Josh Hamon most captive monitors are not kept as well as they should, enclosures to small insufficient space and opportunity to get enough exercise and fed way to much this results in the typical slow bloated looking monitors typically seen in captivity. A healthy monitor is sleek, alert and able to move quickly when it wants to!

I think there are 2 very important things that a lot of people need to understand here: 1. Live feeding is NOT allowed on RUclips 2. Water Monitors are scavengers. They can hunt prey, but they will always prefer roaming different areas looking for food using their tracking skills. It is not unnatural in the world for a water monitor like this to track down a dead animal, it's actually more natural than seeing a water monitor try and chase a prey.
That reptile can outrun a rabbit for half a mile - smaller ones can climb. When they run they use the muscles in their throat as an air compressor in a method called buccal pumping. You don't want to be chased by any large monitor when it thinks you're dinner because you *will* lose. It's what makes Komodo & Crocodiles so dangerous to tourist idiots. They are big immobile slow animals 90% of the time, right up until they launch at you like a 250kg missile - if you know reptiles you can read their body language - if you can't or won't then you're in the ER or Mr Komodos belly. PS NEVER EVER wear white clothes around a large monitor - especially Komodo - you *will* get bitten.
Rex is so amazingly awesome! he just looks like a lot of fun to have around, a big teddy bear, though when he's enjoying a meal keep your distance! 👍👍
