Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII-only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's ("Seabiscuit: An American Legend") enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini's unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.
Starring alongside O'Connell are Domhnall Gleeson and Finn Wittrock as Phil and Mac-the airmen with whom Zamperini endured perilous weeks adrift in the open Pacific-Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini's brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as "The Bird."
The film is produced by Jolie, as well as Clayton Townsend (This Is 40), Matthew Baer (City by the Sea) and Erwin Stoff (The Day the Earth Stood Still). Leading the accomplished behind-the-scenes crew is 11-time Oscar®-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall).
Academy Award® winners Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men) rewrote the screenplay from earlier drafts by William Nicholson (Les Misérables) and Richard LaGravenese (HBO's Behind the Candelabra).
Unbroken arrives in theaters on Christmas Day, 2014. www.unbrokenfilm.com

RIP My Great Grandpa Boyd Ringo, prisinor of war for three years... I have so much respect for these people...
R.I.P Louis Zamperini. You will always be remembered as a true hero.
I am reading the book right now. It is an indescribable story.
The goosebumps ❤️
Having had the honor of interviewing him a couple of yrs ago,i think this story is so unbelievable,,that it cannot be true,,but it is. Humble, practical ,wise man. Those were a few honorable minutes.Thanks!RIP,Mr.Zamperini
I would see this movie on Christmas Day. What better day than to remember someone extraordinary who suffered for our freedoms?
This movie isn't about america VS japan!! its the story of a man who survived against all odds! 47 days at sea! with no food and little water against sharks and air strikes and then survived 2 years in a war camp after that ordeal, a war camp that could have been any war camp, all war camps were equally as cruel as the other, but since this is based off a true story they put the one he actually went to, this is all in the past and is not representing countries today, its about a man who survived! i watched a documentary about him and he is truly an extraordinary person
this movie is 1941
Paris Peace Conference, 1919

LOL racism movie.....
THANK YOU ! PEOPLE SEE ONE SCENE WITH THE JAPANESE GUY AND GET ALL CRAZY
Alexander Brown It's MIYAVI
Finally someone got some sense. Holly you are absolutely right!
Totally agree girl! Someone should stop talking nonsense
Just watched this film. Absolutely amazing.
I heard Jack O'Connell's performance was incredible!
Triumph of human spirit
I heard about this when my father was reading the book. he was all like this guy fought off sharks in the ocean and got shot at by Japanese planes, and I said no way, but it's true.
Okay everyone in the comments needs to shut up. Nobody gives a crap if Japan hates this movie or that Angelina Jolie can't come to Japan anymore. I'm pretty sure she's ok with that. This movie isn't about how bad the Japanese were, it's about a badass mofo named Louis Zamperini. Do you know how many movies have been made about the stuff Germany did in World War II? A shit ton, but they don't flip shit in the comments and say that the director is lying and that this movie is anti Germany propaganda. No, because they know what they did and they're sorry and guess what? Because they accepted the consequences and realized what they did people don't hate them! I'm friends with a family from Germany and they don't freak out about what their country did. So #dealwithit Japan. You fucked up. Now man up and accept it. There is overwhelming proof and your country wasn't even close to being as bad as Germany but you still can't move on. Let the angry comments is crappy English and Japanese characters I can't read without Google translate roll in. By the way, by replying to this comment with something mean and hateful, you're just backing up everything is said :)
Too Much info plz.
Literally took the words out of my mouth
You are absolutely right
Apple Pi im german and i agree. But no country has a perfect past you know. Every country has at least some horrible history
Apple Pi and i don’t know if Japan had a better past than Germany, but heck if I was Japanese, I’d admit it and accept at least some of my bloodlines background/history.
Everyone shut up about what you believe in, and enjoy this good movie.

Goosebumps all over my body. Never happened while watching a trailer. Looking forward to this movie.
I get goosebumps every time I watch this.
I just saw this. This is far and away the best film of the last year, no competition. It's also solid proof that movie critics have no qualifications for their job and can be ignored. This is an absolute must see movie!! Be aware it's very graphic.
