I used to wear pink anime/jpop t-shirts to metal concerts and metal shirts to Jpop concerts just for the reaction, judgmental people everywhere.
Dennis Bauer That's fucking awesome! xD
Dennis Bauer I'm gonna guess the metalheads called you a weeb and a poser, and the J pop fans thought you were satanic
I wonder how you are still alive
I buy bootleg shirts. Like it can say Nirvana and then it has a picture of Bionacles on it, or a shirt that says Eminem but it has a picture of Justin Timberlake when he was in Nsync. People take themselves way to seriously nowadays.
As "hipster" as it its ironic shirts are the fucking best.
I don't really care what a person wears but it's kind of funny when you see someone with a Metallica shirt on but can't name one Metallica song.
Edward Richtofen and everyone that can name one song is always Master of Puppets lol 😂
pierce that's true. Or for whom the bell tolls. Or one. Or enter sandman.
Edward Richtofen Yep, it's always Enter Sandman. hahaha!
Speaking of Metallica. Whats your opinion on the new album? I think its pretty good
Jack The Ripper eh definitely not the greatest but it's not bad. Could be worse.
I'm wearing a Yoda shirt, and I'm not a Jedi. FUCK!!!!!
hahaha
Ant Man I'm wearing a video game t shirt and I'm not a video character. SHIT!
Ant Man this is a good reply lol
george, it means that you're a star wars fan,not a SW nerd...SW nerds literally collect the things that are connected with the film
you don't have to be a jedi to wear anything that's star wars related..
Im just annoyed people think that all my favorite bands are clothing brands.
That's adorable though... like the same way a child saying some incredibly dumb shit is adorable. Those poor fools know not what they do. The distributors should fucking know better, yes, those people are retards, but the poor people had this history of name/logos on clothes = brands. That's been their experience with names/images on shirts.
David. That’s exactly the problem I have with todays world.
David Sadowski why, because you want them to think you “don’t care” about clothing brands? Now people who see you in a metal shirt think YOU are into clothing brands. Well you are not that much different than regular people in society and this is just a reminder. Sorry, you are a human just like them.
The only people who are gonna think that bands like Nirvana, AC/DC and The Rolling Stones are actually brands are extremely musically oblivious people.
My point: who cares if musically oblivious people think your favorite bands are brands?
TheKarret it stops being adorable after the age of 5.
Take notice
Everyone in middle and high school that wear those fucking Nirvana shirts
But seriously it's fucking pointless and dumb to get upset over a shirt
Wyattxhim WITH THE LIGHTS OUT ITS LESS DANGEROUS
Wyattxhim I' m in middle school and they still do!
Wyattxhim I have a nirvana shirt......because I like nirvana.
RIP Kurt Cocain, father of electro grunge
I see it all the time. I always think if they can name the final lineup of Nirvana or not.
I got a guy into Abominable Putridity a few weeks back. He said he liked the artwork and wanted to know " What those squiggly lines say"
Jacob Warfel HAHAHAHAHA FUNNIEST SHIT I HAVE EVER HEARD
Maybe people who buying shirts like this for fashion are making first step to become a metalhead. Step 1 - buy a shirt. Step 2 - start listening of curiosity. Step 3 - start liking it.
eXorcisTv Only problem with that is most of them don't even know its a band. They just think its a brand.
STLBLUESLAMBOFGOD Like the whole people assuming Nirvana the band's shirts are from the brand of the same name.
eXorcisTv nah most of them won’t trust me
I still think people wearing a bandshirt while not liking the music is dumb. I don't go out of my way to tell them so (online or irl) tough. But I get people getting all pissed off about this subject, some people love metal so much they don't want to see it worn like a fucking fashion statement. And I can understand their point of view. Now people should always do what they want but they should be mindfull of the results of said actions.
Me too!!they fucking piss me off
Basically, enjoying and experiencing art > pretending to enjoy and experiencing art.
I don't understand why you would wear a shirt for a band you haven't heard, or quote a book you haven't read, or discuss a movie you haven't seen. That's my opinion.
