One of my favourite aspects about Djura is the fact he is one of the only NPCS's in a souls game, to recognize the player character is immortal. "Come as often as you like, and I will show you another death" If I knew my enemy would come back from the dead every time I killed him, I'd probably go mad with depression. But not Djura. He welcomes the challenge and dares you to come fight him again. What a badass :)
Connor Barclay Elana in dks2 does the same, she says something about making you rot forever, which basically means she knows you can't die but plans on killing you so much time that you become hollow
Killer97 Yeah but the Hunters don't openly challenge you like Djura. Eileen wants you to pass on a message and Gehrman wants you to stop fighting and be free. Djura just flat out says "Have another go, I can do this all night" :)
@@ScarletEnds ok if you want to think in a different way then think like this, now everyone is beast now they are the main leading population and the hunters are the different one. so that makes hunter the bad guy.
@@kumarshivam1234 im not pointing out what is good or bad im just looking it differenlty. moral is subjective base it can change anytime so you knw what im saying
Djura's character puts everything that happened in such a sad light. The citizens of Yharnam weren't pursuing power like Mensis - they were sick and desperate. These people were used as lab rats for the church.
The difference between a beast and a man, is that a man can be reasoned with. Anything that will attack you at the mere sight of you is a beast. The people you meet, who seek your aid are not beasts. You yourself are not a beast, because you can be convinced to help them. The line between man and beast may be blurred... but it is not invisible.
+Kazuma - kun perhaps, but is the human flesh warped by blood, mind ravaged by madness, still another soul to be released from agony? The beasts need to die this is certain but do not we hunters as well, the hunters nightmare seem to hint that in the end a hunter is but beast turned on its own kind that in the end all a hunter will be is beast in blood armed with weapons of men, and with the soul of kin. Monsters transcendent but monsters all the same.
The Director If that's true then every living thing, Hunter or beast, child or Great One, are all monsters. Bloodborne as a game isn't just stating it's own lore, it's suggesting an ideal. They're asking "where do you draw the line between man and monster", and testing you to see if you cross your own boundaries. You are the only person who can decide the difference.
I like you, and all to true, as for bloodbornes question well everyone's view on their answer is born of their perspective, and so each should be slightly different just as it should be.
I'd like to add, from the description of the burial blade (Gehrman's weapon), there are hunters who view the hunt as a "last goodbye" kind of thing. They understand and recognize the beasts as former humans, who are now reduced to nothing but animal instinct, their humanity gone, thirsty for blood. And therefore, they oblige to put them out of their misery, to keep sane people from harm as well, however they still show respect for their victims, much like an undertaker would do with the deceased. A blood-drunk hunter and a beast are not different, they are both out for blood. Eileen takes care of the former, and she does so with uttermost respect as well, going so far as to even giving her marks a sky burial (which is implied to be something sacred done in the foreign land where she is from) instead of nailing them to a cross and burning them, like yharnamites do. And also, i remark on the parallel between Djura and Maria. They both feel for the victims of the healing church, and remain behind, guarding their own share of land, protecting it from the curious that wish to explore it. But in the end, their self-imposed punishment is counterproductive. Maria gatekeeps the only path to the source of the nightmare, but her actions only further the suffering of many innocent hunters who had nothing to do with the fishing hamlet massacre, and had the misfortune of drinking too much tainted blood (ministered by the healing church themselves) all while oblivious of the great scheme of things. Simon himself agrees that it isn't fair. Djura maintains the peace in old yharnam, but we can see from exploring the place that there are some blindspots where weird things are going on, first and foremost is the beasts holding some sort of ritual in the church just behind him. They even have ritual blood ready on the altar. Not to mention, the huge blood-starved beast hanging from the ceiling and splattering the floor with blood. As many people had remarked, the beasts in old yharnam are starving. Yeah, they might be safe from the hunters above, but that doesn't mean they aren't suffering. Djura, much like Maria, is only furthering that suffering. Acts of good aren't always wise.
VaatiVidya Thank you for the awesome videos, you consistently make videos that, upon ending, leave me quiet and pensive for a while, akin to the end of a grand musical performance.
MetalDrummer141 I can answer that, his machine gun is properly named the Gatling Great Club it was originally designed to be a weapon one could carry/use. But upon it's reveal the outcry of OP OP from the community it was removed from that role and placed into what you have now. WHy do you think the cannon was hidden away?
The Darkness In addition, as much as I love automatic weapons, this is a game where guns are merely supplements to your blade/hammer/melee weapon. A machine gun would be a little odd to use for Bloodborne, I think, though I'd love to see a From Software Game with a main focus on firearms and swords/melee being the supplement for once. And now I'll brace for the hate.
