is beasts've taken over Yharnam. Lousy offcomer."
I know its been a year, but him being skeptical is the sole reason he isn't affected, he can't accept the Eldritch truth that is revealed when you end the Mensis ritual by killing Rom, because he's too suspicious of it. The dude refuses to gain Insight..
@@Doc_Malior I think the narrow minded man is your subconscient screaming at you that all you see is a dream and you are just a sick man came to town for medical help and you are dying. remmeber the opening scene the dude said : what ever hapoened think of it as just a dream. i think the only true ending is when Garman kills you and you wake up which mean you have been cured and defeated the illness. however the 2 other ending are you falling into a coma ( taking gharman place ending) or dying ( becoming greaye one ending)
I can understand being confused by inexplicably sinister laughter (AKA general greeting in Carim) in the Souls games, but come on. The beggar is straight up eating people when you find him. How does that NOT raise a red flag!?
Well your character walks around injecting blood from random people into his thigh, taking his own blood and making it into bullets, eating random stuff he finds on the ground, killing everything he sees, lighting up magical lanterns, reading messages from skeletons, sending little girls to their death, stealing shit from random corpses and chests, etc. if that doesn’t raise a red flag then what does?
Funnily enough, I missed EVERY OTHER NPC on the first playthrough and only found the begger. Poor Chapel Dweller died without ever even having friends.
Do you think the beggar is responsible for destroying the village in the Forbidden Woods? Think about it. Throughout the game, the city of Yharnam is relatively intact, despite the beasts running around. Yet the village in the Forbidden Woods is completely ransacked. There are houses busted open, corpses with beast-blood pellets lying around, and the village seem pretty prepared to deal with him. They've made spring traps, an oil lake to set him on fire when hit with Molotov's. They've even deployed a mounted cannon, something that is not seen anywhere else in the game (Aside from Chalice Dungeons). Obviously they were hunting some pretty big prey. My guess is that the beggar was being experimented on in the village by the church. That would explain the White Church set found in the village and the church giants found in the cave (those guys were probably there to restrain him). Whatever happened to the beggar helped him keep his intelligence and he lashed out at everything in sight. The villagers tried to kill him with traps and firepower, but all ended up eaten. This could explain his contempt for the hunters as they are the ones who put him in this state. The White Church hunters, after all, are the ones who perform the experiments whereas the Black Church hunters hunt the beasts. Finally he says, "Was it you that put down that awful beast". This implies that there was some unique beast running about, but the player never saw it. This leads me to believe that he is that "awful beast" that is responsible for destroying the village. This is all just a theory though, so you don't have to accept it.
I have this headcanon that after the hunter becomes a Great One, they still remember the Dweller and kinda watch over him and visits the physical plane to "chat" with him.
@Derick Howard The greats ones are written exactly like normal characters, some are neutrals (Rom), some are undoubtebly evil (Amygdala, Moon presence) and some are actually good (Ebrietas, yourself depending on your headcanon for your character).
@@diz9606 I remember Rom wasn’t a true Great one by a student of Wilhelm that was taught by ebiretas and ascended to a great one and created the fake moon to try and save humanity
As a great one you designate the chapel dweller as your prophet. You visit him often and grant him dreams where he has no infirmities and is normal. Living a normal life, then when he wakes to his infirmities, he is comforted by the reverence and respect he earns as a prophet of a great one. That way he can experience the life he always deserved, and the life that you gave him. In death you either grant him a dream where he is a mighty warrior, saving people and fighting terrible monsters and being loved and adored, but most importantly to him. Useful. Or you grant him a dream where you visit the chapel as a human and speak with him, reliving past stories and experiences, enjoying each others company. Bonus: as an extra happy ending you have Maria there, forgiving her for her actions, commending her on her honor, and inviting her to simply sit and talk, not thinking about past mistakes. Ludwig in human form, with his sanity intact. Listening to his stories of being the first hunter and seeing him full of pride in his legacy that lead to you becoming a great one. Gerhmen but younger, and able to see and be near his Maria again. The doll. Given more purpose outside of being a doll for the hunters. Inspiring her to discover her own passions and desires. Father Gascoigne and his family, able to be a loving family man without the taint of bloodlust. (I haven't gotten much further than vicar Amelia so if i didn't mention an NPC, chances are i haven't met them yet)
I know people use the word "sad" a lot in relation to Souls games, especially Bloodborne, but does anyone else actually truly get upset? Like, the first time I told the little girl that her mom was dead, I felt torn up, as if I'd actually told a little girl that her mom is dead.
+Jimmy Burch lol if you tell her to go to the Chapel....she'll die halfway to the sewer pig....you can even see the bloodied scarf her in-game character wore…her sister also goes crazy once you kill Rom. Everyone is Gascoine's family is dead. :D
+UnBR0k3enAngel She'll die even if you give her the brooch, possibly to go find her mother as she did not believe she was dead when you gave her the brooch. The only time she (might) have lived is if you withheld information about the safe havens all together,.
He cant help it its a curse! Hes forced to eat doesent matter if he wants to or not. What if your mother turned into a werewolf every night and killed all your neighbours By your logic shes a bastard even tho she had no control
@@draw2death421 I wouldn't call her a bastard but I'd definitely want her to be put down before hurting others. There is a point where a human is too dangerous to be kept alive, like an armed person who doesn't intend to surrender.
@@draw2death421 one could argue that if killing innocent people is necessary for you to live, that person has a moral responsibility to makes sure that doesn’t happen, even if it means sacrificing themselves.
At first, I thought the Dweller was going to murder everyone and turn into some crazy monster with 40 arms or some shit. Glad to know, I helped the dude.
17 hours into the game, I was vibing next to the chapel dweller while being AFK, then my controller accidentally released a strong attack when I unknowingly moved my body slighty agaisnt it, killing him. I literally started to panic like hell and later on cried when my brother said that he's dead forever, my mood was destroyed for the whole entire day. However, next day I restarted the game just to have him back in my world, got a lot further than my first playthrough and am very happy :)