I don't get irrationally upset or anything, but it is slightly annoying; mainly because when I see a shirt for something I like, I immediately want to talk to that person, but many times they're not actually fans.
I just came across your channel to get samples of Growls, then I realize that I was in front of the channel I was looking for ages. Mine is about metal but in spanish, I always try to spread the same message, I love ur philosophy of life, so proud so have people like u in Metal.
PS: I recommended and linked ur channel in my growl tutorials in spanish giving credit.
Take Care !!!!! :)
I'm personally mixed about this topic
I'm vary rarely this impartial. It does fucking annoy me seeing people wearing shirts just because it's fashionable but at the same time I wouldn't throw a hissy fit about it.
+TakeTo TheShadows
Why get annoyed at all? Getting upset only harms you. It's not your problem what others want to wear and for what reasons, and you can't change them by insulting them.
***** I know that's why I just said I wouldn't throw a hissy fit.
TakeTo TheShadows
Yeah alright, I get it. Personally I couldn't care less about the matter and I think Infidel's comparison with military boots and camo pants is very good. If some metalhead thinks non-metalheads can't wear metal shirts then why should a guy who never went to the army wear military clothing.
Or indeed why wear a mjölnir pendant if you don't practice paganism or know anything about it except what you heard in Amon Amarth lyrics ;-)
Wait for the fashion to die off, us metalheads will still exist!!!
i wore a dying fetus shirt to school. some kid said he was a fan of them. i asked him what his favorite album was. he said the one with sandman.
god is dead.
Atleast todays kids have more maturity then the members dying fetus
Fakest shit ive read
@@sofieruiz5748 oh well you look at that, another one judging a band by their name alone! Wonderful!
'metal has no rules' - I wish this was true. I am an avid fan of black metal but I repeatedly get flak from fellow black-metallers for not being trve kvlt enough personality wise, but also because I like wearing colour and not all black all the time... so what if I wear a white floral dress :|
Luna Hemera Tell them to Fuck off and mind their own business. I hate trendy people who do nothing but follow rules and other trends.
I have since left that particular group of people. They were quite elitist and basically a re-run of the early Norwegian black metal scene without the murder and arson, but with that ideology. Not my proudest days, but hey, we all have the wrong friends at some point.
the hipster phrase "trve kvlt" is far more annoying then anyone wearing a white dress. That whole trve kvlt shit is for the real posers.
Luna Hemera fuck Elitits.
The problem for me is that they are trying to seek popularity, because "look how edgy they are for wearing a slayer shirt."
Our music is not a fashion statement.
SLAYER earned 10M dollars with 1 year from merch sales.
I stopped caring about most stuff in the universe a long time ago
"Eh, I'm Dutch, fuck it"
That killed me. Got a good gut laugh from that.
I used to get annoyed a lot about people wearing band t-shits that they didn't listen to. I was never extreme like the people you mentioned, mine was all internal annoyance. After seeing you video I realise how daft I have been sounding, the points you make are fantastic. I think I just take a second and chill.
Nice video :)
Thanks man, glad you liked it ;-)
Infidelamsterdam not a problem :)
I'd rather see metal shirts with sweet art everywhere even if people hate it than see anymore aero or New York shirts.
I completely agree. I do the same thing with clothes. Like you mentioned, the camo pants and boots, but I also have a leather riding jacket. Do I have a motorcycle? No, I just like leather jackets. They're comfortable, warm, and they look great. It's the same thing, they like the design, so who cares whether they like, don't like, or even listen to the band. It doesn't hurt me in any way.
Similar thing with my greatcoat, which is a vintage RAF wool one. I got it because I wanted a nice warm coat for the winter, and I like it. Not because of Torchwood, not because it's "cool". Because it's a damn good coat. Although I am getting too fat for it...
I'm same with leather jackets, hell I even have the millitary hat to go with it cause I think it looks awesome!
People will stereotype it as gay (even though they know I'm straight) but I wear those 2 things because of 60's British rockers and their fashion which was consisted similarly, it's also because I like the old school rebellious biker style. :)
People just need to worry about themselves more; it's as simple as that, worrying about what other's do in their lives is ultimately pointless for yourself.