The powder keggers were different in that they focused on thee fire power aspects of beast hunting, they made a hand cannon, a spear with blunderbuss on it, and a stake, driven by a controlled explosion. Their motto," If a weapon ain't got kick, it ain't worth it." A Gatling gun isn't exactly the automatic weapon you're thinking of, as they were originally stationary, hand cranked installations. WHile this one is mobile, you wouldn't be able to move while firing the thing, it's melee is incredibly slow in comparison to the rest. It was designed to fight massive beasts. While I can appreciate the fast paced combat, when I first saw this thing in it's intended form, I thought, well, I am going to at least blast the hell out of a beasty and then smash it's friggin head!
+dannylamb456 It does seem weird that you use the firearm to parry. The main reason swords were still used alongside firearms by officers was because it was a great defensive weapon if opponents did get into close quarters.
FROM software is always alluding to the old world. Our history is a complete fabrication even moreso than how the present is lied about. People think Atlantis or the ancient ruins are in the ocean. They are all around us just barely hidden, melted and most of them are hardly ancient.
Old yharnam was really an interesting piece of the game. The souls series has always been so good with making you get involved into the game and not just daydreaming through the killing spree you're doing. When you kill a monster, you KILL something, you do not eliminate a danger :)
When something attacks me on sight, forcing me to defend myself and then attacking normal people....well, i won't stand still and watch others people die.
@@TrenElZombie no, you don't become a monster, you are simply protecting people from beasts, they are not sane and will attack at first sight, that's why they need to be killed.
I would add that the "prepare to cry" for Djura is even more sad. Djura recognizes the player is immortal: "Come as often as you like, and I will show you another death". He stands, steadfast, as protector of those who had been forsaken and left to die. He knows the beasts do not wish to hurt central Yharnam, and so he gives his life to protect them. And this is the most tragic part of his tale: Knowing that the player will not rest, Djura faces a ceaseless enemy, doing his best to protect the wretches below. Finally, you are able to overcome Djura, and he loses his life to an enemy he can never hope to stop permanently while attempting to protect those who have lost everything. This is only made worse if you talk to Djura first and agree to save the beasts. He may feel that finally he has an ally, only to be betrayed in the end.
I didn’t know you could make him an ally. But he cost me so many echoes one time. Yet I still couldn’t kill him. He gave me a gesture and the badge. I had nothing to gain from killing him. So I didn’t. On my next playthrough though he will feel my wrath.
The funny thing is we don’t have to kill djura, we all do it because it makes the area easier but we could go through the whole thing without killing him. That choice was ours
I really like djura's character. He makes you question your actions fairly early on, almost like hes designed to make you question the games settings, logic, and 'truths' that are being given to you
If you think about it, in a lot of ways, the beasts seem to be trying to civilize themselves. They have a church, their raggedy clothes are roughly tailored to their new bodies, and the fact that they attack you seems more because they know what you'll do if you're allowed to go any further (slaughter and maim many). The worst thing they seem to do is perform rituals on Blood-Starved Beasts, which is nowhere near as bad as what the Healing Church has been doing.
I feel like you’re a bit mistaken. The beasts with clothing and weapons are simply beasts that have yet to fully turn. They have partially transformed into feral beasts, and some still retain a bit of their minds, but they are still turning into feral monsters, not the other way around. Lingering traces of humanity are not a sign of the beasts trying to become civilized, but the fading echoes of who they once were.
Powder cake hunters. "... one of these factions were the powder cake hunters, bearers of the powder cake batch. "...The late powder cake hunters had a motto" If a weapon aint got cake it just aint worth it". "...and who better for the job than the powder cake hunters" Beware the frosting cannon. fear the candle rifle, and most of all beware the milky chocolate cocktails.
Djura's dialogue is confirmed now. Well, least I see it as confirmed. The reason why I believe so is because in the old hunter's DLC, maybe this was fucking obvious, idk, but some beasts there don't want to fight you, they're actually fucking terrified of you. I think this is when they first started transforming, kinda like a zombie apocalypse, but a beast one and you're aware. Now imagine you're a newly transformed beast, have no idea what's going on, and suddenly, the people who were suppose to protect you, aka the church, sends hunters to kill you. Civilians will likely be terrified at first, but after a while of straight up murder, the towns folk, who are beasts mostly now, will fucking fight back. And I think when the curse started spreading, it only got enhanced by emotion; hate and sorrow. Think about it! Every beast boss has lost their minds to anger/hate/sorrow and you can tell by how they act. Actually, maybe I'm tin foiling too hard here because I wouldn't know how to talk about Gascogne. Maybe he was rekt by guilt? And his mind just slowly went into madness and when you fight him, diasjdioasjiodjias. I'm just theory crafting at this point, but my original argument still stands that: Djura speaks the truth; hunters are the beasts.
The beasts in the hunter's nightmare act like that because the hunters there are stuck on a torturous nightmare version of hunting beasts. They aren't "real" versions of the beasts. However, the point behind it is still valid, that which hunts beasts is always a bigger beast.
Throttle Kitty Really? Could you source that for me, I really want to confirm it before I see it as that. It would make sense though, hence the name of the DLC, "Hunter's Nightmare". But I do agree with your last point.