Playstation controllers really do be like that. Literally the first time I experienced accidental R2's was when I rented a PS4 to play Bloodborne for the first time and realized how easy it was for me to accidentally trigger R2. I don't ever recall this hapoening on my Xbox controller when I played the Dark Souls games on my laptop
Ricki R. There is a chance he will kill her. Small but a chance. I sent him there because I wanted him to die. But he was not there. Also the evil lady was not there. I heard some other stories about this happening to people
When I first saw him I was reminded of the undead merchants in Dark Souls 1, so my first thought wasn't "ah horrific monster", but "Ah, you must be the merchant for this area!"
on my first playthtrough in bb I had a guide bring me around and show me all the secrets (it was just a random guy I summoned) and then he showed me the beggar and I was like ok sure because I really did just like talking to the people in the chapel couple of progression hours later I come back and everyone is dead and the only fucker alive was him so I knew he did something so I gave him some hits next thing I know he turns into satan I was so fucking pissed
12:17 He gets so much bullshit here. "You hunters are the real killers!" WE GAVE YOU A SAFE PLACE TO STAY, AND YOU KILLED EVERYONE LIVING THERE. "You call me a beast? A beast?" BITCH YOU'RE TRYING TO KILL US WHAT ARE YOU THEN A FUCKING BIRD? "I didn't ask for this." ...
Actually all he say makes sense on some way. It is heavily implied that the monsters used to be human and hunters slay them to the point they loose their sanity for bloodlust. And he didn't ask to become a beast while hunters get blood transfusion in order to hunt.
This whole thing tore me apart when I let the beggar go to the chapel. Hearing the dwellers sorrow when you lose someone bc of that fucking beggar and soon losing everyone else made a combination of anger, sadness, depression, and grief inside of me.
I'm late to the party, but this is exactly why I'm here on this video. Thank you for allowing me to share the pain. I wanna say, of course i was suspicious, but when i attacked the beggar i unwittingly stopped just shy of him dying. Thinking it was therefore not the solution, i left to kill bosses. The last of my NPC's died a couple hours ago. My sister (I'm home for Christmas) looked it up and told me i needed to hit the beggar just a few more times to trigger his death. He paid for his sins, but too late. I'm still genuinely sad and depressed. Probably the most sad I've ever gotten from a game.
Hey Fungo, here's something I learned from Davecontrollive: if you use the Sit or Pray gesture while using the Monocular you can get a stationary view of people without your hunter in the way. You can't use it for moving shots, but you can still pan around. Hope this helps you with your other Lore videos. Keep up the good work.
I call the Chapel Dweller "Lenny." When I sent the Beggar to Oedon Chapel and discovered he slaughtered one of the people there, I vowed to take him down just so he wouldn't hurt Lenny.
El capitane nah man look closer its in the details, though i give you one thing, i think the team went out there way to really put people off sending them to true safety etc, still man guys a champ
My biggest regret in this game on my first playthrough was sending begger to the Oedon tomb because I didn't know he is a killer ( stupid me) and the next time I visited there Dweller was dead. I was so sad because he is one of the few nice people in this game. Immediately after that I went and killed the Begger without any mercy. Unlike every other fight in this game, this fight was personal...
Thing about the Narrow-minded Man is you have to reverse everything he says to get the truth about his advice. He tells you that Arianna is jealous of Adella when in reality Adella is jealous of Arianna. He tells you to be wary of the Dweller when he's the nicest character in the game besides the Young Yharnam Girl. Frankly, I sent the Suspicious Beggar to Iosefka's. Have no idea how the Imposter managed to trick and transform him but hey, at least he doesn't get to murder all of the innocents.
+FireTalon24 Did you ever fight the Imposter before the blood moon happens? She was a highly trained and skilled member of The Choir, with access to all their terrifying research and supplies. I'm guessing she immediately realized what the beggar was, and took proper steps to lure him into a false sense of security before *dealing* with him. I'm not surprised she won out over him.
I foolishly jumped in fright and killed the dweller before he finished his first sentence. So as a result sent everyone to Losefka's Clinic.... didn't end well for them :/ I'm not a great hero.
Oh my god..... His dialogue was so kind and sweet!! I've never heard such rewarding, soothing words in a fromsoftware game! It literally brought a tear to my eye ;_;
+turbotrup96 Bloodborne is the only souls game yet with german dub. Also, I don't know why people would think Freeza is a woman as well, he has a pretty manly voice in the german dub and I assume in english as well.
I think it's still correct that the opposite of everything is true, but in this case it's your expectation that needs to be reversed. He says the "blind man" and you'd assume the Dweller since he's likely the character that will come to mind first, when in reality it could be referring to the Beggar. All depends on if he gives the dialogue when the Beggar is sent to Oedon or not.
I ended up killing him because I didn't trust him, regardless of how bad I felt for him.And believe me, even before watching this, I felt pretty shitty about it but I thought "better safe then sorry" I even muttered an apology after I did it. And now, after seeing this video, I feel even worst about myself.
Damn man lmao I always think of it like this. I am the strongest in the game. If any bich wants to be hostile then by all means 😂 But this dude was so frail looking just like that stone hump character in DS3 i feel so bad for them lol
Fromsoft games have taught me that if you're a good person, you're destined to suffer for it and if you're a bad person you'll literally become a manifestation of the monster you are And if you're the player character you'll die a trillion times with a bittersweet ending. So basically, everyone is fucked and life is terrible
Either there's a key piece of lore we haven't figured out yet, or From didn't consider the implications of creating an NPC who could seemingly turn into a beast at will.
I think he's a blood-addled hunter. They do stay semi-sane but still attack and kill people, as well as then into beasts as will, all shown in the Gascoigne fight.
Oszy I always assumed Gasgoine’s and other hunters transformations were permanent though. Once they reach the threshold of the scourge they transform irreversibly
