I have never played a turn-based game, however this one made me fall in love with it, after playing it for several hours it's like genshin isn't good enough, I don't know how to explain it
Thanks for the video, it was truly helpful! As a huge fan of Himeko, I plan on maining her. I’m currently playing her alongside Pela, Bailu and Asta/Dan Heng.
So far, I have a team composed of the Trailblazer Trio (MC, M7 & DH) and Himeko. It works for me since the follow up attks helps ping the enemy's health. Whatever works for your playstyle matters as well. Thanks for the guide!
Of all the Honkai Star Rail vids that I've watched for building a team. This is the one that made more sense. Thank you sooooo much. Such a life saver.
His damage is also really surprisingly good. He’s definitely better at single target damage, making him a pseudo-hunt character while also giving everyone in the party more turns. Despite both being level 50 with a 4* level 40 light cone, he’s out-damaging Himeko’s ult on 5 enemies with just his skill.
Personally my favourite team for now is Welt/Selvar/Tingyun/Natasha Welt is great for breaking weakness and bounding enemies, Tingyun generally helps with both buffs and survival, by charging Nat's Healing. Tho she herself is very squishy.
Once you get Gepard up to level 40-50 you can get a trace on him that makes enemies target him a lot more which will build his ult, and as well if you manage to get lucky and pull just his FIRST eidilon, his skill gets 100% chance to freeze, which I feel is pretty huge to consider.
i’m really hoping to get Bronya as my guaranteed 5 star from the departure warp!! she seems like a really good buffer for a variety of team comps and will be future-proof for a while… as for a main DPS i’m currently saving all my special passes and stellar jade for when Jing Yuan debuts! i wasn’t in any of the closed betas so idk if this team will have good synergy lol but my dream team rn is Jing Yuan, Bronya, Asta or Tingyun, and Natasha! 🥰✨
Keep up the amazing content, your tips are are great I hadn't realized that putting a destruction character between others could be bad. I just organized the team based on aesthetics 😅. I hope they alow you to personalize wich slot is on the background on the future so I can keep on showcasing my favorite chars, but that's just nitpicking
Thanks a bunch for the video! Absolutely love Natasha! Once I tried team with her I knew she will be main-stay right next to MC. Really happy that I pulled her so soon.
Was waiting for this. Been ruminating about my team combos because I want to retain MC as much as possible, but I think I've reached a point where I can be more flexible with the teams I play. Welt and Dan Heng are my mainstays, though. Thanks, Sevy!
So far it's nice seeing a return to classical RPG comps. I think being turn-based and not having iFrames from a dodge mechanic is letting the HSR healers and shielders have more of a presence. Who knows though... that might change in the future and we might have ungabunga sub-DPS characters once again :)
It would depend on how Hoyo designed the enemies. AoEs, multi-hit attacks, special effects, plenty of things healers and shielder can deal with (dead DPS is 0 DPS).
@@dojiz7242 yeah I think that with HSR they'll have an easier time balancing the content and making roles relevant. Genshin struggles a bit with that because too much of the design borrows from action games where healing or tanking isn't necessary and it feels overly oppressive when it becomes necessary.
@@fredxu99 Yep, plus I didn't see any other options for healing mid-battle like Genshin's food pouch (unless they add that later in HSR?), so healers and shielders will still have a place for HP management.
This video has made me realize that even though I made a super tanky team with amazing sustain that I enjoy playing (Clara, March 7th, Gepard and Natasha), it is wiser to diversify my team a bit more. Thanks for the amazing video
Thank! Just started watching and I think this will be helpful for me 😅. I've played HSR since the release and sticked to 1 Tank 1 Healer 1 Harmony to funnel my dps for brute force, And I always wondered why I can't deal any damage 😅. I think this vid is or will be great 🤩!!
Okay, first, a massive, and I mean massive thank you for doing this breakdown. I'm recently new to this game or type of game. I'm having tons of fun. The way you explained everything made since. Did I watch this video 3 times? Yes, I did, and did I take notes? You bet I did. Now I have a good base to go off from when building my teams.