Ghost1170 Well, confirming anything in bloodborne is hard to be honest. The nightmare is described as "the nightmare of blood drunk hunters" - and since the beasts that act this way only exist in this place, and I think simon's dialogue hints at it as well.
Otto Carvalho Riesembrg "Civilians will likely be terrified at first, but after a while of straight up murder, the towns folk, who are beasts mostly now, will fucking fight back. And I think when the curse started spreading, it only got enhanced by emotion; hate and sorrow. " Civilians being the monsters that were hunted. You missed what I said there buddy.
If paleblood really is the red moon as some hints suggest, then maybe the Moon Presence is not just behind the Hunters Dream but the hunt itself, maybe it's even responsible for the beastplague itself, it is the taint of the blood. If that is true the point of the hunt is to make a hunter powerful enough to kill a great one, like in DS to make an undead strong enough to kindle the flame.
***** But the dream exists for the hunt to be successful through a skillful and powerful hunter. Therefore the dream and the hunt are the same thing, so of course, the moon presence is behind both. About the second sentence of yours, it is believed that the old gods are in war. The child we hear is nowhere to be found in the nightmare, we hear only its cries. Mergo is also not matterialised. Oedon is the formless god. in conclusion, the moon presence orchistrated this to "overthrow" another great one's grasp to "our world". Each god has a surrogate, we are moon's presence surrogate "beating" the surrogate of Oedon. But with the true ending we also ascend. Anyway, it's too long to type and I cba atm.
***** Yeah the only reason that i wrote the comment was to clarify that the dream and the hunt never seemed to be opposed in any way. That's what I understood from your comment that's why... also i never disagreed with you i just elaborated a little bit
420PraiseIt Must have misread you then, though I think the hunt started before Gehrman used the umbilical cord and made contact with the Moon Presence which created the Hunters Dream.
***** Yeah. That's true. I've written it in many videos of both vaaty's and dave's. Having this as a standpoint wrecks the theory that moon presence is behind the blood. All gods are behind the blood, that's why they are rivaling to influence humanity because by using their blood they think that they have a claim in us.
Just a thought. Couldn't it be that the powder kegs were declared heretics AFTER they were sent to Old Yharnam? I mean, there is no mention of when exactly they are established as heretics and even in the Old Hunters DLC, the old workshop badge that is referred to as a predecessor to the powder kegs, refers to them as heretics of sorts. In my opinion, the powder kegs were once respected, if a bit odd people of the workshop, working together with the other hunters efficiently. But then the Old Yharnam Beast Incident happened and somebody was needed to be sent down to combat the hordes of wolfmen and women. Since the beasts could be best combated with fire and the powder kegs used the most destructive and fire based weapons, they were sent down to the by then lit ablaze old city to clear it of beasts. But, as we see, this just proved as too much of a task and they never returned. But, as we know, the one hunter Djura remained. I imagine maybe a search party was sent down into the ruined city to look for a still living powder keg and, well, they found him. Perched atop a tower, aiming a minigun at them and telling them to flock off or else. I imagine after Djura chased them back out of the city, they reported to the church, which declared the powder kegs, or, what remained of them, to be heretics, betrayers and most likely enemies of the church as well. At least this is my opinion of the things.
late reply, but: My theory is that Djura and some of the powder kegs had a crisis of faith while purging old yahrnam, and decided to switch sides and try to protect the beasts. Remember, there's another hunter below Djura's tower who fights you alongside the beasts. The surviving powder kegs would then be excommunicated, since "beast hunting is holy work," and protecting beasts would be heresy.
And, from what we can tell, Djura was the only Hunter of the Dream, and even he stopped dreaming by the point you come along. It must be horrible to see your comrades fall one by one in a neverending siege while you just keep reviving after every mistake. I assume he only took the machine gun when there was no one left who wished to stay alive of the Powder Kegs. Also, now you know that some good people died in the protecion of the beasts you've been slaying there. Because, you know, Souls games.
The fact that Gehrman wears the charred set is why I believe he was part of the purge that took place in old Yharnam. I believe the powder kegs methods and ways were the reason why they were easier to target and blame for what happened, but I think EVERY hunter was part of the Old Yharnam massacre. Think about it, a whole town transformed and overrun by beasts; it should have taken more than a couple of cannons to stop
He actually does in his boss battle. You may argue that it's just for cosmetic purposes, but this is Miyazaki, he wouldn't make his character wear something just because it looks pretty, even if it's only for a boss battle
My thing with is that I understand his plight, but I still see him as a naive person because he doesn't see that these beasts will attack anything that's not a fellow beast. If I see a person being attacked by the beasts, I won't hesitate to kill those beasts in order to save that person. I believe that Djura, on the other hand, would try to save those people without killing the beasts, but I don't he will succeed.
