Drive to survive producers are screaming right now.
Well they found the perfect beginning for the next season.

That was the first thing I thought of
Drive To Survive To Survive
No, they've just found their new full time presenter 😎
A few weeks ago P1 announced that they are hiring. Then Guenther and Hass part ways. P1 with Matt and Tommy and Guenther has a ring to it.
Make this happen!
Fookin' hell Gene, P1 is hiring, I can't say no

Hell yeah at least get him on a podcast :P
I have tinnitus so Guenther joining Matt and Tommy wouldn't sound any different to me, just one long beeeeeeeeeppppp.
Tommy definitely found the fountain of youth

I would watch this.
Please give us this
I would actually consider watching that.
The Guenther Show just needs to be him doing things around his house.
This or a show where Guenther drives around with Mattia Binotto.
@@TheIppo1000 I was thinking about something like that show where Ozzy Osbourne wandered around his house and shouted about his burrito.

The problem, for Haas, is that Ghunter did almost everything, including making deals with sponsors, that saved the team from closing, more than once. The new principal does not have that same profile, so it will end that Gene has to do it himself, or putting someone as CEO that does that.
And that costs money, and Gene does not want to spend money with the team, that is the kernel of their problems.
Haas announced they are going to put in place a Chief Operating Officer to run non-race related activities - which would likely include sponsor deals. Komatsu as Team Principal will only be running race related functions.
Reading some of Gene's comments it reads like he wants results and improvements without putting in the extra cash needed to make that step up - the statement on the new TP was all about delivering within the existing structure, existing facilities and with efficiency etc - maybe Steiner called him out that if he wants to move up the grid the cash needs to reflect that desire and they clashed on that basis so they split ways...
I'd assume Steiner had a substantial salary. Cutting the fat from there to re-invest it, when he wasn't doing a great job makes sense to me.
@@Moray2023 sure but that salary is a drop in the ocean compared to the money needed to get Haas anywhere the top of the grid. 100% agree that the team have been treading water under Steiner's leadership for a number of years, but just not sure Gene Haas is actually making the changes needed to move the team anywhere meaningful.
Or Gunter wanted more money, that Gene wasn't willing to provide. Last year they had a falling out about Gunter owning a percentage of the team. There was nearly a lawsuit about it. Perhaps Gunter brought that up again and Gene is now really making sure the answer is "no".
@@SPeeSimonI heard it here first. You might be right.
Yeah, socked Gunther was actually trying to do something right for once
Tommy's hair makes this news acceptable somehow..so cute
HAAS staff only found out half an hour before the announcement went public which was a supprise to us all too :D
Wow, hope everything goes well for you guys at HAAS with what seems to be a restructuring!
Respect man good luck in the future
Somehow this doesn't surprise me
Goes to show you how cancerous this team is. They are all talk, meanwhile they treat their employees hardly better than McLaren did in 2018
end of an era 😢
Truly. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for both parties.
Era of being shite ⛳
@@Chip_inSteiner wasn't the Problem. Gene Haas didn't want to invest. Still doesn't. That was the Problem and still is.
Wtf the official RUclips account
An era of incompetence and stupid means. Haas needs quality or they will be bottom-feeders forever. Even Williams was not this embarrassing.
They especially need to dump crasher Slowkenberg who was clearly Gunter's favorite. He's so terrible.
Imo this is a sign of 1 of 2 things:
1.) They know they are crap and panic fired him which is just gonna cause general instability in the team until they eventually pack it up and quit
2.) Steiner was fed up/saw where it was going and decided to sod off before it got worse
They're literally in a legal battle over Steiner's partial ownership of the team with gene haas. Steiner has been saying for the past 2 years that if Haas wants to improve, they need a huge budget increase. Gene isn't willing to provide it. Steiner is sick of it and not just towing the line anymore, so Gene fires him.
you forgot (3): Maybe Guenther wasn't as great of a team principal as all of us would like to believe.