You're finally back. I've missed you!
Andstyggð we all have
I`ve no problem with someone buying a metal t-shirt if they are`nt even into metal, just as long as they don`t start saying they like the music when they don`t!
Woah, Ed. I can get behind you on everything else. But Toblerone, you lost me there. I need my mountain shaped chocolate fix, or else.
You need help...Baldrick is on the way :-p
Infidelamsterdam Please not him!
+Infidelamsterdam BALDRICK!!!!!
I'm a high school student, and I cannot describe how many people I see wearing Nirvana, Megadeth, Misfits, and Metallica (just to name a few) shirts who just give me a blank look when I ask what songs by them they like. However, all they are doing is displaying their ignorance, and that's their fault and I have no issue with it.
I do find it funny though that some of the same people who listen to music about disemboweling virgins and skullfucking and whatnot are the same ones who complain about being offended.
Fair enough. Generally the people I see who wear them are your typical "scene/emo" kids. I personally don't dislike people like that, but when I see some kid who always talks about Asking Alexandria wearing a Behemoth shirt or something, I have my doubts.
What school do you go to? It sounds horrible
@Carrie Yu you question because she's a girl? Or what?
I'm a girl and I Fucking love metal. But I look more like someone who wouldn't so I look like a "poser" to some
I used to get really mad when people did this
Nowadays, i just leave them to it
pyrostrike uk you gave up after brexit?
Morfeus what the heck has Brexit got to do with Metal>
ignorance usually is the best policy with those people..
To be fair, it's pretty damn retarded to wear a symbol (any symbol in any form) without even knowing what it stands for. It's one thing for metal to appropriate satanist symbols while understanding where they come from (or mainstream culture appropriating classical metal bands with the basic idea of "this music was the shit back in the day and the shirts look nice"), and another to wear a shirt with the anarchist logo without even knowing what anarchism is just because it looks kind of cool. Basically: expect to be looked at funny while wearing a "Free Palestine" shirt on the streets of Tel Aviv, the passers-by won't know you're just illiterate and not expressing a political opinion; now if some time in the future these shirts come into fashion for some obscure reason (like the Che Guevara ones did), people will become less presumptive.
P.S. I've hated wearing clothes with random writing on them since before I could actually read. I still find low-scoring high school students wearing Cambridge hoodies bizarre.
I totally agree with what you are saying... its almost like when people get Asian lettering without researching beforehand what the phrase or word is supposed to look like because they were drunk and thoughtless one night... people just act on impulse or go with something because it is supposedly cool to someone... as a thirty year old I really don't give a shit what some dumbass kid does or wears because I know they are just being dumbass kids, like I was as well... but that being said, its important to let them know what they are supporting by pointing shit out when you see it... as the now old heads, its the 90s kids turn to help the new gen have more informed and thoughtful decisions... and none of that includes bashing them... you could simply be like, oh you like anarchy? well, what about it do you like and how do you think it could improve or affect the world?... by engaging in questions and not bossing them around or putting them down, you are helping them gain knowledge without scaring them away and fronting them out.... we can talk about all that shit without it ending with an elitist dick waving contest....
Then blame it on the distributors for selling those t-shirts right out in the open market, not the consumers who buys those shirts in the first place.
So not everybody has enough time to do research while they're on a shopping spree.
This guy is the most decent and down to earth guy ever.
I just don't like when people talk shit about metal, but will wear a metal shirt. Ya, it's a fashion and people can do what they want.
H&M stands for Heavy Metal duh
fuck outaaa here lmao
I never knew
I think people should be able 2 wear whatever they want, and go to whatever concert they want.
I personally disagree with people wearing band merch from a band they have never even heard of, but what somebody else wears is none of our business. It isn't effecting our enjoyment of a band. As cheesy as this is, I believe the phrase "Metal is passion, not fashion" is relevant here. Stop caring about what others wear and enjoy the damn music you crybabies.
