    Thanks Cam from another Cam from across the pond in Canada. I just subscribed to your channel tonight and have watched about 5 or 6 of your videos already. Yesterday I bought an OrangeLink from RileyLink and plan to get started with closed looping soon. I really appreciate your honesty and candour on these products and showing what all is available. Keep up the great work!

      Hi yaz, I'm happy for you. After a few months now , the 780G just doesn't work properly for me. I had better average values when managing manually (HBa1c around 6.5).
      Problem is, when it is in smartguard mode, there is no way to put a real bolus to get glucose levels down more quickly. The SmartGuard is just not aggressive enough. One would have to cheat and fake taking Carbs, but that also causes problems with the Algorithm . Also no way to temporarily modify the basel rate.
      It definitely does not know very well how to deal with a pizza.
      I have a quite good idea what my carb ratio was on the previous pump. But the 780G keeps adjusting the amounts down, resulting in too high levels.
      I was really hopeful that the 780G would deliver, but I'm most of the time between 8.5 and 10, where as my target range is 5.5.
      I do sleep better though: I silence the pump, and during the night glucose levels very slowly descend to 5.5, but it takes about 6 hours to get there.

    Never been a fan of classical pumps, so I'm very excited about trying an OmniPod with a closed-loop system. Or another patch pump for that matter, it seems they aren't the only company in that space anymore :O
    Indeed, I think it would be super interesting if you could make a video comparing different pumps, specifically more compact/unintrusive/tubeless models.

    This is wonderful news. I hope it will show readings on my samsung watch as well. I do not have apple. Will it be waterproof like the G6? I hope it will be 15 days so we only have to worry about changing it twice a month. I hope it is affordable to make a diabetic's life a lot easier. God knows we suffer enough.

    Another Great Video,
    it seems diy closed loops lead the way and forced commercial development to speed things up.
    Here in the UK commercial closed loop systems will only be widely available for self funded patients. I watched your excellent loop series. When you can, do a similar break down for the different diy systems. I believe the diy loop system people set up largely depends on what hardware they already have access to, for example I have an NHS supplied Insight pump and Libre and use an android phone hence I only needed to add a MiaoMiao to set up AAPS.

    Speculations welcome, such as release in the UK (if it will be before/after US, if Brexit may have any effect on UK approval as I believe before it was one approval process for the whole of EU)
    Also if one is about to upgrade their pump if it’s worth holding off etc..

    Kamil, You mentioned Beta Bionics dual hormone pump. What are your thoughts on dual hormone (insulin, glucagon) closed loop system? That is, if your CGM detects onset of hypoglycemia, the pump would micro-dose glucagon for correction.

    • @Nerdabetic
      @Nerdabetic  3 года назад

      I think it’s amazing and will be life changing to many. I do not think they publicly made any comments on that. I would assume it would give tiny doses in a same way closed loop systems do with insulin. What do you think about this idea?

  • @chuckschillingvideos
    @chuckschillingvideos Год назад

    I'm not the least bit excited about closed loop systems. I don't get a very good feeling that they are going to work very well for patients with profound insulin resistance (like me) and I think I will do better if I and I alone determine my basal rates and bolus quantities.

    Not sure if you said medtronic 780 will work with dexcom or not

    • @minejager1818
      @minejager1818 3 года назад

      It doesn't. The 780 has already been launched you can watch videos about it. Medtronic pumps only work with the Guardian sensor from Medtronic. This video is about hybrid closed loop systems which often use older pumps or pumps which don't have a system integrated already

    Have you been having any adverse reaction to the Dexcom G6 adhesive glue on their sensors? I think they changed the glue formula almost a year ago and ever since then the sensors tear my skin up. If the sensor material gets wet in the shower it starts a terrible skin reaction. I’m having to create an underlay. Basically putting the sensor on top of a big bandaid and poking a hole through the center for the insertion needle sensor. What a pain in the ass! I’ve called Dexcom many times and they don’t care at all! You can Google this issue under “Dexcom sensor allergic or skin reaction”.

    • @matthewschrock8947
      @matthewschrock8947 2 года назад +1

      It is actually very common, I had bad allergic skin reaction to G6, the solution for me was a simple skin prep, both Medline or Smith & Neph worked equally well, as an added insurance, I also put on SkinTac after the prep. It works amazing, no nasty bumps or rash anymore, all available on eBay and WELL worth it to keep my G6. GOOD LUCK ALL!

    I'm very worried about what's happening (commercial agreements).Years ago, it was still possible to design your own closed look system (e.g.openaps.org ). Pump manufacturer since then have started removing that possibility (medtronic) , and now we would have to pay to use software that sends all data back to "mothership"? And we'll have to pay a license to use the software, but cannot roll our own algorithm and keep our data private to ourself? Too bad you did not mention openaps #wearenotwaiting
    Thanks for this info! I'm suffering from the Medtronic Minimed 780G pump's bad software algo design and unreliable sensors. It's also not capable to communicate with latest versions of iOS and MacOS, or Linux.
    Greeting from Switzerland, Peter