Nah, Djura is right, old Yharnam has already burned to cinders and have no humans left. There is no point in killing beast since there were once human and have no one to attack and kill, hunters coming to kill have lost the purpose of the hunt as they are hurting beast with no prey. Don't kill a shark if you don't go into it's waters
There are no humans in Old Yharnam (besides Djura obviously) and you don't ever have to actually go there to beat the game. From a story standpoint, you really are just hunting for the sake of hunting if you go there.
Ryan J True, but it is my job. And has there been accounts where the beast-turn can be reversed? If not, then killing these poor saps can be seen as a form of mercy, like with how people want to be killed before becoming a zombie.
3DSDF Perhaps, but I don't think the beasts would see it as mercy. Even if they only have base instincts left. We don't even know if the beasts are suffering. At least we don't know if they're all suffering. A large group of beasts in Old Yharnam even appeared to be holding some type of organized gathering. That would suggest some level of thought beyond that of a mindless animal. It makes sense they attack you on sight, even if they haven't lost their minds yet. Hunters have been hunting and killing beats for years without mercy. They'll assume any hunter they see is going to kill them.
Ryan J True, but I again compare it with zombies where we don't know if they are suffering but we still kill them without hesitation. Though you may be right about the gathering. The cannibalistic beggar was able to retain some of his mindset after becoming a beats, and Ludwig did the same once he saw the Moonlight Blade.
Djura was my favorite character in Bloodborne. When I first heard him in Old Yharnam, i thought, "This guy is going to be the guy that really makes us think about what we are doing here."
Ze-TopHat-Gamer That's not what Djura thinks, he realizes they're not normal. His point is that all men eventually turn to beasts when treated with blood, and you too are mindlessly killing as a beast does. His point is, you're the same thing as a beast.
Ze-TopHat-Gamer Djura seems to be more of the opinion that the inhabitants of Old Yharnum have suffered enough by the hands of the Workshop and the Church and deserve solace as they're no harm to anyone outside the ruins of the burned districts. He doesn't seem convinced that there could be a cure so much as he's had enough of watching people brutally murdered and tortured by blood-crazed and sadistic hunters who have no reason to enter the old districts in the first place.
Zachary Weadock That's a nightmare though, one in which Hunters are cursed to kill over and over again. The beast inside aren't real, just like everyone you encounter save for Brador, Simon, Maria (Strong maybe on her though), and the Orphan.
Djura is easily one of my favorite NPCs. He seemed to be the most human of the old hunters. It isn't often that we find characters with a kind nature, in the Soulsborne series.
Djura stopped me progressing for a while. Not because he was hard to get past, but because after listening to him and understanding what he was saying, I became conflicted about what I thought. I still thought that the Beasts were my enemies, that they would mindlessly kill, but I also realized that I was doing the same thing. And I just didn't feel like killing them anymore. It was really strange.
Djura is a great character. He is there to deliver that "Heroic BSoD (Blue Screen of Death)" to you which means that he makes you get immersed af in the game, stop you right in your tracks to question your actions, then come to a conclusion.
Thank you Djura, for a kind soul that is unseen in this city as of late. However, I'm making a beasthood build and your armor provides the best beasthood, so…
AlphaGamer Wv Your comment is a little late. He stopped uploading quite a while ago. RUclips was causing him a lot of stress, and he decided to step away from it all for a while. Maybe he’ll come back. Maybe he won’t. There’s no telling at this point.
Chris Schoenthaler yeah I know he stopped uploading I just wanted to show that some people still watch and enjoy his videos, still support him and hope for his return, if he can't return or simply doesn't want to I hope that he's successful with whatever he decides to persue and for his good health
@@nolang.3094 Im pretty sure that the reason for him to stay at Old Yarnahm is because its not people he's protecting but rather "his people". I've had the impression that he's from Old Yarnahn himself, and the Beasts and Hunters are neighbours and friends, thus the reason he cant just abandon them.
Djuras' dialogue at the end of the video always makes me feel some type of way. Idk, it feels depressing. But I love it. I always come back to this video from time to tims
I appreciate you drawing attention to the conflict between hunters and beasts. It's easy to forget that the beasts are people. I also think it's difficult to ethically determine how the humans could justly handle the beast outbreak.
After killing Djura and subsequently looking him up on my first runthrough, I made a new game and started over. Not really delving into lore theories or anything, Eileen and Djura were two of my favorite characters right away. They're both hunters and they both have totally different perspectives on the hunt. I felt not so much that Djura had his change of heart after he saw the hunters went too far, but that he came to the realization that the beasts were people. It seems obvious since we see some transformations but I feel like as a solider and not in on the ground floor like geherman he might have just been told the beasts we're monsters and that's that. coming to the realization that they're human and defending them and the city is amazing and he might be the most noble character we encounter in a sense. One of my other favorites is Micolash [probably because I'd just been digging into a bunch of lovecraft] but he confused the hell out of me as far as the story and dream are concerned. Had me thinking at a point that the "hunter dream" was the only reality even. As far as I can tell his "dream self" is somehow who we are fighting, because of his dialogue panic about waking up and forgetting, which is a lovecraftian theme too [so is letting your physical body die and letting your dream self live on, and traversing from the dream realm to the waking world...also a dream being "possessing" a mortal and speaking through them ie patches]. But being the host of the nightmare maybe we could have tapped into his "hunter dream" as it were, which might explain the deformed birds and whatnot. i really am not sure! i'm sure there's lore theory on this guy, i'm curious what your take is!
