It did more damage to Thanos even without mjolnir. Cap got buffed.
When the shield is thrown it has a stun effect. When a force hits it, it absorbs it and makes a loud noise, regardless of what it is. It is Vibranium and not an earthly metal.

I love the part when the fight goes hand-to-hand, and you can see the moment Tony realises he's bitten off a little bit more than he can chew, when Thor starts crushing his tank-proof armour with his bare hands. Tony delivers a head-butt that rocks Thor, and then Thor returns the head-butt and sends Tony flying backwards (to the point where there's a visible dent in the helmet). Those details make this scene so wonderful.
Yeah, by the end, I think he was starting to realize that he wasn't even really hurting him.
Tony had enough power to give Thor a good workout. But not enough power to seriously hurt Thor. At least not without Iron Man using his more other dangerous weapons.

What I love about that upgrade, too, is that it's in direct response to Ivan Vanko's electric whips kicking his ass on the race track in Iron Man 2.
And taking much less damage from those attacks too. IM2 showed Tony progress with that particular means of defence.

I love the fact that the suit's ability to absorb Thor's lightning bolt is an upgrade made as a direct result of Tony's encounter with Whiplash from IM2. It's little callbacks like that, that make these movies so good.
It really sells the "evolution of the design" aspect that is central to Tony Stark's character.
I don't think it's intentional, looking at how Tony reacts to it - he seems SURPRISED that he absorbed some of the attack. Plus, he used this suit against Whiplash and it didn't absorb the electricity there.
That said, this IS still a subtle connection to other events - Tony had to create an entirely new element that seemingly mimics the Tesseract, an Infinity Stone, for his new arc reactor, the previous versions of which were derived from his father's studying of the same Infinity Stone. The same Tesseract that was apparently once held in possession of Odin, at least according to the Red Skull. And we later learn that Infinity Stones can directly empower individuals, most notably Captain Marvel and Wanda.
Short version - Thor's lightning, and potentially entire godhood, is derived from Odin or a previous ancestor empowering themselves with the Tesseract. Tony's suit, or more specifically his arc reactor, can absorb Thor's lightning because it's derived from the same source.
@@Kilaknux Except that wasn't the same 'suitcase suit' Tony used against Whiplash. I think his surprise wasn't in the fact that it absorbed the attack, but in *how much* it boosted the energy reserves. Right after he let Thor have *both* palm Repulsors *and* the chest Unibeam simultaneously.

@@walnut1105 Iron man sacrificed his life for the entire universe, power doesnt matter its about heroicness thats why iron man is better
@@FA-ir8fu doesn't that what Thor tried to do? But they didn't let him. The only difference is Thor is too strong to die, and Tony's body crumbled snapping the gauntlet. Thor didn't hesitate to volunteer to snap. As soon as it built, Thor quickly tried to volunteer but stopped. Thor didn't even bother destroying Asgard to save his people. So I reckon he would sacrifice himself
I love how Loki is just sitting back and enjoying the fight.
I do and dont.
Its an obvious sign that he WANTS to be captured and his goal is to splinter the Avengers. It really highlights how the Avengers act like testosteroned filled foolish boys at times.

Always bugged me that even big-brained Tony didn't think to wonder why Loki just stuck around during that long fight and didn't try to escape?
@@barbrady9163 maybe cause Loki cant really go anywhere cause they can track him easily. I mean there is no point in escaping. Thats why they dont worry about him much.
@@barbrady9163 there is literally no point in him excaping

I love how clearly they show off their strengths and weaknesses here:
Tony has the advantage of long range attacks and speed.
Thor has strength and better hand to hand combat ability.
0:30 Metal man? Does Thor watch Asylum movies?
1:09 Loki just chillin' 😂
It was all part of the plan.
And Thor has that "Watch this, brother!" look as he's about to kick Iron's ass.
Loki low-key chillin...
Loki: "Yeah I'm just gonna sit up here and watch this shit escalate."
And thinking, now if I only had some popcorn.
Love this fight. It feels so much more "real" then the modern day stuff. No shaky camera angles / camera cuts to a new fight angle every 2 seconds. You can actually see how they're fighting and the way IronMans Suit looks is 10/10. Love how robotic it is compared to his last suit.
Iron man’s nano suits are always a drag. Takes the fun out of having multiple socialized armors.
@MayBunny37 the only Micheal Bay movies I'm familiar with are the transformers movies and tho some were awesome, alot of the time you couldn't make out the action because of shaky janky camera movements and switches. No thank you. I hold this clip at a higher standard then the Bay movies
really? I thought the first transformer movie was pretty good. Sure the camera angles are stuff are eh but the scenes where we did have transformers had a ton of subtle little details and stuff that you’d never notice on the first watch. Not only that but the decepticons were badass
It really feels like a comic book in that regard
Because Whedon is an excellent director and the Russo brothers are not. Losing Whedon and Favreau really cost the MCU.
This scene is so much realistic than all other avengers movie scenes

I always felt like this was one of the most underrated fights in the MCU. Neither Stark or Thor really knows what the other is capable of since they’ve just met so they just slug it out 😂 The musical score in this scene is great too.
Girl what
It's just a shame it's so god damn dark!
Pretty much sums it up.
Thor thinks he is dealing with an “ordinary” human, but Tony really has no clue as to the power of Thor.
He is likely betting that since they were able to take down Loki relatively easily, that Thor may be just as easy.
Also, both are as arrogant as they come.