I've just finished reading "Unbroken" for the second time and plan to see the movie. Of course everything in the book isn't going to fit into a movie that lasts only a couple hours. This is just an amazing story and worth giving up a few hours of social media time to read.
this is totally going to make jack o connell. he'll no doubt be doing american blockbusters after this comes out. such a good actor!
RIP the inspirational Louis Zamperini
January 17, 1917-July 2, 2014
Very inspirational story. It reminds me of myself growing up. All the pain I endured during my childhood paid dividends in the real world growing up. I have compassion for all the real things in life as does the main character in this movie. I recommend this movie to everyone. Angelina Jolle is a great director and will be for a long time.
Maybe not Angelina Jolie the actress but Angelina Jolie the director will be the most influential.I like the topic and story she chose. It is about courage, determination, and heart. To fight when you are injured and about what makes a hero.
Louie Zamperini had been selected to be the Grand Marshall of the 2015 Pasadena Rose Parade. I wish he had lived to do that. He passed away July 2, 2014.
This book has been on my "to read" list forever! So many books so little time.
One of the best story about faith in Christ, fight, endurance, love, forgiveness, overcoming all that devil throws at your way .. salute to late sir louis zamperini who bore his Cross.
R.I.P Louis Zamperini
(1917-2014)
December 7, 1941 -- NEVER FORGET
Totally recommend to all to read the book. There's a small slow part, but the majority is the kind of book you can't put down. Louie's story is gripping and so worth the time. And, I read a lot!!
Is it called Unbroken too?
Paige Buckner Yes. It won't be difficult to find b/c it has been a NYT Bestseller for several years, and there will be many holds for it at your local library.
Awesome, thanks!
Best book I've ever read
By all means, read the book! It is fabulous! One of the best I've ever read. I have waited with much anticipation for this film to come out.
unbroken - the courage to keep going - looks incredible
"Unbroken" packs one hell of a WWII-related wallop. It's a five star movie. Highly recommended. Kudos to all the actors and special congrats to its director - Ms. Angelina Jolie.
One of the best movies I've watched. ❤️
The books were incredible, Unbroken, Devil at My Heels .RIP Louis Zamperini.
I just finished reading this book, and now I'm watching the trailer, I have to say that the movie looks really good! It stuck with the book as far as I can see! But what is amazing but is that this is a true story! Who agrees with me??
This is my favorite book of all time. Hope this movie lives up to that.
The movie tell story of hope and faith. Good movie.
I saw the movie, and it was the best movie of 2014 and I've seen all the movies in 2014.Too bad loui couldn't see the movie himself
I respect you loui
Read this book in school and it's amazing to see it on the big screen!
This is one of the most underrated films I've ever watched. It was so beautiful and so sad at the same time. Rotten Tomatoes is not a reliable source for Movie ratings those people are clueless. By the way Angelina Jolie Good Job.
Read the book in two days. A non stop spellbinder. Highly recommended before the movie comes out. And I will be at a cinema on Christmas. Louis Zamperini has a life Hollywood couldn't dream up.
He was asked to carry the torch at the olympics in Japan near the end of his life. A memorial was put up for all the pow's held there. The audiobook was fascinating and moving. He forgave his c aptors in the end. What a powerful story. Bickering about blame and who's the bad guy is immature and not the point. The story was brutally honest but it did not leave out the good acts ie: the kind guard or the ones uncomfortable interrogating or the good civilians that cared (that was in the audiobook..maybe the movie missed those parts. I haven't seen the movie yet). We all know we are all capable (all our countries have at one time been guilty of it) evil acts. None of us are without blame.Bickering is just pride and posturing and missing the very noble message in this story of forgiveness, healing and the strength of the human spirit..
If its half as good as the book is, it'll be award-worthy, inspirational, and life-changing.
I was very sad that the rest of his story wan't in the movie. When he went back to Japan and forgave all the soilders who Tortured him..there was just so many things that should have been in this movie. I think there should be unbroken 2.