Just went through your "Prepare to Cry" serie. Really good job: music, images, even your voice is nice to litsten to! You've gathered a whole lot of datas together. Thanks to you, I can get even more excited by this Master Piece that is "Bloodborne"!
VaatiVidya So Djura said, "...the next time you dream, give some thoughts...to the hunt." He finished the sentence. Is this also the result of invading someone's world to get the full dialogue?
Now after The Old Hunters, Djura's beliefs kind of makes sense to me. He is an old (powder keg) hunter. He most likely witnessed his friends get drunk with blood and pulled into the Hunter's Nightmare. While he protects beasts, I belive he also protects Hunters from themselves and from their Nightmare, since Old Yharnam is overrun with beasts it is easy to get drunk. ...damn that's fucking deep!
This is my favorite of your bloodborne videos Vaati, not only because it covers one of the coolest bits of lore imo, but also because you've edited it together so beautifully. The pacing, your monologue perfectly blended with relevant bits of dialogue and scenery. Bravo my good scholar.
Always exciting to see a new story video. Cainhurst was most definitely the best area in the game visually and fight wise. The fight against Martyr Logarius was phenomenal. Perfect setting, music and overall fun despite how many times he killed me.
I couldn't pay attention to the information because I could only think about how much the piano in the beginning of this video sounds like the Terminator theme.
Djura is one reason I first chose the vilebloods to side with. Then following Eileen showed me the truth and that's when I chose to become a hoonter of hoonters! Love this game and it's lore.
Thought provoking as always, these videos always add a tonne more depth to the games that I didn't even realise they had until you talk about it. Can't wait to see the next one.
I personally never felt the Ashen Blood ailment to be an intentional infliction caused by the church; just that it was a side effect from the use of blood healing. William was right: Fear the Old Blood (Too bad I killed him to get that rune that I never used)
feel like there is a lot more you could go on and talk to about this one. You didn't really go over much of his dialogue from when you come in from behind if you kill Paarl first. He is kind to you as long as you do not attack the beasts. Also, there must be something relating to the other powder keg member that resides at the base of the clock tower and how the beasts don't attack him. I'm not really the best at researching and stuff, that's why I come to these videos, but this one just seemed rushed to me. So much more about Djura could have been said, especially if we are comparing this video to your DS1 or DS2 prepare to cries.
I've always thought your videos were really good quality, but this one especially. The music in the background (especially near the beginning) was perfect and made the video so much more engaging. Keep up the great work :)
So what if the hunters dream is just a mad illusion brought upon by the Old ones an you're just in the streets actually killing people until you eventually become a beast
Larissa A Judging by Vaati's comment if you scroll up from your comment to right under the video, he's gonna do Alfred, Cainhurst, and (subsequently) The Vilebloods in the next video. :)
DrTheKay I'm glad this "controversy" eventually died down into the realm of sanity, but I still get irked reading old comments from the people who were so anti-vaati during it.
I don't hate him, but I don't believe him to be a good person. At heart, maybe. But even if they once were, a beast is not a man, not anymore. They are not innocent, they are not harmless. By protecting them, he is endangering what little is left of humanity.
The best thing about this character aside from his personality is his amazing voice, he shares the same voice actor as King Vendrick from Dark Souls 2. :P
@@duroorud527 he only talks in one of the memories. You have to do the DLC I think and collect the crowns, not entirely sure its been a long time since i played DS2. He has some really cool dialogue though, one line that always stuck with me: "I am no king, I'm more fit to be a jester.."
This video is so good, it got really emotional and that's something you don't see too often in these kind of videos, I love this serie by You. Kepp on the great work.
Awesome video. This is the sort of shit Destiny SHOULD HAVE pulled off, with you being the true darkness, mindlessly killing another species' God just because this white orb in the sky helped you out before bringing chaos to your planet. Honestly it hurts just to compare Destiny to Bloodborne.
Undead Albino I'm not comparing a game to a game. I'm comparing a character to a character. Is that so blasphemous? Besides, Destiny is a shooter RPG, whereas Bloodborne is a fantasy RPG. They're both RPG's. One is simply amazingly shittier than the other.
Nyxato you're still an idiot. What are you trying to compare? a retired hunter who renounced his vows and seeks to protect the beasts instead of killing them to a white orb in the sky?I'm sorry you've made yourself look even dumber with that 2nd comment.
Djura was more dangerous than a fool, he was a naive idealist. It's like a doctor who quits saving lives because he might one day need a doctor, or might accidentally kill someone. The fact is, unless every human you meet is a beast, the people who are transformed most likely cant be changed back. They are no longer people. Doesn't matter how cute and cuddly they used to be, they still rip little girls to shreds. They still attack on sight. No amount of mental gymnastics changes this fact. The fact that you are helpless in the face of cosmic might, or that you might become a beast, doesn't automatically remove the need to save people like the little girl from beasts like her father.
