You should never use a high carbon steel to make tongs. You may use such tongs to heat and quench your steel and therefore making the tongs very brittle. Then the slightest impact will shatter those tongs. I know they're farrier nippers but sooner or later they will break. VOE

Aluminum can be a pain, i played around with in horseshoeing school. I had to discreetly remove the puddle of Aluminum after the forge cooled 😂
