Wood needs updated yes, and hardware, but good quality hard wood furniture never really to me is out of style.........all depends on how you want to decorate or use it. This is awesome. Keep going on entertaining us........love love you both and what you are doing here with all of your ideas and offerings! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

That is perfect whatever technique and stain, you should be doing that type of work on all of your pieces like you should never put paints on any of them. I think always restoring the wood and trying to make it a little more modern is the best way to sell the piece. I think people are looking for unique and real. When you paint it, it takes away from the earthin and the richness of the piece wood

  • @jojoolson

love your stuff! why not use a finish remover on this? Something like QCS? is it just too messy and you like sanding better?

You can bleach red oak with solution hydrogen peroxide 30% and lye. It makes top layer of the red oak just like white oak. I did with several of my pieces. That is instead of painting it. The color of the wood will be much more natural.

I have a circa 1980 oak coffee table. I bought it unfinished, and stained and oiled it myself. I'm so proud of it and I love it still. BUT every time you do a paint wash on an old oak piece, I get a little closer to refinishing my coffee table. The problem is I'm afraid I'll get started than abandon the project if it gives me any problems.

After doing this for years now, you should know that dresser goes for $200-$300 to the bottom-feeding crowd on Facebook. $600 is what retail customers pay for the new stuff at Ashley's. Sanded-down 1980s used goes for $250 on Facebook and they try and get you to take $200.
Is this all that's left? Refinishing dressers every two days? But now you have a full retail store to pay for and insurance, utilities and employees? Wait until you don't sell a thing in all of January. I give it max a year and you're tired of being broke.