Didn't knew about Destruction / DPS class "hidden taunt"... Only arrange my team so they can look great on the screen (Tall ones being 3rd slot, in the back, while small ones at the front, 2nd slot) Thanks for the info, easy to understand as usual
Great video. I got Yanqing as my free 5 star and got really lucky and got his “weapon” from standard banner after only 20 pulls. Wish I had that kind of luck in Genshin.
so far Ive been finding a lot of success with welt, natasha, pela, and asta. I know there arent any dps characters but they all still deal a pretty consistent amount of dmg and along with the buffs and debuffs it just great to play around
9:40 you are thinking of it in a defensive way the way i thought about it is that if we put clara in the middle if our squishier units do get hit and the enemy does a splash damage so clara is hit as well she will do her follow up attack resulting in more damage
i got bronya from the beginner banner, so im using her, and natasha as my "core", and swapping between herta/serval and dan heng/sushang for weakness coverage as needed
I think I’m pretty happy with my current team of March, Dan Heng, Serval, and Welt. I got this game yesterday but they are doing really well, I plan on replacing serval soon with a healer as Welt is currently doing enough AOE, but the gacha’s been ruthless and the only 5* I got (Welt) was from the beginners pity. I’m getting pretty annoyed with all the light cones piling up in my inventory from the draws that I’ll never use but my next 5* can’t be too far away!
the unit i would love to run is seele and bronya. i really love that they actually work amazingly well together in a team on top of their lore relations. praying to god i get them both !!
@@Cheerwine091 thank you !! i actually just got seele a few days ago, but i'm still trying to get bronya, bc she didn't come in the beginner pulls sadly 😔
Very helpful! Thanks! In between gensgin content and new to hsr. Blessed with some great early characters and in depth gamers content such as yourself to learn. Thanks so much! Namaste and blessings.
I'm having quite a bit of fun with Phys Trailblazer, Dan Heng, Asta and Herta. Dan Heng is pretty much just filling a gap, but the idea is to make Herta say "It's Kuru Kuru time" and Kuru Kuru all over the place xD It doesn't do much for bosses, but it can pulverize mobs. Asta buffs everyone's attack and does decent AoE damage, Phys Trailblazer bridges the damage gap to proc Herta's passive, and Herta herself just goes to town, sometimes even chaining her follow-ups! I'm hoping I can get a friend with Seele, to see if the Asta+Herta combo helps her game plan at all. All the enemies tend to stay at low health when they survive, so it at least seems plausible.
Thank you very much for this Sevy!! I really needed these tips, now I can carry on with the game with an easy mind about elements, classes and team comps. Gonna start right now! ;3
Even though I've heard he isn't great I have been going with a Arlan team. I pulled his Light Cone early so locked him in. Running Asta, March 7th and Welt as well. Welt to slow enemies and delay them, Asta for speed and March to help shield. Gotta make sure Arlan gets low enough but also stays alive to deal the most damage he can. Really enjoying it atm. Starting it hit well over 10K on the right turns with him.
it’s so cool how HSR taps into the pokemon fanbase, i’ve been burnt out since my childhood addiction to pokemon and nothing has been able to recreate the turn based magic like HSR (and octopath traveler)
I really like your content. I cannot imagine how stressful it must be to cover Genshin and Honkai at the same time as a content creator. I mean, it's even stressful to just play both games right now. 😂
Great video as always, thanks! I'm currently running Qingque/Nat/Asta/Herta and it's been pretty smooth sailing. I hope to pull Bailu to swap into Nat's place, because that would be 4 characters I really like (Qingque is one of my 2 favs). My other fav is Pela so I want to figure out a good team with both her and Qingque. I'm only just now learning that having just 3 elements in a team is still fine, which is very relieving to know.
I got really lucky with my pulls and ended up with Bronya (newbie banner), Bailu (lost 50/50), Seele, and Welt (standard). Bronya, Bailu, and Welt have been the core of my party. I swap out Seele, Shushang, and Dan Heng depending on what weakness I need to cover. Bronya and Welt together has been a really good synergy with their ults. Bronya buffs the team’s attack and cdmg, while Welt is an aoe, slows and increases dmg enemies take. Welt also has really good synergy with Dan Heng.
This makes things make SO MUCH MORE SENSE!!! lol I wish I had seen this before I started playing but to be honest I haven't done much because I'm not a gamer and most of this game doesn't make sense to me. I started it because I love Genshin but have been SO confused by this game with the terminology.
