The best Seinfeld episodes have a few things in common. The Contest might epitomize those things better than any other episode in the Seinfeld catalogue. Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and George participate in what would end up being one of the most famous competitions ever put to TV. It also happens to put on display exactly what makes Seinfeld special.

Seinfield is known as the "show about nothing" pretty much because of how relatable it is. You don't see characters in absurd plots, you just see them in day-to-day situations that could happen to _anybody._ Sure, there are some few moments that are a bit exaggerated, but they still feel more grounded than any other sitcom (well, except for almost everything Kramer does).

@@trequor yeah I suppose it's true. Look at Friends; they obviously took inspiration (and even stole some ideas) from Seinfeld. However, they didn't share the "no learning, no hugging" slogan that characterized Seinfeld. Instead, Friends has many romantic and emotional moments that make it a completely different show. And then there were shows like How I Met Your Mother who took inspiration directly from Friends, not from Seinfeld, which means that although Friends copied Seinfeld, they also added many original things and created its own brand, different from Seinfeld in many aspects.

Even The Office, which has a lot of dark humor, presents empathetic characters and emotional moments.

there are others worth watching, such as Mind Your Language (only the first 3 seasons, though, the 4th season is an insult IMO because if replaces some of the cast members with new performers. It's like watching the first 7 seasons of Seinfeld with these 4 that we love, and then, in seasons 8 and 9 replace George and Elaine with 2 other people but keep the names. It's just not the same).
Anyway, that's on the humoristic part of entertainment that's worth watching, and re-watching until the day you die. But there are other high quality "shows" that are worth re-watching, and those are the Poirot series (71 short episodes and full-fledged movies in total) and Sherlock Holmes series (about 30 something episodes and movies in total)
I have pirated all these great shows and movies some 15 years ago (including the best Jackie Chan movies) and I keep watching and re-watching them whenever I want. And I want to watch them weekly lol.
So anyway, I highly recommend you getting your dirty hands on all of these masterpieces because with the way humanity going dumber and dumber each day these epic creations rise in value more and more each day, so they're worth owning and re-watching when you feel down, to remind yourself that people used to be smart, kind, relaxed, funny and humanitarian in general

Later Seinfeld is the best because the absurd story threads eventually start to overlap, even things that shouldn’t connect like when George took a book into the bathroom at the store... as he’s out there trying to rid himself of the “flagged” book we hear about: Kramer and Newman’s crazy rickshaw idea, which then ends up literally crashing into Elaine’s story thread after her “boyfriend” has finally cleaned up. And Jerry’s thread about his uncle shoplifting comes back around with George at the end “you defile one book, steal another, and somehow that makes everything all even?”

My 3 main issues with TBBT are:
~The laugh track at nearly EVERY line, whether it's funny or not. At least you can easily tune out Seinfeld's laugh track.
~The jokes in TBBT are all spelled out to the audience. I get that it's a show aimed at a general audience so they'll have to make a decent amount of the nerdy jokes more obvious, but they don't leave any in-jokes for nerds. Futurama is really good at balancing plenty of jokes that a non-nerdy general audience can get without holding their hand, with plenty of in-jokes nerds would get.
~Sheldon. I was diagnosed with Asperger's (now High Functioning Autism) as a kid, and I know a lot of fellow autistics who hate him. I (and a lot of other autistic people I've known) love funny autistic (whether canonically or heavily implied) characters like Abed from Community, Archer from Archer, and Tina from Bob's Burgers! They show autistic traits, yet autism isn't their entire personality. They're more than it, just like real autistic people. And those characters are the butt of plenty of jokes too, yet it doesn't feel like the show is bullying a character with a mental disability.
Sheldon on the other hand, while not canonically autistic, is virtually every aspie/HFA stereotype out there with very little personality when it comes to anything else. It's as if the show writers looked up Asperger's/HFA in the DSM and decided that was the entire character...which is not only lazy writing, but in reality most aspies/HFA people aren't going to check off every single trait of autism, and have personality traits besides being autistic. The people behind TBBT have claimed that he's not autistic, "just Sheldon", but I feel that's such a cowardly cop out.
I get why they wouldn't want to admit that Sheldon is autistic, because then a lot of the jokes in the show would just feel like a group of mean grown adults bullying a man with a mental disability, but...they also wrote the other characters and jokes that way. Like...that's a situation the people behind TBBT got themselves into and could have avoided. If they had been a bit less lazy with Sheldon's character writing, they could have made him a canonically autistic character, made him the butt of his fair share of funny jokes, AND made it not seem like bullying!