I have a feeling this might be the last season for Haas in F1
yeh its possible, the fact in a "hype" era that Gene hasnt been able/wanted to get some bigger sponsors in is weird, think Gene might sell before 2026
Sell it to Andretti!!! But Gene seems like the type to have too high of an asking price.
Why? Merely existing as an F1 team is a quickly appreciating asset. Haas' monetary evaluation will continue to just sky rocket. Owning one of ten slots in a closed championship is massively lucrative.
@@JW-qf2fx You say that but they were right on the cost cap in 2023.
@@GloomGaiGar yeh but the top few employees dont count in the cap, the upper teams pay a LOT more for there top few and getter better quality for it. Plus facilities, development, working conditions etc are definitely better at other teams. Add in to that that they want the team to make a profit, the more big sponsors, the more of everything they will attract. Engine deals, home tracks - they need to build for a long time to achieve it and that takes money. They be "up to the cap" yet they have a fraction of the employees and talent pool
Sooo... This means Guenther is finally available for that in-depth sit down interview with P1?
Everyone is forgetting the amazing start to DtS with Guenther and Matthias driving through the mountains... they need to be given the greenlight to produce a Netflix travel show!
Agreed
The news were so left field in the middle of winter break, that Tommy didn't even have time to tidy up his hair 😅
Love Guenther. To be honest I am surprised he lasted as long as he did as Gene Haas has a habit of sacking top members from his Indy and NASCAR teams with immediate effect. I did read a Autosport article a few months ago that Netflix was touting a new series revolving around Steiner. Of course he could be the team Principle for Tommy's and Matts new owner driver formula E team.
Günter en Mattia are finally going on that road trip in that yellow Fiat.
The clip of Gunther and Mattia driving down the country side hits hard now. 🎶“I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again.” 🎶
Gene has to go for Haas to succeed. I only watched the first 2 seasons of DTS but a team owner who is constantly on the phone demanding results whilst refusing to put additional funding into HIS team is the most frustrating and demotivating work environment i can imagine. Im amazed that guenther hadn't left on his own accord already.
I don’t think this is an accurate representation of Gene. He funded millions out of his own pocket when the team lost sponsorships.
This is a 100% accurate depiction of Gene
@@mycorvettelife Investing millions out of his own pockets is expected of him as team owner tbh. If he wasn't prepared to do this then he shouldn't have bought an F1 Team.
My frustration with Gene is that he will cry about not being competitive... I don't know what makes him think they should be competitive! He's running a B-spec 1 year old Ferrari, with zero upgrades across a 23 race long season, fighting against the most competitive midfield in F1 history.
win or lose this feels like maybe a sale is on the cards before 2026- gut feeling
Gene Haas wants Red Bull performance on minimal budget, which he isn't going to get. Trying to squeeze champagne from a lemon is impossible.
I believe Gene Haas is wanting to make changes overall to his racing programs. I know you may not follow, but his NASCAR program under Stewart-HAAS Racing is going through some changes, as they have not been very competitive the last few seasons in NASCAR as well. I’m wondering if Gene is seeing Andretti as a threat, and needs to make changes now. I know Andretti isn’t in NASCAR, but I have a feeling Spire Motorsports in a few years will be rebranded to Andretti, and as Americans, we know Andretti wants to win at anything he gets involved in.
True
It is a shock - yes, Haas have been struggling, but Williams showed what could be done with a long-term plan.
And feel for Conor Moore - one of his best impressions...gone!
Long term plan with investment*
Williams also proved that positive leadership is more effective than what we’ve seen from Steiner.
Williams didn't make progress until they received investment. Resta left because Gene wanted an RB clone without the suspension setup instead of developing what they had, which was a car which could get to q3 but would cook its tyres. They could have had a decent season with their driver experience advantage compared to others at the back..
As a team principal he does not seem to be able to steer the team in a better direction.
