Andrei Gawrilow is one of the best musicians born and raised in the former Soviet Union! I'm happy for him that he moved to Switzerland. Like Ashkenazy, who also won the gold medal at the Tschaikowski competition. Horowitz, Rachmaninov and Stravinsky moved to the USA. The violin gold medal winner from 1982 from the CCCP, Victoria Mullova moved also to Canada, US and today she lives in London. Pretty good .

I always loved his confidence :D Making billions of mistakes in places where millions of notes, and still goes on and on like nothing noticable happened. I do understand if Horowitz due to his age let's himself a little easiness, without losing the point of music and showing HUGE respect as to audience so to music itself (and of course to himself), but being not old and so confident in playing wrong notes is like so childish :D. For me the biggest mastership is in ability of keeping balance. And Mr. Gavrilov as for me went too deep into thinkings which caused the losing of his performing skills. Not sure at all if he ever criticized himself at any moment of his life. Confidence is overwhelming. Funny and sad at the same time. Incredible!

I'd have to disagree with you, and tend to agree with Beethoven: It is better to play wrong notes with passion than without, the latter of which is inexcusable. Almost all pianists who perfectly, or nearly so, tend to not be very inspired, in my humble experience, as their emphasis is on playing right notes for the most part.
