aaaw, this grumpy old man looks so cuddly, though! :D metallers usually are the sweetest people ever, but as is the case in most groups, there can be some really annoying specimens. Thankfully I never met one of them or was in one of these situations. I was near a moshpit on my first metal concert, for example, and someone bumped into me, so I fell down. What happened? The pit immediately stopped, they put me back on my feet and on it went, with a huge mountain of a guy staying next to me keeping me up. In case you read this, thanks, dude, whoever you are.

You forgot those who while watching a show instead of enjoying it, they're always criticizing the band's sound, the guitar riffs, the music notes, even if the vocalist forgets a word of the song...every single thing like if they were the authority; their views are absolute and the rest must accept it.
A lot of the things you said in the video have happened to me at gigs and festivals. I've had people stand in front of me who were taller than me I'm 5'11, been covered in someone's beer, had some question my shirt I was wearing, talking during a band's set and the list goes on. Infidelamsterdam I think Article 13 might have something to do with it. I’m in the States and I can watch it, but people in Europe I think have a more difficult time viewing it.
To add to people coming up and standing in front of you, being a person who is below 6ft... I have had on several occasions someone come up, much taller than I am and plant themselves right in front of me. And almost every time, they look back at me and continue to stand there... They know! Not cool...
this / past / spring I Understand it sucks to be short but dude sometimes there isn't much of a choice... at a pact show tall people may not hAve anywhere else to stand except right in front of someone else..... I'm a 6'6 dude and try to be conscientious of people around me But sometimes no matter where I stand I'm going to be in some ones way so sorry man it just is going to happen
I totally get the height issue. I understand if your tall you'll likely be blocking a bit the view for someone. Maybe I should have elaborated that it's like, a direct, right in front of the shorter person less than a foot in front of them. With room to stagger to the sides! If it's packed like sardines, I would get it. No hard feelings for the tall.
tubenshaft! I respect that as well, if it were freaking packed but the guy in front of me had a kid on their shoulders, I'd be even more okay with that. That's kind of a "passing of the torch" for love of music. Sounds like you got your heart in the right place!
@@thispastspring3733 it's tough. Im 6'1" and sometimes the group im with likes to go early so they can be up close. On one hand I'm always anxious about the people behind me not getting a good view, so i try to stand to the side if i can, but on the other hand, i can't do this every time. I got there early for a good spot and also i can't go sit in the corner away from my friends every show. I try to be polite when i can, but i also try to play things by ear like you said. Im sorry that happened to you however.
I'm 163cm, and people always seem to think that the perfect spot to stand is right in front of me, and find it's the perfect place for me to watch the concert through their phone... I get my phone out and lift it high to take a few photos as I usually review shows, but only a few sjots and if they're shit then they're shit, and I try and link to a proper photographer as well.
I have noticed that happens a lot. I'm not that tall (177cm) but at least in the last two shows i've been, I have moved towards the side to let some girls behind me get a better view. I know it's annoying when someone taller than you gets right in front of you.
Theses shitty issues have been happening since 1983.....lot of drama back then and it's getting more annoying through the coming years. I completely agree. Great video man.
Those who yell "Slayer" at all times whenever they get the chance, also have a tendency to be so judgemental if you're not a Slayer fan yourself. "Oh! You don't like *real* metal. You're just a poser!".
I mentioned the "don't wear the shirt of the band you're seeing" rule to 2 of my friends when we saw The Sword, all 3 of us were wearing our The Sword shirts.
Yeah, about that Slayer thing: in Finland people shout "Soittakaa paranoidia!" which means "Play paranoid!" (Paranoid - Black sabbath). It's a joke from 1980's and it still is strong.. I always want to punch them so bad. You hear it everywhere.
In Denmark we say "Spil noget med Slayeeeer" (play something with Slayer).. I think it's hilarious at some pop artists concert etc. - but I almost want to leave when I hear it at a metal show, especially if I'm on stage with my own band (yes, we play a style of thrash metal.. but come the fuck on!)
the area that the merch table is at in the usual venue i go to is really small so we ended up standing in line to see what was at the table BUT we went and moved out of the way while we decided what we wanted first.
I've encountered nearly everything you mentioned and then some. It's a real mood killer. I go to concerts to have fun but all this crap sometimes makes you want to just leave.
I know there’s a quote in the movie PCU where the main character says to his friend “you’re actually going to wear the shirt of the band you’re going to see? Don’t be that guy!” I always assumed that’s where the joke came from. I often wear shirts from the band I’m there to see especially at festivals. The only “unwritten rule” I’d adhere to is I would never be onstage or in a band photo wearing my band’s t-shirt.
Yea I first learned about this from the show "Friends" I think Ross or one of them do it and I think he literally said the same shit, "dont be that guy" i thought that was the first one lol
Ed, let me explain the Slayer shouting. It actually comes from corrupting (verbastering) the word 'Spelen!' (Play!) in Dutch. People were screaming 'Spelen!' whenever a band is silent. That gradually transformed into people shouting Slayer (similar pronounced) instead, for fun. I know it's kinda annoying nowadays but when you know the origin it makes it slightly funnier :-)
