- Christopher Anton Rea (born 4 March 1951) is an English rock and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born and raised in Middlesbrough, he is of Italian and Irish descent. He is known for his distinctive, husky-gravel voice and slide guitar playing, and the Guinness Rockopedia described him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart".
British Hit Singles & Albums stated that Rea was "one of the most popular UK singer-songwriters of the late 1980s" and "already a major European star by the time he finally cracked the UK Top 10 with the release of the single "The Road to Hell (Part 2)", which was his 18th chart entry. wo of his studio albums, The Road to Hell and Auberge, topped the UK Albums Chart. Rea was nominated three times for the Brit Award for Best British Male Artist: in 1988, 1989 and 1990. His other hit songs include "I Can Hear Your Heartbeat", "Stainsby Girls", "Josephine", "On the Beach", "Let's Dance", "Driving Home for Christmas", "Working on It", "Tell Me There's a Heaven", "Auberge", "Looking for the Summer", "Winter Song", "Nothing to Fear", "Julia", and "If You Were Me", a duet with Elton John.
In this video Chris is miming to his song 'Josephine' and is not aware of the fact that this is the farewell show of the host, presenter Ad Visser. After 15 years Ad Visser left Toppop and was given a grand farewell. Unfortunately Chris Rea was not informed before his performance but when explained later he had a laugh about it.
This was te final song in the 15th year of Toppop.

I love Chris for being so annoyed and frustrated in this video. They hadn't informed him about the festivities that were about to ensue for saying goodbye to the hero of the best and first pop music tv show in the Netherlands.
Anyone would of got ticked off the distractions that was going on he stuck to his guns nice performance for everyone on here to see and the World aswell it wouldn't been easy he's delivering a song for the audience and so on etc camera keep going to that guy timing or what

November 2, 2022. We've been enjoying Chris Rea through the decades and RUclips has provided us a marvelous avenue to go back in time to enjoy this fabulous man and his music. Chris was justifiably miffed in this video and he showed it; it was disrespectful to him to have the audience focus on the "farewell" to one of the media executives.
Chris was the "star of the show" and focus should have been on him. We loved, love, and will always love Chris Rea and his music.

it is een hele bijzondere opname Chris Rea was namelijk de aller aller laatste artiest die optrad in Top Pop dit was in 1985. Ad Visser stopte na dit liedje met het presenteren van Top Pop nadat hij er in 1970 er mee was begonnen, hij werd hier per toeval voor gevraagd. Op de clip kun je zien dat Ad er veel moeite mee had.

What a highlight of the last TopPop show with Ad Visser! I was (and I am) a german Fan, living near the border to the Netherlands, looking via TV aerial in the eighties then. Ad Visser is so an great moderator and artist, I will allways remeber it
