      Also one that could not get HAAS to perform better.. That's the only thing that really counts in a very competitive environment like F1, how you perform with the team, and that was not good for Guenther unfortunately..

    Reporter was digging but Guenther is world class. Sad to see him go but so happy to see him not lashing out and blaming anyone. Hope to see more of him around.

      I hate reporters who look for ghosts where there aren't any. Steiner gave an answer that essentially closes the chapter - It is Gene Hass' team, he can do with it as he sees fit. Any circumstances leading up to this becomes irrelevant. Steiners co tract was simply not extended. Why try force to get sleeze or criticism from Günther ?? This is cheap reporting from Sky Sports !!!

    Haas is gonna regret this, that guy raked in more fan support for that team than anybody else could and he deserves any respect that there is for loyally sticking with that team for so long without being given the tools to work with. That guy even held the team together when the Mazepins were having their fingers in there.

    Guenther really is a class act. He managed to be honest, diplomatic and upbeat even with the interviewer fishing for scandalous soundbites.

      The reporter was just doing his job. He asked questions most people are wondering about. Steiner gave his response and then the reporter moved onto his next quedtion. Why are people so easily offended when a reporter asks tough question to the main subject straight to his face? I felt Slater did this with respect too. No issue here for me.

    Had a chance to speak to Guenther off camera once at a sponsor event last year. This probably won’t surprise you, but he’s the exact same guy off-camera. Honest, funny, brilliant, and shows everyone the utmost respect. Please never change Guenther

      Maybe he is funny and a great guy, but many people are like that but terrible for the job that they must really do. I don't say that other TP have done it better than him in recent years but that team didn't accomplished something from their start and neither their future or perspective is looking bright.
      This change should have been come couple of years ago...

      Absolutely.... Guenter Steiner is one of the best man we like to hear, a strong professional, that will be desired for many teams. Professional and Kind, a good comunicator and ....a muche better Team will want him.
      I desire the BEST for him...and Gene is just an Idiot without respect for the work and friendy relation that Guenter allways had with the team. The way he denied Gunter to say goodbye to theyr Team,,is a huge lack of respect and decency to a Team that worked with Guenter and LIKED Him. Gene Hass has NOT this kind of respect from the Team.
      WE Want You Guenter....Hope to see you soon back.
      As for Gene Hass...he can go away and he will not be remember after that.

    I have even more respect for Guenther given how he handled all of this. Talk about bowing out with integrity. His appreciation for the work everyone puts in is also admirable. Can't wait to see what comes next. And hell yeah, get him behind a mic!

      I even disagree with Binotto sacking, seems they are draining the swamp for USA F1 , which is money and not the love of the sport!
      commercialization is the death of F1. It has attracted fans because it is untainted , homogenise it and see it fall into obscurity.

    I've followed this sport almost my whole life, people come and go, some you miss, some you don't, Guenther is one I will miss and I'm very sure I join many others in thanking him for the joy he brought to our lives, and wishing him success and happiness in the future.

      For me Zak Brown is best team leader in last few seasons but I agree Guenther is the person everybody will miss. One of the coolest person in F1 not only in Haas Team his whole life is F1 and this decision is loss for sport and for enterteinment because sport is business but sport events are enterteinment for people.

    Of all the team principles/chiefs in F1 Guenther is a blast of fresh air, doesn't mix his words and did an amazing job with the tools/budget provided.

    That is the classical Italian defense. You cannot force Guenther to speak his mind. The interviewer was trying hard to get something spicy and sensational from Guenther , but he stood his ground

      Just goes to show how well he understood the assignment at Haas. There's nothing marketable/ remarkable there so he made a caricature of himself as the most "popular product". There's been so many challenger teams that failed in the last decades, Haas would have gone that way a while back if not for him. What's Gene gonna do to make his team relevant now? 😂

    Having personal met the man, this hurts, his a legend and his dedication to doing the very best with what his got was never easy, but he always made sure the mindset of the team was looking down the road, it seems Mr Haas wasn’t looking in the same direction. I actually pity whoever tries to fill those shoes. Thank you for the memories… Brazil 2022, will always go down as the day the underdog came to bite.

    Very well interviewed. Keep the flow. Stretched some touching boundaries without annoying Guenther. Also reminding him of the great performances he and the team have done in the past. It was a super tentative and difficult interview and both of these gentleman managed it like the true professionals they are with the world watching. Well done.