Anduin Arilan But, as Djura says, Old Yharnum now belongs to the beasts anyway. The people there were manipulated, infected by a plague, lied to, infected by another plague, had their homes burned to the ground and are now hunted and tortured by invaders. The bodies of beasts strung up around the city show that many weren't given a clean death. Djura isn't an idealist. Quite the opposite. He's a man so disillusioned by how fucked everyone and everything is that he'd rather let the beasts of old Yharnum be in peace than allow some bloodthirsty hunter who is just as deranged and has no real reason to be there continue the torment of the Old Yharnamites who have suffered enough. His opinion seems less that beasts have as much a right to live as humans than it is that the humans of Central Yharnum and the Church are no less monstrous than the beasts they hunt.
We don't know for a fact that there isn't a way for beasts to become human again. Look at the Suspicious Beggar, he seemed to be able to control his form to a certain extent. Also, the Beast Claw allowed people to change only a certain part of their body into a beast and they had control over when that happened. It isn't too outlandish to think that a cure to Beasthood could exist since there are devices and people that can literally control their Beasthood.
There isnt a single human we met that could control their Beasthood that didnt attack you, so they are Beasts, regardless of their level of control of it. Did you meet anyone who partook in Blood and who turned into beasts who didnt attack someone?
Ian Plunkett yea guys I gotta agree with Anduin. I mean look at the walking dead or zombie stuff in general, they always have that moment where a character faces or is overpowered by a zombie that was once a family member meanwhile before they already knew "Once that person changes it is no longer who you knew that person is gone" Now I'm not trying to make myself out to be a badass because I know if my mom changed I'd most like die being eaten alive by her but simple fact is in most science fictions and fantasies rarely has cured popped up for beastly/zombie conditions and 9/10 the person who has changed is un redeemable now I understand the whole healing church thing was fucked up but I feel little pain for the present "citizens of old yharnam" because the "citizens" are sadly no longer people "There all just flesh hungry beasts now..."-Eileen 2015
This video was amazing. Great atmosphere. What interested me about the Abhorrent Beast in the story though, is that he rewards you when another person dies. He even goes so far as to give you some of his beast blood. Even after a kill hes not teary or regretful but simply smug. He only ever gets on his pedestal of righteous anger when a Hunter starts attacking him. He also mocks your scream of death (I would know haha). That ending dialogue had me in shivers. Made be rethink all the animations and mannerisms of the beasts.
He may be a noble guy but he still cost me ten grand in blood echoes.
Only 9k for me but still... fuck him.
Same until you learn how to knock him off the edge
Ouch!
Aboood165 should have known better than to walk around in a game like this with that kind of scratch on you...

Connor Barclay all hunters know you are immortal, every NPC that refers to your "dreams" knows you're immortal
Lavos YT I didn't play DS2, so I wouldn't know :\
Connor Barclay Er, yeah, no, many NPCs make reference to the fact that you're immortal; it's a pretty major part of the canon in all the Souls games.

Djura's character puts everything that happened in such a sad light. The citizens of Yharnam weren't pursuing power like Mensis - they were sick and desperate.
These people were used as lab rats for the church.
Sunupu5150 yeah just about. seems like all the decent people in yharnam inevitably get suppressed, corrupted, or turned insane.
Pillage the church I say, after all we are hunters. WE HUNT!!!
+Kazuma - kun
perhaps, but is the human flesh warped by blood, mind ravaged by madness, still another soul to be released from agony?
The Director Thanks. That's precisely right. Have a good one.
+Kazuma - kun Soul series community, the best community xD people arguing politely and not fighting everywhere like some other games
If we look at his set of armor, it has an amazing frenzy defense and that surely fits his character, it's cool to notice these little details
Thanks for all the support guys

I fucking hate Djura
Not because of his lore,
But because he won't let us use his FUCKING AWESOME MACHINE GUN
Their motto," If a weapon ain't got kick, it ain't worth it."
A Gatling gun isn't exactly the automatic weapon you're thinking of, as they were originally stationary, hand cranked installations.
Don't worry you are getting a gatling gun in the new expansion.

Old yharnam was really an interesting piece of the game. The souls series has always been so good with making you get involved into the game and not just daydreaming through the killing spree you're doing. When you kill a monster, you KILL something, you do not eliminate a danger :)

4:35 Your narration + choice of music + Djura's dialogues....
Damn you're good VaatiVidya You gave me the chills and the feels at the same time.
But they (beasts) aways attack first
So a misunderstanding?
You're so foolish my dear friend........

I'm just theory crafting at this point, but my original argument still stands that:
Djura speaks the truth; hunters are the beasts.
