If this game played out as it was portrayed the refs in this game were absolutely brutal towards Permian. Tons of missed calls against Carter for unsportsmanlike conduct amongst other things but in the end they hit Permian for a weak holding call? Carter would’ve needed to be checked for paying those refs off.
According to the documentary "What Carter Lost" Dallas Carter did not play dirty and the score was low until the final minutes. It could have gone either way.
It was a sloppy game in real life. It was cold and a downpour throughout the game. The most accurate thing in the movie that really happened was the blown call of an incompletion that was ruled a catch.
This and Varsity Blues really paints a perfect picture of high school football. This movie on the high level competition of high school and the other on the party side both get me in my feelings.
You had to love Boobie passing on his knowledge to Billingsly. He knew his time was done but the best he could do was give his replacement the only think he could. Knowledge and confidence.
I love how at the end of the game, Billingsley’s father gives his son his old State Championship ring… beautiful moment in the film where Don finally earns his father’s respect as a football player. Ref called it a completion. The ref went into permians locker room after the game to apologize and was thrown out. Winchell was 4 of 27 passing in the game.
My HC was on the staff, he’s actually the one that yells “you forgot your helmet?!” and yes, he was like that in real life. Two of my Coaches are actually in the movie too😂 I remember when I saw this and thought “theres no way that’s Coach ___ and ___”

No Dallas Carter kid runs into South Oak Cliff acting tough. Hell to the no. Carter deserves the trophy, as a matter of fact, after Carter was stripped of trhe title, Converse Judson decided they didn't want it since it wasn't won on the field and gave it back to Dallas Carter.

Jesse armsted went to the U and then pro The qb played at at Texas Tech Two of their top 3 however, Evans and I cannot recall the other, one committed to Tennesee and the other was another big name D1 school, were among those arrested Kids came from very good families and seem to be good men today, unfortunately they made a lot of very very bad decisions in a short period of time and they missed some great opportunities. The mistakes they made were not they type that could or should be brushed aside or handled with kid gloves as there were firearms involved and the threat of violence was made to one or two dozen innocent people.
My favorite part in this movie is when Jack. Twist walked onto the field and told everybody to pause so him..and ennis delmar... Can play with each other Inside of the tent, they got from broke back mountain... There was a lot of mountains broke in this movie..😂😂😂

They played in cold, rainy conditions and Permian pretty much put up a tough match against the superior Carter team. The blown incompletion call was the momentum changer in the game.

Loved the film but I’m a little lost on why everyone was happy with that 1st down that billingsly picked up before the flag was thrown. They were out of timeouts and there wouldn’t have been enough time on the clock to get on the ball.

Yes earlier in the game Dallas carter qb threw a pass that hit the turf and bounced into the receivers arms and the black referee called it a catch
