  • In this video I shod a horse needing a suspensory shoe on his left hind after a vet examination. I also used the giveaway hammer to see how sweet it is and figure out if it needs any tweaking. It swings AMAZING! I wish I got to keep it for myself haha. There's also details on how you can enter to win the hammer if you haven't had the chance to yet too. Thanks for watching!!

That is some sweet forming ya did... not to many channels show a shoe starting from bar stock and all the steps that go into forming one.
I don't think you could get one more uniform and semetrical even if u were to cut the shape out of a piece of plate steel with a band saw and grind it...
And now a new subscriber, thank you!

I appreciate that! Lot's of hours and days spent forging and shoeing horses to try and become the best I can be. I'm no where near the greatest farrier on earth, but I try to do work to a high standard!

Is that a oil that you are dipping your tool’s in when you were cutting off the pieces and making your nail hole’s

It's basically a compound made out of Beeswax to help keep the tools cool and lubes them up for smoother work. With tool steel, you can't quench/cool them in water because of their molecular structure and it'll ruin them. So some sort of compound to quench them in between use is a good solution.

so if he still has this problem. I would use a hind egg bar.
I know this not what most shoer's do. but it really works.

When you measure the branch while it’s in the straight what length are you looking for? If the foot measures 5 1/2 long would you need a little more than 5 1/2 in the straight to account for the quarter bend? Also I don’t have Instagram how can I get entered to win the hammer?

Generally I would be adding 3/4” so I was looking for 6&1/4” laterally and 6&1/8” medially. And that measurement changes a little bit when the foot is larger or smaller. If you have a Facebook you can send me a screenshot that you’re subscribed to my channel there too.