The Chapel Dweller is such a sweet and innocent person. He's the kind light in the world of Bloodborne. I accidentally killed Him during my first playthrough and I was distraught😭
when i found the forest beggar i hadn't put two an two together but, i still attacked him just cause and when he transformed i damn near shit myself then died :D
I did something similar I attacked him cause I knew he was evil, but when he transformed I was like oh shit and I ran off the building to kill myself lol.
I actually discovered the forest beggar as my first survivor and sent him to the chapel and noticed the dweller was dead. I hate myself for trusting that beggar. I’m so sad man. I’m so sad. Crying. Seriously.
I’ve always wanted to hear all this dialogue in order but didn’t want to sacrifice my file. Love that you put your commentary after the dialogue instead of being over it
This game, pretty much sums up how life is in real life, no matter how much u struggle to accomplish something, there will always be more failures than success. and in the very end, you will just die, vanish and life continues without your existence. Seems kinda tragic when i put it this way? That is what I see when i play games like Bloodborne / darksouls... PS: They are still my fav. games of all time ;)
Prince Jamal Minhas I know old comment but as much as the fact that this is very true about life it still is important to have fun in life while you still can despite you just dying in the very end.
The Dweller shows obvious signs of turning into a beast, like the extended arms and such. You were going to turn into a beast too, at the starting cutscene, but the Moon Presence intervened to burn out the beast blood in you. I think, in a way, Oeden did likewise for the Dweller. He was used as a tool to get you to bring people to the Chapel, so that Oeden could "bless" one with a child.
I am really hooked on bloodborne lore videos. I used to watch other videos that has a serious tone to it but your videos make it more fun to watch by adding humor. Thanks. Earned my like and sub
In my play through I had only found the old lady and the forrest dweller, I completely forgot that I sent the Forrest dweller over because I never knew he was sitting outside of Odeon Chapel. I thought the Chapel Dweller was a sick beast that ate the old lady, but then again I wasn’t too mad because she always kept calling me mean names. I never would’ve thought it was that forrest guy that I had completely forgot about...
I really like the sceptical guy he is rude but I think it's justified when you look at the world he lives in instead of thinking everything will get better he actually knows better
This actually gave me the idea for a new game plus challenge run. How it works is you give yourself 40 minutes away from oedon chapel. In those 40 minutes you play a normal hunter build of your choosing. If those 40 minutes run out without you returning to oedon chapel you MUST switch to a beast build (using beast claws and only beast related items) no aceptions, you can only heal after 3 kills minimum in beast form. - The timer is paused when entering the hunters dream nothing you do there will affect the timer. - chalice dungeons gives you 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the current floor, any longer and beast mode begins. Time in the dungeon does not transfer out of dungeon, once you leave it and return to the hunters dream the old timer is put back into action but not started for being in the dream pauses it. - talking to an NPC through a door adds five minutes to the timer - only returning to oedon chapel resets the timer. But It completely resets it, any bonus time (if any possible) is lost and the timer is returned to 40 minutes - only way to end beast mode is to kill 45 enemies, or kill one freindly NPC of your choosing. Bosses count as 5 enemies each. - die twice in beast mode and you must kill one freindly NPC. This NPC's death does not end beast mode - at any time you can choose to enter beast mode until you collect 10 kills (or one boss). If you collect 10 kills once you return to beast mode you only lose 3 minutes from the timers remaining time before you transformed (timer is paused in consented transformation). Fail to kill 10 enemies or die twice you will lose half your remaining time. This is a very rough idea but I want to see how it goes I will be testing the build out as soon as I can. If anyone wants to try it go right ahead. Just tell me how it went.
I haven't even played this game in my life and just read facts and the story out of curiosity because it was featured in a video about depressing videogames, but I love the Chapel Dweller. Everyone said that the Yharnam girl's story was the most depressing one, and it's certainly heartbreaking but the fact that the Dweller only wants to have friends, his sorrow whenever a survivor is killed and his words when he dies just brought me to tears. I love that little guy. He must be protected at all costs.
On my first playthrough, I don't know what I did to trigger him, but the Suspicious Beggar was already a beast, and I had no choice but to kill him. On NG+, I was bracing for a fight and found that dude instead. I was very confused.
stevenbro everything the skeptical man says is a lie. If you send him to Iosefka, he’ll go to the Oedon chapel or vice versa. In short, when he said beware of the blind man, he means the beggar
The moves the Begger uses in beast form are interesting, with sparks flying off of him, and moves that have a very large knockback, he seems to have storm based power. He is also the only character to be sane in beast form, control their beast form, and not actually be blind, yet cover his eyes. He isn't blind, since in beast form he has red eyes, so unless they grow back when he transforms, he is faking his blindness to seem like the rest of the people you meet.
From the looks of things it seems success has went to VaatiVidya head causing him to take years to upload a new video and when he does upload one he just puts shit together and misses half of the stuff in game. Fungo congrats on your success I'm glad there's someone out here like you who actually cares and isn't doing it for money like Vaati. Thank you for these lore videos I'm looking forward to more
Jack Thomas I love doing these videos. I never did lore videos on Dark Souls because I entered the games late and there is so much more to take in. Bloodborne is relatively simple and not too convoluted (and right up my alley). I don't like to speculate a whole lot, so explaining things to a great extent like the "Great Ones", Dreams, and Nightmare worlds will be a lot of that. I understand most people want to watch for the sake of something entertaining to watch, not so much expecting explanation of things that aren't explained in the games or interviews. I like to lay out the progression of events in a concise, easy-to-take-in way, and add a dash of my own knowledge and humor to the mix. Thanks for your comment!
I really wish there was more lore on the dark beast beggar. he honestly has some of the most interesting dialogue to me. he's the only perspective opinion that you get coming from a beast