I've got a really hard life right now and seeing this video pop up in my feed my day so much better. I have a hell of a lot of respect for you Ed and you always teach me how to be a better version of myself
Imagine being that kind of a creepy man to tell a young girl to get shot.
Toblerone changed? That's how much attention I pay to the world...
And good point about the bullies. It's kinda like how metal elitists go out of their way to hate on core music when there are already people making fun of the extreme music genres as a whole, metal, core, hardcore, etc.
Now that I have a proper full time job I completely relate to that intro sequence. Every day is basically a repeat of that haha.
I came up with your channel by chance, and must say is one of the best videos I haver never seen arround here, the respect you have just shared is just admirable! i am not into metal music but love the image though, as well as love lot more images and styles, but unfortunatelly very few people respect that, thank you for this video indeed. greetings from spain!!
I agree with you in every point. If they like the design let them wear it. I don't care if they listen to the music or not. Heck I found a band I really like because they had an awesome shirt on sale.
And for the crybabies worrying about the important issue of shirts just get a sense of reality. There are things far more important.
Glad you are doing well and looking forward to the next video.
fr there are some bands that i got into because i wanted to get their shirt lmao
In my opinion If you don't like/listen to the band you shouldn't wear the merch. You can wear it but why rep stuff you don't like? I'm really conflicted with this topic, Like my display picture. I've never played Penumbra:Black plague but I really like the art. I'm going to just let people be people lol.
Sasorine repurposing clothing is a big part of the metal/punk aesthetic.
My wife buys me a new maiden shirt every time she finds one I don't have. Best wife ever
I agree, Ed. Live and let live. Just hope Maiden and the others are making money of H&M. But...I would never wear a shirt I can't stand for.
the best part about this video ed, is that when you threw all your shirts out of the closet, i thought to myself that it would be a major pain in the ass to have to fold them back up, the wrap up bit at the end affirmed that i wasn't alone in that thinking
I've always loved your rants.
The way I see it is that those band shirts just serve as another way for people to get into Metal, and the more people I can talk to about the music I love, the better.
The Mjolnir is a religious symbol that us metal heads have adopted.
Yes, because metal heads think it looks cool. Just like these 'normal' people think Metallica shirts look cool even if they know nothing about the band.
+Häijy Velho yes but I would argue that the big majority of metalheads that wear a Mjolnir know what it means and the history behind it. We think it's cool but we are not ignorant of its meaning.
Liviana Dumitru Exactly, I have it tattooed on my arm.
DXP Reviews No. We live it. And if you arent white you shouldnt be wearing it.
Chad Wack no. Anybody can wear what they want so you can fuck off with that racist attitude.
I find it kind of fun, actually, to listen to what non-metalheads have to say about metal music. It is interesting, because you feel like a scary monster in front of innocent villagers; and it's also cool to let other people try to interpret you and your music from their own perspectives. It can be an enriching experience. I say people who suffer and get all mad about "outsiders" getting in touch with the metal world (however superficially), should instead see the whole thing as I do: it is actually interesting to meet with different opinions. That's it. Let them get in touch with our beloved music (or scene) however they want, and instead of arguing with them, let them talk and analyse what they have to say. For instance, I once saw a funny video where a metalhead interviewer visited the grounds of a Justin Bieber concert and started asking random Bieber fans what they knew/thought about metal music. Well, there are two possible reactions to such a video: (1) the dramatic reaction, where you'd start arguing and getting all mad about it, and (2) the better reaction, where you'd sit back and enjoy what people have to say (because you'll surely find some of those things really amusing!). So, chill out, metalheads! lml
Just wanted to say congrats on Ali moving over, that's so awesome and I wish you the best! I'm heading over from Norway to spend christmas with my boyfriend in Ireland so I share in the excitement of that time.
i got bullied a HELL of a ton by "Metal heads " at my school cause one day i came in wearing a tupac shirt and the next day i came in wearing a Cannibal corpse shirt, plus i'm a big guy to, i'm not traumatized by this, because i am a grown up and i am mature enough to realize i don't have to see these people ever again. i am now bass player of a new formed band called Bittersweet Deceased. people like this need to just get past it and realize that by holding onto what they said about them gives them more power on how you run your life.
