    Terry Norris was a fun to watch fighter he would win or lose spectacularly but never in a dull manner . This fight was no exception

    I could watch this fight everyday. The supposed "Pound for Pound" king getting knocked flat by a jab.
    Norris was very good...but never as great as a lot of boxing fans/writers made him out to be.

    Man I remember Simon Brown . Hah wow haven't heard his name in decades . I remember really liking him as a sturdy fighter but I forgot about this one . Also forgot about Norris's chin , not the best . Wonder who came along and beat Brown and took the title from him ? . Watched all these fights with my dad years ago . Memories . Thanks !

    unbeaten 11 years. five division champion. Terry knew the odds against him but he faced it with the utmost confidence. he didnt even look the leat bit nervous during the intro. Ray was perfect in his last fight winning every round and no signs of slowing, using his lateral movement to perfection. Even tho Ray was a massive favorite against norris it was Norris who showed him who was boss by hurting him and by winning every round. this greatly discouraged Ray. Deep inside he knew he met his match

      LOVE BIG UPS 2 SUGAR RAY!! BUT I WAS GLAD WHEN NORRIS BEAT UP ON RAY!! RAY DIDN'T NEED THE DOUGH!! HAD HIS BRAINS STILL FUNCTIONING NORMAL, AND HAD HIS GOOD LOOKS!! HE WAS GREEDY 4 THE SPOTLIGHT!! HE HAD HIS DAY!! IT WAS NORRIS' TIME!!! BUT LOVE, AND ADMIRED SUGAR RAY LEONARD!! HE WAS 1 OF THE GREATEST!! BUT GLAD NORRIS BEAT HIM DOWN!!!

  • @littleprettyplp

    This fight was almost inexplicable for Norris. Brown was moving up, like a lot of his opponents but just seemed to hurt Terry with almost every clean punch he landed! To be honest, Norris made Brown look like Sugar Ray Leonard, PRIME in this one blessers!! Think he underestimated Mantequilla BIG TIME. Didnt make that mistake in rematch, which was NOT as widely publicised...

    Terry Norris was one of the most entertaining and destructive boxers of the 90's. He weren't the most sturdy but had a lot of heart and knocked out massive punchers himself. He deserves more consideration than other posters have given. Simon Brown was a tough and skilled former champ with plenty of scalps t his credit. Terry beat him in a rematch. To.mock the man like that; what makes you so superior?

  • @manos3790
    @manos3790 13 лет назад

    for some reason Norris had no punch resistance on this occasion? I don't recall it ever being evident again during his career?

  • @mp4vids
    @mp4vids 5 лет назад

    I knew that Simon was going to be a good challenge, but not getting a stoppage over Norris, When Norris went down from that shotgun jab and looked really stunned afterwards when he got up, I said to myself that he might not win and that's exactly what happened. In the rematch, Norris boxed smartly to avoid exchanges. Simon Brown was being counted out before he stepped into the ring and he silenced many of the critics immediately. Never underestimate anyone inside that Squared Circle. Never...

  • @aafris

  • @amck72
    @amck72 14 лет назад

    Norris got KO`ed by a punch to the back of the head. He recently said in an interview that he never trained for this fight and Simon Brown lifted him off the floor with almost every punch. At least he is honest there was no way he would have won the first fight unless he had a game plan and actually trained.

    and the reason his hook was wide is for two reasons: first, Leonard had sustained a brutal beating, and a shock to his body rounds 2-7. Second and most importantly, Norris never stood in front for Ray to hit but was always on his toes, never for a second giving him a target which complicated matters for him greatly!
    Leonard had just never faced anyone with Terry's smarts, speed, or mobility
    Roy Jones was great too. we musnt forget him. A true Sugar Ray!

  • @tonyvstony7

    When Leonard got knocked out by Camacho, he had a pulled muscle in his right calf. He couldn't push off to throw his right hand. He went on to fight anyway and got beat.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar

    and another thing: it is not a disgrace but rather an honor even for Leonard to go down to defeat at the hands of such an awesome warrior as Norris

  • @floridasweetguy
    @floridasweetguy 14 лет назад

    Terry was supposed to fight Oscar De La Hoya before getting KO'd in I believe 1997. Norris was never quite the same after this KO (Simon Brown). Even after his win after the second Brown fight, it seemed that he took a lot more shots in later bouts before getting stopped by Mullings. He had all the ability in the world to beat very good fighters in his era and even in this era.