As a character and TV personality, he is fantastic.
If the team owner won't cough up any more investment in the cars but expect the team principle to fix things out of thin air, what do you expect?
Idk if he's decent as team principal or not. How much better would Totto or Horner do?
Haas is broken, you just can't compete consistently without investment
@@mikehipperson Williams are on just as small of a budget if not smaller and so what get result's.
@@MiniOne82that’s incorrect. That was the case before Dorilton bought the team from the Williams family and look how bad they were at the end under the Williams family on a tight budget. Now they have money they’ve started moving forward again.
its always talked about whether Gene stays in the sport/funding a low performing team, this might be his crack at improving and building, or improving and looking to sell. It might be good old fashioned cost cutting and restructuring too
As much as I'll miss him, he had to go. Like Matt and Tommy said, Haas weren't going anywhere, and he kept promising things that never materialised.
edit: well I started a fight in the comments
thats not at all how it happemed though. haas put out a statement saying guenter wanted more imvestment and to upgrqde their facilities and Gene Haas refused, so Guenter left
@@StarForgedTCG Fair point, but I don't see how that alone would cause him to leave though.
@@appletree13 he was tired of taking blame for something he had no control of
And that was his fault? Even Ferrari are under performing. I dunno, seems like an investor didn’t like him.
Haas will still not be going anywhere.
Guenther became bigger than the team, and when a team's name is that of it's owner, that means Guenther got too much press, Now he's on his own. Not sure if it's good or bad for Haas, but they really underwhelmed last season.
The context I understood was that Guenther wanted more investment so they could perform better, and Gene wanted more performance with zero additional investment. Ayao claimed he could get better results with what they already have.
Riffing on some old kids books we could have “what Gunter did” and “what Gunter did next” as spin-offs. I don’t see him going to Sky, they’re wall to wall with ex-driver pundits. I wonder what the phone call home was like… “I look like a fekkin’ arsehole over here”… Long live Gunter and his unique form of communication.
Is it just me, or is it too late in the off-season to make this move. The season ended over 6 weeks ago and the guy they're bringing in will have that much less time to effect change. All I can figure is that perhaps they planned on keeping Gunter and there was a blow-up between him and Haas due to some difficulty in getting the 2024 car ready..
Maybe it's simple as Guenther and engineering had a disagreement and Haas chose engineering's side?
Realistically, no matter when during the off-season they would have made this move, expecting any immediate changes in results for the next season would be delusional. The new car would have been in developement since somewhere around late summer. F1-Teams are slow ships to steer because they're so complex.
omg tommy's hair!!! dont ever change it
According to rumors, the split may be more financial than performance-related.
Steiner has been with Haas since the beginning, but never acquired any shares.
F1 teams in general have increased in value significantly in recent years, and according to some reports, Steiner wanted his own "piece of the pie".
Gene Haas is said not to have liked his team principal's financial ambitions, which ultimately led to Steiner's immediate dismissal.
Give Gunther a show where he travels from race to race, doing where to stay and where to eat. The best at the track team hospitality venues. Babes at the track. How to best get there, etc. GOLD!
Could we be seeing the start of Haas -> Andretti/Haas -> Andretti Motorsports
HAAS was doing better in the earlier years when they were basically buying the previous years Ferrari.
With the restrictions on parts sharing HAAS still buys as much as they can from Ferrari, but also out-sources car fabrication to Dallara. They don't actually have a factory, and thats a huge part of the reason why Haas is so slow with upgrades.
So I'm not sure what Guenther could have done? Gene needs to actually give the team the money to make the facilities to improve the car on their own, rather then relying on third parties.
Great point. Remember when Torro Roso was just running Red Bull's car and was doing well and each time they change the rules it makes Haas and Alpha Tauri worse because they didn't or don't have the facilities to support developing their own unique car design.
I dont think firing Steiner will affect Haas positively. Gene Haas makes it no secret that he does not want to invest and Steiner was critical.
