I love going to Maui. There's great pickleball in Kihei. I like to stay in walking distance to Waipuilani Park and play every morning at sunrise for a couple hours while the family sleeps in and then the rest of the day is with the family. There's also almost no rain on that part of the island. Gorgeous.
i have the Simon ball machine....it is pretty good...doesn't have the oscillation on it but it goes from 5-60MPH and has lifetime on the wheels that throw the balls....it's very reliable and has just enough variances to not be too repetitive and boring
That DUPR problem literally is killing the fun of pickleball at my club. They changed this year to have a certain DUPR to play at certain level. It created a lot of animosity between players when they are playing on club organized DUPR shootout event. I almost wish that it never being invented...
I initially just listened to this on podcast but had to watch the youtube video! The best part of this video was Will’s story!! Sounds like a great movie!
Spot on with the crowd increase at public courts. Same exact issue at my home courts. The Parks & Rec have the rules "clearly" posted. Wait times are getting absurd. Confusion abounds even when the long time regulars try to keep things moving smoothly. I also have courts in my Senior Community that don't get used. I getting numbers together for a group text to schedule games for the players who want to play more than socialize.
The Seattle PPA venue is at Lower Woodland Tennis Courts. These are public courts (not a tennis club) but courts will be resurfaced for the event. There will be limited parking (so shuttles will likely be used) and limited facilities available.
July in Seattle is the most expensive time to go. It's also cruise season in Seattle and the hotels charge an arm and leg for Friday's when cruise ships disembark on Saturdays. Im there the week before in Seattle going on a cruise.
I walked on to a Pickleball court in Aug of last year.. 4-5 people (fancy private club) in their 70s-80s taught me everything. I always feel like we have to give it back what was given freely to us. But Willis… Chris.. you all don’t even know what is “old” in PB
our local courts are first come first served per our county parks n rec... you can stay on as long as you want. You don't have to let people rotate in. Kind of odd to me tbh but i sort of get it too
i watch Dr Zach all the time and actually use the Nike PG6 for pickleball indoors and out and they work great...he is very thorough and he is the reason I went with the PG6
I think the “rule” in my town is 60 minute limit for private groups at the city courts. I believe that’s what the city park and rec department encourages. But M-F 8-10am is open group play as well as Wednesday from 5:30-7:30pm
I made it to the kitchen. Great podcast and information on pickleball etiquette and DUPR. Will, that was a very interesting story about that night. Glad that you are back.
My buddy got a Selkirk 005.... and sent it back to the company a week later. He said it sucked. Selkirk is now sending him the 003 for an equal exchange. He's happy about that.
That Italian story is absolutely normal, is you guys thinking “American”, Go out there and Live, enjoy the beauty of life, make friends, enjoy being under the stars. some people call it Magic!! ❤😂😂😂
Kitchen. I was in Perugia. Went to Assisi by cab. Hung out for a bit. Couldn't find a taxi.. then I found one. Using my Spa-talian, and my knowledge of Italian soccer, specifically, Perugia, I got an off-duty cab driver to skip his lunch break and take us back to our hotel. He was in shock that an American knew stuff about his team, and I gave him some trinkets from the club. He gave the three of us a free 20 mile ride in his cab. Good times.
The section where they are talking about slowing down the game just reminds me of tennis and why former tennis players are most of the top pros in pickleball as they already understand court positioning, pace of play, and shot selection. I can rely on that over most players as I learn the game without even playing that much and still beat most people.
@pickleballwill Missed you bud. Hope the vacation was amazing. Spent a couple weeks in Positano. You may have sold you soul to Selkirk, but the pickelball people still own it! Selkirk is just air’b’n’bing it.
Hi Chris, Are you aware of the bs going on at Bobby Theisen park in Shoreview? A private group carved out a club, kept the money, and is bigfooting the courts. The parks guy doesn't know where the money is going They bullied my Shoreview resident girlfriend off the courts and the Mayor there isn't happy it's on her headache list now. Also, I'll be opening an indoor pb only club in the tc by October, so add another 9-21 courts depending on zoning, etc. Keep up the great content!
Didn’t have an issue with dupr doing the points system, the margin they expected was just too big. Now if you lose a match, it takes like 7 to make up for one loss, seems unbalanced
Average stats for amateur play…I was sidelined with an injury and one day I watched my group of 30 in mixed doubles play on 4 courts and I started tracking how many times a ball was hit before a point was made and the number was 2 to 4 shots or less in play over all 4 courts. The level was 2.5 to 3.5 with no skill separation and dinking was rare. I shared the numbers this a few people and the conclusion was this was a banger crowd or players with lower level skills. Now when I arrive at a new place to play I watch and count to see where to play. I know I am at a certain level and count the amount of times a ball is in play or if anyone is dinking before I put my paddle down. This saves me from being frustrated or frustrating others but is useful only when courts are not packed with players and I am just trying to get a game in. I made it to the kitchen.
can you interview Jason from Buffalo NY, pickleball island, and the owner of pickleball brackets? He has an algorythum that is superior to anything out there.
I hate the both teams rotate off stuff…I do it but it’s stupid…it should be winners court…so for my spot there’s 4 courts…pick a winners court and you play up to that court you still rotate a ton of ppl but you actually get to play way more games
amateur rallies 3.0-4.0 last about 6 hits tops....most are 3-4....most points are won on unforced errors i.e. hit into net, hit wide, hit long...dinking is almost non existent...a few here or there but nothing like you see in upper levels...i actually like that better because dinking is kind of boring but I get it for upper level/pro play
My local racquet club requires 3.75 DUPR to play in 4.0+ challenge play days. I can't play now because I'm a 3.5 even though that rating came from a tournament 2 months ago. I play/drill 3 times a week and win games in 4.0+ challenge days so I'm forced to care about it for now. I hope someone comes out with a better version of DUPR because they just keep making weird decisions.
Eager to see your ball machine review/s. Curious how the Slinger performs as well. Currently use a Tutor version 1. Would like a machine that delivers a "tight" pattern from ball to ball. The ease of tranport and features of the Slinger has my attention.
I disagree with your take on shoe reviews. I believe that someone like yourself is the most qualified to talk about footwear. You are constantly playing, creating content, and looking for what fits to your level of game play. That said, even if you can't break it down to the specific view of the technology that is being used in the shoe, you can elaborate on your experience and how you felt in a particular shoe. Like with paddles, your experience could differ from others, but you will talk to the fact of what you feel, like, and dislike. Also, the level of detail you provide could help aid in making decisions for immediate or future purchases.
DUPR is stupid. Now it's only wins/losses so game score doesn't matter. And yet their dumb Genie tool requires to you enter imaginary scores for an imaginary match instead of just selecting which players won.
i care more about my dupr than my credit score
😂😂😂