Took the words right of my mouth.
Here are my thoughts on the whole situation. I never bought a bandshirt if I didn't like the band. Just because I don't want to deal with that bullshit conversation you spoke of.
A: "Hey, nice shirt. Whats your favorite album?"
B: "Ehh I just bought because the cool design."
A: "Ohhh my god, here we go!"
For example there was that one shirt with a zombiefied Pikachu and this bands logo above it. I knew the band and didn't like it. I like zombies and I fucking love pokemon, I just don't like the band. Needless to say I was tempted to buy it but decided against it. That is because of my personal rule: "Don't like the band, don't wear the shirt (although the design is awesome)."
The only problem with non metalheads wearing bandshirts I have and with problem I mean minor inconvenience, is that bandshirts are often a conversationstarter among metalheads. I might ask someone with a Testament shirt about their favorite album to get a conversation going and when they answer "Oh, I just bought it for the looks." Things might get awkward and I walk away like "Okay, nevermind."
But that's the worst that can happen, you either find another topic to talk about or again, walk away and get on with the day. People who flip out on that topic are one of two things, if not both.
1: They take Metal waaaay too seriously.
2: They're fucking mental.
The same can be said about some metalheads and the genre subject. A newcommer calls Slayer a Death Metal band and everyone around that person is ready to crucify him. We all had no idea about metal at some point and bought stuff because of their looks. Hell, I bought my first three albums that introduced me to metal by the cover art alone. (And Justice for all, Master of Puppets and Kill em All btw.)
Before I ramble on some final words: Some people need to get over themselves.
I agree with you, especially the second part about genres. The other thing I hate is when you say you like a band that's pretty well known, and you get crucified for it because the band's not "kvlt" enough.
If you think about it, it's actually a good thing these people buy the shirts that don't like it
1) More money to the metal music industry
2) They (hopefully) won't go to the concerts even though they don't actually like the music.
Haven't watched the video yet but my opinion is that "It's your right to be able to wear whatever shirt you want, however it is also within my right to ridicule the fuck out of you"
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should (or shouldn't)..
Just because you do things, doesn't mean they won't have consequences
Your intros always crack me up. :D
Outros also! XD
Edvardius Glad you like it man, I love some humor in the videos 😉
Again, people need to mind their own business when it comes to other peoples lives. I give zero fucks about what people wanna wear, color their hair, wear makeup, face paint, jewelry, fashion, music, tv, etc.... People like things because they like things. Have fun in the USA! Happy holidays to you and Ali my friend!! Happy for you to know you'll be able to spend time with her full time, brother. You earned that happiness!! Buddha bless you both!
I absolutely love your video. We went through this in the punk scene in the 90’s. I totally agree with you. All the energy wasted on this anger is absurd.
Metal heads and punks just want to preserve their cultural signifiers without having to come up with new ones. I think cultural symbology is an important part of music and fashion. Creativity is also very important. When a scene feels it’s signifiers have been diluted it’s not a reason to get angry. It’s a call to be creative and innovate/come up with new ways to present the music and fashion.
Great video!!!
I don't go crazy over the fact that they wear the shirts but I does bug me a bit
My thing is that I get annoyed because I now see the people who beat the shit out of me causing broken bones and stiches back in high school just for liking metal are now posting on fb wearing band shirts saying they look so "cute and edgy".
I never say anything though.
That sounds like a personal problem.
And of course when celebrities carry or wear metal apparel, we need to make assumptions that they're not really into the stuff. But for all we know, they could be really into it, but of course, assumptions are cool man.
I saw a picture of Justin Bieber wearing a Behemoth shirt. But........I thought Bieber was a Christian????????
You can be a Christian and still like Satanic-themed bands. It's just music
ungodlydisfigurement17 Bieber was also wearing a Marilyn Manson shirt AND was actually hanging out with him not too long ago
For me it is just hilarious, i see people that used to bullie me or point on me and say stuff about my shirts and my outfit, and now here they are with an iron maiden t-shirt... time turns things very weird!!!