Remember he was threatening to sue Haas for a partial stake in the team because it inflated in value after the cost cap started
I'm gonna miss hearing him complain about having to "talk to Gene"
Hass were surprisingly ok when they entered in 2016. Grosjean was 6th in Australia then 5th in Bahrain.
5:11 we missed out on that. Dts should’ve been around when Paul Stoddart was still there… I still sometimes rewatch his interview with Jack Plooij from Indy ‘05, just for a laugh. He really let it rip!
the only piece of Haas merchandise I own is the don't fok smash my door with guenthers face on it. He came across as genuine and doesn't hold back which is great viewing
The door has been slammed on Guenther, "effective immediately" agreed sounds like something went down and they aren't seperating on good terms.
As much as I like Guenther, I don't really see the team moving forward at this point while he's still at the helm. It's just too much treading water. I like Komatsu and I hope he can make good changes at the team but given their problems I won't hold my breath. I would not be surprised if Gene ends up selling the team since it seems like he was never really interested in it much to begin with other than using it as advertising for his CNC business.
Good luck in your next endeavor, Guenther.
You guys need to sign him up pronto!
Saw a rumor Guenther had argument with Haas over lack of investment in the team or possibly Andretti is planning on buying the team idk. Whether or not that’s true I feel Haas will continue to struggle being one of the few teams left that doesn’t operate anywhere near the budget cap
Tommy is looking so relaxed and confident now. So looking forward to next season. Well done boys!
Steiner to Andretti? I can see him running the new team once they add it shortly. America market has proven to be too strong to ignore.
Steiner was on the NASCAR broadcast for the COTA race. He does well on commentary
My understanding is that Gene Haas has NOT been pumping money into the team and that is a large cause of their issues.
At the end of the day they aren't going anywhere unless Gene invests in the team, the engineering side of the team is a mess, yeah it got the team going from scratch buying everything off the shelf but now it just isn't good enough, they've been eating their tyres badly for about 5 years now & hasn't improved. They brought one big update all year & it made them slower.
Agreed. I give them credit for over performing their staff and budget but when the car is eating tires and your solution is to promote the technical director and chief designer of that car it's a questionable decision. On the tech side it is interesting to see Williams go the old Jordan route of low-drag / high speed and wait for certain situations to allow them to shine while Haas goes full tire-eating one-lap pace hoping for a couple of points hauls at rain effected races or during sprint weekends.
Early prediction:
Since Andretti is still kind of fighting for a place on the grid against most of the current teams, they need all the backing from the FIA and the PUBLIC as well.
So Gunther as team principal would seem as a good fit.
Also he is experienced with managing a newcomer team on the grid.
Can I please point out, this video being on the trending list, AND, you guys are outperforming SKY SPORTS’S video on the same subject TWO FOLD. So proud. Love you guys
As one of the rare HAAS fans out here I will mourn briefly for the only Principal we've ever had. But I look forward to what it brings. Ayao is at least a familiar face but would love to see someone like Mattia come back for a season - but it doesn't really work like that in F1 does it? like in American football with coaches and coordinators as such?
Guenther will always have a position in F1 people will remember with smiles because the guy was always 100% real like it or not. I mean, who will forget "Fok Smash Door" ~ it's legendary. Maybe it's what needs to happen just to get a spark from this pool of fluids called a racing team.
The Race's video on it helps explain the move in great detail
Netflix show idea for Guenther:
"After the Lap: The Guenther & Frederic Food Journey" features the former F1 team principals exploring global cuisines and cultures in their post-racing life, driving an array of quirky local cars through each destination's unique landscapes and streets.
He surprises everyone and becomes the Racing Director of the return to the WRC of Scuderia Lancia, thanks to his ties with Fiat, him being Italian and the new ruleset for 2025
Wasn’t there a Gunther / Gene dispute a few months ago about the ‘team ownership’, Gunther claiming he is 50% owner? Was this ever resolved?
