A few years ago, I saw her in concert. Last song of the night was "Midnight Train To Georgia" The entire audience took on the Pips roll joining her in song. It was one of the top three concerts I've attended.
Gladys will always be one of my favorite female singer especially from the Motown era and Harri, as you would say she sounds like Diamonds👏👏👏👏👏

This was from Glady's 1973 album Imagination. It made it to Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100's chart and was certified gold. It was written by Jim Weatherly who also wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "Neither One of Us" which also sold one million copies.

Superb performance. However, my favorite Gladys Knight & the Pips song remains the very first one I ever heard, the hauntingly beautiful "If I Were Your Women," from 1970 and recorded for Motown. (Of course, they also had the first hit version of "I Heard It through the Grapevine.")

After all the times she has sung this song, she still puts everything into this performance. I always thought one of her best qualities was her smile. In a humorous vein, if you've never seen the video of Midnight Train to Georgia with Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey, Jr., filling in for the Pips, it's worth a watch.

A few years ago, Gladys appeared as "The Bee" on The Masked Singer tv show where people sing in their real voice, while in costume, and you have to guess who they are. It wasn't hard to figure out who it was. Her gorgeous voice is unmistakable!
Well even if a voice is so distinct that you should be able to recognise it immediately, it doesn’t always happen. I mean, how could Morten Harket from a-ha not be recognised in the UK edition of The Masked Singer? 😉

Modern singers tske a lesson from this singer. She does runs too, but doesn't overdo THE RUNS. Gospelly and soulful, but the words and melody predominate. The runs add emphasis to the phrasing and emotion of the song, but don't overwhelm it.
One of my top five, not necessarily in order, Karen C., Linda R., Gladys, Roberta Flack and Marilyn McCoo. Add one more, from the rock genre, the inimitable Annie Wilson. I could listen to these magical ladies all day long. All from the greatest era of modern music. Yes, yes, I adore Barbra and Celine, they are wondrous, but for my ears you have my top five, and Karen, my angel, will always be at the top.