I read the book and if you have seen this trailer you have honestly seen the movie. It literally shows the beginning, the middle, and the end
Great book and a story that deserves wider notice. Hope the movie is true to the account.
This is one of those movies that can shake the history to the core ! Brutally perfect ! The reality of war in front of your eyes, Human disaster of war effects, THIS IS OPEN EYES. GOD BLESS US ALL ! NEVER AGAIN !
"I'm Cook. I AM COOK!!!" Only people familiar with the cast will get this.
I'm 15 years old.
And I am Japanese.
I Apologize, Japan was bad.
Mr.Zamperini is great man.
Wow! Even the trailer is inspirational!
In real life Louis Zamperini was a born-again Christian who was associated with Billy Graham. I wonder if the filmmakers will conveniently forget and omit this important detail!!!!!
Yes. It will be very interesting if they do add this detail. I also wonder if they will follow the book and tell about his life after he was released from the POW camp. Or if it is just based around the POW camp.
***** yeah my family didn't come to this country till '61 and all I know is that those old fashioned nut jubs believed in right and wrong and fought evil on both sides of the world. now, we would have a commission study it ask the UN to check it out and issue an apology for whatever we did to piss off someone so bad to attack us.
When I read the book i was thinking this would be a great movie. Please don't fuck this up. The book was one of the best I've read.
Movies are rarely as good as the original script of a book.
i read the book to its awesome
like you said hope the movie is the same way
Just finished the book. Incredible book. From what I am reading here the movie leaves out significant parts of his life post war, his alcoholism etc. Also I see the makeup isn't realistic showing the beards they grew & how emaciated they were.
I think all the knockers should remember that this film is about incredible ONE MAN who did not start the war or end it ,He was a hero and a christian who forgave the Japanese for what they did to him and his memory should be respected .RIP you were a wonderful man.
definitely watching this!
Just amazing. When you have the will of God you can do anything
I could be wrong but it looks like they show the whole movie in this trailer. I haven't read the book so I don't know what is gonna happenends, it would be better if they didn't show the crash for example. Just saying.
I really want to watch this movie!
Ive read the book and this trailer shows very (VERY) (emphasis on very) short parts of some of the story but the actual thing is much longer. Well at least in the book it is described with much more detail.
Thats why I never have see Titanic...because I know it sinks :)
Well, they did, so get over it...
Im literally watching the movie now, and no- it's an amazing experience. You have to watch it, absolutely inspiring and encouraging
This trailer gives away the whole story practically!
Never despair, Never surrender.
- Alan Moore
Why so much hate for this movie? I mean it is just showing how an Olympic sprinter overcomes being a POW and surviving whats thrown in front of him... and anyways this happened when we were in war with Japan, and is not made up. :/
Jack and Miyavi in one movie. My life is complete ;-;
This trailer gives me chills ... Gotta see it
This film was great. Very powerful and inspiring. I doubt it'll get nominated for an Academy Award. But if Angelina Jolie keeps making great films, she'll have a directorial award one day. Two thumbs up!
Tears in my eyes by the end of the trailer..
If you can take it , you can make it .!
Oscar buzz for Jack O'Connell
This movie actually looks really good!
No one else is freaking out over the fact that Miyavi is in this? No? Just me? Okay.
Not just you!
Who among us can show this level of courage, determination, endurance in pain?
The thing that makes me the most interested in watching this is actually the lead actor Jack O'Connell. A very talented young actor with heaps of potential.
Great trailer vs great movie 😱😢😫😫😫 ,I'm cry
Stop all the conflict and just look at Jack O'connell's beautiful face
la vi hace unos meses y tengo ganas de volverla a ver, recomendable
I thought this movie was riveting..very well made..couldn't believe he survived everything..amazing man..great job Angelina...
The book was truly incredible, I hope the movie doesn't ruin it....
This movie inspired me ❤ it was just so good 😭❤ if you haven't already watched it then go watch it!! 💘
I am reading the book now..and now I am convinced to watch this epic movie. ❤❤❤
Miyavi, you rock.