Ooh the merch table sometimes wish I could hateplow my way through like pee wee dressed as a nun trying to waiting to get to his bicycle, awesome video as always Cheers 🍻
Im a metalhead from Australia and have to say I agree with all your points, the only thing that doesnt bug me is the Slayer part but Ive only heard someone yell Slayer at the Slayer gig last month, walking in. Gotta add, had one too many chicks take small backpacks in and do that squeeze in infront of me where theres 0 room and bounce around, whacking me with their bags. Such bs. I think it all comes down to individuals and how courteous and considerate they are particularly in social situations.
I never wear the band's shirt that's headlining if I go to their concert. But I'm not saying it's some rule and I'm definitely not telling people to do it. I just like wearing less known band shirts to promote them or maybe spark some conversation in the concert, because it's one of the best ways to promote a band. Have other like-minded people see it. So yeah basically I just want to promote smaller bands rather than the band everyone is there to watch anyway.
The main thing I hate about metalheads is closed mindedness. I've met So many who think metal is the only genre of music on earth and everything else is terrible... as a person who likes old music, dance, techno, disco, metal, hard folk and classic rock, southern rock, country, pop, r&b, hip hop and rap... I never appreciate this kind of thinking... I appreciate people who like whatever they like and allow others to like whatever they like. 👍
Man I like what you are doing with your beard, its nice to have some alternate ways to wear it. You should try putting it in two braids or something sometime I bet it would look real badass.
I got that too . That people complain about the shirt that i'm wearing. Because my favorite Band is Bring Me the Horizon and i like to wear merch from them. Doesn't mean i can't go to a Death Metal / Deathcore and enjoy the music ...^^ And that people complain about the Band you like / that is on your shirt. I will never give a f. if someone say they don't like bmth or something. That will never change that i like them and love listening to them!
That was absolute Gold, those facial expressions of pure frustration, were f*cking hilarious I've felt them all when I've been out at shows Especially people who think they can fit in front of you. Thanks for all that you do Ed Keep it loud and Heavy Cheers from all us here in 🇨🇦🤘🍻
What i hate more than anything is a moshpit in a black metal gig.... AND some giant coming in front of me jeez.... so yeah I can agree to most of this sadly.
You hit the nail on the head with this! Thankfully here in Pittsburgh, we don't really worry about most of these issues. Well...at least at underground shows. The bigger the band, the more these problems become an issue. I think it comes down to the etiquette with these issues, and when more of the masses are involved, the worse it gets. In regards to the shirt issue, I might be able to help you with that one! It's a strange rule, but the reason why it's frowned upon to wear the shirt for the band you're going to see is because you're at this show, so of course you like this band. So it's treated that you don't need to wear their shirt to show support. There are exceptions to this, one being a shirt from a previous tour that you went to for said band. For example, say I go and see Uada (which I'll be doing this weekend) and I wear the tour shirt from when I saw them with Inquisition years ago, that's perfectly fine. This is typically applied to a standard show, and not a fest, although one should avoid wearing a headliner's shirt for said reasoning. For fests, it seems to be that if you wear a shirt for a band that is lower on the bill, that's fine, because they're not the big name drawing band most come to see. It's weird, but that seems to be why these rules are here. I blame my dad for starting this whole idea for me. 😂
Da fuck with that T-Shirt "Rule" in Mexico everyone goes with the Band T-Shirt, and the persons that doesn't it's because they don't have 1 and they buy it on the Show
I've never heard of the shirt rule and I've been too dozens of shows. Infact most the shows I've been too I'd bet at least half of the audience had one of the group's we were watching shirts on, or bought them at the show and then put them on. Never have I had anyone say anything to me about what fucking shirt I had on. I've also, had the opposite experience with big name bands and local groups that you have. Meaning, the craziest shit I've seen at shows ALWAYS happened at local venues with local groups. Funny how shit works from state to state. \m/
@@BurnTheNuanceThe shirt thing is something ultimately no one really gives a shit about too much around here, but I do hear about it frequently enough overall that I can say it exists. Sometimes I'll joke about it, but it's never serious, because life is too short for shit like that. Haha In regards to the show situation, that's wild! State to state, even city to city, crowd differences are always interesting. The one fest that was THE biggest disaster when it came to the crowds was Mayhem fest. Most, if not all, altercations I've seen were at those events, and I guarantee its because these people only go to those events and don't know the proper etiquette at shows, much like how the Warped Tour crowd was. Anyone who goes to shows frequently generally knows that being a dick is just frowned upon. 😂
Muppio me too.... but sometimes there's no choice where to plant yourself at a gig.... so there isn't much of a solution to the problem except keep trying to be conscientious
I'm feeling too lazy to go into the details right now, but the wearing the shirt of the band playing thing is covered on Brenocide's "that's not metal" blog.