I just now realised that the Amy clinging to the Chapel is probably the reason the people in it ended up fucked up.
I can understand being confused by inexplicably sinister laughter (AKA general greeting in Carim) in the Souls games, but come on. The beggar is straight up eating people when you find him. How does that NOT raise a red flag!?
so are you. you walk around eating babies, injecting period blood into your thigh, and crushing skulls in your hand.
I know right? And not just any kind of people, he was eating a child, for God's sake! Killed him immediatly there.
I knew what he was doing but I assumed it was just to survive because bloodborne is a fucked up game Dx this game makes you think damn...
K MT I was too busy rolling around in the barrels next to him and didn't even realize what he was doing and sent him to the chapel haha
Funnily enough, I missed EVERY OTHER NPC on the first playthrough and only found the begger.

Connor Barclay Good theory. :)
Connor Barclay makes sense especially the canons and traps part. why would people set up all those
I dont get it? They would set the traps for the beats perhaps?
Connor Barclay it probably doesn't matter in the long run, but if the 2 situations are similar enough that might just be the case
Connor Barclay It also makes sense that he is in the pool of poison. Because he is weak to poison (one poison knife is enough to poison him)
I have this headcanon that after the hunter becomes a Great One, they still remember the Dweller and kinda watch over him and visits the physical plane to "chat" with him.
Make his own little dream where you can just sit down with him whenever he wants and have some tea. God, now THAT sounds like heaven
This is all just so wholesome lol
+Rosenkreuz she leaves either way... No way to save her... I tried...
Darkened Angel Usually if you tell her nothing she'll wait in her house. The house will no longer have a light but the incense is still there.
Rosenkreuz Even after that happened, if you go kill the pig it drops the bow. The incense might still be left since the big sister returns.