JACK OCONNELL I LOVE YOU OMG
This one is going to be SO good!!
i just finished the book. I highly recommend to all. the trailer looks good but there is so much captivating description and dialogue in the book that I find it hard to believe the movie could capture it all, unless it is a four hour movie. having said that, a condensed version could still make for a inspiring movie.
Looks like another solid movie about The Greatest Generation. I'm pumped!
I didn't realize it was the guy who played Cook in Skins who is the main character!!!!
Haha, it took me some time too :) I loved his character in Skins.
***** I did too! He was one of my favourite characters out of all the seasons. He's taken a huge jump from being in skins to this! I'm really excited to see him in this movie! :)
if you like him, watch a film called starred up, amazing film with him in it, hes the main character, british prison film, its so good
I heard his performance is amazing. He's up for a BAFTA award today for it. Can't wait to see the film.
This movie looks really amazing and deep but ... But is that miyavi? Like miyavi ? MIYAVI!!!?? Oh my.
Yuno Naoki Yes, that is absolutely Miyavi. =)
+Gabriel ArchAngel you are a horrible human being. Go crawl back under your rock or your mommys basement
ก็ดีเหมือนกัน
i want to watch this now
All the way from Portugal, I somehow love Japan of today. A country that keeps teaching me a lot.
You guys can trash all you want...but who is doing what today matters more to me then who and why did what. Move on and try to NOT repeat on the same mistakes.
Portugal colonialized Africa.
You should reflect on that.
From Japan
I know that and we cannot go back in time. Portugal was the first to abolish slave trade and many people follow suit so it was not all bad. Now to the big question for you, where is the slavery today? Mostly in Asia and its not in Japan, it is in China, Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia, India etc. Is that not a more interesting thing to debate? I mean its happening NOW.
I can't wait to see Jack O'connell's performance in this!
Jack Won BAFTA :)
this was such a good movie. very inspiring.
I see this movie as a rebel who starts to become better by being a runner and becomes a champion and after that's done he joins the army and their plane crashes on a deserted island but they find a way off the island by building the raft and they end up in a Japanese camp where they are forced to work but the main character does not follows the rules and learns from his experiences there. so that's why this movie i believe is worth watching because it called unbroken because even though their were a lot of thing that were trying to break him like being a rebel, getting stranded, and the Japanese camp he still didn't let that get the best of him and instead he let it help him become a better and changed man.
Gave me goosebumps
This film is the epitome of "boy that escalated quickly"
Can't wait to watch this
this is the best movie i've ever seen
Awesome book! Will see it on Christmas day. I hope she stayed true with the story.
I might read the book of this and Seabiscuit.
I know what my Christmas movie is gonna be this year.
I Salute to the Great American Athlete 🇺🇲

yeah I gotta get started on that book!!!
I read the book. It was one of the best books I've ever read. A real triumph of the human spirit.
Miyavi!!!! You are awesome!!!!
Definitely gonna watch because the storyline is actually really interesting!!! Cant wait to watch it and see miyavi in it as well!!!!
It was a good movie and inspiring, don't be afraid to watch it, it's in redbox
this movie is a masterpiece
I'm reading the book right now. I can't wait to see this movie cause the book is great!!
how is this angelina's fault? its history. mistakes were made. deal with it
Felecity Rex It actually did. It's a true story.
Not mistakes, intentional crimes against humanity. Angelina told the truth and Japan had better deal with it or China will deal with it for them. Japan had better take responsibility for WWII as Germany did.
Hanno Phoenicia Its sad that most of the non asian countries dont even aware of what Japan did during WWII against the asian countries ...Once they do some research, they will realize It wasnt so different with what Nazi did.
Its not history as it happened. Yet another Hollywood film which depicts East Asians as cruel torturers (Pearl Harbour, Deer Hunter, etc)
mshara1 Im keep seeing people saying that never happened, but im pretty sure that actually happened and it was probably much worst then what it's shown in the movie .. most of the East Asian countries, we have been through that stuff during Wll, therefore we know how Japanese were capable of and not even surprising to see this kind of movie coming out.