Hey Ed I gotta tell ya, you nailed this on the fucking spot with precise accuracy!
I especially liked the metal phase that you acted out, very well executed!
Its kinda funny how I've never had to deal with immature behavior from metal-heads when i see them at work, they see me wearing a metal shirt and we chat for however long we chat. though online because they feel safe and anonymous they can let their inhibitions run free and monkey chatter other people like triggered apes.
When I'm at work I meet a lot of people wearing shirts from the band H.I.M, when i talk with them about it they don't know its a band but the logo is cute an I always tell them, definitely listen to there music because its very beautiful....and that's it.
i hope this video gets shared everywhere because people do need to understand what they're making metal look like.
you should do more in between comedic scenes/videos with Baldrick.
Cheers all the way from U.S.A \m/
Hey Ed!
Even iets anders.
Alright, genoeg romantiek, tijd voor metal :P See ya!
I just saw Metalsucks post about this same girl on Instagram tonight. You should have seen those comments. Holy shit.
Sheldon Korcal Metalsucks is the biggest pile of steaming shit out there..
@@InfidelAmsterdam I did not bother reading the article they posted. I read some comments. One of them saying something like "can we get her name so we can bully her into suicide".
Lol imagine thinking it's okay to comment shit like "Can we get her name so we can bully her into suicide"
@@loser-ik1xb the fact that you can say anything over a keyboard and behind a screen brings out the worst in people. There are no consequences. It is fucked up that is for sure.
You should see the post Gary Holt just uploaded on instagram about a guy wearing a Slayer t-shirt, who he doesn’t deem a fan... the freaking comments... Even metal fans are complaining about cultural appropiation now
Jonas Thers He did that before on insta. I even got into a major discussion with him called I called him a prick.
But apparently it’s ok to be ‘punchable’ just cause you’re wearing a slayer shirt.
I stand corrected though, that kind of nonsense complaining (which he does a lot) just makes him a prick.
@@InfidelAmsterdam I just looked up the definition of "Prick" and it says:
"Someone who publicly shames someone in front of their thousands of followers due to the person's choice of t-shirt and encourages violent and hateful comments aimed at said person"
So I would say that you have a pretty strong case!
I'm not offended by it, it just pisses me off as a metalhead because it's almost disrespectful to wear the the band without listening to the band, by not giving the band the respect it deserves. plus it's also a sign of a posers , like the annoying 14 year old girl who thinks she's edgy for liking Nirvana.
Arkham Lovecraft you sound offended to me
@Arkham Lovecraft
I get you and i feel the same way sometimes, but then i have to remember myself how insecure i was at that age. If you are 14, you don’t think about this kind of things, you just want to be a part of the „cool“ people, otherwise school can become hell. Also a 14 year old has not the same amount of assertiveness as a 30 year old, it comes with life experience and with independence.
Arkham Lovecraft fuck respect. You mean disrespectful like showing a mutilated corpse?
That's literally being offended.
That news at the end (I won't spoil it), yes! So many congrats! I was hoping to hear that. Very happy for you
Man your face when you speak about Ali, you look so happy. Wish you the best for this christmass man!
Also, no duck sounds anymore? :c Great video, totally agreed
I don’t like it when they wear the shirts, but jeez you don’t need get shot over that shit, what is this Compton?
Saw a guys wearing a slayer tshirt didnt know who they were so I recommend some albums showed a couple of songs and he seemed to be intrigued.
Wished I started listening to metal before, I was into punk in my teen years, now that I'm older lol I really love it and wished I was part of it back then, I guess timing is perfect idk but I'm glad I can listen to it now.
I can't call myself a trve metalhead though cuz I like diff types of music but I do have a Slayer hoodie and the first time I went out with it this guy saw me with a giggling face xD I felt weird, I guess cuz I don't look exactly metal ish (someone told me I'm into kpop cuz of my dyed red hair 😂) he thought I was a poser buuuut I love Slayer and other bands too, specially thrash and death and i deff want some more hoodies and t-shirts yet i know I'll be observed haha
Why do i feel like I've seen this before...
