- i-stop improves fuel economy, reduces emissions and also reduces idling noise when the vehicle is stopped. Learn about the specific conditions under which i-stop automatically turns the engine off while the vehicle is stationary, and then restarts the engine to resume driving.

Jam the cancelation button in by wedging something into the side of the button after you've pushed it. I have not had to worry about it since. Every time you start the car it will register that it's been pushed. When it becomes time for my CX-5 battery to be replaced I'll install a SUPERCHARGE GOLD PLUS MF75D25L. It's suited for standard and i-stop cars. The amount you save on fuel with i-stop is outweighed 100 fold by the extra battery specific and starter motor costs. Hope this helps.
That is such a stupid thing to do. Why mess with it?
Many manufacturers have installed more robust batteries and starters to cope with these issues.
I would expect that the fuel savings would not buy me a new battery indeed... Unless I have the AC and heating off, in which case the battery doesn't take a big hit.
But it's nice to know that people living at intersections will live longer, with the fumes in the air reduced.
I love my new Mazda 3, but hate the istop function, Mazda should allow the driver to switch the function off permanently until the system is switched ON again by the driver.
The i-stop OFF button turns it off... as you would expect.

I agree with you. I also hate i-stop on my Mazda CX5. The engine turns off all the times I stop the vehicle at the traffic lights or junctions
@@catalinzota1958 have you tried pressing the brakes lighter when at the traffic light? In theory it should not engage i-stop then.
@@stanislavdimitrov8800 of course, I know that but when you're stopping in a downhill, for example, in order to stop the car properly and avoid any unwanted movement, you have to press the brake pedal a bit stronger; in this particular case is when i-STOP is activated

If someone says, the iStop doesn't use the starter to restart the car after the iStop turns it off, they're lying. The starter still aids in the restart at the traffic light or stop sign, etc.. IMHO, the iStop puts added wear on the engine at every restart before the oil is pumped back into the engine from the oil pan. There's also more wear on the starter and the battery. Saying different wouldn't be rational.
Totally agree. I wonder what numpty got paid a small fortune to think up this useless add on.
The engine is still covered in a layer of oil a long time after being stopped. The starter and battery are heavy duty and don't break easily. Though yes, they are more expensive.

@@fifagodmcjuggernuggets3411 no it doesn't disable it indefinitely but when I'm driving around the city I do get a lot better gas mileage depending on how long I'm just sitting at traffic lights or road works but it's not a problem to me to just press and hold the button for 1 second to disable it every time I start the engine after a while it becomes like second nature just to disable it its a good feature if your stopping at traffic lights alot I personally don't mind it but it is down to personal preference and wear and tear on the starter moter
@@davidbray6515 there are conditions needed for the I start to function one is having the ac turned on to the lowest setting can you confirm this?

It doesn’t use the starter it just squirts fuel in the engine and uses the spark plugs to continue the engine
I HATE the Istop it is very annoying and serves no function as the alleged fuel savings are negated by the cost of replacing the the Starter motor etc I have had a 2017 2018 2019 Mazda, but they need to listen to their buyers and have an option to turn the stupid thing off permanently not just every time I start up????
It does not use the starter motor...
The I Stop function can be eliminated without to much trouble...One has to simply pop the bonnet and relocate the micro switch that is in behind the bonnet latch ...Just remove the small screw that holds it in place and lay the switch away and cable tie is so as to not get damaged and all will be perfect...Such a relief to have my Mazda as well as my Suburu void of the insane feature ....My cars now assume the bonnet is open when infact it is closed...

Istop does not always work, I hate my Mazda 2. Awful piece of junk.
I think this information is not correct for an automatic, I had to keep my foot on the brake and the engine started when I removed my foot. Somebody need to check their information.....
Really nice features like fuel economy meter etc that we don’t have in USA, but find it odd the AC can’t be in min position for i-stop. I keep my AC at min to increase engine stops but I also have a Chevy, not a Mazda
I've heard this technology described as bullshit technology & some hate it & find it annoying & apparently hard on the engine too..lots of wear & tear with so much stopping & starting?