I'd buy it, but it's dang heavy and would barely fit in my trunk.

The winner here is JILLY B. for leaving DUPR!!!

Which vatic prism were you talking about? V7 or flash?
We have had the same issues with new folks (mostly young kids) starting to play, thinking pickleball needs a stronger ambassador program.
LOLLLL - yooo I do have a hard time keeping track of the score 😂😂😂 Im catching strays out here
Chris holds his own in the valorant servers 👌👌👌👌
how do i get the dupr genie app or whatever it is called?
@pickleballwill Missed you bud. Hope the vacation was amazing. Spent a couple weeks in Positano. You may have sold you soul to Selkirk, but the pickelball people still own it! Selkirk is just air’b’n’bing it.
Try to review the ERNE ball machine. Thanks for tip on Zach the Foot Doc. Thanks.!!!

Dope shirt Will, where’d ya get it? 😍🤔
OYA, the Barry Wood of paddles.

My DUPR freezes on my phone all the time too.
What's up guys!
What’s up guys

Idk man my DUPR be reflecting my gpa lately and I ain’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
I’m pretty sure Maui has an annual tournament in January… 😊
That would be sick!
Looks like it’s Jan 18-22 in 2024 as of now. Plan your vaca at that time for sure.

"Singles Advice From Chris" sounds like dating tips! It's not about that, of course.
The old ppl hate the fact that the sport is getting younger
The logic on dupr you gave contradicts…..why the the new genie app if it is only win or lose….something isn’t right in your take on it
Plat 1 is definitely 3.5 at best.
No one uses DUPR around here. Even tournaments that say you need a DUPR account - never posts matches to DUPR.
This or the Vatic Prism flash?
Um… love you guys… you are moving away from the pickleball commoners to Pickeball elite gossip
Are you guys positive about DUPR neglecting score in their new rating system?
My club asked their account manager at DUPR yesterday about the changes to the DUPR algo. They said that score matters
8 people?! And not one game?? 🤦🏽♂️ International opportunity lost.

Day 9 asking for cornhole content

its a little more then just wins or losses, more liking making your expected percentage of points per game, and what type of level of other players...