This whole thing tore me apart when I let the beggar go to the chapel. Hearing the dwellers sorrow when you lose someone bc of that fucking beggar and soon losing everyone else made a combination of anger, sadness, depression, and grief inside of me.
Then when you fight the beggar and see what he turns into...
Coney the zombie525 Yeah that was totally fucked.
TheChriskilla100 Ikr, he's basically a weaker version of one of the most powerful chalice bosses.
I sent the beggar once to see what happens, and found the skeptical man dead and the Chapel Dweller crying.
I immediately killed the ###er after that.
He is the light in the darkness
Hey Fungo, here's something I learned from Davecontrollive: if you use the Sit or Pray gesture while using the Monocular you can get a stationary view of people without your hunter in the way. Unlike every other fight in this game, this fight was personal...
when the guy says beware the blind man he is in fact speaking about the beggar.
+Jomobram Strickland (Un3nding 0ne) not true.
No, he specifically mentions that the Dweller is a 'weasel' and questions why he wants so many people to come to Oedon Chapel in the first place.
+Kenni Cumberbatch Huh. he never had that dialogue for me.

The opposite of everyting the skeptic says is true.

That is true, well I just think he means the beggar but thats just me
+Iron freaking Tarkus
The Skeptic Man warns you of the "blind man" before you send the Beggar to Oedon Chapel, so he can not be warning you of him.
I ended up killing him because I didn't trust him, regardless of how bad I felt for him.And believe me, even before watching this, I felt pretty shitty about it but I thought "better safe then sorry" I even muttered an apology after I did it.

Fromsoft games have taught me that if you're a good person, you're destined to suffer for it and if you're a bad person you'll literally become a manifestation of the monster you are
And if you're the player character you'll die a trillion times with a bittersweet ending. So basically, everyone is fucked and life is terrible
Either there's a key piece of lore we haven't figured out yet, or From didn't consider the implications of creating an NPC who could seemingly turn into a beast at will.

- talking to an NPC through a door adds five minutes to the timer
- only returning to oedon chapel resets the timer. But It completely resets it, any bonus time (if any possible) is lost and the timer is returned to 40 minutes
- only way to end beast mode is to kill 45 enemies, or kill one freindly NPC of your choosing. Bosses count as 5 enemies each.
- die twice in beast mode and you must kill one freindly NPC. This NPC's death does not end beast mode
- at any time you can choose to enter beast mode until you collect 10 kills (or one boss).
I feel so guilty! I killed the chapel dweller! I'm such a horrible person.

I love that little guy. He must be protected at all costs.
On my first playthrough, I don't know what I did to trigger him, but the Suspicious Beggar was already a beast, and I had no choice but to kill him. On NG+, I was bracing for a fight and found that dude instead. I was very confused.

Still these are great videos

Whattttt I never knew that I platinum this game and I didn't know about that monster damn I need to go back and kill it
Aww, he's so sweet. I'm glad I decided not to kill him near the end.
I always found it odd there’s hostile church dwellers in the dungeons.
The Doll gets all the love, but we forget how valuable the goodness of the Dweller is. Best NPC
I loved the dweller and the first play through i let that monster in and he killed my buddy... I was genuinely sad and i teared up because he is my favorite video game NPC no contest...
EDITED IN 2022!
7 years, 7 years this video keeps popping up on my recommended videos, clicked on it, gonna watch it, give it a like, just so i don't keep seeing it popping up on my list....gosh darn it and it is a good video also.