I got Bronya but I feel like her best pair is Seele rn since she can take an extra turn and then get buffed and pushed by Bronya again for another extra turn. But I don't have Seele. So I almost feel like Tingyun is a better option for my account. Going with Asta (atk and speed buff), Dan Heng (dmg), Natasha (healing) and Tingyun (Energy refill and dmg buff) feels more optimal and let's me cover 4 elements. Kinda sucks to not use a strong 5 star but it seems better this way for now.
Just started HSR the other day and was struggling with Gepard on World 3 in the Sim Uni. Ofc didn’t have the most efficient team but managed after a few tries to just go Serval, Natasha, March and MC and just slowly but surely survivor Gepard’s phase and tickle his HP away 😂
Thank you so much for the build video!! My current team is destruction/abundance/erudition/nihility, which is Mc/Bailu/Herta/Sampo respectfully. I got lucky and pulled Bailu from the 8x sale on launch and now she carries my team through healing so well that im not really worried about any battle. It seems I've been following your tips by PURE chance and trial/error lol but im happy with what I have. Honkai Star Rail is soooo nice for f2p players that I'll probably continue to be f2p. That being said, though I'd like to try the synergy for Sampo or Herta, being f2p will limit my options. But in a way I kinda like strategizing with the cards I've been dealt ^^ If you are looking for more build content, I'd love a video on allocating correct Relics and Light Cones (because IK I have that wrong haha). Thanks again.
me with my destruction/2xhunt/erudition team trying to end all the enemies before they end me 😎 also wow i had no idea team arrangement also mattered! :0
my team is Welt. Asta, Pela and Natasha. although i dont have a "main" dps, my team usually atacks 3 times before the enemies do and bc of all the debuffs as well they all die before anyone in my team gets atacked, and if they do natasha will just heal them back up Quite a fun team, not sure how it will hold up late game which is what scared me atm ngl
This video makes me realize that you need supports to make your DPS more powerful. At first, I was using 3 DPS and 1 healer namely Serval, Dan Heng, Himeko and Natasha. I struggled clearing the Equilibrium trial. After watching this video, I realize my BIG mistake. Thanks Sevy!
Team 'I am Going First" Put in Welt and Astra in the same team then add high speed characters for your sustain and dps. Start getting so many turns that the enemies can't keep up. Know when to use Welt ult to kick enemies back a turn and when to use breaks to interrupt/knockback enemy turns. With enough damage you kill the enemies sicne you essentially get double turns.
I have pretty much stuck to one type of team ever since I knew of it's existence and while it can be upgraded wit other units, it serves me well enough and that team consists of: Seele, welt, Fire MC and natasha How I would increase this team's damage is by either slotting in bronya (if I get her in the future) or having serval replace welt for AOE lighting damage
Seele gets so many turns and is fast enough that even if he she is technically a Single Target dps she is also good at multi target damage. If she is paired with Bronya, she goes off with Bronya constantly forwarding her turn.
My toxic trait is building all characters at this moment so they can be utilized in different circumstances, and everyone is already leveled up bc i was like “imma be f2p rn since i already spend on genshin” lmao
Since Gepard was my first 5*, I decided to make him work. With light cone i think Laudau's path? He works pretty well since he Is tanky And taking dmg also help him recover his energy. And his passive makes him revive one time if he die. I would say Gepard May be better in later game, but He can also work in the beggining. And when it comes to Hunt unit like Seele, the statement that She as Hunt unit excels in single target seems bit off in my opinion. Since she get another turn when She defeats enemy. Using her in single target scenario with tanky enemy she don't really have use for this passive that Is big source if her dmg. Those Are just things I found out from active playing since launch (lvl 23) And purely my opinion.
Worth noting that beyond character paths, especially for the 5*s they can excel in other team roles. For example, Welt is a debuffer that slows enemies, but also his skill and ult do ridiculously high amounts of damage, even just using a 3 star light cone (the one that increases damage dealt to slowed enemies).
Right now I'm running March 7th, Asta, Dan Heng, and Serval (sometimes switch Asta with Pela, and Serval with MC). I'm pretty early in, just trying not to make the mistake of using too much resources. :)
Natasha and March are the free go to healer/shielder. The game gave me both the five star Bailu and Gepard in my first bunch of special ticket pulls. Now I have no motivation to do anything with the free 4 star elites. I wish the game would drop some of the 5 star dps characters.

