man, i never knew how much we should appreciate our knees until I got into my 40s. Watching your boys jump off the rocks hurt my knees just imagining it. Oh to be young. I also am so envious of this generation, having parents who will be filming everything, whether it be on a phone or camera. My dad didn't record many videos from my youth so I don't really have any look back into those moments. It is so special, rather, WILL BE so special to look back on one day. They'll love it one day. Their KIDS will love it one day. It's awesome.
This is what create the meaning of our lives Benj, the unknown of what you are going to end up photographing but the sure thing is 95% of the frames are going to include the family and the kids. When i see my kids photos through time brings my joy and happiness. Our kids will appreciate it and we get to realize how they grew up over time. Very beautiful presentation and can't agree more with what you said here.
Great Video Ben there’s nothing like some family time and great photos to remember them by. This is also a reminder to be inspired anywhere you are in the world
@@benjhaisch it’s hard to find. The hot spring near it is easy though. And allows access to the ocean (in a bay) which is very nice to cold dip in between hot tub
Nice video and story - inspires me to take my Pocket Osmo 3 with me to Italy later this month! I like the background music too, and the slow-mo close ups of the waterfalls are beautiful.
It's kind of funny the things you remember as a kid, some things just don't have enough context for you yet but you appreciate later or small simple things will stand out like jumping off rocks. But a lot of those trips are things I enjoy still as an adult. I also know people that just go to theme parks or cruises and don't even consider going to national parks or getting out into nature because that's not what they were exposed to.
Damn, this video really hit home. As a dad who loves an adventure, I’ve had to really temper my expectations of how my kids will react to these kinds of trips. The lack of care was frustrating at first but I’ve had to readjust and remember to just take it in and live in the moment and not get frustrated about it. Really good one @benjhaisch
Oh boy this is an incredibly well put together video! Love the memories your family must have from these kinds of trips. But DUDE how heavy is your bag?!?!? I couldn't fathom taking four bodies on a trip with me!
@@benjhaisch hahah I would hope not! Even for my flights! I don’t trust putting my gear in checked bags so all my carry on luggage is SUPER heavy and that’s just two aps-c Fuji bodies!
Amazing video, and Oslo really has a good eye despite photography not being their favorite hobby (for now). This year, I'll be heading to Iceland in the summer for two weeks, and I was torn between the M11, the X-Pro3, and the X-T4. However, I'm hesitant about the M11 because I'm concerned that temperature changes, fog, or water from waterfalls might damage it. Could I get your feedback on this? Thanks!
I’ve had my Leicas in some pretty crazy situations over the years and they’ve taken some pretty heavy rain without much issue. I wouldn’t recommend it, but they can take more than you’d expect.
Island has become like a tourist hotspot. Thousands are running to the exact same locations. Never been there, but I know a dozen of locations already by heart. Same mountain, same crashed plane on the beach, same cascade, geysir etc... Same for Lofoten.
Gorgeous! How was the A9iii as a video camera? Any problems with overheating etc? I can live with the base iso of 2000 but overheating shooting 24/25p not so much.
@@benjhaisch only some minor complaints about higher frame rates which is expected and totally acceptable to me. But there are so few people here on RUclips who use the camera primarily for video so it’s hard to know.
I really prefer square format, anytime ! And ideally with film, as color films have a lot of personality, and b&w films are so interpretable according to our visual tastes
especially in the cities during our time in Norway and Denmark, I tossed those 1:1 overlays on the Hasselblad and it was a dream to use and compose in that format that I'm very familiar with.
Lovely work and narrative per usual! Unsolicited request, but I would love to see your workflow on creating videos like this. Montage your clips and photos and voiceover. I know there might be other videos like this online, but I’d like it from your perspective. Thanks again for sharing! 📷 ❤
Probably hard to make sense of all that to be honest. I just knew I wanted to combine both mediums in a video, so at all times [see my cameras getting stolen video haha] I'd carry the A9III [usually with the 16-35/4PZ] and either the Hassy or Leica with me. Once I got back home, I found some music that felt right for the clips, then tried to put something together that told the story a bit and mixed the photos and videos together. I actually uploaded this video about 3 weeks ago and kept watching it thinking it was missing something. That something was the narrative aspect that a bunch of pretty photos and videos just couldn't provide. That's when I decided to do the voiceover. One take, just play the video and add a bit of "director's commentary" as it were with no script or pre-planned bits, just what the video brought to my mind as I watched it. Which definitely has informed the other videos that I've been putting together from this trip as well. TBH, I figured this would be more for me and kind of a throwaway video, but it seems like people have been liking it at least a little bit more than I assumed. Hope that perspective helps :)
musicbed always comes through with legit music. I keep saying no to low level sponsorship offers from other companies because their selection is actually good.
Amazing shots! Thanks for sharing. When do you think you’ll come to Asia and take some shots? China/ Japan has some beautiful scenery to check out if you can. 🙏

Great video, Benj! Such beautiful scenes and really loved the personal touches. Wondering how you decided when to shoot with the Leica M11, and when to shoot with the Hasselblad 907x? Did you carry both on you most of the time? Thanks!
Awesome video. How is Iceland during peak times like this? I was lucky enough to be able to go, quite shortly after they reopened post/still-during-ish Covid. When we would drive from spot to spot, even if it was an hour on the main highway, we would only pass maybe 1 or 2 other vehicles. The camp sites were less than half full. Maybe 15 or so other people total at the tourist sites (went to all the ones you showed in this video) I feel like we were so lucky. Bittersweet obviously. Global disease, economies weren't great. But that one 9 day stint was definitely a bright light in a not so great time.
There were spots that were busy, but nothing where it ruined the experience or anything. My first time in Iceland was 2015 in November and things were VERY different at all of these locations haha.
@@benjhaisch Yeah one of the owners of a Cafe we were in (the only ones there) said we had no idea what it's usually like. She said the year before Covid, the highway between I think it was Selfoss and Vik for example would have just been a line of cars the whole way on. Not traffic per se, but just a steady stream of tourists. It was beautiful.
I resonate with your comments about capturing family moments of young children. My family also just went to Iceland this summer and I love some of the photos I took and the memories made. I’m currently using my trusty Canon 6D, but want to upgrade to a new travel camera. The camera industry has made it so difficult for me to decide on what camera I want to get next. I have so much paralysis I ended up doing film photography with my father’s old Canon A1. I love that, but I can’t really capture good moments of my daughter running around with manual focus. I’ve used the R5 for work, but don’t want a “work camera”, but really want the quality and focal distance of a full frame camera. I’ve been considering the ZF, a7cr and lusting after the Q3. Could you help me narrow down? My local camera stores don’t have a ZF and don’t rent out the a7cr so I’m not sure what to do next.
Yeah, I think the hardest thing is finding a secondary camera that you'll actually want to pick up and use. It sounds dumb, but the looks of a camera actually do matter from that standpoint. While the A7CR is technically superior to the Q3, I find myself using it less for that purpose even though I adore the images out of it just because it's not as fun of an experience. Call me shallow, but it is what it is. It's part of the reason why myself and many others love the X100 series and the Fujifilm cameras. While I honestly like the images out of the A7CR more, I'm more often drawn to the X100VI just because of how it looks and feels in comparison. It's all a silly battle between the head and the heart for sure.
What camera is your kid wearing at 1:47? I have two boys (five and seven) and both love watching me taking photos. I would love two buy them cameras which they can grow into.