I wear tracksuits. There are people who say that i am not metal cuz of goddamn addidas traksuits i feel comfortable in and i like how they look. It is kinda same thing.
so you're slav, i assume
@@antcommander1367 yes lol
I hate people who use band shirts as a “trend” or whatever. I only get band shirts if I like at least one of the bands albums
That Bio-Cancer poster is fucking rad! Glad to see you back, I was wondering when you would make another video. :)
I used to be a regular watcher several years ago and I must say you've become noticeably more charismatic since then. Keep up the good work.
Hey ed! ive followed you since your q&a 4 video (havnt left many comments though), but i would like you to hear that the quality of your videos have improved alot! both entertainment wise and also your english. sounds very natural and smooth nowadays:) i hope you keep going for a while! :) cheers from sweden!
FaithUnframed Thanks! Glad to see you're still here after such a long time 😉
It's exactly the same thing as the whole "you can't be a Metalhead if you have short hair", that you also addressed quite a while back which is why I knew that you would have a similar view on this, great video on this subject.
I agree with you dude. I will admit it can be a bit annoying when you see someone wearing a shirt of a band you like but then they don't really know the music sometimes but it also is way to start to educate them about it. I've also had people come up to me while I was wearing MCR's Black Parade shirt with the skeleton drum major and was called a poser because they assumed I just bought it to be trendy. Just let people live.
Thank. You. So. Freaking. Much. To be honest, I thought you'd jumped on that bandwagon screaming bloody murder. I am so glad you didn't - and on a more important note: your counter arguments are true GOLD (e.g. cargo pants)! I wasn't aware this being a big "issue" in the metal community until I saw this whole show on bangerTV some days ago. Rihanna wearing a Slayer shirt. Big whoop -.- Greetings from germany :)
I’m new to your channel and you really opened my mind about this topic. I used to hate people wearing bandshirts while they don’t listen to it. But I let it go.
I love this guy! Great to watch all your videos man.
That's great to hear about Aly man! Happy for you.
Glad you're back! I really missed your videos.
I am the most simpled dressed girl in my group. I rarely wear band shirts. and I am recognizable for being a metalhead/ rockchick.
I don't give a fuvk about who's wearing what.
Everybody should just take their heads off their asses!
Personally i love the fact that these shops are selling metal shirts. Cheap metal shirts are a nice break from the usual £20 t shirts. Also, I saw an awesome And Justice For All t shirt on the H&M site...
YEAAAHHHHHH, INFIDEL'S BACKKKKK
btw, we kind of make fun out of this because a member of our band bought a tshirt from iron maiden while he doesnt listens to it a lot, but he wanted a metal tshirt and we havent kiked him out or anything, but it was still funny to "needle" him about being a posser and stuff
Totally agree with you on this point Ed. Also for these people, wearing the slayer, metallica shirts, it's just a trend for them and they will have moved onto something else next month for fuck sake. I know I will be still wearing my shirts LONG after this fashion trend dies out.
EDIT: I just got to the end of the video and you made my exact point. Nice one Ed!!!
You have really good points there Ed, and I think your comparison to mjölnirs, and 666's etc. is very accurate, because it is exactly the same logic. However, the reason, or at least one of the reasons why I think people are like "You shouldn't wear a t-shirt of a band you don't listen to" and react the way they do is because metal has always been an "outsider" thing. People who usually really get into metal are the misfits and outcasts in school etc. and they are the ones who "normal people" don't understand or accept, but then when they find metal, they usually find like-minded people that accept them and this often sparks this "Fuck the mainstream/normal people, I'm a metalhead" mentality, and you actually become proud to be something that normal people don't understand , you have your own thing and thus the whole metal lifestyle can become very personal. So now you see these non-metal "normal people" suddenly wearing band t-shirts, among them possibly ones from your favorite bands, and these people that never understood you and from who you distanced yourself suddenly turn your lifestyle, your own thing into a fashion statement and essentially into something mainstream and that's why you get protective and angry and that's why I sort of understand the reaction of some people to this. Now whether or not these reactions are reasonable or rational is a whole another topic... I think not and personally I don't give a fuck if someone who's not a metalhead wears a band t-shirt, because as you said, it's not really the biggest issue in this world and it doesn't affect my life in any way whatsoever. I'm only concerned what I wear or don't wear because that's the only thing that has any effect on my life, not other peoples clothing choices.