This hurts more than my dad leaving when I was 5.
Im not surprised hes going back to wrc .in a different role between one of the 3 teams toyota gazoo racing, hyundai motorsport or m-sport ford wry. He was in with ford in wrc at the start of the focus wrc in 1999
Well.. Drive to Survive won't be the same again.. He was one of the highlights of that show.. Gonna miss him
I love that there are more comments about Tommy's hair than Guenther leaving.
Ayao Komatsu will be taking over as team principal he been with them since 2016 & Been in F1 for long time
The thing is that if Haas finishes in 2024 in P9, it will still be an improvement. I don't think Haas was ever going to expect to be champions any time soon, but ending dead last was probably also not in their mind. Especially since AlphaTauri and Williams were for a long time occupying those last two places in 2023, they both found a path forward, Haas seems to go backwards every year. I think it was that P10 in end, that put things in motion with Gene...
Maybe Steiner "smashed" Gene's "f%#%ing door!" 🤣
Hopefully he still stays somewhat involved within f1. Mb attends a few races and what not. Hopefully they also still occasionally pop up on dts. Also i feel the idea of “left” is probably gene being like “gunther we r gonna fire you but you can leave so it doesnt look as bad to the media.”
A Japanese TP brings the possibility of Honda also joining Haas. They are already partnering with AM in 26 so why not haas too.
Haas not going anywhere is no fault of Gunther or Simone Resta. Its entirely down to Gene not investing in the team. If they don't already, they'll very soon have the worst facilities in F1, with no plans to upgrade them, an outdated structure around development of parts and an over-reliance on Dallara and Ferrari that is going to put a relatively low ceiling on their potential performance. It's sad were losing Gunther as he's a breath of fresh air to the paddock - not afraid to call it like he sees it or who he rubs the wrong way. He's not my cup of tea but removing him and Resta and replacing them with a "yes" man is not going to improve the situation IMO.
No more doors will be fok smashed 😢
Thing is Gene Haas wasn't investing in the team anymore and Gene doesn't care all that much driving at the back it seems. Because he now appointed a new team principle, but that same guy also said earlier that this car can work with the current components. Which sounds ludicrous to me since they are just using ferrari parts in some form (and look at where ferrari are...)
#GuentherForFiaPrez - Let's get it done!!! That would be just incredible!
Tommy’s son doing great co hosting during the winter break.
Hardly surprising, they've only gone backwards. The only reason he lasted this long is because he became a meme. How Gene Haas didn't bin him 2 years ago is beyond me.
It's still the same people working at the lower level. And those are the ones that have the most responsibility for how the car performs. Changing the team principal isn't going to fix the car. When Ferrari replaced their team boss I expected that he will clean house and kick out the strategy team. Clearly that didn't happen and it's still the same chaos troop that plans and executes the strategy. You can change team principles as much as you want. They are not the ones that design and build the car, that do the aero, etc. etc. They are an easy scapegoat to blame when things don't go as they should. Haas isn't suddenly going to spend a lot more money on engineers and hire them away from good teams.
@@cidiracing7481 Well the tech director has gone too. And they are both responsible for hiring and retaining the people below them who are not performing. Ferrari is a little different as it's huuuge and highly political. The strategy director is probably married to John Elkan's cousin or something, who knows 😆 ?
Watch The Race’s video in all honesty I like Matt and Tommy but they did fuck all research into this before making the video. Steiner wanted more investment into the team because their facilities are no where near good enough at the moment for them to make progress. Gene on the other hand was pretty much saying he doesn’t really care for Haas to go further up the grid and that they can make a better car without investing anymore money into the team which lead to this break up. None of which was mentioned in the video just talk about DTS. I’m not hating on Matt and Tommy but I’m just pointing out they completely looked over why this happened
@bm8725 They can only hire who is within the budget that Haas gives them. Gene is known for being stingy with money and wanting to spend as little as he can on the F1 team. That's how they ended up with a Russian flag on 4 wheels.