yeah healers/shielders are a must in this game unlike genshin where we hated pure healers
I hope more people will come out with videos to help me design my teams. Your video advice was very helpful. I like your genshin videos I always find them really informative so I look forward to content for this game as well
I have never played a turn-based game, however this one made me fall in love with it, after playing it for several hours it's like genshin isn't good enough, I don't know how to explain it
Thanks for the video, it was truly helpful! As a huge fan of Himeko, I plan on maining her. I’m currently playing her alongside Pela, Bailu and Asta/Dan Heng.
I paired my Himeko with Herta. Their follow up attacks kill the enemies faster.
So far, I have a team composed of the Trailblazer Trio (MC, M7 & DH) and Himeko. It works for me since the follow up attks helps ping the enemy's health. Whatever works for your playstyle matters as well. Thanks for the guide!
The positioning of the team was something I hadn't considered yet, so thanks for that tip
Of all the Honkai Star Rail vids that I've watched for building a team. This is the one that made more sense. Thank you sooooo much. Such a life saver.
Welt is always a must in my teams, i absolutely adore him i love how he imprisons enemies and he's such a great unit overall, along side with natasha
Personally my favourite team for now is Welt/Selvar/Tingyun/Natasha
Welt is great for breaking weakness and bounding enemies, Tingyun generally helps with both buffs and survival, by charging Nat's Healing.
I got lucky and got bronya as my guaranteed she’s good
Theres that youtube channel called Uncle Jing with lots of Jing videos with that team pretty much
@@permin9533 oh really? i might have to check him out then, thanks for sharing! :) ✨
I got Bronya myself. Best of luck to you my friend!
Thanks, Sevy!
if i'm not wrong Fire MC is really good, even better than the Physical MC
Maybe they will be more usefull and will retain to the main party
@@brilleon I've not removed FIre MC at all since I got her. Planning on building her once I get more of her Eidolons.
@@neralair can't wait to get her, is it still far?
I just met Seele for the first time
@@brilleon I'm unsure where you are plotwise, but spoiler-free feedback, there's a boss that will trigger this evolution for her ;)
@@neralair Thank you
So far it's nice seeing a return to classical RPG comps.
As someone who came from Genshin and a confused HI3 player.......you got an instant sub for this.
Thanks this provide all the basic needs i want to know, specially the paths and team arrangement thing.
Very useful ❤ I actually already have Clara & Asta so I can create this team
Okay, first, a massive, and I mean massive thank you for doing this breakdown. I'm recently new to this game or type of game. I'm having tons of fun. The way you explained everything made since. Did I watch this video 3 times? Yes, I did, and did I take notes? You bet I did. Now I have a good base to go off from when building my teams.
Didn't knew about Destruction / DPS class "hidden taunt"... Only arrange my team so they can look great on the screen (Tall ones being 3rd slot, in the back, while small ones at the front, 2nd slot)
Thanks for the info, easy to understand as usual
8:36. First time I have heard this, finally someone who I really can trust with the guides. You earned a sub
The most informative and helpful team comp guide compare to other content creators, subscribed!
Much appreciated video and not gonna lie, it helped me throughout my forgotten realms. Thank you!
Much needed! Im getting the basic of the game now I want to dig into how to build and combo properly
i got bronya from the beginner banner, so im using her, and natasha as my "core", and swapping between herta/serval and dan heng/sushang for weakness coverage as needed
shoutout sevy for giving the info so easily consumable
As a person who is having their first contact with this type of RPG game now, this was actually really helpfull and easy to understand!
OMG youre in a star ral now! ive been waiting for you to cover this. Thank youuuuu
Thank God , someone i know finally making a guide video that i can use , tnx a lot
Thanks so much this really helped me as a beginner
A small note is March’s shield taunt only works if the unit you put it on is above a certain amount of Hp :3
Could you make a guide on the most efficient way to play the game? Like complete dailies first, or make sure you collect these things everyday, etc…
Seems like both harmony and nihility lean into break more than other classes. I think that hunt/harmony/nihility core works well
I think I’m pretty happy with my current team of March, Dan Heng, Serval, and Welt.
May the gacha gods be benevolent! Good luck!
This is one of the best teambuilding videos.