Hey Ed, great video, I like your offensive humor, it pretty much fits to my taste of good entertainment :D The really most annoying kind of metalhead in my oppinion are those guys who can't stand any other taste as their own. That doesn't only concern the personal taste for bands, clothing or whatever, but espacially the taste for metal itself. I personal hate metalheads that only accept metal as music. That means - to be more precise - they hate all other people that listen to other music than metal. Of course, I personally enjoy mostly metal but I got friends that listen to Rap, Electro, Techno, Alternative, Indie, whatever. I get along with them perfectly, there will be some sidekicks when it comes to music from my side exactly as I have to take jokes about metal from them. Thats it, thats all what will happen. For me, music is a big and great part in life, but it is not everything. Some Metalheads don't get that... :D

Thanks for addressing these! I can relate to this at a lot of concerts especially other metalheads judging me by what I wear. I don’t have any tattoos or piercings and I dress quite mainstream but they look at me like I shouldn’t be there lol.
For real tho. I went to a Slayer concert and wore a white King Crimson shirt. Just be comfortable with yourself.
Metalheads are simultaneously the coolest people/fans and the worst people/fans. Great video. I'm pretty much annoyed by the same things but I'll add a few to the list.
- The unwanted sweaty person who decides you're their buddy and they constantly try to put their arm around you or hang on your shoulder.
- The people in the mosh pit who seem like they deliberately are trying to hurt people.
- The people who think they are so damn cool and are talking and bragging loudly about shit.
- The creepy dudes that constantly try to get with the women at shows.
- The assholes that throw their full or near full beers or drinks into the air so it rains fucking booze and ice.
I also get really annoyed with the drunk women in their near 40s trying to come on to me (and my friends). I mean I'm fucking 16 years old.

metallers usually are the sweetest people ever, but as is the case in most groups, there can be some really annoying specimens. Thankfully I never met one of them or was in one of these situations. But sometimes no matter where I stand I'm going to be in some ones way so sorry man it just is going to happen

I have noticed that happens a lot. I'm not that tall (177cm) but at least in the last two shows i've been, I have moved towards the side to let some girls behind me get a better view. I know it's annoying when someone taller than you gets right in front of you.

Those who yell "Slayer" at all times whenever they get the chance, also have a tendency to be so judgemental if you're not a Slayer fan yourself. "Oh! You don't like *real* metal. You're just a poser!".
And the yelling slayer thing has never been funny
@MrZarewna. I feel you. Soittakaa Paranoid is the oldest and the most tired joke there is.
the area that the merch table is at in the usual venue i go to is really small so we ended up standing in line to see what was at the table BUT we went and moved out of the way while we decided what we wanted first.
I've encountered nearly everything you mentioned and then some. It's a real mood killer. I go to concerts to have fun but all this crap sometimes makes you want to just leave.
You like Ghost?
Respekt
I wish my neighbors offered me a beer while I screamed in my house. Lol. 🍺
I think it looks sharp, man. I know it's been a year, but i think it's cool and hope you are still rocking it.
I always wear tie dye at metal/ punk shows or Bob Marley at more white centric band shows.
Beard looks good, you look like a viking
The main thing I hate about metalheads is closed mindedness. I've met So many who think metal is the only genre of music on earth and everything else is terrible... as a person who likes old music, dance, techno, disco, metal, hard folk and classic rock, southern rock, country, pop, r&b, hip hop and rap... I never appreciate this kind of thinking... I appreciate people who like whatever they like and allow others to like whatever they like. 👍

Haha
In regards to the show situation, that's wild! 😂
I'm 1.98m (6.6ft) and i'm more than happy letting someone shorter than me infront, no problem.
Muppio me too.... but sometimes there's no choice where to plant yourself at a gig.... so there isn't much of a solution to the problem except keep trying to be conscientious

What you said about metalheads at the merch who take their sweet time annoy the hell out of me. Even band stared and they seemed terrified. It got worse, I almost got elbowed in the face, an older lady on front of me pulled me closer asking to not let some dude push her again.