The nightmare is described as "the nightmare of blood drunk hunters" - and since the beasts that act this way only exist in this place, and I think simon's dialogue hints at it as well.
that is pretty much confirmed by the very human-like "away! away!" or "it's all your fault!" screams
Otto Carvalho Riesembrg "Civilians will likely be terrified at first, but after a while of straight up murder, the towns folk, who are beasts mostly now, will fucking fight back. And I think when the curse started spreading, it only got enhanced by emotion; hate and sorrow. "
Civilians being the monsters that were hunted.
420PraiseIt Which pretty much corroberate my theory.
At least this is my opinion of the things.
nice theory
+Johan Lindgren Thanks.
late reply, but: My theory is that Djura and some of the powder kegs had a crisis of faith while purging old yahrnam, and decided to switch sides and try to protect the beasts.
Because, you know, Souls games.
darklord884 Isn't it that they were declared heretics because they didn't follow Gehrman's philosophy in designing their weapons?
The fact that Gehrman wears the charred set is why I believe he was part of the purge that took place in old Yharnam.
I believe the powder kegs methods and ways were the reason why they were easier to target and blame for what happened, but I think EVERY hunter was part of the Old Yharnam massacre.
Think about it, a whole town transformed and overrun by beasts; it should have taken more than a couple of cannons to stop
robTCGZ gehrman doesn't wear a charred set
Four Clover in the last boss fight he does
He actually does in his boss battle. You may argue that it's just for cosmetic purposes, but this is Miyazaki, he wouldn't make his character wear something just because it looks pretty, even if it's only for a boss battle
Or at least that's what I think anyway
***** Nope, he has his own set that is unlocked after you beat him.
I always liked Djura (after finding out his story). He was pretty cool.
Ryan J
True, but it is my job.
Ryan J
True, but I again compare it with zombies where we don't know if they are suffering but we still kill them without hesitation.
I liked Djura until I realized he was THAT guy in a zombie movie who thinks there will be a cure for these deformed monsters.
Ze-TopHat-Gamer *Decides not to tell you that Dead Rising 3 had a cure for Zombification*
I said Zombie movies but. Ok.
well no, i understand that part, just saying that even if it is fiction, that doesn't mean you're SUPPOSED to think they're actually crazy :P
He doesn't seem convinced that there could be a cure so much as he's had enough of watching people brutally murdered and tortured by blood-crazed and sadistic hunters who have no reason to enter the old districts in the first place.
djura. the only sane man in yharnam
Not really,he's extremely naive. These beasts are not passive they'll attack you on sight, the Hunters aren't the ones who started the fight.
***** You are cherry picking here. The beasts in the Hunter's Nightmare were passive but the rest aren't.
I started something, and I don't know how to react XD

That's a nightmare though, one in which Hunters are cursed to kill over and over again.
Not because he was hard to get past,
but because after listening to him and understanding what he was saying, I became conflicted about what I thought.
I still thought that the Beasts were my enemies, that they would mindlessly kill, but I also realized that I was doing the
same thing.

I mean yeah but what humanity they have left is gone. If djura wanted to protect people from hunters, he could’ve just set up camp in central yharnam
@@nolang.3094 Im pretty sure that the reason for him to stay at Old Yarnahm is because its not people he's protecting but rather "his people". Beast: "I didn't ask for this..."
But being the host of the nightmare maybe we could have tapped into his "hunter dream" as it were, which might explain the deformed birds and whatnot. i really am not sure! i'm sure there's lore theory on this guy, i'm curious what your take is!
it's an amazing explanation from your side about one of my favorite character in the game thanks a lot.
tammam zakkar No worries :)
Just went through your "Prepare to Cry" serie. Really good job: music, images, even your voice is nice to litsten to! You've gathered a whole lot of datas together. Thanks to you, I can get even more excited by this Master Piece that is "Bloodborne"!
Absolutely think your Bloodborne coverage is outstanding. Keep up the good work!
I find it funny that even though at least half of the players hate him, he's still the only character that compliments your skills
How does he get that kind of camera angles on console? I mean on PC you can debug or hack the thing easily, but on PS4?
I got behind Djura by invading somebody. He doesn't aggro that way. Took FOREVER to get him shooting that chain gun at someone though lol
VaatiVidya So Djura said, "...the next time you dream, give some thoughts...to the hunt." He finished the sentence. Is this also the result of invading someone's world to get the full dialogue?
Suzie C Someone probably ripped the audio files.
VaatiVidya Oh I see, very interesting. Great editing and work, I like your content a lot. Keep up!
Suzie C I thought the full dialogue was "give some thought to the hunt, *and its purpose*"
"Some beasts are even capable of speech and reason"
Are you SURE about that!?
Was anyone else disappointed that you couldn't use the Gattling gun?
This is probably the best produced video Vaati's worked on so far. Really put together well!
I cannot believe how calming and relaxing your voice is, could listen to you read about any story !
#beastlivesmatter
+Rudy Torrez Djura's lore in a nutshell. Fuck him.