I main starter team & I love Herta. She plows through enemies like a monster. It's just bonus attack after bonus attack & suddenly everyone's dead.
please know that you're a great content creator when I also follow your HSR tutorials. keep up the good work, Sevvy!
Thank you very much. I find your guides easier to digest. Please do more!
I'm having quite a bit of fun with Phys Trailblazer, Dan Heng, Asta and Herta. Dan Heng is pretty much just filling a gap, but the idea is to make Herta say "It's Kuru Kuru time" and Kuru Kuru all over the place xD
It doesn't do much for bosses, but it can pulverize mobs.
Gonna start right now! ;3
I’m doing Clara, March, Asta and Dan Heng! It’s working pretty well for me so far and I have no complaints!
Been fairly lucky so have been running Bailu / Gepard / Seele / Pela been working great so far.
I wonder how much the meta will change over time seeing how much it changed with genshin
From staking ATK on Diluc to full em hyperbloom
it’s so cool how HSR taps into the pokemon fanbase, i’ve been burnt out since my childhood addiction to pokemon and nothing has been able to recreate the turn based magic like HSR (and octopath traveler)
I really like your content.
I cannot imagine how stressful it must be to cover Genshin and Honkai at the same time as a content creator.
I mean, it's even stressful to just play both games right now. 😂
the team arrangement tip is so smart!
Very big help as usual Ms. Sevy! Thank you so much ❤
I got really lucky with my pulls and ended up with Bronya (newbie banner), Bailu (lost 50/50), Seele, and Welt (standard).
This is exactly the video I had been searching for
Thank you Sevy!
Just found your channel. I love HSR and my wife is from Cebu! 🇸🇽
Thanks again.
me with my destruction/2xhunt/erudition team trying to end all the enemies before they end me 😎
also wow i had no idea team arrangement also mattered! :0
my team is Welt. Asta, Pela and Natasha.
although i dont have a "main" dps, my team usually atacks 3 times before the enemies do and bc of all the debuffs as well they all die before anyone in my team gets atacked, and if they do natasha will just heal them back up
Quite a fun team, not sure how it will hold up late game which is what scared me atm ngl
I'm blessed with an E6 Natasha. Never I will ever abandon her right now.
You have no idea how helpful this videos was, thnxs luv.🎀
Team 'I am Going First"
Put in Welt and Astra in the same team then add high speed characters for your sustain and dps.
Start getting so many turns that the enemies can't keep up.
Know when to use Welt ult to kick enemies back a turn and when to use breaks to interrupt/knockback enemy turns.
With enough damage you kill the enemies sicne you essentially get double turns.
I have pretty much stuck to one type of team ever since I knew of it's existence and while it can be upgraded wit other units, it serves me well enough and that team consists of: Seele, welt, Fire MC and natasha
How I would increase this team's damage is by either slotting in bronya (if I get her in the future) or having serval replace welt for AOE lighting damage
This is amazing! Could u please make a video about which characters fit together synergy wise as u touched upon at the end of your video!
Thank you Sevy 😊 this makes team building easier ❤
Seele gets so many turns and is fast enough that even if he she is technically a Single Target dps she is also good at multi target damage. If she is paired with Bronya, she goes off with Bronya constantly forwarding her turn.
Best teamcomp guide i watch so far!! Thanks a lot i understand now😆
Exactly the guide I was waiting for! Very pog Sevy
What team mates are you using with Welt?
Right now I'm running March 7th, Asta, Dan Heng, and Serval (sometimes switch Asta with Pela, and Serval with MC).
I'm pretty early in, just trying not to make the mistake of using too much resources. :)
Salamat sa tips idol! Hirap kasi pag lahat gamitin. Just got Blade 10 mins ago. Lesss go
For that fight against Svarog I ran a "Keep the Main DPS alive" team with Natasha for healing, March for shielding, and Serval as a sub DPS
I built an auto-play daily grind team. Basically Himeko and Herta + others, making me get through the daily stuff as fast as possible.
Loving my Clara team rn.
Clara/ March 7th/ Natasha + flex element
I might give this a swing. BTW Sevy..time for a Banner review! New banners are ups.
Natasha and March are the free go to healer/shielder. The game gave me both the five star Bailu and Gepard in my first bunch of special ticket pulls. Now I have no motivation to do anything with the free 4 star elites. I wish the game would drop some of the 5 star dps characters.