  • @cstrait
    @cstrait 14 лет назад

    depends on when they fought. tito was very one-dimensional (the later his career went on anyway). he was brilliant in that one dimension, but i think norris could have boxed his way to victory. when trinidad was at welter he was more varied in his attack, and would have caught terry. but by the time he was at 154 (where norris was), he was sitting on that hook too much, and had no plan B. that's why his losses were so dominating (hopkins, wright, jones)

  • @JAYLOVE47
    @JAYLOVE47 15 лет назад

    Ray reflexes, legs, and hand speed were gone! He wasn't able to counter punch the way he use too and he was getting hit more than he was landing which isn't typical of Ray Leonard!
    Anyone with boxing knowledge knows that Leonard was only a shadow of himself in the Norris fight!
    He was competitive because he was a great champion who fought until the end, but he was CLEARLY past his prime and anyone who thinks otherwise is a DAMN FOOL

  • @lamar4254

    This fight is one of the reasons why Terry Norris is now punch drunk. He was a great fighter and I hate that this game has done so much damage to his brain. He can barely talk now, very slurred speech when he talks.

  • @DannyA123
    @DannyA123 15 лет назад

    Piglatinsuperstar, you keep talking (and talking) about Norris' victory over a washed-up Ray Leonard, but I've never seen Ray Leonard doing the chicken-dance like Terry did in this first fight against Simon Brown! Terry's "dance steps" were far more impressive than even Zab Judah's funky moves after Kostya Tszyu tagged him.

  • @gwane1uno

    Its ashame how lil some of you so called boxing fans know about boxing. Simon brown was just a few fighter that had very hold jab that could hurt you bad.. other fighter that had this type of jab was buster duglas , bob foster , sonny liston , ray robinson , Joe lewis.

    @daTruChosen
    not really
    Hearns was only in his 4th year as pro when Leonard got to him. It is a credit to Leonard but Hearns' stick N move did cause Ray much problems & showed he couldnt cope w speed N movement. like the kind Terry had. Ray had never faced anyone w Terry's speed b-4
    Hagler was shot. and Benitez was slow w poor speed. Benitez was a D-fence only fighter
    Duran was a lightweight

  • @Piglatinsuperstar

    @TA152H01
    Roy is actually inside my top 10 p4p historically. his speed was beyond compare, could deliver 6 consecutive hooks within a second. perhaps the most lethal body puncher in history. was never the same after moving down from heavyweight, otherwise the most dominant fighter in history
    Camacho didn have it anymore and wasnt the same since the late 80s. 160 was far too heavy for him. a natural 130 pounder with unparalleld skills & speed. a big underdog in the Leonard fight

  • @cstrait
    @cstrait 14 лет назад

    tito had far better recuperative powers, true. but i was mostly referring to his tendency to get dropped early, even in fights he won later. and norris likely would have beaten him on points with speed (which trinidad had a problem with), and boxing ability. the younger trinidad who mixed up his attack would have been better against norris.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 13 лет назад

    @TA152H0ait nothing mechanical about TN's left hook as Leonard found out. Ray didnt dare blink for fear of TN landing it
    I cant for the life of me understand how people talk about Norris and weak chin in the same setence when he took Ray's best shots point blank range and didnt even seem to notice (ending rd 11)
    how ironic that Leonard wound up tasting canvas in their fight which was nothing unusual for him anyways. how come people dont talk about the times Ray hit the floor?

    @TheLeppus28 Norris has a glass jaw. I remember one fight he had against a white Australian boxer in Australia. Norris was knocked down easily with a short hook. However, he was able to get up wobbly and land some haymakers against the Aussie boxer and knock him out. Norris was lucky that day. Norris's wife panicked after seeing Norris knocked down.

