Good looking bead. Have you ever tried your tig art on mild steel? Thin mild steel. For example a motorcycle gas tank? I'm wondering about rust proofing and warpage. I'm putting together a 1964 Triumph t120r and was thinking that the battery box and gas tank might look good with some tig art on them. There are a few other ideas floating around, but wanted to get your opinion.
Your breakdowns are great, I was a certified welder and fabricator and haven't been able to weld last few years due to illness. Now I'm getting better I'm going to grab another TIG setup.
Love your channel. I really appreciate talented people showing their skills. It makes me, a hobbyist, with very little spare time, able to improve my skills in a shorter amount of time. Thanks again
I love this channel, I had a customer who wanted a titanium 8.50 cert cage in his 1000hp 70 charger. Took me almost a month but tig welds were clean and everything had good continuity all through the cage. I can't even guess how much that cost him. Wish I never stopped welding/ fabrication. Your Channel is great and your breakdowns are perfect. I'm buying another tig as soon as I can
Hi, I've just started in an aerospace company and I'm doing my titanium test pieces 0.7mm butt and t fillet, the butt I found quite easy but I when I tried the t fillet I finally understood what they meant by "sticky to weld", sometimes I get a really nice consistent weld and others it seems to stick more 🤣 it's definitely testing my patient but improving all the time👍
I've been welding since I was 16 and just got my first job doing stainless and aluminum tig so now I can't stop thinking about it I'm so happy being able to do it for work
THANK YOU DUSTY. Just the tips I need to help me get started on welding up my Nuss Bars for jewelry. Please more on titanium. I hear it welds like sugar. Sticky and can become a mess quicker than a snicker. Keep being awesome. 💜
Ohmahgawd, if a company hooked me up with just 1 pack of those coupons I'da died smiling before I ever finished making a video. Few deserve such a generous opportunity as you, Dusty! I'll be an envious shade of green for months now. Rip them joints!
When I learned how to weld titanium the instructor mentioned nothing about a gas lense, maybe they were not a thing in the 70's but we did use a copper box after trail that was clamped to the cup.Got about the same results as you did, never used the process since.🤗😎🤗😎
Haven't welded Ti. But machining, grinding, drilling and running a tap into the stuff is definitely an experience. Certainly need the right tools to work with it!
Hey Dusty, I work in a place that weld like this consistently (titanium). The only thing I can say is, purge, purge, purge, when you think that’s enough gas coverage add 10 seconds more. Hood down, lights on
I’m willing to bet all the haters are just getting started and probably have someone behind them giving them a hard time . So they come here and take out your frustrations. Your pro/ artist . Get some
Dude! You got hooked up! Starting to reap the benefits of all your hard work on your channel... And of course I knew you would do excellent on your 1st run..merry Xmas my brother!
That looks like so much fun. Gonna have to convince someone at work to help me get started with TIG, I don't usually weld any more at work because i've switched from repairman to truck electrical installer but i still want to learn.
Had an instructor demo Ti welding. We couldn’t afford coupons. Had a ton of custom purge fixtures he’d acquired over the years. He was a union guy and he kept bugging the old certified guys to let him into their club.
DUDDEEE!!!!! I just taught myself to tig Ti! Its awesome!! Omg my fav to date. Seeing your video after watching alot of educational videos you said it best.. That feeling of something new!! It felt so good to push myself to the next level.. enjoy your channel as always. Keep killin it brother! 💪🏾
low amps, only argon and custom backpurging with diy riggings.. im ready now hehehe!! ive seen a titanium welding practice kit online of some cut offs and a titanium stick to tig practice with and i think after seeing how little current it takes for thin walled shiz like that i think my 120v machine might get a few presents after next check... and a new bottle. Very inspiring video and amazing colors you have made, great work there sir!!
Well as of last week I just started my tig welding journey and I can say that it is becoming one of my more favorite types of welding so far though I am still in collage for welding but like this alot so far compared to the others !
Looks pretty good for a first welded pieces of titanium. I have done some of that for living in previous work. It is kind of easy material to weld, just need be careful with that back shielding gas. Around 20 yrs ago we made huge titanium pipes, one guy was welding and another one was in the tube holding the back shieldgas fixture on the spot where it was welded. I guess they have changed that method nowadays, it wasnt the most healthiest jobs to inhale that crap inside of the pipe.
i really like watching your videos and one of these days when I'm not busy I'll try some of the welding you show. I also like that you took my advice on the "peace" sign (instead of screw you sign LOL). It takes me a while to get up nerve to try some different type of welding (I'm 69, old guy!!), but I like what I see on your channel. Thank you for the videos.
Titanium is fun trying to weld my school had us weld it for a cert some passed some failed just make sure you don’t stick the tip in the puddle as with every other tig welding also you can either have a bigger cup size or you can just get a back purge