That comment didn't aged well (the date is 06/04/2020)
@@victordemortier369 I think it aged decently, if its intent was to mock.
this didn't aged well at all
4years later
Me : OH boy oh boy
Djura is one reason I first chose the vilebloods to side with. Then following Eileen showed me the truth and that's when I chose to become a hoonter of hoonters! Love this game and it's lore.
Could it be something sadder than dark souls lore?
yeah, bloodborne lore
My life is sadder than bb lore
LOL
Love the way you cover the characters of bloodborne. You truly make awesome videos. Cant wait for alfreds story. Hope you keep making more.
ChaoticSloth Yup this one was definetly one of the weakest video in terms of lore explanation i have seen on the channel
*****
That's what I said.
this dude is so underrated
Zac Jak he's not.
I absolutely, 100% adore the composition of your lore videos. Feels like I´m looking at hidden parts of the game itself.
D:
+Branden Long Thats damn dark..
that's what I've always thought too, you could just be running around and killing innocent people
A Spec Ops: The Line type revelation would be pretty cool.
+Rabid Ducking Oreo Milkshake No it wouldn't . maybe a metro 2033 ending would be better
Do you plan on making a video about the Vilebloods?
Larissa A Judging by Vaati's comment if you scroll up from your comment to right under the video, he's gonna do Alfred, Cainhurst, and (subsequently) The Vilebloods in the next video. :)
TimelessOne123 can't wait for it.
DrTheKay the SALT!!!!!
DrTheKay I'm glad this "controversy" eventually died down into the realm of sanity, but I still get irked reading old comments from the people who were so anti-vaati during it.
seriously. I mean crinnnnnnge haha
I don't see how people could hate Djura. He's an old badass grandpa who's lost none of his edge, and he has a minigun. That's kinda awesome.
I don't hate him, but I don't believe him to be a good person. At heart, maybe. But even if they once were, a beast is not a man, not anymore. They are not innocent, they are not harmless. By protecting them, he is endangering what little is left of humanity.
@@Bone8380 I just think he's cool
He isn't THAT old lol
To be fair all the old people in Yharnam have miniguns or some other kind of insanely big firearm.
I have seen all of these "Prepare to cry" videos of yours.
This is one of the best you made. Really really good job :)
You made my evening. Thank you.
great job. you really help to clearly bring out the emotional aspects of the lore.
normal hunters: use weapons to kill silently under cover of night
Powdercake Hunters: *BOOM*
"Kaboom?"
(Sigh) "Yes, Rico. Kaboom" XDD
The best thing about this character aside from his personality is his amazing voice, he shares the same voice actor as King Vendrick from Dark Souls 2. :P
i don't remember vendrick talking in ds2
@@duroorud527 he only talks in one of the memories. You have to do the DLC I think and collect the crowns, not entirely sure its been a long time since i played DS2. He has some really cool dialogue though, one line that always stuck with me: "I am no king, I'm more fit to be a jester.."
Although happy for another video... I wanted a prepare to cry for my waifu, the doll.
It’s a doll you weirdo
That's the point, mister president
George Washington She's fucking beautiful.
@@george_MF_washington she showed emotions
still a doll...that resembles Maria..
I kind of see his point most beast just sit there pretty peacefully until you show up and reck there shit
The quality of your videos is utter madness Vaati, thanks for all of these :)
is any of this gonna be on the exam?
Yes.
I mean, I understand. I got the rewards for telling him I'd "spare the beast", but then I saw his outfit.....
0:38 *Bloodborne kart*
You have a really calming voice... I enjoy putting your lore videos on in the background to relax; after I've already seen them once through, already.
This video is so good, it got really emotional and that's something you don't see too often in these kind of videos, I love this serie by You. Kepp on the great work.
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
NOW YOU'RE JUST A HUNTER THAT I USED TO KNOW, JUST A HUNTER!
Nyxato Just stop. With each comment you somehow make yourself seem even dumber than you already are.Just stop.
Undead Albino Provide an argument. You're attacking me, you cant ask me to stop. Do us all a favor and make me look stupid, I dare you.
Nyxato you already did that yourself.
Just picked up bloodborne, and found this channel. Absolutely amazing content bro, love it
These Lore videos are the ones you should make more of, because they are your best and most fascinating by far.
Turns on captions first read is "they called it fashion blood"
Wait whaaaaat?
Fashion souls, fashion blood. It makes sense.
I always call it "Bloodfashion". In my opinion, it sounds better :-)
XD
I keep hearing the word "Powder Cake" but it's "Powder Keg". XP
i thought that too
This video was amazing.
They're not people anymore, Djura. Those people are gone; they've been gone for a long time, now. Maybe one day, YOU will understand
The church is actually the sinister bad guy in an RPG? I can't believe it. (jk)
Dammit, what's the music in this video!?!
Beast lives matter.
watching these videos has really had a impact on me and the way i play this game.
This game is soooooo good. I can’t stop playing it and watching lore videos about it.
