    Fun fact after this, Snow implemented prize money for victors of the games as well as the victor houses
    One reason for this was to make it so victors were elevated above their fellow peers to make them despised or ostracized
    But the money prize helps district 1 and 2 to develop the career schools, where they teach kids to survive the games giving them the highest advantage
    That is why district 1 and 2 are the richest districts other than the capital
    And why they are furiously devoted and loyal to the capital
    Come the modern games

    Snow didn’t care for Lucy Gray. He thought that she belonged to him and saw her as his possession. That wasn’t adapted from the book very well, but if you read a few pages of it, you’ll get a good idea of what Snow’s inner dialogue and thoughts were really like. Another thing that is missed from the movie is Snow’s HATRED for Mockingjays. A Jabberjay and Mockingbird mated to create the Mockingjay and he thought they were abominations. He even tried to get the “peacekeepers” to kill all of the Mockingjays in District 12. Decades later the Mockingjay would come back to haunt him as a symbol of the rebellion with Katniss.
    Edit: Another thing, if you rewatch Mockingjay Part 1, when Katniss and the Rebellion start singing the Hanging Tree song, Snow says “that’s not possible”. This is because the 10th games and every record of Lucy Gray was erased. Or at least that’s what Snow thought. It turns out her songs lived on in District 12, and once again came back to torment Snow.

    • @jdbarber13
      @jdbarber13 8 месяцев назад +6

      In the book they never aired the propo of her singing the Mockingjay. They use it to show Peeta after he was hijacked because they mentioned it was never aired. He didn't freak out after seeing it and remembered the song from when Katniss's father sang it. He specifically mentioned how all the birds fell quiet to listen to him.
      Also in the books Lucy only performed it once at a party and it was then banned immediately afterwards bc of the content.

    25:56 Before Katniss and Peeta won, District 12 only has two victors, the least among the districts. It was mentioned in the first book during the reaping that District 12 only has two victors and only one is living, Haymitch is the only living victor. They didn’t mention any name or gender about the first victor, it was completely unknown until this book revealing that it was Lucy Gray. The first 10 hunger games are not mandatory and Dr. Gaul deleted all the copy of the 10th Hunger Games because it is a disaster (rebel bombing, few tributes died before the games, and Snow’s cheating). That’s why Lucy Gray is completely forgotten and it is a mystery what really happened to her.

    Lucy was wearing the hunger games dress when snow “shot” her, so it was probably just an hallucination due to the snake bite. Lucy at that point didn’t feel like she could trust him anymore and probably dipped out to the north and never came back to district 12. But in the end, no matter what truly happened to her, the ghost of her existence, the “betrayal” and the things she knows about Snow will always haunt him from that point forward, and he never allowed himself to love anymore, hence why he made sure to marry someone he didn’t love.

    • @jrlombardi5251
      @jrlombardi5251 8 месяцев назад +9

      Lucy Gray wasn't wearing her games dress when she was shot, some thought they saw that and spread in the internet, which started to be said by a ton of people that wanted to believe she was still alive, in addition to them thinking she was wearing orange on the top and once they didn't see it when she was shot they got to that conclusion BUT NO. If you check she literally isn't in her rainbow dress, she's on the same clothes she had that day and the reason why her top looks different it's bc she wasn't wearing orange, she just had the orange scarf Snow gave her over her body, so ofc we can see what she had under that once she abandons the scarf, but it still isn't her rainbow dress nor even her corset from that dress.
      Also, this could never be possible for a number of reasons.
      1. The finale is literally made for us to never know what happened, making something as clear as Lucy Gray wearing a completely different thing to what she was wearing that day to show she wasn't there when he shot would be a confirmation that she can't be dead, which is the opposite of what the author say the finale is.
      2. The bite of the snake couldn't produce such hallucination bc the book confirms the snake wasn't poisonous. His hallucinations (her singing) are the consequence of him falling to madness once he doesn't know if he actually killed her for real when she meant so much to him or if she run away after him trying when she's the one that can screw up everything for him.
      3. When Snow goes to where she fell when he shot, he finds an accessory from her and keeps it in his pocket, that's clearly not a hallucination (amd if the whole point would have been him hallucinating with her in her rainbow dress to show she wasn't there then we would have got some accessory she had when she had her rainbow dress on, not something she never had while wearing that) and actually proof she was there, she did fall there when he did shot her, even if she walked more, the point is that we don't know if it was a shot that would kill her eventually or if she could survive, we don't what happened with her footprints, we don't know where she or at least her body is, it's a mystery, that's the whole point, we'll never know what happened there bc that's the point and nothing will reveal it to us bc such thing doesn't exist bc it doesn't have to.