Dusty, addicted to your videos. And my TIG welder finally arrived.....from B.C. I think it floated here. Anyhow, the Titanium vid Part 1 was great. Looking forward to Part 2 with tubing. And I linked that vendor Panda as well. So down the road, no hurry. Would love to see you try out Monel 400 and Inconel. Exotic stuff for aerospace and used in Formula 1 exhaust but could be interesting.
Good stuff man. Dedicated stainless brush to remove the surface oxides, wipe down with pure acetone (I use 99% pure acetone wipes) and backing gas. Great stuff for racing applications!
Great video, I've played with Ti a few times, I totally hear you on the sticking. I was welding some 0.32 stuff and ended up setting some weights on it so the piece wouldn't come off the table and into my tungsten when my filler stuck to the part.. after like the 3rd time :-)
I got some Ti coupons and filler rods in from weldmetals Thursday. I also have a furick BBW cup waiting for it. A purge fixture too though based on what they said on one of Jody's podcasts I need to modify it a bit for the butt joint. I am going to try to teach myself titanium welding, so this video was very timely for me. I do want to try out some of the pie cuts and pipe from Panda when I get time. They mentioned the filler rod sticking on the podcast,I think they said some Ti alloys are worse than others about it. I do have a project in mind if I can pick up the process quick enough. Wouldn't be necessary, but titanium would be cool.
Not sure if you actually did but ik titanium needs to have the oxide layer removed just like aluminum bcz the oxygen in the oxide layer could migrate and grow the oxide layer inward. Not sure sure if you knew that just something i learned in my fabrication of alloys class at college
Thank you so much for sharing knowledge. Can you please tell both imperialistic and ISO (metric) values. Or write down, or what ever. Every time I have to recalculate CF/h to liters per minute, inches to milimeters... Once again, for us from another side of planet, THANK YOU!
Obsessed with your artwork and patience with your videos. Amazing quality. Do you ever weld stainless pipe? I cut coupons for myself every weekend when I'm home to stay on top but curious if you would be interested in showing how to root pipe? Appreciate you!
I think you've just sparked a hobby for me and maybe a business venture. The ways titanium could be used, structurally, automotively, and artistically, have me sold I think. Thanks for the content :) Also! What about a water cooled block to weld titanium on, something pretty chilly, say -50c, like a condenser/radiator setup, and use sort of thermal paste on the back side to conduct the heat away? Just a thought for a more permanent and cost.. effective? way, instead of using gas, especially on bigger pieces.
The heat is not a problem TI likes lots of heat. But the oxygen in the air can't hit the puddle or it creates a white crystal and causes weld to want to break. That is why you need to shield the back side.
Hey Dusty. Gotta say I stopped on your channel by seeing an art piece. Love that it was also such a gem to find a welding channel that is bad%$$, and amazingly informative! Only been welding on the job for a couple yrs with no formal training, but fell in love with it. Wish had been sooner. Just going to be starting tig (DC only for now) but glad I found your vids before I get going. QUESTION is where do I find your courses? Really interested in backing your passion and helping my new! Watch every night keep it up man!
no sticking if you ball drop. melt the rod above the puddle and its beautiful dimes and let it ball up and drop. pulse lay wire the lap. the color outside the heat zone is fine you dotn want the color in the heat/weld zone....if its to be "structural" my qa qill reject any weld on Ti if there is even a blue hair across the weld btu that is on aircraft. love Ti welding....also Ti loves the heat, takes more think. hot and slow travel
Hello, you make it look easy. How many years have you TIG welded ? Myself I mostly have done MIG welding and stayed away from TIG being as I I'm not that good at it.
Cool. I enjoy watching you challenge yourself. I tried some for fun too and ran out of argon gas right at the end of the bead around a 1” coped tubing “t” fit up. Then tried some beads on 3mm thick ti and recon that’s harder. It warped, it crackled and groaned and made all sorts of noises. Sure know what you mean about that filler rod being sticky☹️ I’m not a welder, just a hobby burner. I also made a 50x50x50x 1mm cube (dice) for fun and hell that thing rings when you roll it.
Try some bismuth crystals on the art to see if you like it, they will pair well with welds, but make the crystals it’s more fun and you can learn to make different sized crystals and colors depending on heat and cooling. With your experience should be a cake walk. Overall though the art is absolutely stunning amazing work
Been waiting for this video for a while :) .... Great job - It does look like fun. Would be interesting to know what grade of Titanium you were welding...looked like grade 2, but am not sure.
Love the videos and have learned a ton from the experience you share. Haven't seen a lot of time spent with the Canaweld in recent videos ... ? Thanks!
Couple months ago I TIG welded some 90/10 CuNi pipe. Like welding pudding. Not that hard, needs special rod. I did no rod root pass first then a filler rod pass. Watch for pits in the root pass that are not hard to fill in the rod pass. Lots of fun, though.