  • @TK70

    Simon Brown tried to throw punches on each round after the bell and did land some fatal ones after the round 3. He is no doubt a great fighter but it's a scandal.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 15 лет назад

    He won every fight he went down in? Really? Hearns #2? Norris? Camacho?
    Ray was lucky he didnt catch Hector in his prime or Hector would have laid him out. As it was Ray was beat up, stomped, humiliated, decked, mugged on the ropes, and beat senseless before HC knocked him out. I was totally blown away by Hector. What a tiger!! Not so impressed by the timid Leonard who never could take a punch. You could ask Terry Norris, hearns, lalonde, Howard, Geraldo.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 14 лет назад

    Leonard fans resent how he beat Ray becuz it left them no room to say it was even close
    Terry is just too fast for most fighters and that includes Leonard & Taylor. Meldrick couldnt defend against Terry's right hand and Ray couldnt defend against Norris' uppercut and left hook OR his right hand. but Terry connected better with it in the later rounds. It was like he couldnt miss Ray's chin
    For sure Ray knew he was in with a different opponent that Lalonde. Terry was the real thing!

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 13 лет назад

    @cbaldwinjr
    first of all, Leonard was NOT rusty when Norris devestated him. He'd been off one year off a flawless performance in "uno mas", one in which Tim Ryan termed "an absolutely breathtaking performance" and from Steve Farhood "the perfect fight"
    and hadnt Ray come back after a THREE year layoff to beat Hagler in a division he'd never competed at?
    Norris was only 154 and Ray STILL was no match for him EVEN WITH HIS HUGE EDGE IN EXPERIENCE!

  • @JAYLOVE47
    @JAYLOVE47 15 лет назад

    Correction, Leonard was TKO'd by Camacho, Ray was still on his feet and aware of what was going on therefore it was not a KO! And let's just remember Leonard was even worst in that fight than he was in the Norris fight, he was way over the hill! Big deal he went down alot, and he won every fight he went down in, except to Norris but he was washed up at this point so! And just because Norris was Leonards first lost in 11 yrs mean nothing! That time had to come because Ray was on decline and aging

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 15 лет назад

    Early Leonard was holding his own especially in round two. but once Terry brought out his big guns and started throwing serious leather, he made ray back down, intimidating him and hurting him. It was supposed to be Terry with the fragile chin but he came out smelling like daisies. not a mark on him while Leonard kept hitting the canvas.
    I would never use the Ali-Holmes comarison. Ali had been losing most of his fights with Young, Shavers, Norton, Spinks while Ray was unbeaten 11 years

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 15 лет назад

    Ray only looked slow becuz he had Norris in front of him. And you can't counterpunch a man who's alot faster than you. Makes sense. Ray was always great but he could never compete with someone like Terry, a man that had both speed and power, a man that could bang box and move. Ray never fought anyone like that

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 13 лет назад

    @TA152H01
    It was a fair fight becuz Camacho lost at least 90% of his old speed so it evens out and remeber, Leonard is the bigger man. I dont know what Hector was doing fighting 30 pounds past his natural weight. it was clear that drugs had taken its toll. I thought I would never see him again in a major fight after what happened in the Chavez fight, a fight he easily wouldve won in his prime had Chavez not been afraid to meet with him

  • @vincespell
    @vincespell 13 лет назад

    @Piglatinsuperstar Leonard was past his prime, and that's that. Terry vs Leonard in his prime is no match! Leonard would have blown him out in the 6 or 7th round. Leonard was as good, Damn Good, he stood with the ferocious Duran and then came back and beat him, he stood the test of time with Hearns and beat him, out boxed Benitez, went to to toe with Kalule and beat him. Got in the ring with Hagler and outfoxed him, he beat all the contenders of his day, Norris would not have lasted the fight!

