Why does the hammer get bounced on the anvil before hitting the shoe for shaping? That finished job looks really good . I am so impressed by the knowledge and skill of farriers and this young man is very good at his work , very efficient and effective ❤

What about dremmeling out that crack, and some adhere to better immobilize it? Also when you talked about a shoeing plan, no mention of your long term strategy for that toe - crack goes right into the coronary band...plus a rockered toe which helps breakover would relieve some of that toe crack stress. And hey, just being a Devil's Advocate here, your shoe making, shaping, fitting, and finish finesse are admirable, I needed to find something to gripe about, lol.

I personally am not a huge fan of applying products to feet with lots of chemicals in em but since this was essentially just old scar tissue and not presently bleeding or interfering with the coronary band, I didn’t think it necessary to apply a barshoe or anything beyond good trimming and fitting. I understand where you’re coming from though.

How many trim cycles has he had with rehab shoes? did you do anything to treat the bacteria in the wall? it looks like the coronet could be damaged. will that damage grow out and if it will how long will it take?

This was my first time seeing this horse. This is essentially just scar tissue at this point. No infection there. And there will more than likely be a blemish on the outside of this foot for time to come. My goal is to get the foot to grow solid hoofwall and no long split and crack.

Can that crack be corrected? You always do a nice job with all your horses. Just wondering about this poor horses’ hoof. 😮

I’d be lying to anyone if I said I could make the crack disappear forever and make it look like a normal hoof. It’s essentially just scar tissue now and my job is to maintain that it doesn’t open up or get worse.

Would anything ever be applied to a big crack to reduce further splitting? Maybe a bit of fiberglass mesh and epoxy?

Good luck in your career. Old tools are no problem for a good Farrier.

Do you think the crack will ever heal? Or will it be with the horse forever?
