It'd be hard to give it that "Burn in Despair" vibe, as the original piece relies a lot on: a) viewer familiarity/emotional connection to the Your Best Nightmare motif b) very menacing backing the part you speak of has neither of those; one would have to make sweeping changes to both the composition to an unrecognizable degree

So I've found that there's an issue with all Penumbra Phantasm covers, remixes, and remakes. Something about them always feels empty in an unintended and indescribable way. Many of them are really good, but the feeling has persisted no matter what. This cover, along with very few others, has gotten close to fixing the problem. If somebody can find a way to fix this problem, then their Penumbra Phantasm cover/remake/remix will be incredible. Anyways, great job! Very few have made it this close before.
@@conno02 Im pretty sure its about the instrument, everyone uses some basic soundfont instruments and this one actually uses normal instruments, i think you need more background instruments, a bit more metal, but more variated, not only the kick snare and guitar thing, thats something you got right, the variations, not the same repeating melody lol, and also the song in unfinished, so probably if someone doesn't get to make a really good continuation of the song, it will always be empty, the power of HOPE was a really good continuation.
@@conno02 You have a really good potential with this, I recommend you to try to make it better, but do not overdo it, you can ruin it by trying to add everything without proper time and attention.
i like that this one sounds a lot more balanced than the v1, also still love that end section. i didnt even notice the undertale in there until i relistened to v1, but i love it so much 😭its probably why it made me so emotional and i didnt even notice
recently read through all of homestuck and this definitely feels like it could be the backing music to a cutscene in there maybe like an extension of that one little reference part in the final battle thing
i really wouldnt worry about people preferring the older version, this one is a clear and direct upgrade to it in every way. Honestly kudos to you for even finding a way to improve it in the first place!
honestly, it was initially a HUGEE downgrade... i tried to mimic the mixing of Hope and Dreams but realized it didn't mesh well with the arrangement. So I ended up just taking some elements from Hopes and Dreams and refining what I already had instead.