    Re reaper: SOME BOOK SPOILERS
    he actually had a better death in the books imo. They messed with some of the deaths and the orders for the films, naturally.
    I forget the specifics, but essentially, Reaper contracted rabies from jessup earlier at some point, so the whole games hes kinda being erratic. He collects the tributes bodies as they die throughout the games, not all at once. He also refuses to eat or drink anything the capitol sent him. As a result, near the end of the games when it's only him and Lucy left, he's dying of disease and unknowingly drinks water out of a puddle Lucy poisoned earlier. He slowly makes his way to his memorial site and manages to cover half his body in the flag before dying.
    I like this version because I think there's just so much meaning in how he covers himself.

    In the book, Lucy makes a comment that no one seems to remember, she says the youngest of the Covey, Maude Ivory, could memorize a song she has only heard once. "The Hanging Tree" song was performed at the Captain's birthday celebration and was henceforth banned. The captain liked it, but it showed rebellion.
    It's my personal opinion that Maud was Katniss' paternal grandmother. She taught her son all those songs and he taught his daughter.

    i can't help but also feel bad for the other tributes like coral and also cato from the first movie. i mean, obviously they're all enemies in the arena and they have their more aggressive/lethal tactics, but they don't really have a choice. they're just doing what the capitol is forcing them to do, and we've already seen the punishments for refusing to play along with their games. nobody ever wins in the hunger games.

  • @lowkeyproductions6681
    @lowkeyproductions6681 8 месяцев назад +3

    I think with Snow, he didn’t start off caring about the tributes, he just was desperate to win and his main strength was people skills so that’s why he was the only one showing up at the train station. Which led him to developing a connection and eventually a crush with Lucy Gray. So by the times the Games began, he did care about her. But only her, and it was very **convenient** that coincided with his own needs, which Dean Highbottom brought up. It’s at the end, when Lucy Gray’s survival actually conflicts with Snow’s own needs, that he shows his true colors. Which is exactly the opposite of what happens at the end of the first Hunger Games movie - Peeta offers Katniss the chance to live and go home to her family by killing him, and Katniss refuses. Snow is a selfish person, who needs order and control in order to feel safe. He thinks love is a weakness, but for Katniss it is a strength.
    The one who really is a good person, who empathizes with the tributes from the beginning, is **Sejanus**, but honestly I think that was something the movie kind of bungled up. They didn’t quite capture their dynamic from the book of Sejanus’s compassion and Snow constantly perceiving him as weak for it, particularly in the Capitol scenes. They also bond a LOT while in District 12, which makes Snow’s betrayal even more gut-wrenching. It’s up there as one of the saddest deaths of the series for me (maybe the fourth saddest).

    I watched the movie recently and it was a great adaptation, I mean it wasn’t perfect but it definitely lived up to the level of a hunger games movie! The acting was phenomenal, Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth outdid themselves!! The costumes, songs and set were amazing too, it also seemed nostalgic, I felt like I was back when The hunger games movies came out 🫶🏻 HOWEVER, there were some negatives, the most obvious one is that the movie couldn’t show the viewers Snow’s inner monologue, which I get it they couldn’t in that sense, but they also changed a few details in the movie that gave Snow credit for things that weren’t his ideas and if adapted exactly how they happened in the book they would’ve given the viewers so much insight on some characters especially Snow’s character and what he actually thinks and the fact that he is opportunistic, it was actually a missed opportunity and I don’t know why they changed those details, but overall it was a great movie and I will definitely watch it again!!
    Here are some of the changes they did between the movie and the book:
    - Lucy and the tunnels of the arena (She got the idea on her own, Snow didn’t go before a day and see the tunnels and tell her to go there)
    - Sejanus and the feeding of the tributes (Sejanus actually got the idea on his own too, he went to the zoo with a bag full of sandwiches to feed the tributes)
    - Arachne’s death and how Snow reacted (He kept looking at the scene and didn’t move until Lucy told him to, and he looked at the cameras first and then went to Arachne- he just cared that the cameras were recording)
    - Snow and the handkerchief with the snakes (he thinks it’s possible that they will put the snakes in the arena and he says “his hand slipped” when putting the handkerchief in the tank in the elevator, he was before that in Dr Gail’s office and he noticed the whole thing by coincidence)
    - Clemensia and Snow scene (they didn’t know what was going to happen when they put their hands in the tank and Clemesnsia returns later in the movie and has a few scenes that were important in my opinion)
    - When they were in the cabin (in the book she doesn’t say his thoughts, however she vocalizes his thoughts in the movie but really it does not go with her character to say that she’s the last loose end)
    - He already decided that he wanted to kill her before he exits the cabin and not when he enters the woods and gets bitten by a snake.
    - They never mentioned the deleting of the 10th hunger games (no more evidence, Dr Gaul deleted everything and there was a whole paragraph that snow though that should’ve been included, it’s about how everyone will forget Lucy)
    - The ending of the games did not happen (the “get her out” yelling and him caring about her being out of the games, there was no chanting, he was not fighting for her in that moment)

