    Always looking for innovative use of my scroll saw. Gonna give this a try for a project I have in mind for the new home we're building. Great presentation and description of process.

    When you said scroll saw I thought you would pour sheets of color and cut your shapes. But your method is using less resin which is darned expensive. Nice work by the way

    Very nice and you explained the method well. Have you tried a thinner resin for easier flow? I think thats what I'll do. But good show and well done to the hummingbird and video.

      @tamarapawluk6169  4 года назад

      Thank-you! I haven’t tried any other resin yet although I’d be worried a thinner one may seep easier under the wood. Let me know if it works better for you though

    Have you considered using Clear shelf paper instead of blue tape? If so did it not work for some reason? I use it on portraits. Charles Hand got me started on it.

    • @tamarapawluk6169
      @tamarapawluk6169  4 года назад

      I did try it once but I think I found it didn’t stick as well but I also probably didn’t prep the wood well enough. I’ll have to try it again one day. 😊

    Absolutely Stunning. One question. Is there a way to clean the syringes to make them multiple use or because of the resin do they become single use? Keep up the great work..

    • @tamarapawluk6169
      @tamarapawluk6169  2 года назад

      Thank you! You can possibly reuse the syringe itself if you clean it right away. But I have sadly been unable to clean the needle sufficiently to reuse as it just gets clogged even if you think it’s not.

    One point is unclear. Do you or do you not recommend a varnish overspray?
    Your project is beautiful.

    • @tamarapawluk6169
      @tamarapawluk6169  4 года назад

      I do not recommend it. It left an undesirable film on the resin. I’ll likely varnish the wood BEFORE adding the plexiglass and resin from now on though to give the wood a shine.

    • @tamarapawluk6169
      @tamarapawluk6169  4 года назад

      That looks good too. I didn’t spray the flower one. I suppose it’s personal preference or depending on the piece you are making.

    I am another one arriving from Steve Good's recommendation. Just one question, how did you separate the acrylic sheet? Sounds kinda dangerous to me. Thanks!

    • @tamarapawluk6169
      @tamarapawluk6169  4 года назад +1

      Hello! I wasn’t going to separate the sheet but I’d thought I’d give it a go to see how it goes and once I started, I was committed. I basically just pried around the edges with a butter knife then yanked it off in bits. It was definitely scary! It does end up looking a bit nicer than leaving the sheet on but you don’t have to remove it if you don’t want to as that still looks nice too. I will likely end up leaving it on in the future.

      I’m worried about using less adhesive due to potential leakage. I usually put clear tape on the wood over the pattern because usually the pattern isn’t the same size as the wood and so the clear tape covers the sticky blue tape around the pattern. I suppose I didn’t really need to do that for this one given that the pattern covered all of the tape but I’m just used to doing it and it’s an extra layer of comfort for me to be ensure it’s stuck properly.

      @@tamarapawluk6169 I was thinking about this last night. I debated about taping or gluing something below, but that has the same problem you dealt with. Then it dawned on me that we might be able to use something to press the wood into... but what? Then bam... something like plumbers putty! Maybe roll it out thin like a pie crust (1 mm tho), and then press the wood into it. It might seal to prevent leaking, and then peel away really easily! It would have the added benefit of having the epoxy sit above (or below) the wood level when viewed from the other side - so symmetrical! I think I may try this, but I need to order epoxy and the ink. Anyway, just a thought! :)

    I love it you did a great job ! What about using an epoxy release spray on the plexiglass ? I tried Art Resin and had similar issues so I switched brands and have had way better results. I wonder if you just held the frame down with a strong back and poured 1/16” of clear epoxy to seal everything and then pour the dyed epoxy…but obviously you already thought of that. I was looking for a new scroll saw project and this is prefect fit.

      Thank you! Great suggestions. I’m always looking for ways to improve the process. I tried a new way in a different video where I only need to attach the edges to a poly sheet and then pour a thin layer of clear resin to act as a barrier for the coloured resin.

    What is the brand of the glue you used for attaching Plexiglas to the wood.?

    • @tamarapawluk6169
      @tamarapawluk6169  4 года назад

      Hello! I used Elmer’s disappearing purple spray adhesive. I don’t spray it but I brush it on. I like it because it’s runnier than other glues so easy to brush on and get good coverage. And it dries nice and clear too.

      @@tamarapawluk6169 Thank you. I have done some research and found out this is available in Canada at HD and the Art Resin is available at Amazon and in various sizes at the local art store. Definitely on the todo list after the isolation period. Thanks for the video.

    If you pour a clear coat of resin over the spray you put on it will bring your shine back.