Welding tips and tricks is simply the best to learn.
Jodie rocks
Jodi with welding tips and tricks. Love it haha
Love your channel. I really appreciate talented people showing their skills. It makes me, a hobbyist, with very little spare time, able to improve my skills in a shorter amount of time. Thanks again
Thanks SO MUCH! I really appreciate you watching 🙏
I like your attitude when you're saying that a new challenge it's fun! that's the way to go and the way to inspire! Thanks and respect

Used to do a lot of this in a previous job welding jet engine components, great material to weld. The sticking will up your game in feeding filler
Hi, I've just started in an aerospace company and I'm doing my titanium test pieces 0.7mm butt and t fillet, the butt I found quite easy but I when I tried the t fillet I finally understood what they meant by "sticky to weld", sometimes I get a really nice consistent weld and others it seems to stick more 🤣 it's definitely testing my patient but improving all the time👍
I worked for two major airlines and jet engine overhaul facility’s. Welded titanium cracks all the time. Good color on it is critical on repairs
I converted a old sandblast cabinet for welding titanium, purged the inside ,worked great. I was doing weld build up on titanium impellers.
This video just hyped me up, I can’t wait till I’m welding my first titanium exhaust
Ohmahgawd, if a company hooked me up with just 1 pack of those coupons I'da died smiling before I ever finished making a video. Few deserve such a generous opportunity as you, Dusty! I'll be an envious shade of green for months now. Rip them joints!
Titanium is definitely a lot of fun 👍🏻
i just started tig welding and your videos have been an amazing help! thanks so much!
Always enjoy and learn off your channel. Thanks Dusty.
Gotta tell You... I love that extensive research of Yours. Very similar to mine.
Not bad I could go on for days with ti tips been welding it for around 10 years daily now
When I learned how to weld titanium the instructor mentioned nothing about a gas lense, maybe they were not a thing in the 70's but we did use a copper box after trail that was clamped to the cup.Got about the same results as you did, never used the process since.🤗😎🤗😎
Some times it's good for the Master to become the Student. It helps keep the attitude in check. thank you for sharing.
Take Care and Stay Safe.
Bob
Great video, hope you had fun, keep welding peace
Haven't welded Ti. But machining, grinding, drilling and running a tap into the stuff is definitely an experience. Certainly need the right tools to work with it!
Get a trailing cup. When I was doing a lot of Ti we used trailing cups + back purge, was required by the WPS.
THE SCENE WHERE YOUR'e WATCH'n JODY WAS COOL....
Hey Dusty, I work in a place that weld like this consistently (titanium). The only thing I can say is, purge, purge, purge, when you think that’s enough gas coverage add 10 seconds more. Hood down, lights on
Jody 🙂 the best teacher 👍
Make a trailing gas shield that way your titanium doesn't get dirty looking and cools correctly keeps everything out of it
Jodi is a good man
Good morning brothers and sisters in the welding world
Why did I just now notice that Dillinger Escape Plan hat on the shelf? You just became a lot cooler of a content creator in my mind man!
I laughed so hard on the „Hey Jody here“ 😂 such a Great guy
I wont be trying this anytime soon, but it looks great. love these videos, short, interesting and full of information. Thanks again and again.
Welcome to the world of Ti!
Another GREAT episode packed with useful information! Thanks again and Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much for this video. I think I’ll actually try and make a titanium exhaust system
Very awesome, definitely want to try it, thank you
I’m willing to bet all the haters are just getting started and probably have someone behind them giving them a hard time . So they come here and take out your frustrations. Your pro/ artist . Get some
🪙Awesome episode Bro. Looks like you had a blast on this one.
Jody Collier is the man to learn from on that! 🤙🏼
Dude! You got hooked up! Starting to reap the benefits of all your hard work on your channel... And of course I knew you would do excellent on your 1st run..merry Xmas my brother!
Awesome video Dusty. What do you use to sharpen your tungsten. It almost looks polished.
I don't own a welder and probably never will but I really enjoy these vids! Thanks for sharing! :-)
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I needed this. You rock!
That looks like so much fun. Gonna have to convince someone at work to help me get started with TIG, I don't usually weld any more at work because i've switched from repairman to truck electrical installer but i still want to learn.