It was important and had its good moments ofc, but we had such long and detailed things about irrelevant things for so long and when the finale came it suddenly stopped being detailed and long and made the biggest things the most rushed ones while all the rest was super long in its narrative and inner monologue for almost nothing many times. That's why I loved what they did in the movie with it, some scenes of Snow training would have made it perfect, but the pacing is much better in the movie, it definitely wouldn't work as a second movie (especially for those that hated that mockingjay was divided). And it's not just me, tons agree the pacing was weird there in the book and I don't get bored easy as I never got bored with Mockingjay even when majority of the fandom says it has boring parts that made it difficult for them to go through them.

    I would just like to preface I mean no disrespect to people who disagree with me, since books are all about interpretation. Also, spoiler alert.
    Snow's character was done extremely well in this movie and I think it wasn't possible to do it better. In the books, his inner monologue is disturbing at times, but on other instances he shows deep care about Lucy Gray and even doubts about the Capitol and the Games. He was unpredictable, with good and evil thoughts interchanging drastically. This was shown through his unpredictable actions in the movie, like loving Lucy Gray one day and betraying his friend the other. There was no way to show his ethics pendulum that was swinging in all directions possible.
    Some people like to say that the movie didn't show how narcissistic and borderline immoral he is at times, but I don't believe he was like this in the books either. Sure, he was questionable, but he was also a underage young man, an orphan with a traumatic past who probably had some sort of anxiety disorder/paranoia. He was moldable, a blank sheet swinging the wrong way and adults in his life, like Dr. Gaul took advantage of that and manipulated him into doing and thinking things he would have never done (example being sending him into the arena and taunting him about the thoughts about why they needed the games).
    His character is absolutely amazing and while it is a shame he swung the wrong way and chose to become an evil dictator, he was ultimately a teenager who was in love at one point. The nuance somehow makes his actions explainable, but even less excusable since he knew what love is and chose to be evil and kill children anyway. That's the true beauty of the book and this movie, how even seemingly normal people can be swayed by hunger for power and faulty ideologies and end up doing horrible things in the end.

      It's not the movie's fault, people just ignore a ton of things. I have seen many who have read the book say Snow was good at the start or that it was all Lucy Gray's fault, it's just them, not the content.
      I have seen reactors hear Snow say he hates people from the districts just bc they're from there, help the games to continue, make the games a fun show to even bet and get excited for one to survive and say murder makes him feel powerful... and them just saying after all that that he's a super nice and likeable person

      I really don’t think it’s the movie’s fault…I think they did an amazing job, because we also kind of see him from the POV of others… I read the book before I watched the movie and I had sympathy for him…. I never thought he was a saint, don’t get me wrong, but the start of his story makes you feel a bit sorry for him (in a same way I felt sorry for Kato by the end of the first one for example) because at first he is forced to be tough and is raised and nurtured into cruelty… so you don’t want to believe that this is his nature… I wanted to believe Lucy Gray’s point about us all being born with natural goodness inside, so I was hoping that he could stay on the good side (even though I knew he wouldn’t and despite the very very clear signs that showed otherwise)

    if you watch the hunger games and are rooting for any of the kids to be murdered then you miss the entire point of the story and are no better than the captial... they are all victims. they are the ultimate proof against people like gaul and snow's ideology. humans are not innately evil murderers. these kids never would have killed each other if they weren't forced into that arena and explicitly told the only way out is to be the only survivor. the careers and coral prove that. "i couldn't have killed them all for nothing". she just wanted to survive. they are all under 18. the capital just wants a spectical and so many viewers of these movies don't even realize they are acting just like the capital.. asking for more games, rooting for these children's deaths

    He never cared, never. He is twisted and cruel from the start, from the first page. This is more clear in the books. Once you are in his head you hate him even more.

    So a couple interesting notes in case ya didn’t catch this, there is a theory that Dr Gaul set off those bombs, the early days of the games were really fast and barely any of the tributes would be left, Lucy gray did escape and did disappear but forever haunted snow especially when katniss was introduced and when she sang her songs, her bow, hee being a performer and charming the districts, lucy gray was the one person who touched snow’s heart and then lost control of her and she escaped hin and he wasn’t able to ever do anything about it, the song can’t catch me now describes this perfectly!
