  • I'll be showing you how to easily do internal battery repair on a Super Nintendo cartridge. This is a must if you are wanting to ensure you're wanting to ensure your save data is not lost in the future. The internal battery will hold a "Charge" for 8-12 years after that its a guessing game on when the battery will stop saving, these games are around 20 years old which means they all need to be replaced with new save batteries.
    If you are wanting to keep your current save file on snes game you will have to do some special tactics in order to make that work. I will sooner or later make a video showing how to do that without the use of a Retron V.
    What you will need.
    Soldering iron
    Solder
    2032 Battery w/ Special tabs for SNES / N64 Carts
    3.8 Nintendo Security Bit
    Hopefully this video helped you and if it did please drop a like and comment.

    I was going to do Chrono Trigger for the video but when I got half way through the cord got unplugged turning off my Camera.
    So I had to redo the video using Super Mario World. That's why the Thumbnail & Game in video is different but you can see CronoTrigger in the completed stack at (10:18).

    FYI: The CR2025 generally has a 165mAh and the CR2032 has a higher mAh of 225. So the CR2032 will last ~30% longer in the long run on average. And a new higher powered voltage regulator (L78S05CV) for your SNES will kill that white line going down the center of your screen, check Console5. Your factory one is on its way out.

    Very detailed and easy to understand. I am not a gamer at all. Just bought an original SNES and never new they had batteries to save in the game. This will help a lot if I have a game that needs this done.

    It was always nostalgic for me to fire up my Final Fantasy II cart and see my saves from the mid to late 90s. Last time I fired it up it went straight to a new game. Battery is replaced now but saves are gone unfortunately.

    Wearing rubber gloves, I used electrical tape to hold in the battery, after pecking out the old battery with a small flat-head screw driver. I don't know the long-term effects, but the game works and saves. I played hours of Pokemon Yellow with no issue.

    • @aidanmackenzie3421
      @aidanmackenzie3421 6 лет назад +8

      John Smith the problem with using electrical tape is if you don't do it correctly you could ruin the PCB with battery acid as the battery is not properly set in. With the battery not being set in properly. It cannot properly use the cool down feature. Therefore battery acid will leak into the Pcb ruining the game

    I'm not sure where you got the 10-12 year figure but most snes games still have working original batteries despite some games being more than 30 years old

    • @Ultimatelocke
      @Ultimatelocke  2 года назад +2

      That's not most games. The batteries inside of them only last 10-12 years because they have a lifespan. Yes some games still retain save files to this day but if you actively game on them you will likely lose your save file.
      Just because the battery holds a save in 2022 doesn't mean the battery is good. It's just holding a save and once you actually play it the game will die.

      If you're talking about eBay yes. eBay mail day 17 is already done. Chorno Trigger is actually from that episode.
      It will be released most likely 12 days from now. But I don't do local pick-up videos, if I do get a good local pickup it will be added to the eBay mail day.

    • @Ultimatelocke
      @Ultimatelocke  3 года назад +2

      1st off no drilling.
      Second, buy a new battery tab made for SNES / N64 games its like $5 on eBay.
      If you drill you will likely destroy the game because you will remove the positive/negative plating which makes the batteries work with the game.

    • @Ultimatelocke
      @Ultimatelocke  Год назад

      Yes and no. If your a boss you can replace the save battery while the game is turned on,. Then you will need to create a new save file and pray that the battery was not defective.
      Otherwise you need to find a method to backup your save file
      Example.
      Playing super mario world.
      While game is turned on. I desolder the battery.
      Replace battery. Now you need to save again because currently your save file has been "deleted" but because the game is still running you can simply save again and then the battery will hold that save file.

    Why wouldnt they make the batteries easier to replace and not use solder like that? They had to know those battiesr don't last forever even though they do last quite awhile but in the right environment they start to leak. Seems like everything is designed to fail these days.

      Definition "indefinitely" - for an unlimited or unspecified period of time.
      If you were to put this into a super Nintendo and play it for 4-5 hours the battery inside here would almost indefinitely die.
      So tell me what's wrong with that statement again?

    • @skip2mylizzle
      @skip2mylizzle Год назад