Bro that looks dope, titanium is next level bad ass!!
Thanks so much my friend. Always appreciate seeing your comments. Hope you are well🙏
How would you do your restarts on titanium?
I have always wanted to try that. Might have to give it a go. Good video!

I've done extensive research, video of jodey haha ! Cheers love your channel
I’ve had good success with ti276 tig welding it but the most successful I’ve had was with my alpha alm250 laser welder it’s a great machine
Jody is the reason I weld now 😅
Titanium is fun trying to weld my school had us weld it for a cert some passed some failed just make sure you don’t stick the tip in the puddle as with every other tig welding also you can either have a bigger cup size or you can just get a back purge

Ayo future titanium art 😳 👍
Only difference between our extensive research is I watch your channel 😂😂😂
what filler rod do you use, maybe I missed it.
The filler he used was CP1 from the company that sent the titanium. It's shown at 0:53 in the video.
Bro super solid video

Hey, I’m looking for tig welding machine I can weld titanium with. Do you have any recommendations?
Due you believe a bug-o-system setup could perform this type of titanium welding?
Love your vids. Bro i wish I can buy those machines
I literally came from Jody’s channel ha

WHICH TUNGSTEN IS SUITABLE FOR TITANIUM, ABOUT ITS COLOR. AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE VIDEO, A BIG HUG HERE FROM BRAZIL
Did you ever do the second tI episode?
Love It
I definitely want to give titanium a try! What size was the filler rod you were using?
What size of filter rod are you using
Tried making ti bmx frames but couldn't find material for the head tube & bottom bracket. Chromoly & aluminium easy
THE FABRICATION SERIES
Maybe a bit off topic but would you just sell that coupon you were testing the colour change on? Haha for some reason I just like it 👌
Iam also tig arc fcaw. I wil du aluminum tig bras. But i will very inderst titanium welding. How is i study
Sick!
I've always tig welded Ti really bad!
Hi, What kind of tungsten should I use? Layzr?
That’s what I use🔥
Same as you would use for stainless
Jody is the standard.
Couple months ago I TIG welded some 90/10 CuNi pipe. Like welding pudding. Not that hard, needs special rod. I did no rod root pass first then a filler rod pass. Watch for pits in the root pass that are not hard to fill in the rod pass. Lots of fun, though.
