Growing up in Jamaica I learned this song. Watch your eyes watch eyes what the see, watch your ears watch your ears what they hear... We definitely have to be careful what we ear and see daily as adults much less our kids.. Kids nowadays are different and dealing with a lot so we as parents have to prepare them as best way possible for the world and trust the work we put into preparing them. If the kids are trained the right way at home then they'll be fine. It's starts at home. Always.

It's not about telling anyone how to identify, the issue is why so many blacks want to identify with negative elements in black culture. At the end of this video even the guy said he hopes people still see him as a thug, even though he's a middle aged father.

We should never dismiss it's power and influence!
Yet I also feel and have learned in my journey through life, and my journey as a father. The seed you plant will take root if nutured and cultivated. That seed will bare abundant fruit and the tree will stand firm and strong.
The roots attachment to the soil will determine the life of the tree 🌳.

Overseas we are american! People will identify us as that. The sistah is correct. There is an entire WORLD out here. Ameticans are waaay too insular and self absorbed. But there is a context. Tech circles are not the same folks as in other circles. But don was talking about social clubs or churches but not everyone is involved in black groups and spaces. I keep beating this drum. Younger generation is moving away from this and with technology we are becoming more individual.
If we dont find a way to meet these young people where they at we will lose them! With VR tech and AI socialization is becoming gaming communitues and online groups etc. And less church or local stuff. We all dont live in black enclsves. There are online fandoms now. I have to disagree to a certain extent. I have lived in Saudi Arabia, London, and Dubai, working, not in the military. Black American's, as I cannot speak to black folks from other countries, are not seen as the real Americans, whites are. When we speak, we are seen as being from America, however, America is known as being white. That is why Trump can use the term, "Make American Great Again", because he is talking to white people about white people and all of the priviledged rights that they had, especially during Slavery and Jim Crow. The old adage applies here...."If you convince the lowest white man that he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice your're picking his pocket."

Your child (Omi?) is taking horseback riding lessons, your career includes travelling the world, and it sounds like you engage in regular conversations with your child. Don's children get complimented on their behavior and it sounds like he is also an actively engaged parent. More than likely, yes; your chlidren will be okay. Unfortunately, you are not the majority of the black community. I work in a school system where the median income is $24,000 for a family of four. It's not unusual for a parent to come to the school in order to fight a student or to punch a bus driver for not pickig up her kid. These are the kids I'm worried about. These children are not doing okay, and neither are their parents. It's a battle every day to try to combat the foolishness that's put before them by people who couldn't care less about the impact of what they are promoting.

Soft is Nerding out on math, science, engineering, inventing, finances, stocks… basically anything outside of video gaming and sportsball. Soft is not celebrating hip hop culture and mentality, not being monolithic or subscribing to group think. All the tech entrepreneurs and leaders of industry from Asians, East Indians, Europe, etc. are soft.
Our prisons and court systems are filled with the proud men who are not soft. This way of of thinking have brought us this far and we going to the moon because all we have is time. More time than other race so we can afford to waste it in our youth with wheel spinning in place or possible court system detours. Then point the finger at everyone else to blame but at least you are not soft.

@@Ded-Ede so, that’s your point of view but not quite what I meant. I meant not being able to show a tough side or edge regardless of your skill or chosen profession. Your statement is old old view of thinking that most brothers no longer have. That hardcore brother that goes to jail for dumb shit just because is played out. You are right the grave yard and prison system is full of them. When I talk about having an edge I’m speaking on the brother that can handle any situation. He can lead a power broker meeting, he can be a nerd, a pastor or military, but he knows how to carry /handle himself without getting his ass kicked or appearing soft. Soft is not knowing how to look or be the part even if you aren’t going to bust a grape. My point is today we (black men) teach our sons how to handle themselves even if they are a nerd. Thus have an edge when they need it to keep bullies and idiots up off of them. The ability to protect one’s family without ending up dead. In certain situations or around certain people you better have some type of toughness about you.