@@cidiracing7481 Re. Ferrari: Fred did change the strategy team. Rueda was removed from the position of head of strategy before the 23 season, and he has now left SF completely.
I would like Gunther Steiner on Dutch tv! And I really think it could work.
I think it was at Las Vegas when Steiner announced that he (and someone/a group, can't remember) had pitched an idea to Netflix or some other streaming service. He wasn't meant to be in it but more like a producer. Maybe Haas got ticked off about it?
Also, the fact that Gene Haas is renowned for being stingy with the finances (especially his taxes...), and demands ridiculous results without wanting to pay for them, makes me wonder if a failing F1 team will be his biggest tax write off? I'm actually being serious, though it's just a thought, *not* an accusation!
He doesn't want to sell the team, at least not to Andretti, though I think that's a nose removal to spite the visage job. 🤷🏻♀️
I don’t see a gunther episode this season of DTS. I think because it’s now pre season and not post season it will be covered early in the season coming after
I would like to see Guenther join Williams and work alongside James V…. Where the are the job seats to be filled.
I get the on track performance isnt there where Gene would like to see it, but for me he made that up in spades in PR, which lets be fair is the reason that sponsors are funding the team. Which is something the new principle is unlikely to bring, so then you have a team driving about at the back without any of the positive PR attention that Guenther brought. I mean if they ware serious about the team performance, how about creating the infrastructure to actually compete with the top of the midfield, AKA dont live on buying as many parts as you can and operating from 1000 locations without even meeting the budget cap.
Based on reports I think it's the other way around, I think Guenther pushed Gene for more investment and Gene said no to the point the relationship broke down.
Would love to see Gunther as an interviewer/expert in Drive to Survive
Tommy lookin fresh
Günther is not leaving, he was left... But looking at how Haas was going the last few seasons, I guess it's the right choice if they want to get better again.
There was a report from last year where Guenther and Gene were reportedly fighting. Over Guenther supposedly being given 50 percent ownership in the team.
I cant believe this is happened.. the one person that kept DTS alive...
He wasn't the team boss. He was the meme boss.
Wait for the Conor Moore short! It is going to be EPIC!
They can start to follow Andretti entry into F1 and HAAS changes after Gunther... Maybe he will try Redbull job at Alpha Tauri...
I think Steiner wanted to change to streamline the process but gene wants full control of every aspect even though he wants a rolling advert board.
Could do a re-release of his seminal 2004 Ding Dong Song.
He did not see this coming!
I would love for him to find something in the paddock he is just a character that it's kinda difficult to imagine F1 without such a personality. Maybe in a year or two away from the drama he'll join one of the potential new team expected for 2026. But either way I would understand if he just step away and enjoy his life with is family.
Other medias are saying Guenther wants more investment, and Gene doesn't. So I really doubt Haas would make any improvement in the near future unless there are significant incoming funds from elsewhere.
One of my happiest days!!!!!
If not for DTS, Steiner would not have a fan base. For me it was some of my least favortite parts of DTS.
Every f1 channel push out this news podcast so fast !!

Guenther Steiner leaving Haas is the second shock I got today... The first being Tommy's hairstyle😅
I'm a little surprised nobody is connecting this to the rumor earlier in the year that Steiner was claiming he was promised a 50% stake in Haas, worth $900 million.
Omg this like a surprise with sadness with it
The DTS spinoff is Steiner and Binotto driving around Europe tasting wine and pasta while talking about the F1 season
Steiner at Alpine would actually boost ratings for that team. I mean he's more popular than all of their investors combined. Win?
The 2 football player guys are more popular
Tommy’s hairs looking great! Pulled a George Russell on us
from what ive heard, guenther wanted to push the team forwards, but gene haas is ok with the team being last, as long as he is making profit out of it.