Thank you for this video. I think you are an honorable guy! I love Metal since my youth. Had long hair and all that dark fashion stuff. If you would see me, maybe you would think I don
t listen to metal, but thats not what it´s all about. I think it`s cool to see so many kind of persons on concerts and having fun together. If they have a band short or not... Metal is some kind of "spiritual unification" in a moment of collective madness. Have a good time! Greetings from Germany! :)
Thank you for this... the double standard of "do what you want, but be like us" in the metal community boggles my mind.
I agree with you, there are more pressing issues that need to be talked about rather than this petty shit about shirts... It's just a freakin shirt.
There are people in 3rd world countries wearing misprinted shirts. I personally would rather dress more "fashionable" however, instead I wear metal shirts all the time because I can't help but spend all my "clothes money" on band merch.
About that "these are the kind of people who bullied us in school" thing. These metalheads generalize the whole fashion industry, but probably also complain about how they are generalized as emos and school shooters, pretty hypocritical.
I personally see a small issue with wearing metal shirts as a non metal people. And that is that sometimes it is easy to see who i have a common interest with based on their band shirt, that way i can choose weather i want to spend the time introducing myself, wearing band shits you don't listen to kind of ruins that. However this is an extremely small problem, and i really don't care all that much about it. So even though there is that minor annoyance i don't give a shit if someone is wearing a slayer shirt they know nothing about. This issue mostly arises when i am in a group of people that i have to be around. I don't just go up to random people on the streets and ask them about slayer.
It also has the advantage that more hot women are wearing metal shirts, I find that style of dressing quite attractive, so even though they are not metal, it makes them more pleasing to my eyes, which is a good thing obviously.
It does annoy me. Mainly because when I was a younger metal head back in the 90s the bullying towards those of us that are 'alternative' was very harsh. And now the 'cool kids' think it's great to wear metal wear....just doesn't make sense to me.
I'm not offended when i see someone wearing a band shirt, but it hurts when that someone doesn't even know that that shirt represents a band, and it really helps if that person is afraid of metalheads or even is disgust by them (us). Every band shirt that i own (which is sadly not too many of them) it represents a part of me, and when i see a metalhead wearing the same shirt as me i feel like ''you feel me bro''. So I wouldn't say that i feel offended, i feel sad because those people don't have that passion. But again they are advertising a band that I like so that's kinda nice :D
Hee,
heb me net geabonneerd vandaar de late reactie.
love the vids
Greetz and rock on \m/
i like your channel, your perspective and your beard that i always wanted but can't get. just watching a couple of your video and every topic relate to every metal community around the world, because here where i live there's a same case as you mention every video i've watched so far.
that intro was Fucking awesome! I don't dress like most metal heads band shirts now and then but I look like a normal guy and it does surprise people when they hear my music :edit new sub nice rant completely agree
Personally I'd rather see a Metallica t-shirt on a chav Kanye West. To me metal is personal thing and I don't force it on others.
And here we are a couple years later and he wears the infamous Vestal Masturbation shirt...
I hate it when I can't find a band t shirt that the band doesn't print it anymore. It just annoys me when I want an old-school album band t shirt but the band has moved on from that album and don't have them anymore. stay metal!
Made me think of this issue from a new perspective... Never unimpressed with your videos, Ed!
The end of the video made me laugh cause I was actually thinking that same exact thing while you where throwing all of the shirts. I was like " I don't know about this, bro that's a lot of folding to do" XD
You are such and intelligent and mature guy, always glad to hear you. Congratulations for Ally and best wishes for you both.