    Love the number of subtle flexes in this interview from Guenther! He might be a character to most in F1 but make no mistake Hass would be nowhere and will likely go nowhere without him. Lets wait and see who sponsors the car in 2025.

      Where were they going with him? Qualifying well and disappearing in the race has been a Haas trademark practically since the Rich energy saga.
      Gene is a great character, he did a great job starting the team, but never took it better than the highs of their 2nd or 3rd season.
      Only thing wrong here, is the way this was handled.

    What a legend, as a older fan of F1, that has not really watched the netflix show, I must say based on this interview and what I seen on the races, hes a really good guy and very professional. Maybe Gene just needed some change in the team, but definitely hope hes back soon in F1.

    I will miss this man. I’m a Mercedes fan at heart but I always rooted for Haas.
    Gunther brought a lot of exposure to the team which I hope translated to strong sponsorship. It’s a pity other parts of the team didn’t work in his favor.

    That has been the most professional I have Steiner ever seen 😂. He is taking it very well, even if he might be fuming internally, but he is completely right, one door closes and another one opens. He did a lot of good stuff and who knows, maybe GM/Cadillac will join F1 and will need a team principal to build something up.

    Gene Haas is not invested in F1 as much as the team deserves (finances are just one aspect). It’s a shame a team handled like Haas is able to stay in F1 while truly passionate aspiring teams like Andretti are held back. Haas is nothing but wallpaper and a billboard for gene

    Going to miss him. alot. Not only in DTS, but also the pre/post/inter-race interviews; Always straight answers, completely natural. Hope to see him back on the grid very soon, regardless of his wishes to spend family time and travel.

    This incredibly classy and endearing gentleman is so genuine. Now finally those who let him go will have a chance to actually see the respect he has garnered. It's respect and admiration not "celebrity". The F1 community loves Guenther for who he is. Not only for his level-headed and positive outlook, which I'm sure wasn't easy in several situations he has been placed in, but he always remains true to himself and has trusted his own knowledge despite the pressure certain benefactors tried to twist his arm and all the pressure placed on him. Go climb your favourite mountain, Guenther and appreciate the views as you always have! ❤

    As much as the reporter was digging, you could feel the respect and support he gave Gunther almost comforting him each time he asked a question.

    One of my favourite team principals aside Jean Todt and Ron Dennis. That’s how highly I rate him. Such a shame he is no longer in Haas, but hopefully this won’t be the end of him in F1. I was shocked to see the news when it was released and it’ll definitely make DTS very difficult to watch without him being the star of the show. He is a remarkable individual and an all-round good bloke. All the best, Guenther. 🙏

      ⁠@@djoetma Maybe his success as a WRC co-driver, success as a team principal in WRC, Paris/Dakar, Pikes Peak, Le Mans and of course his somewhat successful stint at Ferrari?
      Maybe Leinad also respected Todt for his time as FIA President or his work as special envoy in the UN?
      As you outlined, he never had a lot to say in the press but there again the most successful people I know tend to let their deeds do the talking.
      TBH I can’t think of any F1 TP who has achieved more in motorsport than JT.

      @@djoetma surely all those achievements are exactly why the OP likes JT as a TP?
      I can’t think of anyone who has built successful teams across so many series or appears to have survived 40 years in motorsport politics and has kept his reputation in tact.
      Doing what he did at Peugeot in the WRC was impressive but to follow that up with his tenure at Peugeot in Le Mans and of course to be at the helm for 6 consecutive F1 championships at Ferrari to me shows exceptional leadership skills over a very long period of time across multiple series each needing very different disciplines. Just my 2 cents.
      Out of interest, who is your no.1 TP?

      @sultanoftippoo3857 I don't know, that's why I asked him. Also, I don't think having an impressive palmares per definition is reason to like someone.
      F.e. one of the more recent principles I liked was Abiteboul because he had interesting insights to share during interviews and he always was 'just' an engineer and later on a policy maker.

    Class act! Very smart and measured on all his responses and statements. Gene Haas strikes me as a typical businessman, no loyalty to anyone if it doesn’t financially benefit him. Gunther will be back in F1 if he wants to be. 💪

    Guenther is the man. From what I can tell, he is very well respected within the F1 community and rightfully so. He is intelligent, humble and competitive. He also seems like a good guy who is probably pretty fun to party with. Everyone respects the job he was able to do with limited resources. Any team will be lucky to have him.