    Yes, Leonard was very much KO'd - by another over the hill fighter so you can't say Ray was nver stopped. and Ray went down alot too. it was Hagler that was never KO'D. Hagler NEVER went down.
    But is shows that if you cause enough damage to Ray he'll fold like a cheap deck of cards.
    One other difference I want to point out is that Norris with his string of losses was washed up while with Leonard, it took a Terry Norris to end his 11 year winning streak. That's the difference

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 14 лет назад

    that speed you talking about I watched in uno mas. it wourkds with slow stationary fighters over the hill like Duran & Hagler but against someone that could box and move and be sharp, forget it. that's how you get hurt. and leonard could never compete with someone that fast
    and why are you so impressed by leonard in the hearns fight when his own trainer telling him "youre blowing it"?

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 15 лет назад

    Beat me up? I dont even know him. Ray waokay to me as a fighter but he turned down way too many fights and that's what annoys me about him. people always talking how great he was but he was too scared to face hagler for years and years. too scared to fight even with Pryor and forget about Nunn. it really disturbs me how the public has to sit and watch fights with lalonde and a run down Hagler, Hearns, Duran. people dont want to see those fights no more

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 15 лет назад

    Prove he was washed up. Was Ray winning? If he was winning then you can't say he was washed up and the record shows Ray hadnt lost a fight in 11 years until he met up with Norris who was too fast for him. So you cant even say Ray was washed up when Terry laid him low

  • @Piglatinsuperstar
    @Piglatinsuperstar 14 лет назад

    How am I wrong? He was decked, cameras dont lie. You cant just make up your own rules becuz you dont like the fact he couldnt take it upstairs.
    didnt you ever see the fight between Honeyghan and Curry in which one commentator asked Clancy if ring rust affects your chin. Gil laughed and said 'No ring rust does not affect your chin'.
    See? And ray was only 27 when little Kevin Howard dropped him. Think what Norris would have done. He would have beat the SRl of 81,84,87 easily

    Excuses excuses. I've hear enough excuses from the leonard apoliggists to cover a landfill. He just couldnt handle his dukes when it came down to it. That's what it amounts to. its really too bad what happened to sugar that night thinking hector was going to tmake is easy for him but HC made him look like shit. Ray wasnt ready for that kind of assault giving it to him fast and hard instead of giving him a chance at a more leisurely pace.

    how interesting. People like you were saying the same thing befre their fight and look how it turned out!
    turns out that Terry not only had the kind of speed Ray couldnt cope with, but he couldnt deal with his power either. Ray had never faced anyone with Terry's speed, power, or defense

    terry was faster than Ray that's why he beat him and punched holes in that big head of his. even in his prime it would still be one sided fight. Look at the trouble he had with kalule: no movement, no punch, no speed and he still gave Ray trouble. I hate to think what someone like Terry wouldve done to Ray who could never handle quick boxers anyways.
    BTW, Ray Leonard never fought Cuevas. He passed him over for Benitez. Benitez is okay for a fighter but he didnt have any speed. Too slow

    check it out bro, you can't be that foolish could you? Tito was the one who TKO'd Carr and also went on to decisively beat Reid. Are you reffering to Tito being SIMPLY knocked down? which he was in those fights you mention; but he was the one who eventually WON.

    Norris had a weak chin, and Brown hurt him in every round of this fight.

    u said he wasnt better than 99.9% on his best day, so we dont need 1000 according to you. go back to the night of the camacho fight. grab 10 dudes leonard's age over 200 lbs off the street at random. leonard would beat the shit out of every last one. he doenst need to be big when he's got enough speed to land his punches flush before his opponent has a chance to roll/block/slip/react. it'd be like a relaxing workout on the heavy bag

    This goes beyond just a glass jaw. How pathetic is Norris's chin?

    a 250 pound guy throwing haymakers would miss every punch and get countered. a 250 pound average guy is destroyed in less than 1 round by camacho. a 250 pound average guy is completely out of gas 2 minutes into the 1st round. i know u dont care much for leonard, but now you just sound plain ignorant

    that's just one fight. who ever heard of a shot 25 year old fighter? And after ONE fight? Don't know why you'd bring up Ali. He was 37!
    You're funny!
    Leonard? He'd been unbeaten for 11 years and recently outpointed the great Hagler and shut out Duran who'd just won the middleweight title. His legs never looked better and his combinations too fast to follow, while winning every round. His problem was he'd never met Terry Norris!