I just bought a 2021 Mazda CX-5, and the salesman told me that the head mechanic at the dealership said, it doesn't have the iStop in the CX-5s in the U.S., but they do have it in the CX-5s in Japan. That's GOOD! Because I hate the iStop. More great news... it has an auto trans, not a CVT trans, and w/ the turbo engine, it doesn't have Cylinder Deactivation. I'm happy all around.
I’m finding it useful because the engine starts immediately you take the foot off the brake.
I hired a Mercedes a few years ago and it was dangerous because there was a second or so lag which is a lot when trying to enter a busy roundabout.
Question: Is it ok to have istop on during slow traffic? To stop for 20 seconds and start again the stop again for about 5 seconds or so and start again then stop for 10 seconds and start again. Is that still ok for the engine to go on and off over and over again in such short period of time? Thanks.
No it is not OK. It is hurting engine of your car. Try to find a way to disable it permanently, there are some.
No. It is totally fine, especially at long traffic waits. You will be happy about it in the long run. Also, Mazda doesn't use an electric motor to restart it, rather a piston, so no issues there. The system is great and more efficient. I know this because I own the 2019 Mazda CX-5 which has it too, and I have driven it with and without the system on. There is a big good difference in the long run, in terms of gas.
Most systems are set up so if a minimum amount of time hasn't passed since the last shutdown, it won't activate stop/start.
I do not like istop function that will stop for a few second and then resume engine operation again which will not make sense. If the engine will stop for 2 second, the system shall ignore the pause engine mode. This is useful when it turns pretty low temp aircon and low fan and pause engine for 1 mins. Mazda shall fix this software to have the minimum engine pause 30 sec prior to restart of the engine.

I-stop has to be one of the most useless and infuriating pieces of crap ever thought up. If your car is new it shouldnt have an idling noise because motors are so quiet these days (unless you have V8) but to say it improves fuel economy and reduces emissions is just plain ridiculous. Not only that you have to have a special battery - which costs more than a normal battery, to run this useless add on as well as it constantly having an error and flashing orange on the dash. If I had known this before buying a Mazda I would not have bought it.
It does improve fuel economy by stopping the engine instead of having it idle. Is that too hard for you to process?

I have the CX30 touring Mazda, I bought it new, and I found that if you lift the hood or bonnet you can disconnect the stop-start by sliding a wire along that is buy the catch that opens the bonnet, you don't need to take the wire off completely, this will disconnect the terminal, my Mazda is the 2023 model and I did this in April, The wire is under a plastic cover you just pull the cover off with your fingers gently and you will see the wire, you don't need any tools, I don't take any responsibility if something goes wrong, my Mazda does not have any trouble with the stop-start disconnected. Most Mazda dealers will say that you can't disconnect the stop-start switch it is more BS from the dealers. Thank you, Google for helping solve this problem.

Battery warranty for Istop vehicle is half that for non Istop. Also at 2nd service the dealer will tell you that the battery will need replacement, even if you don’t use the Istop.

Doesn’t use the starter at all. Stops at TDC of combustion cycle. Then fires the spark to turn back on. No worse fo the engine at all.
@God_Laughs _At_Atheists I saw a John Cadogan video address those issues, he says if the engine is warm, wear upon startup is minimal, and the oil doesn't drain out of the moving parts significantly until at least a few minutes have passed. As far the engine not having oil, an engine endures a cold start millions of times in its life, and it still lasts a long time if you properly maintain it.

It's nice, but from the service point of view starting stopping and starting over and over again will reduce the life of the starter. Save fuel or car starter, your choice.
Starter will not being used when starting on i-Stop, instead all piston will be in same position & fuel and spark will be supplied to one of cylinder at the same time ignite to start the engine.
No, it does not reduce the starter life. I have heard it is a different type of starter. One that can take all the starting without wearing it out.

I was about to check the CX30.Upon learning that this i stop feature is part of this vehicle, I change my mind right away and stop going to the dealership.I will be looking for my other car options.
